2. Abstract 1122‐000200: Chiropractor Manipulation Leading to Bilateral Vertebral Artery Dissection and Acute Ischemic Stroke

Introduction: Traumatic cervical artery dissection is one of the leading causes of stroke in patients under the age of 45. Recent chiropractic neck manipulation is associated with risk of vertebral artery dissection (VAD). The V3 segment of the vertebral artery is highly susceptible to the bending forces during forced manipulation leading to intimal damage. Methods: N/A Results: This is a case presentation of a 44 year old male who was transferred from another emergency department for left homonymous inferior quadrantanopia noted on an optometrist visit. He reported sudden onset left homonymous hemianopia after receiving a high velocity cervical spine adjustment at a chiropractor appointment for chronic neck pain a few days prior. CT angiogram of the head and neck revealed bilateral vertebral artery dissection at left V2 and right V3 segments. MRI brain confirmed an acute infract in the right medial occipital lobe. His right PCA stroke was likely embolic from the injured right V3 but possibly from the left V2 as well. As the patient reported progression from a homonymous hemianopia to a quadrantanopia, he likely had a migrating embolus. Conclusions: Arterial dissection accounts for about 2% of all ischemic strokes, but may be between 8–25% in patients less than 45 years old. VAD can result from trauma of varying severities ‐ from sports, motor vehicle accidents, and chiropractor neck manipulations to violent coughing/sneezing. It is estimated that 1 in 20,000 spinal manipulation results in vertebral artery aneurysm/dissection. In the United States, patients who have multiple chronic conditions are reporting higher use of complementary or alternative medicine, including chiropractic manipulation. Education about the association of VAD and chiropractor maneuvers can be beneficial to the public as these are preventable acute ischemic strokes. In addition, vertebral artery dissection symptoms can be subtle and patients presenting to chiropractors may have distracting pain masking their deficits. Evaluating for appropriateness of cervical manipulation in high‐risk patients and detecting early clinical signs of VAD by chiropractors can be beneficial in preventing acute ischemic strokes in young patients.

The purpose of this study was to produce experimental retinal detachments caused by retinal breaks resulting from alterations of the vitreous gel. Thus, an effort was made to simulate the pathogenesis of human rhegmatogenous retinal detachments in which vitreoretinal traction is an essential factor.1-3Clinical observations suggest that the presence of blood in the vitreous of human eyes may cause profound changes in the vitreous gel4resulting in rhegmatogenous retinal detachment. Retinal detachments have been produced in animals by a variety of methods since the initial attempt by Chodin in 1875.5These attempts may be divided into five general categories: Mechanical production of a retinal break.5-10 Induced vitreous changes.5,10-16 Mechanical separation of the retina.7, 17-19 Injection of chemicals into the anterior chamber, subconjunctival, or suprachoroidal space.20-25 Ligation of the optic nerve.26 With most of these methods, the retinal detachments spontaneously reattached. - Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the residual placental volume and correlated factors using three-dimensional ultrasound (3D) in patients with placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) after conservative management., Materials and Methods: From January 2005 to December 2023, we retrospectively reviewed patients with PAS who underwent prophylactic transcatheter arterial embolization and retained the placenta in situ. The residual placental volume was assessed using 3D ultrasound equipped with virtual organ computer-aided analysis. We determined the resorption rate of the residual placenta (RRRP) and analyzed correlated factors., Results: Eighteen patients with PAS were included. The mean RRRP was 152.64 ± 147.97 cm
3 /month. The median natural resorption time was 5.5 months. According to Spearman's correlation, only the initial placental volume was significantly associated with RRRP (p = 0.001, correlation coefficient = 0.701). Initial placental volume was not associated with postpartum hemorrhage, postpartum infection, resume of menstruation, subsequent pregnancy, or mean white blood cell count., Conclusion: 3D ultrasound is useful for measuring the volume of residual placenta. 32. A comprehensive study of pre-eclampsia in IVF and natural conceptions: clinical phenotypes, perinatal outcomes and neonatal echocardiography.

- Abstract
Research Question: What differences exist in the phenotypes of pre-eclampsia, perinatal outcomes and neonatal echocardiography between pregnancies conceived naturally and through IVF?, Design: Six hundred and ten women diagnosed with pre-eclampsia between January 2002 and December 2022 were included in this study. This research was conducted within the IVF and Maternal-Fetal Medicine Department of Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taiwan. Participants were divided into two groups: those who achieved pregnancy through IVF, and those who conceived naturally. The phenotypes of pre-eclampsia and perinatal outcomes were assessed using a propensity-matched sample (n = 218), along with neonatal echocardiography., Results: After conducting propensity score matching, the natural conception group had a higher prevalence of early-onset pre-eclampsia (53.9% versus 37.7%, P = 0.04) and exhibited more severe features of pre-eclampsia (89.1% versus 69.8%, P = 0.01) compared with the IVF group. Regarding perinatal outcomes, neonates in the IVF group had higher placental weights compared with the natural conception group (580 versus 480 g, P = 0.031). The prevalence of abnormal findings on neonatal echocardiography was similar between the groups. Multivariate analysis showed that greater gestational age at delivery reduced the likelihood of abnormal findings on echocardiography [adjusted risk ratio (aRR) 0.950, P = 0.001], while pregestational diabetes mellitus increased the likelihood of abnormal findings (aRR 1.451, P = 0.044). Septal defects were the most common type of defect, occurring in 16.1% of infants., Conclusion: The impact of IVF conception on the severity of pre-eclampsia is not as expected. Neonatal echocardiography revealed a higher prevalence of abnormalities in offspring of women with pre-eclampsia compared with the general population. However, these issues were not linked to the method of conception, suggesting the existence of undisclosed factors that could influence the clinical features and perinatal outcomes of pre-eclampsia., (Copyright © 2024 Reproductive Healthcare Ltd. 33. Umbilical Cord Wraps around a Newborn's Legs like Ankle Shackles.

- Abstract
A 36-year-old woman, gravida 3, para 1 (previous cesarean section), with one medical abortion, and no history of systemic diseases presented an unremarkable medical history during prenatal visits. The final prenatal ultrasound at 38 weeks of gestation showed a vertex presentation, a weight of 2600 g, a normal amniotic fluid level, and the placenta located on the posterior wall of the uterus. Fetal cardiotocography conducted before delivery reported a reactive heart rate without decelerations. The Doppler wave analysis of the fetal umbilical artery was normal (the ratio of peak-systolic flow velocity to the end-diastolic flow velocity was 2.5) without the absence or reversal of end-diastolic velocity. The total score of the fetal biophysical profile by ultrasound was 8. The night before the scheduled cesarean section, she experienced heightened anxiety and was unable to sleep, noting "crazy" fetal movements throughout the night. During the cesarean section, it was discovered that the umbilical cord was wrapped around the newborn's legs, resembling ankle shackles. The fetal weight was 2740 g, and Apgar scores were 9 at the first minute and 10 at the fifth minute. The motility of the neonatal legs was normal without cyanosis or neurological adverse outcomes.

34. Biophotonics as a new application in optical technology: A bibliometric analysis.

- Abstract
Biophotonics procures wide practicability in life sciences and medicines. The contribution of biophotonics is well recognized in various Nobel Prizes. Therefore, this paper aims to conduct a bibliometric analysis of biophotonics publications. The scientific database used is the Web of Science database. Harzing's Publish or Perish and VOSviewer are the bibliometric tools used in this analysis. This study found an increasing trend in the number of publications in recent years as the number of publications peaked at 347 publications in 2020. Most of the documents are articles (3361 publications) and proceeding papers (1632 publications). The top three subject areas are Optics (3206 publications), Engineering (1706 publications) and Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, and Medical Imaging (1346 publications). The United States has the highest number of publications (2041 publications) and citation impact (38.07 citations per publication; h -index: 125). The top three publication titles are Proceedings of SPIE (920 publications), Journal of Biomedical Optics (599 publications), and Proceedings of the Society of Photo Optical Instrumentation Engineers SPIE (245 publications). 35. Effect of six-week short-duration deep breathing on young adults with chronic ankle instability-a pilot randomized control trial.

- Abstract
Background: Chronic ankle instability (CAI) is the most common injury in youth sports, which leads to psychological stress from doubting their performance. Cost effective and easy to access tool to reduce the stress among this target group are desired. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of adding on intervention with short-duration deep breathing (SDDB) alongside with conventional physiotherapy (CP) among young adults with chronic ankle instability (CAI)., Methods: Total of 30 CAI participants attended physiotherapy, who were randomly assigned into control and experimental groups. The participants in the experimental group received combined intervention (SDDB + CP), and the control group received CP for 6 weeks. The effectiveness of interventions was assessed at 3 intervals with a battery of questionnaires (Visual Analog Score, Cumberland Ankle Instability Tool, Mindful Attention Awareness Scale, and Oxford Happiness Questionnaire) at the end of week 3, week 6, and week 12 as follow-up. A two-way repeated measures of ANOVA was applied to report the statistical significance at p < 0.05., Results: The results showed a better improvement in pain, balance, happiness, and mindfulness attention among participants in the experimental group, with a significant improvement in mindful attention over the time point as compared to the control group., Conclusion: The findings provide insight into incorporating SDDB additions to the existing CP for better CAI management. 36. Development of audio-guided deep breathing and auditory Go/No-Go task on evaluating its impact on the wellness of young adults: a pilot study.

- Abstract
Objectives: Numerous studies indicate that deep breathing (DB) enhances wellbeing. Multiple deep breathing methods exist, but few employ audio to reach similar results. This study developed audio-guided DB and evaluated its immediate impacts on healthy population via self-created auditory Go/No-Go task, tidal volume changes, and psychological measures., Methods: Audio-guided DB with natural sounds to guide the DB was developed. Meanwhile, audio-based Go/No-Go paradigm with Arduino was built to measure the attention level. Thirty-two healthy young adults (n=32) were recruited. Psychological questionnaires (Rosenberg's Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), Cognitive and Affective Mindfulness Scale-Revised (CAMS-R), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS)), objective measurements with tidal volume and attention level with auditory Go/No-Go task were conducted before and after 5 min of DB., Results: Results showed a significant increment in tidal volume and task reaction time from baseline (p=0.003 and p=0.033, respectively). Significant correlations were acquired between (1) task accuracy with commission error (r=-0.905), (2) CAMS-R with task accuracy (r=-0.425), commission error (r=0.53), omission error (r=0.395) and PSS (r=-0.477), and (3) RSES with task reaction time (r=-0.47), task accuracy (r=-0.362), PSS (r=-0.552) and CAMS-R (r=0.591)., Conclusions: This pilot study suggests a link between it and young adults' wellbeing and proposes auditory Go/No-Go task for assessing attention across various groups while maintaining physical and mental wellness., (© 2023 Walter de Gruyter GmbH, Berlin/Boston.)

37. Movements of Magnetite-Encapsulated Graphene Particles at Air-Water Interface and Their Cell Growths under Dynamic Magnetic Field.

- Abstract
The motion of magnetic particles under magnetic fields is an object to be solved in association with basic and practical phenomena. Movement phenomena of magnetite-encapsulated graphene particles at air-water interfaces were evaluated by manufacturing a feedback control system of the magnetic field to cause the motion of particles due to magnetic torque. A homogeneous magnetic field was generated using two pairs of electromagnets located perpendicular to each other, which were connected to an electronic switch. The system influenced the translational movement and the self-rotational speed of magnetic particles located at a center on the surface of fluid media in a continuous duty cycle. Operating the particle at a remote control in the same duty cycle at the air-water surface, the short and elongated magnetic particles successfully rotated. In addition, the rotational speed of the curved particle was slower than that of the elongated particle. The results indicate that the translational and self-rotational movements of magnetite-encapsulated graphene particles at the air-water interface under the external magnetic field are size- and shape-dependent for the speed and the direction. A short magnetic particle was used as a target particle to rotate on cancer cell lines, aiming to study the advantage of this method to induce the growth of HeLa cells. It was monitored for up to 4 days with and without magnetic particles by checking the viability and morphology of cells before and after the electromagnetic treatment. As an outcome, the movement of magnetic particles reduced the number of biological cells, at least on HeLa cells, but it was inactive on the viability of HeLa cells.

- Abstract
The East Asian Flyway (EAF) is the most species diverse of global flyways, with deforestation in its migratory landbird's non-breeding range suspected to be the main driver of population decline. Yet range-wide habitat loss impact assessments on EAF migratory landbirds are scarce, and seasonal variation in habitat preference of migratory species further increases the complexity for conservation strategies. In this study, we reviewed population trends of migratory forest breeding birds in the EAF along with their seasonal habitat preference from the literature and assessed the impact of forest cover change in species' breeding and non-breeding ranges on population trends. We found that 41.3% of the bird species with trend data available are declining, and most have higher forest preference in the breeding season. Despite 93.4% of the species experienced deforestation throughout their annual cycle, forest cover change in the non-breeding range was not identified as the main driver of population trend. However, forest cover change in species' regional breeding range interacts positively with the degree of breeding season forest preference in predicting population trends. We therefore stress that regional breeding habitat protection may still be important while following the call for cross-border collaboration to fill the information gap for flyway conservation., (© 2023. 39. Associations between Smoking Status and Health-Related Physical Fitness and Balance Ability among Older Males in Taiwan.

The primary aim of this study was to examine the relationships between smoking status and health-related physical fitness and balance ability in older males residing in Taiwan. This investigation adopted a cross-sectional design, utilizing data from 7688 older males who took part in the 2014-2015 wave of the National Physical Fitness Survey of Taiwan. Various data sources, including a standardized structured questionnaire, anthropometric measurements, health-related physical fitness assessments, and balance ability tests, were analyzed. The participants were divided into three categories based on their smoking habits: never smokers, former smokers, and current smokers. Multiple regression analyses were performed to evaluate the linear association between cigarette smoking status and health-related physical fitness and balance ability performance. Health-related physical fitness and balance performance were significantly greater ( p < 0.05) in the never smoker group than in the current smoker group. Current smoking status was significantly negatively ( p < 0.05) associated with cardiopulmonary function, muscular endurance, flexibility, and balance performance. A history of smoking (former smoker) was significantly negatively ( p < 0.05) associated with the 2-min step test, 30-s arm curl and chair stand, as well as the 8-foot up-and-go test; however, the association was not significant for the back scratch, chair sit-and-reach, and one-leg stance with eyes open performance. These results suggest that current cigarette smoking is detrimental to health-related physical fitness and balance performance in older males. Quitting smoking may reverse the effects of smoking on overall body flexibility and static balance performance in Taiwanese older adults, thereby reducing the risk of falls and incapacity.

Here, we demonstrate the dual role of an Arabidopsis ERF gene, AtERF19, in regulating reproductive meristem activity and flower organ size through the regulation of genes involved in CLAVATA-WUSCHEL (CLV-WUS) and auxin signaling, respectively. We found that AtERF19 stimulated the formation of flower primordia and controlled the number of flowers produced by activating WUS and was negatively regulated by CLV3. 35S::AtERF19 expression resulted in significantly more flowers, whereas 35S::AtERF19 + SRDX dominant-negative mutants produced fewer flowers. In addition, AtERF19 also functioned to control flower organ size by promoting the division/expansion of the cells through activating Small Auxin Up RNA Gene 32 (SAUR32), which positively regulated MYB21/24 in the auxin signaling pathway. 35S::AtERF19 and 35S::SAUR32 resulted in similarly larger flowers, whereas 35S::AtERF19 + SRDX and 35S::SAUR32-RNAi mutants produced smaller flowers than the wild type. The functions of AtERF19 were confirmed by the production of similarly more and larger flowers in 35S::AtERF19 transgenic tobacco (Nicotiana benthamiana) and in transgenic Arabidopsis which ectopically expressed the orchid gene (Nicotiana benthamiana) PaERF19 than in wild-type plants. The finding that AtERF19 regulates genes involved in both CLV-WUS and auxin signaling during flower development significantly expands the current knowledge of the multifunctional evolution of ERF genes in plants. The results presented in this work indicate a dual role for the transcription factor AtERF19 in controlling the number of flowers produced and flower organ size through the regulation of genes involved in CLV-WUS and auxin signaling, respectively. 41. Gender and Age Differences in Anthropometric Characteristics of Taiwanese Older Adults Aged 65 Years and Older.

- Abstract
A previous study provided reference data on the age and gender distribution of anthropometric parameters in Taiwanese adults. However, there are very few large-scale analyses of anthropometric data of older adults in Taiwan. Therefore, the main purpose of this study was to describe gender- and age-specific distributions of anthropometric measurements and anthropometry assessments of Taiwanese older adults. This was a cross-sectional study conducted on 22,389 adults aged 65 years or older (8017 males and 14,372 females) who participated in Taiwan's National Physical Fitness Survey 2014-2015. All participants were recruited using stratified convenience sampling from 46 physical fitness test stations in 22 cities or counties in Taiwan. The anthropometric measurements and anthropometry assessments included in the present study were the assessments of height, weight, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), hip circumference (HC), and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR). The results showed statistically significant differences in weight, height, WC, and WHR across all age groups among both male and female individuals aged 65 years and older in Taiwan. However, there was no significant difference in BMI and HC between males and females in all age groups. Anthropometric status provides an initial assessment of the overall health of the population. This study uses a representative population of Taiwanese older adults over the age of 65 for analysis and provides detailed information on anthropometric data distribution.

42. Bibliometric Analysis of Granger Causality Studies.

- Abstract
Granger causality provides a framework that uses predictability to identify causation between time series variables. This is important to policymakers for effective policy management and recommendations. Granger causality is recognized as the primary advance on the causation problem. The objective of this paper is to conduct a bibliometric analysis of Granger causality publications indexed in the Web of Science database. Harzing's Publish or Perish and VOSviewer were used for performance analysis and science mapping. The first paper indexed was published in 1981 and there has been an upward trend in the annual publication of Granger causality studies which are shifting towards the areas of environmental science, energy, and economics. Most of the publications are articles and proceeding papers under the areas of business economics, environmental science ecology, and neurosciences/neurology. China has the highest number of publications while the United States has the highest number of citations. England has the highest citation impact. This paper also constructed country co-authorship, co-analysis of cited references, cited sources, and cited authors, keyword co-occurrence, and keyword overlay visualization maps.

43. The Studies on Chitosan for Sustainable Development: A Bibliometric Analysis.

- Abstract
Chitosan is a biocompatible polymer with vast applications in pharmacology, medicine, paper making, agriculture, and the food industry due to its low toxicity. Chitosan also plays an important role in the sustainable environment since chitosan is able to absorb greenhouse gases, harmful organic matter, and heavy ions. Therefore, this paper conducts a bibliometric analysis of chitosan for sustainable development using the Scopus database from 1976 to 2023. A performance analysis on the 8002 documents was performed with Harzing's Publish or Perish. Science mapping was conducted using VOSviewer. The annual publication on chitosan for sustainable development showed an upward trend in recent years as the annual publication peaked in 2022 with 1178 documents with most of the documents being articles and published in journals. Material science, chemistry, and engineering are tightly related subject areas. China had the highest publication of 1560 total documents while the United States had the most impactful publication with 55,019 total citations, 68.77 citations per document, 77.6 citations per cited document, h -index 110, and g -index of 211. India had the largest international collaboration with 572 total link strength. "International Journal of Biological Macromolecules", "Carbohydrate Polymers", and "Polymers" have been identified as the top three source titles that publish the most documents on chitosan for sustainable development. The emerging trends in chitosan on sustainable development focus on the application of chitosan as an antibacterial agent and biosorbent for contaminants, especially in water treatment.

Objective . The therapeutic application of noninvasive brain stimulation modalities such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) has expanded in terms of indications and patient populations. Often neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative changes are not considered in research studies and clinical applications. This study sought to examine TMS dosing across time points in the life cycle. Approach . TMS induced electric fields with a figure-of-eight coil was simulated at left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex regions and taken in vertex as a control region. Realistic magnetic resonance imaging-based head models ( N = 48) were concurrently examined in a cross-sectional study of three different age groups (children, adults, and elderlies). Main results . Age had a negative correlation with electric field peaks in white matter, grey matter and cerebrospinal fluid ( P < 0.001). Notably, the electric field map in children displayed the widest cortical surface spread of TMS induced electric fields. Significance . Age-related anatomical geometry beneath the coil stimulation site had a significant impact on the TMS induced electric fields for different age groups. Safety considerations for TMS applications and protocols in children are warranted based on the present electric field findings., (Creative Commons Attribution license.)

45. The Studies on Gallium Nitride-Based Materials: A Bibliometric Analysis.

- Abstract
Gallium nitride (GaN) has a wide energy band gap and a high power density, efficiency, switching frequency, and electron carrier mobility, having broad applications in digitization. Because GaN has high potentials, this study performed a bibliometric analysis on the publications of GaN indexed in the Web of Science database from 1970 to 2023. A performance analysis of the 15,634 publications was performed using Harzing's Publish or Perish tool, while science mappings were performed with VOSviewer software. The results show that there has been an uptrend in the on-going research on GaN, especially in the past decade. Most of the documents are within the fields of physics, engineering, and materials science. The United States has the highest number of publications and the most impactful research. The United States is also actively collaborating with other countries to gain deeper insights into GaN. The analysis shows that the concentration of GaN research is slowly moving towards the development of high-voltage operations.

Background: Athletes with chronic ankle pain (CAP) are more inclined to suffer from physical and psychological pain depending on the severity of the injuries, which might trigger the powerless feeling on future sports participation. Therefore, an efficient and simple method is useful to integrate into conventional physiotherapy (CP) for maintaining mental wellness., Objective: This research aimed to verify the effects and progress of video-guided deep breathing (DB) integrated into CP through study on the changes of alpha waves and pain scale., Methods: Alpha waves were recorded using an electroencephalogram (EEG) and a visual analogue scale (VAS) to assess pain intensity before and after the intervention (6 weeks). Thirty CAP participants were recruited and randomly assigned to two groups: group A for video-guided DB integration into their CP and group B for CP. The effects of pre and post intervention were analyzed using a paired t-test with statistical significance set at p< 0.05., Results: Profound results from the research have shown that the participants who received both the DB+CP revealed a significant increase in alpha wave (p< 0.05) at occipital region., Conclusion: The significant result reveals an increase in alpha waves in the occipital region after 6 weeks and indicates that the video-guided DB with a smartphone application is able to produce a change in CAP participants. This supports the DB integration to the CP for altering the pain perception.

47. Relationship between Regular Leisure-Time Physical Activity and Underweight and Overweight Status in Taiwanese Young Adults: A Cross-Sectional Study.

- Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine the association between regular leisure-time physical activity (LTPA) and various body mass index (BMI) categories in Taiwanese young adults. A total of 10,802 young adults (18−44 years) were enrolled in a national telephone survey. The questionnaire data from this survey included socio-demographic characteristics, zip code of residence, LTPA behaviors, self-reported health status, and self-evaluated anthropometric measurements, which included height, body weight, and BMI. Regular and non-regular LTPA behaviors were defined as follows: (1) Regular LTPA: participants who reported breathing quickly and sweating when participating in 150−300 min per week of moderate-intensity LTPA or 75−150 min per week of vigorous-intensity LTPA. (2) Non-regular LTPA: the rest of the participants. The various BMI categories were defined as (1) underweight (BMI < 18.5 kg/m2), (2) normal weight (18.5 ≤ BMI < 24 kg/m2), (3) overweight (24 ≤ BMI < 27 kg/m2), and (4) obese (BMI ≥ 27 kg/m2). When compared with participants with non-regular LTPA, participants with regular LTPA exhibited lower risks of being overweight (odds ratio [OR], 0.837; 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.738−0.948) and underweight (OR, 0.732; 95% CI 0.611−0.876). However, there was no significant relationship between regular LTPA and obesity risk when using non-regular LTPA as the baseline after adjusting for potential confounders. The study results revealed that regular LTPA effectively reduced the risks of being underweight and overweight. However, for people with obesity, regular LTPA was unable to significantly decrease their obesity risk.

Background and Objectives : Health-related physical fitness reduces the risk of chronic disease, promotes quality of life, and has enormous economic benefits considering the global health care costs resulting from obesity. However, relatively limited information is available regarding the dose-response relationship between scientific physical fitness and obesity risk. This study aimed to determine the associations of scientific physical fitness with body mass index (BMI) distribution and overweight/obesity risk among adults aged 23-64 years in Taiwan. Materials and Methods : We conducted a cross-sectional study and reviewed data derived from the Scientific Physical Fitness Testing Program, Sports Administration, Ministry of Education, Taiwan. Responses from 16,939 participants from the database (7761 men and 9178 women, aged 23-64 years) were collected in this study. Each participant completed a series of scientific physical fitness measurements, including cardiorespiratory fitness (3 min progressive knee-up and step [3MPKS] test), muscular fitness (hand grip strength), and flexibility (sit-and-reach test). Anthropometric measurements included body height, weight, and BMI. The quartiles of scientific physical fitness results were identified as the dependent variable in the multiple linear and multiple logistic regression analysis to determine the associations of the scientific physical fitness measurements with BMI distribution and overweight/obesity risk, as well as the dose-response relationship. Results : The 3MPKS test was significantly associated with BMI (quartile 1 (Q1): β = 1.900; quartile 2 (Q2): β = 1.594; quartile 3 (Q3): β = 1.079 for men, and Q1: β = 1.454; Q2: β = 0.882; Q3: β = 0.555 for women), overweight (Q1: odds ratio (OR) = 2.117; Q2: OR = 2.056; Q3: OR = 2.063 for men, and Q1: OR = 3.036; Q2: OR = 2.542; Q3: OR = 1.959 for women), and obesity (Q1: OR = 6.530; Q2: OR = 5.747; Q3: OR = 3.557 for men, and Q1: OR = 3.238; Q2: OR = 1.431 for women) risk compared with quartile 4 (Q4) as the reference group with a dose-response relationship. In addition, relative hand grip strength was significantly associated with BMI (Q2: β = -0.922; Q3: β = -1.865; Q4: β = -3.108 for men, and Q2: β = -1.309; Q3: β = -2.161; Q4: β = -2.759 for women), overweight (Q2: OR = 0.806; Q3: OR = 0.697; Q4: OR = 0.278 for men, and Q2: OR = 0.667; Q3: OR = 0.398; Q4: OR = 0.228 for women), and obesity (Q1: OR = 0.528; Q2: OR = 0.206; Q3: OR = 0.049 for men, and Q1: OR = 0.351; Q2: OR = 0.129; Q3: OR = 0.051 for women) risk compared with Q1 as the reference group with a dose-response relationship. Conclusions : Higher levels of performance of the 3MPKS and relative grip strength tests were associated with lower BMI and overweight/obesity risk in both sexes. However, the sit-and-reach test was only partially related to BMI and overweight/obesity risk in both sexes. Cardiorespiratory fitness and muscular fitness were effective predictors of BMI distribution and overweight/obesity risk in Taiwanese adults.

- Abstract
Background: Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) is a relative safe procedure in bariatric surgery. However, relatively few studies had been assessed its comprehensive efficacies. In the current study, the efficacies of LSG were comprehensively explored on glycemic control and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk reduction., Methods: A total of 95 obese patients, who owned body mass index (BMI) of more than 35, were recruited. All of them primarily underwent LSG from 2014 to 2016. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) remission was defined as levels of glycated hemoglobin (A1C) and fasting blood glucose (FBG) of less than 6.4% and 125 mg/dL, respectively. The further efficacies of LSG on CVD and coronary heart disease (CHD) risks were explored by using original- and recalibrated Framingham 10-year CHD risk scores and the other 3 well-established CVD risk prediction models., Results: Systolic blood pressure (SBP), serum FBG, A1C, triglyceride (TG), BMI, and body weight showed significantly declined and high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL) displayed twice higher than beginning level after LSG. The 71 of 95 patients with obesity were T2DM; 62 of them exhibited persistent DM remission until 1 year after LSG. Cardiovascular age, general cardiovascular risk (GCVR), and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease risk (ASCVD) also showed significant decrements after LSG. We also observed significant reductions in estimated CVD and CHD risks., Conclusion: LSG resulted in a persistent T2DM remission and corrected metabolic abnormalities. Subsequently, LSG also benefits declined risks of CVD and 10-year CHD developments. LSG may be helpful for primary CVD care in obese patients with BMI of more than 35., (© 2022. Statistical information theory is a method for quantifying the amount of stochastic uncertainty in a system. This theory originated in communication theory. The application of information theoretic approaches has been extended to different fields. This paper aims to perform a bibliometric analysis of information theoretic publications listed on the Scopus database. The data of 3701 documents were extracted from the Scopus database. The software used for analysis includes Harzing's Publish or Perish and VOSviewer. Results including publication growth, subject areas, geographical contributions, country co-authorship, most cited publications, keyword co-occurrence analysis, and citation metrics are presented in this paper. Publication growth has been steady since 2003. The United States has the highest number of publications and received more than half of the total citations from all 3701 publications. Most of the publications are in computer science, engineering, and mathematics. The United States, the United Kingdom, and China have the highest collaboration across countries. The focus on information theoretic is slowly shifting from mathematical models to technology-driven applications such as machine learning and robotics. This study highlights the trends and developments of information theoretic publications, which helps researchers to understand the state of the art of information theoretic approaches for future contributions in this research domain.
