Camptochaete monolina sp. nov. is described from three collections in the Australian Wet Tropics bioregion. Camptochaete subporotrichoides (Broth. & Geh.) Broth. (Bryophyta: Lembophyllaceae), previously known from Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and Fiji, is reported as new to Australia from several collections in the same bioregion.

Recent collections of Heterocladium flaccidum (Schimp.) A.J.E.Sm. in Tunisia and in Georgia (Caucasus) represent the first records of this species both in Africa and Asia. Molecular phylogenetic analysis of samples from France, Great Britain, Tunisia and Georgia placed the species in a maximally supported clade sister to or nested in other species of Heterocladium s.str., i.e., excluding recently segregated Heterocladiella species. This genetic distinction of H. flaccidum from H. heteropterum (Brid.) Schimp., found in separate analyses of ITS and trnS-F markers, strongly supports the specific recognition of H. flaccidum. Representative African and Asian specimens are illustrated and described. Ecological and chorological details are provided.

Author citation of four species names in Lembophyllum Lindb. is rectified. Their authorship was incorrectly ascribed to S.O. Lindberg because of the misinterpretation of citations using “ex” and “in”. The following names should correctly be ascribed to E.G. Paris who published them in 1896 in Index bryologicus: Lembophyllum clandestinum (Hook.f. et Wilson) Lindb. ex Paris, L. cochlearifolium (Schwagr.) Lindb. ex Paris, L. divulsum (Hook.f. et Wilson) Lindb. ex Paris and L. vagum (Hornsch. ex Mull.Hal.) Lindb. ex Paris. Lembophyllum sect. Rigodiella (E.B.Bartram) Ochyra et Bednarek-Ochyra, comb. nov. is the correct name for the superfluous sectional name L. sect. Looseria (Ther.) Tangney.

Mawenzhangia thamnobryoides gen. et sp. nov. (Bryophyta, Lembophyllaceae) is described based on collections from Yunnan, China. It is known from the Niru River watershed and grows on boulders just above the high water zone but can also be seasonally inundated. According to ITS sequences it is closely related to Nogopterium gracile (Pterogonium g.), but can be distinguished by the loosely patent and elliptic vs. imbricate and ovate leaves; much longer, single costa; thinner-walled and less strongly prorate laminal cells; and much smaller group of alar cells. Mawenzhangia thamnobryoides is illustrated in line drawings and an identification key to Chinese genera of the Lembophyllaceae is provided.

Recent field work and examination of specimens at cas, mich, mo, ny, sfsu, ubc and uc lead us to conclude that Bestia longipes, contrary to some earlier literature reports, is endemic to coastal regions of north-central to southern California. Based on analyses of DNA nucleotide sequence data we recognize Bestia in the Lembophyllaceae.

A review of the Australasian genus Lembophyllum is presented. The two species recognized, L. clandestinum and L. divulsum, are illustrated and a key is provided, along with an evaluation of the characters that separate them and notes on their ecology and distribution. L. divulsum differs from L. clandestinum in being a smaller plant, with narrower branches. L. divulsum has leaves that are as wide as long (they are wider than long in L. clandestinum), and the cells at the basal and lateral margins are quadrate in L. divulsum and linear-rhombic in L. clandestinum.

An overview of the genus Fallaciella is provided, including reasons for its placement in the Lembophyllaceae. A new species, Fallaciella robusta sp. nov., is described from South Island, New Zealand. The differences between the two known species of Fallaciella are outlined and the main points summarized in a key. Illustrations are provided for both species, and a distribution map is provided for F. robusta.
