Industrial x-ray computed tomography is increasingly used in the field of dimensional metrology. However, the measurement accuracy is influenced by many factors for which comprehensive expert’s knowledge is still not available. This work presents an approach to establish a user support system that allows a user to achieve highly accurate measurements. The approach generates knowledge from experimental investigations deploying specifically designed test parts and uses the knowledge in a case-based reasoning user support system. Validation experiments showed that the user support system was successful at providing a user with instructions that led to highly accurate measurements of three previously unknown industrial workpieces.

Trotz der Vielzahl von verschiedensten Anwendungen und Anforderungen an die Batteriezellen werden für viele Produkte standardisierte Zellen eingesetzt. Dabei werden individuelle Anforderungen, insbesondere an den Bauraum, meist nicht beachtet. Unsere Hypothese ist, dass künftige Produkte, vor allem in den Bereichen Unterhaltungselektronik, Power Tools und Elektrofahrzeuge, Batteriezellen benötigen, deren Anforderungen bezüglich elektrischer Eigenschaften und Format angepasst sind. Dies führt zu einer wachsenden Vielfalt an Batteriezellen in Bezug auf Abmessungen, Format und Materialien. Dieser Trend ist bereits bei Batteriezellen für die Unterhaltungselektronik wie Smartwatches und Smartphones erkennbar. Um den unterschiedlichen Kundenanforderungen gerecht zu werden, benötigen die Zellhersteller geeignete flexible Produktionsmaschinen, um hohe Rüstkosten zu vermeiden. Als Lösung wird am KIT eine flexible, automatisierte Produktionsanlage für die Li-Ionen-Pouch-Zellen-Fertigung entwickelt.**

The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has changed our lives in unprecedented ways. In the face of the projected catastrophic consequences, many countries have enacted social distancing measures in an attempt to limit the spread of the virus. Under these conditions, the Web has become an indispensable medium for information acquisition, communication, and entertainment. At the same time, unfortunately, the Web is being exploited for the dissemination of potentially harmful and disturbing content, such as the spread of conspiracy theories and hateful speech towards specific ethnic groups, in particular towards Chinese people since COVID-19 is believed to have originated from China. In this paper, we make a first attempt to study the emergence of Sinophobic behavior on the Web during the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. We collect two large-scale datasets from Twitter and 4chan's Politically Incorrect board (/pol/) over a time period of approximately five months and analyze them to investigate whether there is a rise or important differences with regard to the dissemination of Sinophobic content. We find that COVID-19 indeed drives the rise of Sinophobia on the Web and that the dissemination of Sinophobic content is a cross-platform phenomenon: it exists on fringe Web communities like \dspol, and to a lesser extent on mainstream ones like Twitter. Also, using word embeddings over time, we characterize the evolution and emergence of new Sinophobic slurs on both Twitter and /pol/. Finally, we find interesting differences in the context in which words related to Chinese people are used on the Web before and after the COVID-19 outbreak: on Twitter we observe a shift towards blaming China for the situation, while on /pol/ we find a shift towards using more (and new) Sinophobic slurs., Comment: This is the full version of the paper, with same title, appearing in the Proceedings of the 30th The Web Conference (WWW 2021). Structured light scanners for three-dimensional surface acquisition (SL scanners) are increasingly used for dimensional metrology. The optical configuration of SL scanners (focal length and baseline distance) influences the triangulation process, on which the scanners’ measurement principle relies. So far, only a limited number of studies has investigated the optical configuration’s influence on the accuracy of a SL scanner. To close this gap, this work presents a design of experiment in which the optical configuration of a SL scanner is systematically varied and its influence on the accuracy evaluated. Further, tactile reference measurements allow to separate random from systematical errors, while a special test specimen is used in two different configurations to ensure general applicability of the findings. Thus, this work provides support when designing a SL scanner by highlighting which optical configuration maximizes accuracy.

X-Ray Computed Tomography (CT) has been successfully introduced into industrial applications in the last few years. Recent industrial needs aim at increasing the accessibility of CT technology to more users than only measurement experts. Suitable concepts for user support have been developed in the past. However, these user support concepts do not cover the entire measurement process and only a small variety of measurement tasks. To overcome these shortcomings and to support the user in an optimal manner, the existing concepts need to be integrated together with knowledge deduced from different measurements into a single software tool. In this paper, different types of knowledge based systems are compared and assessed in their ability to integrate knowledge of the measurement process, the form and material of the workpiece as well as quality parameters of the CT projections. The assessment is used to derive the structure of a suitable knowledge based system that addresses industrial needs regarding flexibility and usability. The results may be used in the future to develop a software tool for user support, which can be used in an industrial environment, enabling untrained users to utilize CT-based systems with a low measurement uncertainty.
