Search

We report on the results of a search for radio pulsars in five supernova remnants (SNRs) with FAST. The observations were made using the 19-beam receiver in the Snapshot mode. The integration time for each pointing is 10 min. We discovered a new pulsar PSR J1845$-$0306 which has a spin period of 983.6 ms and a dispersion measure of 444.6$\pm$2.0 cm$^{-3}$ pc in observations of SNR G29.6+0.1. To judge the association between the pulsar and the SNR, further verification is needed. We also re-detected some known pulsars in the data from SNRs G29.6+0.1 and G29.7$-$0.3. The question of whether complex numbers play a fundamental role in quantum theory has been debated since the inception of quantum mechanics. Recently, a feasible proposal to differentiate between real and complex quantum theories based on the technique of testing Bell nonlocalities has emerged [Nature 600, 625-629 (2021)]. Based on this method, the real quantum theory has been falsified experimentally in both photonic and superconducting quantum systems [Phys. Rev. Lett. 128, 040402 (2022), Phys. Rev. Lett. 128, 040403 (2022)]. The quantum networks with multiple independent sources which are not causally connected have gained significant interest as they offer new perspective on studying the nonlocalities. The independence of these sources imposes additional constraints on observable covariances and leads to new bounds for classical and quantum correlations. In this study, we examine the discrimination between the real and complex quantum theories with an entanglement swapping scenario under a stronger assumption that the two sources are causally independent, which wasn't made in previous works. Using a revised Navascu\'es-Pironio-Ac\'in method and Bayesian optimization, we find a proposal with optimal coefficients of the correlation function which could give a larger discrimination between the real and quantum theories comparing with the existing proposals. This work opens up avenues for further exploration of the discrimination between real and complex quantum theories within intricate quantum networks featuring causally independent parties.

As the most energetic explosions in the Universe, gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are commonly believed to be generated by relativistic jets. Recent observational evidence suggests that the jets producing GRBs are likely to have a structured nature. Some studies have suggested that non-axisymmetric structured jets may be formed through internal non-uniform magnetic dissipation processes or the precession of the central engine. In this study, we analyze the potential characteristics of GRB afterglows within the framework of non-axisymmetric structured jets. We simplify the profile of the asymmetric jet as a step function of the azimuth angle, dividing the entire jet into individual elements. By considering specific cases, we demonstrate that the velocity, energy, and line-of-sight direction of each jet element can greatly affect the behaviour of the overall light curve. The radiative contributions from multiple elements may lead to the appearance of multiple distinct peaks or plateaus in the light curve. Furthermore, fluctuations in the rising and declining segments of each peak can be observed. In this study we estimate the stellar ages of LAMOST DR8 Red Giant Branch (RGB) stars based on the Gradient Boosting Decision Tree algorithm (GBDT). We used 2,643 RGB stars extracted from the APOKASC-2 astero-seismological catalog as training data-set. After selecting the parameterses ([$\alpha$/Fe], [C/Fe], T$_{eff}$, [N/Fe], [C/H], log g) highly correlated with age using GBDT, we apply the same GBDT method to the new catalog of more than 590,000 stars classified as RGB stars. The test data-set shows that the median relative error is around 11.6$\%$ for the method. We also compare the predicted ages of RGB stars with other studies (e.g., based on APOGEE), and find systematic differences. The final uncertainty is about 15 to 30$\%$ compared to open clusters' ages. Then we present the spatial distribution of the RGB sample having an age determination, which could recreate the expected result, and discuss systematic biases. A new method to work out the Hermitian correspondence of a PT-symmetric quantum mechanical Hamiltonian is proposed. In contrast to the conventional method, the new method ends with a local Hamiltonian of the form p^2/2+m^2x^2/2+v(x) without any higher-derivative terms. This method is demonstrated in the perturbative regime. Possible extensions to multi-variable quantum mechanics and quantum field theories are discussed., Comment: 5 pages

Perturbative PT-symmetric quantum field theories with anti-Hermitian and P-odd interaction terms are studied in path integral formalism and the i phi^3 model is calculated in detail. The nonlocal field transformation induced by the C operator and corresponding transformations to Hermitian theories are given systematically, which are manifestly 4-dimensional invariant. It is found that the i phi^3 model can be transformed into infinitely many physically inequivalent Hermitian theories with different S matrices under above nonlocal transformations. Similar problem caused by nonlocal tranformations in Hermitian quantum field theories is also discussed. 0-dimensional models are studied numerically to verify the validity of those transformations. High-redshift gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) provide a powerful tool to probe the early universe, but still for relatively few do we have good observations of the afterglow. We here report the optical and near-infrared observations of the afterglow of a relatively high-redshift event, GRB\,220101A, triggered on New Year's Day of 2022. With the optical spectra obtained at XL2.16/BFOSC and NOT/ALFOSC, we determine the redshift of the burst at $z= 4.615$. Based on our optical and near-infrared data, combined with the X-ray data, we perform multiband fit with the python package \emph{afterglowpy}. A jet-break at $\sim$ 0.7 day post-burst is found to constrain the opening angle of the jet as $\sim$ 3.4 degree. We also determine circumburst density of $n_0 = 0.15\ {\rm cm}^{-3}$ as well as kinetic energy $E_{\rm K, iso} = 3.52\times 10^{54}$ erg. The optical afterglow is among the most luminous ever detected. We also find a ``mirror'' feature in the lightcurve during the prompt phase of the burst from 80 s to 120 s. Up to November 2022, 267 pulsars have been discovered in 36 globular clusters (GCs). In this paper, we present our studies on the distribution of GC pulsar parameters and the detection efficiency. The power law relation between the average of dispersion measure ($\overline{\rm DM}$) and dispersion measure difference ($\Delta {\rm DM}$) of known pulsars in GCs is $\lg\Delta {\rm DM} \propto 1.52 \lg \overline{\rm DM}$. The sensitivity could be the key to find more pulsars. As a result, several years after the construction of a radio telescope, the GC pulsar number will be increased accordingly. In this work we establish rigorously a measurement uncertainty relation (MUR) for three unbiased qubit observables, which was previously shown to hold true under some presumptions. The triplet MUR states that the uncertainty, which is quantified by the total statistic distance between the target observables and the jointly implemented observables, is lower bounded by an incompatibility measure that reflects the joint measurement conditions. We derive a necessary and sufficient condition for the triplet MUR to be saturated and the corresponding optimal measurement. To facilitate experimental tests of MURs we propose a straightforward implementation of the optimal joint measurements. The exact values of incompatibility measure are analytically calculated for some symmetric triplets when the corresponding triplet MURs are not saturated. We anticipate that our work may enrich the understanding of quantum incompatibility in terms of MURs and inspire further applications in quantum information science. Heisenberg's measurement uncertainty relations (MUR) of two quantum observables are essential for contemporary researches in quantum foundations and quantum information science. Going beyond, here we report the first experimental test of MURs for three quantum observables. Following the proposal of Bush, Lahti, and Werner [Phys. Rev. A 89, 012129 (2014)], we first establish rigorously MURs for triplets of unbiased qubit observables as combined approximation errors lower-bounded by an incompatibility measure. We then develop a convex programming protocol to numerically find the exact value of the incompatibility measure and the corresponding optimal measurements. Furthermore, we propose a novel implementation of optimal joint measurements and experimentally test our MURs using a single-photon qubit. Lastly, we discuss to analytically calculate the exact value of incompatibility measure for some symmetric triplets. We anticipate that this work may stimulate broad interests associated with the Heisenberg's uncertainty relation of multiple observables, enriching our understanding of quantum mechanics and inspiring innovative applications in quantum information science.

The unpredictable process of state collapse caused by quantum measurements makes the generation of quantum randomness possible. In this paper, we explore the quantitive connection between the randomness generation and the state collapse and provide a randomness verification protocol under the assumptions: (I) independence between the source and the measurement devices and (II) the L\"{u}ders' rule for collapsing state. Without involving heavy mathematical machinery, the amount of genereted quantum randomness can be directly estimated with the disturbance effect originating from the state collapse. In the protocol, we can employ general measurements that are not fully trusted. Equipped with trusted projection measurements, we can further optimize the randomness generation performance. Our protocol also shows a high efficiency and yields a higher randomness generation rate than the one based on uncertainty relation. We expect our results to provide new insights for understanding and generating quantum randomness

Featuring excellent coherence and operated parallelly, ultracold atoms in optical lattices form a competitive candidate for quantum computation. For this, a massive number of parallel entangled atom pairs have been realized in superlattices. However, the more formidable challenge is to scale-up and detect multipartite entanglement due to the lack of manipulations over local atomic spins in retro-reflected bichromatic superlattices. Here we developed a new architecture based on a cross-angle spin-dependent superlattice for implementing layers of quantum gates over moderately-separated atoms incorporated with a quantum gas microscope for single-atom manipulation. We created and verified functional building blocks for scalable multipartite entanglement by connecting Bell pairs to one-dimensional 10-atom chains and two-dimensional plaquettes of $2\times4$ atoms. This offers a new platform towards scalable quantum computation and simulation.

To achieve scalable quantum information processing, great efforts have been devoted to the creation of large-scale entangled states in various physical systems. Ultracold atom in optical lattice is considered as one of the promising platforms due to its feasible initialization and parallel manipulation. In this work, we propose an efficient scheme to generate and characterize global entanglement in the optical lattice. With only two-layer quantum circuits, the generation utilizes two-qubit entangling gates based on the superexchange interaction in double wells. The parallelism of these operations enables the generation to be fast and scalable. To verify the entanglement of this non-stabilizer state, we mainly design three complementary detection protocols which are less resource-consuming compared to the full tomography. In particular, one just needs two homogenous local measurement settings to identify the entanglement property. We present a catalog of 948,216 stars with mass label and a catalog of 163,105 red clump (RC) stars with mass and age labels simultaneously. The training dataset is cross matched from the LAMOST (The Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope) DR5 and high resolution asteroseismology data, mass and age are predicted by random forest method or convex hull algorithm. The stellar parameters with high correlation with mass and age are extracted and the test dataset shows that the median relative error of the prediction model for the mass of large sample is 3\% and meanwhile, the mass and age of red clump stars are 4\% and 7\%. We also compare the predicted age of red clump stars with the recent works and find that the final uncertainty of the RC sample could reach 18\% for age and 9\% for mass, in the meantime, final precision of the mass for large sample with different type of stars could reach 13\% without considering systematics, all these are implying that this method could be widely used in the future. Moreover, we explore the performance of different machine learning methods for our sample, including bayesian linear regression (BYS), gradient boosting decision Tree (GBDT), multilayer perceptron (MLP), multiple linear regression (MLR), random forest (RF) and support vector regression (SVR). Finally we find that the performance of nonlinear model is generally better than that of linear model, and the GBDT and RF methods are relatively better., Comment: 19 pages, 23 figures, Accepted for publication in the ApJS

The milestone discovery of GW 170817-GRB 170817A-AT 2017gfo has shown that gravitational wave (GW) could be produced during the merger of neutron star-neutron star/black hole and that in electromagnetic (EM) wave a gamma-ray burst (GRB) and a kilonova (KN) are generated in sequence after the merger. Observationally, however, EM property before the merger phase is still unclear. Here we report a peculiar precursor in a KN-associated long-duration GRB 211211A, providing evidence of the EM before the merger. This precursor lasts $\sim$ 0.2 s, and the waiting time between the precursor and the main burst is $\sim$ 1 s, comparable to that between GW 170817 and GRB 170817A. The spectrum of the precursor could be well fit with a non-thermal cutoff power-law model instead of a blackbody. Especially, a $\sim$22 Hz Quasi-Periodic Oscillation candidate ($\sim 3\sigma$) is detected in the precursor. These temporal and spectral properties indicate that this precursor is probably produced by a catastrophic flare accompanying with magnetoelastic or crustal oscillations of a magnetar in binary compact merger. The strong magnetic field of the magnetar can also account for the prolonged duration of GRB 211211A. However, it poses a challenge to reconcile the rather short lifetime of a magnetar with the rather long spiraling time of a binary neutron star system only by the GW radiation before merger., Comment: Published by ApJ. 13 pages, 11 figures

The all-photonic quantum repeater (APQR) is a promising repeater scheme to realize long-distance quantum communication. For a practical APQR, an indispensable requirement is the robustness of the repeater graph state (RGS) against photon loss. We propose a new loss-tolerant scheme by applying the generalized Shor code to RGS, which can be experimentally demonstrated with current technology. Experimentally, we first prepare and verify the nine-qubit Shor code. Then, by applying the generalized Shor code to APQR and preparing a simplified encoded RGS with the structure of $1\times2$ based on the Shor code state, the effectiveness of our loss-tolerant scheme and the loss tolerance of the encoded RGS are respectively verified. Taking the quantum electrodynamics (QED) effect into account, we study the black hole phase transition and Ruppeiner geometry for the Euler-Heisenberg anti-de Sitter black hole in the extended phase space. For negative and small positive QED parameter, we observe a small/large black hole phase transition and reentrant phase transition, respectively. While a large positive value of the QED parameter ruins the phase transition. The phase diagrams for each case are explicitly exhibited. Then we construct the Ruppeiner geometry in the thermodynamic parameter space. Different features of the corresponding scalar curvature are shown for both the small/large black hole phase transition and reentrant phase transition cases. Of particular interest is that an additional region of positive scalar curvature indicating dominated repulsive interaction among black hole microstructure is present for the black hole with a small positive QED parameter. Furthermore, the universal critical phenomena are also observed for the scalar curvature of the Ruppeiner geometry. These results indicate that the QED parameter has a crucial influence on the black hole phase transition and microstructure., Comment: 19 pages, 14 figures

It has recently been discovered that the nonlocality of an entangled qubit pair can be recycled for several Bell experiments. Here, we go beyond standard Bell scenarios and investigate the recycling of nonlocal resources in a quantum network. We realise a photonic quantum 3-branch star network in which three sources of entangled pairs independently connect three outer parties with a central node. After measuring, each outer party respectively relays their system to an independent secondary measuring party. We experimentally demonstrate that the outer parties can perform unsharp measurements that are strong enough to violate a network Bell inequality with the central party, but weak enough to maintain sufficient entanglement in the network to allow the three secondary parties to do the same. Moreover, the violations are strong enough to exclude any model based on standard projective measurements on the EPR pairs emitted in the network. Our experiment brings together the research program of recycling quantum resources with that of Bell nonlocality in networks.

While Bell nonlocality of a bipartite system is counter-intuitive, multipartite nonlocality in our many-body world turns out to be even more so. Recent theoretical study reveals in a theory-agnostic manner that genuine multipartite nonlocal correlations cannot be explained by any causal theory involving fewer-partite nonclassical resources and global shared randomness. Here we provide a Bell-type inequality as a test for genuine multipartite nonlocality in network by exploiting a matrix representation of the causal structure of a multipartite system. We further present experimental demonstrations that both four-photon GHZ state and generalized four-photon GHZ state significantly violate the inequality, i.e., the observed four-partite correlations resist explanations involving three-way nonlocal resources subject to local operations and common shared randomenss, hence confirming that nature is boundless multipartite nonlocal.

Quasitopological electromagnetism has an important influence on the strong gravity of dyonic black hole. For example three photon spheres with one being stable are found and we wish to test them with the observed black hole shadow. We are primarily concerned with the thermodynamics and phase transition for a dyonic anti-de Sitter (AdS) black hole when the quasitopological electromagnetism is included.Unlike in a black hole solution without quasitopological electromagnetism, we observe a triple point phase structure by varying the coupling parameters. Of particular interest, for certain parameter values, two separate coexistence curves are present, which is an additional novel phase structure that is absent in a black hole solution without quasitopological electromagnetism. The critical exponents share the same values as mean field theory. These results uncover the intriguing properties of dyonic AdS black holes with quasitopological electromagnetism from a thermodynamic point of view., Comment: 18 pages, 11 figures and 2 tables. Quantum theory is commonly formulated in complex Hilbert spaces. However, the question of whether complex numbers need to be given a fundamental role in the theory has been debated since its pioneering days. Recently it has been shown that tests in the spirit of a Bell inequality can reveal quantum predictions in entanglement swapping scenarios that cannot be modelled by the natural real-number analog of standard quantum theory. Here, we tailor such tests for implementation in state-of-the-art photonic systems. We experimentally demonstrate quantum correlations in a network of three parties and two independent EPR sources that violate the constraints of real quantum theory by over $4.5$ standard deviations, hence disproving real quantum theory as a universal physical theory., Comment: 9 pages, 6 figures

We have investigated the feasibilities and accuracies of the identifications of RR Lyrae stars and quasars from the simulated data of the Multi-channel Photometric Survey Telescope (Mephisto) W Survey. Based on the variable sources light curve libraries from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) Stripe 82 data and the observation history simulation from the Mephisto-W Survey Scheduler, we have simulated the $uvgriz$ multi-band light curves of RR Lyrae stars, quasars and other variable sources for the first year observation of Mephisto-W Survey. We have applied the ensemble machine learning algorithm Random Forest Classifier (RFC) to identify RR Lyrae stars and quasars, respectively. We build training and test samples and extract ~ 150 features from the simulated light curves and train two RFCs respectively for the RR Lyrae star and quasar classification. We find that, our RFCs are able to select the RR Lyrae stars and quasars with remarkably high precision and completeness, with $purity$ = 95.4 per cent and $completeness$ = 96.9 per cent for the RR Lyrae RFC and $purity$ = 91.4 per cent and $completeness$ = 90.2 per cent for the quasar RFC. This paper introduces an approach for multi-human 3D pose estimation and tracking based on calibrated multi-view. The main challenge lies in finding the cross-view and temporal correspondences correctly even when several human pose estimations are noisy. Compare to previous solutions that construct 3D poses from multiple views, our approach takes advantage of temporal consistency to match the 2D poses estimated with previously constructed 3D skeletons in every view. Therefore cross-view and temporal associations are accomplished simultaneously. Since the performance suffers from mistaken association and noisy predictions, we design two strategies for aiming better correspondences and 3D reconstruction. Specifically, we propose a part-aware measurement for 2D-3D association and a filter that can cope with 2D outliers during reconstruction. Our approach is efficient and effective comparing to state-of-the-art methods; it achieves competitive results on two benchmarks: 96.8% on Campus and 97.4% on Shelf.
