Career exploration has always been the key to career development, but exploring the formation mechanism of career exploration behaviour from teachers' perspective is still inadequate. A three-stage time-lagged research design is used to obtain a valid sample of 1246 college students from mainland China. Based on self-determination theory, this paper analyzes the causal mechanisms of career exploration from the dual motivation of controlled motivation of teachers' support and autonomous motivation of future work self-salience of college students to explore the mechanisms and function boundaries of career exploration of college students. The results showed that: (1) Students' perceived teacher support positively influences career exploration; (2) Future work self-salience positively moderates the mediating effect of learning engagement on the relationship between perceived teacher support and career exploration. This research contributes to how to enhance the positive effects of career exploration are proposed.

The Road of Tang Poetry in Eastern Zhejiang is a cultural route where nature and culture harmoniously intertwine. Mountain-type scenic areas play a vital role in providing core cultural ecosystem services (CES). To investigate the significance and distribution of landscape resources along the Poetry Road, a preliminary study was conducted in the densely concentrated areas of Shaoxing, Taizhou, and Ningbo. From these regions, six representative mountain-type scenic areas were selected for the research: Kuaiji Mountain, Qinwang Mountain, Wanwei Mountain, Tianmu Mountain, Tiantai Mountain, and Xuedou Mountain. Based on their designation status, these areas were categorized into national and non-national scenic areas. The research employed a combination of online and offline questionnaires, as well as semi-structured interviews. An importance-performance analysis (IPA) was introduced, and SPSS software was utilized to conduct U-tests on the statistical results. This analysis aimed to compare the differences in importance and performance of CES among the various mountain-type scenic areas. Furthermore, an overall evaluation of CES for the mountain-type scenic area was carried out using an optimization demand zoning approach, involving categories such as “Keeping up the good job”, “Concentrate here”, “Possible overkill”, and “Low priority”. Additionally, a comparative analysis was conducted between the two types of mountain-type scenic areas, considering aspects like aesthetic value, leisure tourism, cultural diversity, and nature education. The findings indicate that the overall importance of the core CES provided by mountain-type scenic areas significantly exceeds the performance score, implying that public expectations for these sites surpass the actual experience. Notably, the distinction between the two types of mountain-type scenic areas, national and non-national, lies primarily in their performance. Among the evaluation subcomponents, respondents’ perceptions are notably influenced by natural resource advantages, architectural style, recreation offerings, site iconicity, and historical heritage and preservation. The abundance of cultural activities emerges as a crucial factor contributing to the substantial performance disparity between the two types of scenic areas, underscoring the significant impact of cultural heritage on the development imbalance in mountain-type region. Furthermore, cultural heritage plays a pivotal role in promoting the establishment and enhancing the competitiveness and identity of mountain-type scenic areas. Consequently, prioritizing the protection and utilization of non-national mountain-type scenic areas cultural heritage can effectively elevate the level of CES supply and meet the demand in mountain-type scenic areas. The IPA has promoted the CES performance of mountain-type scenic areas to be closer to its importance, thereby fostering a more balanced CES of the Road of Tang Poetry in Eastern Zhejiang.

Heart rate variability (HRV) is an important metric in cardiovascular health monitoring. Spectral analysis of HRV provides essential insights into the functioning of the cardiac autonomic nervous system. However, data artefacts could degrade signal quality, potentially leading to unreliable assessments of cardiac activities. In this study, we introduced a novel approach for estimating uncertainties in HRV spectrum based on matrix completion. The proposed method utilises the low-rank characteristic of HRV spectrum matrix to efficiently estimate data uncertainties. In addition, we developed a refined matrix completion technique to enhance the estimation accuracy and computational cost. Benchmarking on five public datasets, our model shows effectiveness and reliability in estimating uncertainties in HRV spectrum, and has superior performance against five deep learning models. The results underscore the potential of our developed matrix completion-based statistical machine learning model in providing reliable HRV spectrum uncertainty estimation.

Abstract This study deeply analyzes the ecocultural heritage of the Tiantai Mountain area in Eastern China, assesses its current status and explores effective mechanisms for its conservation and construction. Employing remote sensing technology, kernel density analysis and Minimum Cumulative Resistance Model, the study comprehensively evaluated the environmental characteristics of the region and its role in historical and modern conservation efforts. The results demonstrate the unique distribution patterns of ecocultural heritage in various conservation zones, such as restoration, controlled construction and core conservation zone. Furthermore, the study highlights the importance of religious beliefs and clan systems in the preservation of traditional knowledge and practices, with significant impacts of local community participation on conservation strategies. This research provides new theoretical and practical support for the implemention of ecocultural heritage conservation and development within religiously significant areas, highlights the need for conservation measures and synergistic strategies between ecological and cultural practices.

Abstract Background The present study is to evaluate the clinical characteristics of patients with temporomandibular disorders (TMD). Methods A total of 3362 TMD patients were included. Each participant had complete medical records according to the diagnostic criteria for temporomandibular disorders (DC/TMD). The clinical characteristics including symptoms and signs in relation to age and gender were analyzed. Results The mean age of the patients seeking care was 29.89 ± 13.73Y, and 68.6% of patients were aged 16–35 years. The female-to-male ratio of patients was 2.2: 1, and the average age of males was significantly lower than that of females. The prevalence of clicking symptoms decreased with age, while the prevalence of pain symptoms and limitations in jaw movement increased with age. Females were more likely to have limitations in jaw movement than males. Among the patients with pain, the average visual analogue scale (VAS) was 2.96 ± 1.23. The average VAS score of acute TMD patients (≤ 3 months) was significantly higher than that of chronic TMD patients (> 3 months). Conclusions The majority of TMD patients seeking care were young people. The number and average age of female patients was higher than the males. Female patients were more likely to have limitations in jaw movement than males.

Background: Socially shared regulation is a vital factor that affects students' collaborative programming performance. However, students' weak group metacognitive skills or inability to adopt shared regulation mechanisms lead to unsatisfactory collaborative programming learning. Objectives: This study proposes an approach to support socially shared regulation in collaborative programming learning in order to enhance students' programming achievements and group metacognition. Methods: A quasi-experimental study was conducted in a junior high school over a 10-week period to investigate the impact of the proposed approach on programming achievements, group metacognition, and cognitive load. Forty eighth-grade students participated in the study, with the experimental group learning via the proposed approach, while the control group used the conventional collaborative programming learning approach. Results and Conclusions: The analysis included data from 38 participants. The experimental results showed that the programming achievements and group metacognition of the experimental group were significantly better than those of the control group. Additionally, the proposed approach did not increase the cognitive load of the students. Implications: This study has important implications for teachers, learners, and researchers in collaborative programming and social regulation. Our proposed collaborative programming learning approach enhances learners' social regulation and performance, providing teachers with an effective tool for improving collaborative programming learning. This study also extends the field of socially shared regulation of learning (SSRL), demonstrating its potential to improve the effectiveness of collaborative programming learning and highlighting the need for future research to explore the mechanisms of SSRL in this context.

ABSTRACTThe multi-angle method in the pixel dichotomy model (PDM) is used to produce fine spatial resolution (FSR) products of fractional vegetation cover (FVC), which involves numerous iterative computations. This phenomenon causes a low computational efficiency for global FVC. Here, we established the multi-angle equations, and simplified the two-stream approximation method to obtain multi-angle reflectance, which calculated the KDM parameters possible. Moreover, to accelerate the calculation of parameters in the multi-angle equations, land cover data were utilized as priority knowledge, which aims to decrease iterative computations to speed up the computational speed. Finally, we proposed an accelerated pixel dichotomy coupled linear kernel-driven model (PDKDM-A). By validating PDKDM-A using field measurements and FVC products, we found that the global FVC computed for various land covers exhibited strong agreement with the field measurements. The root mean square errors (RMSEs) were consistently below 0.150, except for grasslands, croplands, and cropland/natural vegetation mosaics. When comparing FVC products on the same scale, we discovered that the RMSE was less than 0.103, except for deciduous broadleaf forests. Our study demonstrates that PDKDM-A is an efficient algorithm, with the potential to quickly generate accurate global FVC products with fine spatial resolution.

Abstract Multiple sevoflurane exposures may damage the developing brain. The neuroprotective function of dexmedetomidine has been widely confirmed in animal experiments and human studies. However, the effect of dexmedetomidine on the glymphatic system has not been clearly studied. We hypothesized that dexmedetomidine could alleviate sevoflurane-induced circulatory dysfunction of the glymphatic system in young mice. Six-day-old C57BL/6 mice were exposed to 3% sevoflurane for 2 h daily, continuously for 3 days. Intraperitoneal injection of either normal saline or dexmedetomidine was administered before every anaesthesia. Meanwhile the circulatory function of glymphatic system was detected by tracer injection at P8 and P32. On P30-P32, behavior tests including open field test, novel object recognition test, and Y-maze test were conducted. Primary astrocyte cultures were established and treated with the PI3K activator 740Y-P, dexmedetomidine, and small interfering RNA (siRNA) to silence ΔFosB. We propose for the first time that multiple exposure to sevoflurane induces circulatory dysfunction of the glymphatic system in young mice. Dexmedetomidine improves the circulatory capacity of the glymphatic system in young mice following repeated exposure to sevoflurane through the PI3K/AKT/ΔFosB/AQP4 signaling pathway, and enhances their long-term learning and working memory abilities.

Objective: To compare the multifractal features and factors of the Chinese and American stock markets and their correlation, complexity and uncertainty. Methods: The paper analyzes the CSI 300 and S&P 500 indices from March 2018 to March 2023 using the MF-DCCA model and removes the long-term memory and nonlinear effects by random reshuffling and phase processing methods. Results: The paper shows that (1) CSI 300 and S&P 500 have multifractal features, with different long-term memory, complexity and irregularity at different scales; (2) The markets are fractal movements influenced by investors’ irrationality and expectations, not efficient markets; (3) Long-term memory and nonlinear effects cause the multifractal features. The paper offers a new perspective and method for the market investors and regulators.

Salinity is a major abiotic stress that seriously affects crop growth worldwide. In this work, we aimed to isolate potential halotolerant plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) to mitigate the adverse impacts of salt stress in rice. An isolate, D2, with multiple plant growth-promoting (PGP) characteristics was identified as Enterobacter asburiae D2. Strain D2 could produce indole-3-acetic acid and siderophore. It also exhibited phosphate solubilization and 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic deaminase activity. Genome analysis further provided insights into the molecular mechanism of its PGP abilities. Strain D2 inoculation efficiently stimulated rice growth under both normal and saline conditions. Compared with the non-inoculated plants, a significant increase in plant height (18.1–34.7%), root length (25.9–57.1%), root dry weight (57.1–150%), and shoot dry weight (17.3–50.4%) was recorded in inoculated rice seedlings. Meanwhile, rice seedlings inoculated with strain D2 showed improvement in chlorophyll and proline content, while the oxidant damage was reduced in these plants in comparison with the control group. Moreover, the K+/Na+ ratio of the inoculated rice seedlings exposed to NaCl and Na2CO3 was higher than that of the uninoculated groups. These results imply that Enterobacter asburiae D2 is a potential PGPR that can be used for alleviation of salt stress in rice.

Abstract Measuring muscle fatigue involves assessing various components within the motor system. While subjective and sensor-based measures have been proposed, a comprehensive comparison of these assessment measures is currently lacking. This study aims to bridge this gap by utilizing three commonly used measures: participant self-reported perceived muscle fatigue scores, a sports physiotherapist’s manual palpation-based muscle tightness scores, and surface electromyography sensors. Compensatory muscle fatigue occurs when one muscle group becomes fatigued, leading to the involvement and subsequent fatigue of other muscles as they compensate for the workload. The evaluation of compensatory muscle fatigue focuses on nine different upper body muscles selected by the sports physiotherapist. With a cohort of 30 male subjects, this study provides a valuable dataset for researchers and healthcare practitioners in sports science, rehabilitation, and human performance. It enables the exploration and comparison of diverse methods for evaluating different muscles in isometric contraction.

The device performance of indium zinc oxide (IZO) thin-film transistors (TFTs) is optimized through process optimizations. By jointly adjusting the annealing condition, the channel thickness and the sputtering atmosphere, the roughness and oxygen vacancies (Vos) are precisely regulated. The optimized IZO TFTs can achieve the highest field effect mobility of ~71.8 cm2/Vs with a threshold voltage of ~-0.6 V. Reliability of IZO TFTs under positive/negative bias stress is also examined. The interface quality and the Vo are two key factors influencing the device performance and reliability, confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy analysis.

Abstract Nonlinear epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) nanodevices featuring vanishing permittivity and CMOS-compatibility are attractive solutions for large-scale-integrated systems-on-chips. Such confined systems with unavoidable heat generation impose critical challenges for semiconductor-based ENZ performances. While their optical properties are temperature-sensitive, there is no systematic analysis on such crucial dependence. Here, we experimentally report the linear and nonlinear thermo-optic ENZ effects in indium tin oxide. We characterize its temperature-dependent optical properties with ENZ frequencies covering the telecommunication O-band, C-band, and 2-μm-band. Depending on the ENZ frequency, it exhibits an unprecedented 70–93-THz-broadband 660–955% enhancement over the conventional thermo-optic effect. The ENZ-induced fast-varying large group velocity dispersion up to 0.03–0.18 fs2nm−1 and its temperature dependence are also observed for the first time. Remarkably, the thermo-optic nonlinearity demonstrates a 1113–2866% enhancement, on par with its reported ENZ-enhanced Kerr nonlinearity. Our work provides references for packaged ENZ-enabled photonic integrated circuit designs, as well as a new platform for nonlinear photonic applications and emulations.

This study investigates the natural gas hydrates within the Qiongdongnan Basin by integrating well-log and seismic data. Through pre-stack inversion and rock physics analysis, key parameters such as P-wave and S-wave impedances were utilized to distinguish hydrate-bearing formations from other geological bodies. A low-frequency model was constructed using the Inverse Distance Weighting (IDW) algorithm to improve the precision of parameter inversion. This study employs a multi-constraint inversion strategy, incorporating hard constraints from multiple wells and soft constraints from geological frameworks, ensuring reliable inversion results. Findings indicate that hydrate reservoirs are characterized by increased wave velocity and density due to hydrate accumulation, providing insights into the spatial distribution and characteristics of hydrates. This research enhances the understanding of hydrate reservoirs and offers valuable data for exploration in the Qiongdongnan Basin.

ObjectiveTo assess the feasibility, safety, and efficiency of simultaneous anterograde video laparoscopic inguinal and pelvic lymphadenectomy for penile cancer.Materials and methodsWe reviewed retrospectively the records of 22 patients (44 lateral) who underwent inguinal lymph nodes dissection for penile cancer. The procedure was standardized as two planes, three holes, and six steps. Two Separate-planes: superior plane of eternal oblique aponeurosis/ / fascia lata; inferior plane of superficial camper fascia. Three holes: two artificial lateral boundary holes, the internal and external boundary holes, and the hole of oval fossa. Six steps: separate the first separate-plane; separate the second layer; separate two artificial lateral boundary holes; free great saphenous vein; separate the third hole and clean up the deep inguinal lymph nodes; pelvic lymphadenectomy.ResultsA total of 22 cases were included and 9 patients underwent simultaneous pelvic lymphadenectomy. The average operation time on both sides was 7.52 ± 3.29 h, which was 0.5–1 h/side after skilled. The average amount of bleeding was 93.18 ± 50.84 ml. A total of 8 patients had postoperative complications, accounting for 36.36%, and no complications great than Clavien-Dindo class III occurred.ConclusionThis study demonstrated that the video laparoscopic simultaneous anterograde inguinal and pelvic lymphadenectomy is a feasible and safe technique. Indocyanine Green was helpful for lymph node identify.

IntroductionGlycopyrrolate is commonly researched as a preoperative medication or in conjunction with cholinesterase inhibitors to counteract the lingering muscarinic effects of non-depolarizing muscarinic agents. However, studies have yielded inconsistent results regarding the superiority of glycopyrrolate over other anti-cholinergic drugs, such as atropine, particularly its effect on heart rate, blood pressure (BP), and glandular secretions. This study aimed to evaluate the differences in perioperative oral secretions, hemodynamics, and recovery quality with glycopyrrolate versus those with atropine before anesthesia induction in children undergoing tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy.MethodsIn this prospective, single-center, randomized, double-blind, controlled trial, a total of 103 children were randomly assigned to group A (n = 51, glycopyrrolate 0.005 mg/kg) or B (n = 52, atropine 0.01 mg/kg). The follow-up anesthetic induction and maintenance protocols were the same in both groups. Vital signs, duration of surgery, extubation time, degree of wetness around the vocal cords during tracheal intubation, weight of oral secretions, and perioperative complications were recorded.ResultsNo significant differences were observed in the degree of wetness around the vocal cords during tracheal intubation, as well as in the weight of oral secretions, duration of surgery, or extubation time, between the two groups. The intraoperative and postoperative heart rates were lower in group A than in group B (110.18 ± 10.58 vs. 114.94 ± 11.14, p = 0.028; 96.96 ± 10.81 vs. 103.38 ± 10.09, p = 0.002). The differences observed in the intraoperative and preoperative heart rates were lower in group A than in group B (23.84 ± 9.62 vs. 29.65 ± 8.75, p = 0.002). The differences observed in the postoperative and preoperative heart rates were lower in group A than in group B (10.63 ± 9.97 vs. 18.09 ± 9.39, p = 0.000).ConclusionGlycopyrrolate showed a smoother change in heart rate than atropine during and after tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy, with no effect on BP or recovery quality, and did not increase oral secretions. The findings indicate that glycopyrrolate can serve as an alternative to atropine to prevent secretions in anesthesia induction for tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy in children.Trial registration: This study was registered with the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (Registration Number: ChiCTR2200063578; Date of Registration: 12/09/2022).

Background Pelvic pain is a common complaint of discomfort in women, with an increasing incidence and seriously affecting patients’ quality of life. Its etiology involves multiple systems and disciplines, and therefore treatment modalities are diverse. Transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation (TEAS) therapy is a classic analgesic means, and electrical stimulation of local acupoints can achieve obvious analgesic effects. This review aims to discuss the application of TEAS for the treatment of various types of pelvic pain, the selection of optimal parameters and the renewal of equipment.Method Result TEAS for treatment of pelvic pain in women has been reported mainly for endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), intrauterine adhesion (IUA), pelvic stasis syndrome, interstitial cystitis, primary dysmenorrhoea and other diseases. And for parameter selection, the most used of frequency is dilatational wave, the most used stimulation intensity is 10–20 mA, and the acupoint selection should be based on the specific conditions of the patient.Conclusions The analgesic mechanism of TEAS has not been fully elucidated, but the efficacy of the treatment is remarkable and there are no significant adverse effects. The selection of the parameters for TEAS and the combination of acupoints for different pains are still the main directions of future research.

The contradiction between the economy and the environment is becoming more and more prominent. Green innovation is significant for Chinese manufacturing enterprises considering environmental and economic performance. Based on motivation theory and motivation crowding theory, this study aims to explore the impact of environmental regulations on green innovation of Chinese manufacturing enterprises and the mediating role of green human resource management between environmental regulations and green innovation of enterprises. Using structural equation modeling and SPSS macro, the results of the empirical analysis of 127 manufacturing enterprises in Guangdong Province, China, show that command-controlled regulation, market-incentivized regulation, and voluntary regulation positively impact enterprises’ green innovation, and green human resource management positively affects enterprises’ green innovation. Green human resource management only mediates the relationship between voluntary environmental regulation and green innovation. The study systematically reveals the driving mechanism of green innovation in Chinese manufacturing enterprises and enriches the relevant research on green innovation in manufacturing enterprises.

Background: Previously, our investigations have underscored the potential of hyperthermia to improve the therapeutic efficacy of gemcitabine (GEM) in pancreatic cancer (PC). Nonetheless, the precise underlying mechanisms remain elusive. Methods: We engineered two GEM-resistant PC cell lines (BxPC-3/GEM and PANC-1/GEM) and treated them with GEM alongside hyperthermia. The impact of hyperthermia on the therapeutic potency of GEM was ascertained through MTT assay, assessment of the concentration of its active metabolite dFdCTP, and evaluation of deoxycytidine kinase (dCK) activity. Lentivirus-mediated dCK silencing was further employed to validate its involvement in mediating the GEM-sensitizing effect of hyperthermia. The mechanism underlying hyperthermia-mediated dCK activation was explored using bioinformatics analyses. The interplay between hyperthermia and the ephrin A4 (EFNA4)/β-catenin/dCK axis was investigated, and their roles in GEM resistance was further explored via the establishment of xenograft tumor models in nude mice. Results: Hyperthermia restored dCK expression in GEM-resistant cell lines, concurrently enhancing GEM sensitivity and fostering DNA damage and cell death. These observed effects were negated by dCK silencing. Regarding the mechanism, hyperthermia activated dCK by downregulating EFNA4 expression and mitigating β-catenin activation. Overexpression of EFNA4 activated the β-catenin while suppressing dCK, thus diminishing cellular GEM sensitivity—a phenomenon remediated by the β-catenin antagonist MSAB. Consistently, in vivo, hyperthermia augmented the therapeutic efficacy of GEM on xenograft tumors through modulation of the ephrin A4/β-catenin/dCK axis. Conclusion: This study delineates the role of hyperthermia in enhancing GEM sensitivity of PC cells, primarily mediated through the suppression of the EFNA4/β-catenin axis and activation of dCK.

Zirconia faces challenges in dental implant applications due to its inherent biological inertness, which compromises osseointegration, a critical factor for the long-term success of implants that rely heavily on specific cell adhesion and enhanced osteogenic activity. Here, we fabricated a dual-functional coating that incorporates strontium ions, aimed at enhancing osteogenic activity, along with an integrin-targeting sequence to improve cell adhesion by mussel byssus-inspired surface chemistry. The results indicated that although the integrin-targeting sequence at the interface solely enhances osteoblast adhesion without directly increasing osteogenic activity, its synergistic interaction with the continuously released strontium ions from the coating, as compared to the release of strontium ions alone, significantly enhances the overall osteogenic effect. More importantly, compared to traditional polydopamine surface chemistry, the coating surface is enriched with amino groups capable of undergoing various chemical reactions and exhibits enhanced stability and aesthetic appeal. Therefore, the synergistic interplay between strontium and the functionally customizable surface offers considerable potential to improve the success of zirconia implantation.

Abstract Deep neural networks have been integrated into the whole clinical decision procedure which can improve the efficiency of diagnosis and alleviate the heavy workload of physicians. Since most neural networks are supervised, their performance heavily depends on the volume and quality of available labels. However, few such labels exist for rare diseases (e.g., new pandemics). Here we report a medical multimodal large language model (Med-MLLM) for radiograph representation learning, which can learn broad medical knowledge (e.g., image understanding, text semantics, and clinical phenotypes) from unlabelled data. As a result, when encountering a rare disease, our Med-MLLM can be rapidly deployed and easily adapted to them with limited labels. Furthermore, our model supports medical data across visual modality (e.g., chest X-ray and CT) and textual modality (e.g., medical report and free-text clinical note); therefore, it can be used for clinical tasks that involve both visual and textual data. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our Med-MLLM by showing how it would perform using the COVID-19 pandemic “in replay”. In the retrospective setting, we test the model on the early COVID-19 datasets; and in the prospective setting, we test the model on the new variant COVID-19-Omicron. The experiments are conducted on 1) three kinds of input data; 2) three kinds of downstream tasks, including disease reporting, diagnosis, and prognosis; 3) five COVID-19 datasets; and 4) three different languages, including English, Chinese, and Spanish. All experiments show that our model can make accurate and robust COVID-19 decision-support with little labelled data.

Abstract Background This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of hysteroscopic surgery for endogenous cesarean scar pregnancy (CSP) and the value of prophylactic ultrasound-guided local injection of lauromacrogol. Methods This retrospective study included 131 patients diagnosed with endogenous CSP who underwent hysteroscopic surgery at the Hangzhou Fuyang Women and Children Hospital between January 2018 and May 2022. Lauromacrogol (10–20 mL) was administered within 24 h preoperatively using an ultrasound-guided vaginal injection to 78 patients (L group) versus not administered to 53 patients (non-L group). Their clinical data and outcomes were analyzed. Gradient dislocation cell structured Al0.1CoCrFeNi high-entropy alloys exhibited exceptional strength and uniform ductility. HEA containing homogeneous dislocation cells, with the average size varying from 0.29 to 0.43 μm was observed to still exhibit a superior combination of high strength and good uniform elongation, distinct from traditional strong ultrafine-grained structures with limited ductility. This is because the initial dislocation cells tend to be progressively patterned into dense dislocation walls upon straining, associated with the massive dislocation motion and accumulation. The gradient-induced additional strain hardening behavior was clarified by directly comparing the mechanical behavior of the homogeneous and gradient samples.IMPACT STATEMENT Both high strength and good ductility can be simultaneously achieved in homogeneous ultrafine-sized dislocation cell, distinct from traditional strong, yet less ductile ultrafine-grained structures.

This is an essay in the field of process mineralogy. Deep sea rare earths are the fourth deep-sea mineral resource after polymetallic nodules, cobalt rich crusts and polymetallic sulphides. Taking the mud grade components of deep-sea sediments in the Western Pacific as the research object, this paper finds out that the sediment type of the sample is medium-grade deep-sea clay sediment, and the main elements in the mud grade samples are Al, Si, Fe, Mn, Na, Mg, K, etc, The main mineral phases are amorphous quartz, feldspar, clay minerals (illite (11.4%), montmorillonite (16%), clinoptilolite (20%) and calcium cruciform zeolite. The M/I ratio of the sample is 1.40, suggesting that it may be affected by volcanic materials. The mud fraction is mostly composed of aggregate particles formed by clay minerals and amorphous quartz. The fine apatite particles are embedded in the aggregate in a star shape, and REY may be mainly enriched in apatite particles.

River and lake health assessment (RLHA) is an important approach to alleviating the conflict between protecting river and lake ecosystems and fostering socioeconomic development, aiming for comprehensive protection, governance, and management. Vegetation, a key component of the riparian zone, supports and maintains river and lake health (RLH) by providing a range of ecological functions. While research on riparian zone vegetation is ongoing, these studies have not yet been synthesized from the perspective of integrating RLHA with the ecological functions of riparian zone vegetation. In this paper, based on the bibliometric method, the relevant literature studies on the topics of RLHA and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) remote sensing of vegetation were screened and counted, and the keywords were highlighted, respectively. Based on the connotation of RLH, this paper categorizes the indicators of RLHA into five aspects: water space: the critical area from the river and lake water body to the land in the riparian zone; water resources: the amount of water in the river and lake; water environment: the quality of water in the river and lake; water ecology:aquatic organisms in the river and lake; and water services:the function of ecosystem services in the river and lake. Based on these five aspects, this paper analyzes the key role of riparian zone vegetation in RLHA. In this paper, the key roles of riparian zone vegetation in RLHA are summarized as follows: stabilizing riverbanks, purifying water quality, regulating water temperature, providing food, replenishing groundwater, providing biological habitats, and beautifying human habitats. This paper analyzes the application of riparian zone vegetation ecological functions in RLH, summarizing the correlation between RLHA indicators and these ecological functions. Moreover, this paper analyzes the advantages of UAV remote sensing technology in the quantitative monitoring of riparian zone vegetation. This analysis is based on the high spatial and temporal resolution characteristics of UAV remote sensing technology and focuses on monitoring the ecological functions of riparian zone vegetation. On this basis, this paper summarizes the content and indicators of UAV quantitative remote sensing monitoring of riparian zone vegetation for RLHA. It covers several aspects: delineation of riparian zone extent, identification of vegetation types and distribution, the influence of vegetation on changes in the river floodplain, vegetation cover, plant diversity, and the impact of vegetation distribution on biological habitat. This paper summarizes the monitoring objects involved in monitoring riparian zones, riparian zone vegetation, river floodplains, and biological habitats, and summarizes the monitoring indicators for each category. Finally, this paper analyzes the challenges of UAV quantitative remote sensing for riparian zone vegetation at the current stage, including the limitations of UAV platforms and sensors, and the complexity of UAV remote sensing data information. This paper envisages the future application prospects of UAV quantitative remote sensing for riparian zone vegetation, including the development of hardware and software such as UAV platforms, sensors, and data technologies, as well as the development of integrated air-to-ground monitoring systems and the construction of UAV quantitative remote sensing platforms tailored to actual management applications.

Abstract Abnormal distribution of cellular cholesterol is associated with numerous diseases, including cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases. Regulated transport of cholesterol is critical for maintaining its proper distribution in the cell, yet the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we show that lipid transfer proteins, namely ORP9, OSBP, and GRAMD1s/Asters (GRAMD1a/GRAMD1b/GRAMD1c), control non-vesicular cholesterol transport at points of contact between the ER and the trans-Golgi network (TGN), thereby maintaining cellular cholesterol distribution. ORP9 localizes to the TGN via interaction between its tandem α-helices and ORP10/ORP11. ORP9 extracts PI4P from the TGN to prevent its overaccumulation and suppresses OSBP-mediated PI4P-driven cholesterol transport to the Golgi. By contrast, GRAMD1s transport excess cholesterol from the Golgi to the ER, thereby preventing its build-up. Cells lacking ORP9 exhibit accumulation of cholesterol at the Golgi, which is further enhanced by additional depletion of GRAMD1s with major accumulation in the plasma membrane. This is accompanied by chronic activation of the SREBP-2 signalling pathway. Our findings reveal the importance of regulated lipid transport at ER-Golgi contacts for maintaining cellular cholesterol distribution and homeostasis.

Abstract Most terrestrial plants establish a symbiosis with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), which provide them with lipids and sugars in exchange for phosphorus and nitrogen. Nutrient exchange must be dynamically controlled to maintain a mutually beneficial relationship between the two symbiotic partners. The WRI5a and its homologues play a conserved role in lipid supply to AMF. Here, we demonstrate that the AP2/ERF transcription factor MtERM1 binds directly to AW-box and AW-box-like cis-elements in the promoters of MtSTR2 and MtSTR, which are required for host lipid efflux and arbuscule development. The EAR domain-containing transcription factor MtERF12 is also directly activated by MtERM1/MtWRI5a to negatively regulate arbuscule development, and the TOPLESS co-repressor is further recruited by MtERF12 through EAR motif to oppose MtERM1/MtWRI5a function, thereby suppressing arbuscule development. We therefore reveal an ERM1/WRI5a–ERF12–TOPLESS negative feedback loop that enables plants to flexibly control nutrient exchange and ensure a mutually beneficial symbiosis.

This is an essay in the field of mining engineering. Deep-sea rare earth rich deposit, as a potential rare earth resource, are an important supplement to land rare earth resources and may become one of the first deep-sea minerals to be exploited. In this paper, four deep-sea REE rich deposit (REE rich deposits in the western Pacific Ocean, the southeast Pacific Ocean, the middle and east Pacific Ocean, and the Middle Indian Ocean basin-Wharton Basin.) are analyzed. This paper summarizes the basic resource characteristics of deep-sea rare earth rich deposit (such as large total reserves, large distribution differences, and the main occurrence mineral is biological apatite), and reviews two methods (acid leaching-extraction separation technology and separation-flotation method) used in the separation and extraction of deep-sea REE. The result shows that the acid leaching-extraction separation technology has the disadvantages of low recovery of REE and excessive acid consumption. The separation of sediment samples before flotation operation can achieve efficient enrichment of REE in deposit under the condition of low acid consumption, which is an important development direction to separate and extract REE resources from deep-sea REE rich deposit. Based on this, it is suggested to strengthen the research and development related to efficient classification of deep-sea REE rich deposit resources and in-situ mining and leaching technology in the future.

Advancements in guided bone regeneration (GBR) rely on the development of membranes that can effectively control drug delivery and facilitate bone repair. This study introduces a triple-layered multi-functional membrane (MFM), with each layer serving a specific release profile and function. These layers consist of Qk peptide, strontium (Sr), and vancomycin (Van) for angiogenesis, bone growth, and infection control. The MFM was meticulously designed to ensure sustained drug release kinetics and improved bone regeneration. The membrane morphology was analyzed via SEM, and its mechanical properties were measured via stress–strain curves. In vitro studies confirmed the controlled release of the agents for 21 days. These findings indicate significant enhancements needed for GBR, as supported by in vitro results. The synergy of the membrane's components contributes to a greater therapeutic impact. Furthermore, in vivo results further supported the exceptional performance of MFM in GBR. Within 5 days of implantation, notable improvements in revascularization were observed. After 1 month, micro-CT scans displayed accelerated bone regeneration, while the membrane effectively prevented bacterial growth within 3 days. The MFM/Van-Sr-Qk membrane shows excellent potential for advancing bone regeneration and GBR therapies, warranting further research and development in this promising field.

H i Ly α emission in the chromosphere and transition region is a key ingredient of the incident radiation to coronal neutral hydrogen for modeling corona Ly α emission. The Ly α emission distribution across the solar disk can be obtained from a Ly α Carrington map. Before the launch of the Advanced Space-based Solar Observatory (ASO-S), such a Ly α Carrington map was derived from the Carrington map at He ii 30.4 nm and sometimes is even assumed to be uniform. We construct the first Ly α Carrington map based on full-disk Ly α images acquired by the Solar Disk Imager (SDI) on board ASO-S and present two versions: the standard one is for a CR, and the other is daily updated. For modeling Ly α intensities during eruptions, the Carrington map with incorporated flare region is produced. Furthermore, we evaluate the difference between the Ly α Carrington map derived with SDI observations and that synthesized from the 30.4 nm data based on an empirical relationship between Ly α and He ii 30.4 nm intensities, particularly extended to flare intensities that have not been investigated before. The average difference of 38% proves the importance of the Ly α Carrington map built from observations directly. However, the synthetic Ly α Carrington map can be used as an approximation before SDI data are available. The comparison between the SDI Ly α Carrington map and the corresponding magnetic field synoptic map indicates that active regions in general are brighter in Ly α , while the sunspot umbras with strong magnetic field strength are usually weaker in Ly α .
