The ability to isolate a quantum system from its environment is of fundamental interest and importance in optical quantum science and technology. Here we propose an experimentally feasible scheme for beating environment-induced dissipation in an open two-level system coupled to a parametrically driven cavity. The mechanism relies on a novel cooperation between light-matter coupling enhancement and frequent measurements. We demonstrate that, in the presence of the cooperation, the system dynamics can be completely dominated by the effective system-cavity interaction and the dissipative effects from the system-environment coupling can be surprisingly ignored. This work provides a generic method of dissipation suppression in a variety of quantum mechanical platforms, including natural atoms and superconducting circuits.

We theoretically study diverse exceptional points (EPs) in an experimentally feasible magno-optomechanics consisting of an optomechanical subsystem coupled to a magnomechanical subsystem via physically direct contact. By adiabatically eliminating both the cavity and the Kittel mode, dissipative and parity-time symmetric exceptional points can be observed. When only the cavity mode is eliminated, a second (third) -order pseudo-Hermitian EP emerges for nondegenerate (degenerate) mechanical modes. The distinct dynamical behavior of two mechanical modes around these EPs are further studied. Superradiant phase transitions play a fundamental role in understanding the mechanism of collective light-matter interaction at the quantum level. Here we investigate multiple superradiant phases and phase transitions with different symmetry-breaking patterns in a two-mode V-type Dicke model. Interestingly, we show that there exists a quadruple point where one normal phase, one global symmetry-breaking superradiant phase and two local symmetry-breaking superradiant phases meet. Such a global phase results from the phase competition between two local superradiant phases and can not occur in the standard $\Lambda$- and $\Xi$-type three-level configurations in quantum optics. Moreover, we exhibit a sequential first-order quantum phase transition from one local to the global again to the other local superradiant phase. Our study opens up a perspective of exploring multi-level quantum critical phenomena with global symmetry breaking.

Exploring intermixing and interplay between different frequency-mixing processes has always been one of the interesting subjects at the interface of nonlinear optics with quantum optics. Here we investigate coherent competition and control between three-wave mixing (TWM) and four-wave mixing (FWM) in a cyclic three-level superconducting quantum system. In the weak control-field regime, strong competition leads to an alternating oscillation between TWM and FWM signals and this oscillation is a signature of strong energy exchange between these two nonlinear processes. In particular, such oscillation is absent from conventional multi-wave mixing in atomic systems. Surprisingly, synchronous TWM and FWM processes are demonstrated in the strong control-field regime and, at the same time, their efficiencies can be as high as 40% and 45%, respectively. Our study shows that these competitive behaviors between TWM and FWM can be manipulated by tuning the control-field intensity.

Nonreciprocal devices, allowing to manipulate one-way signals, are crucial to quantum information processing and quantum network. Here we propose a nonlinear cavity-magnon system, consisting of a microwave cavity coupled to one or two yttrium-iron-garnet (YIG) spheres supporting magnons with Kerr nonlinearity, to investigate nonreciprocal unconventional photon blockade. The nonreciprocity originates from the direction-dependent Kerr effect, distinctly different from previous proposals with spinning cavities and dissipative couplings. For a single sphere case, nonreciprocal unconventional photon blockade can be realized by manipulating the nonreciprocal destructive interference between two active paths, via vary the Kerr coefficient from positive to negative, or vice versa. By optimizing the system parameters, the perfect and well-tuned nonreciprocal unconventional photon blockade can be predicted. For the case of two spheres with opposite Kerr effects, only reciprocal unconventional photon blockade can be observed when two cavity-magnon coupling strengths Kerr strengths are symmetric. However, when coupling strengths or Kerr strengths become asymmetric, nonreciprocal unconventional photon blockade appears. This implies that two-sphere nonlinear cavity-magnon systems can be used to switch the transition between reciprocal and nonreciprocal unconventional photon blockades. Strong long-distance spin-spin coupling is desperately demanded for solid-state quantum information processing, but it is still challenged. Here, we propose a hybrid quantum system, consisting of a coplanar waveguide (CPW) resonator weakly coupled to a single nitrogen-vacancy spin in diamond and a yttrium-iron-garnet (YIG) nanosphere holding Kerr magnons, to realize strong long-distance spin-spin coupling. With a strong driving field on magnons, the Kerr effect can squeeze magnons, and thus the coupling between the CPW resonator and the squeezed magnons is {\it exponentially enhanced}, which produces two cavity-magnon polaritons, i.e., the high-frequency polariton (HP) and low-frequency polariton (LP). When the enhanced cavity-magnon coupling approaches the critical value, the spin is fully decoupled from the HP, while the coupling between the spin and the LP is significantly improved. In the dispersive regime, a strong spin-spin coupling is achieved with accessible parameters. The coupling distance can be up to centimeter scale, limited by the cavity size. Higher-order exceptional points (EPs) in non-Hermitian systems have attracted great interest due to their advantages in sensitive enhancement and distinct topological features. However, realization of such EPs is still challenged because more fine-tuning parameters is generically required in quantum systems, compared to the second-order EP (EP2). Here, we propose a non-Hermitian three-mode optomechanical system in the blue-sideband regime for predicting the third-order EP (EP3). By deriving the pseudo-Hermitian condition for the proposed system, one cavity with loss and the other one with gain must be required. Then we show EP3 or EP2 can be observed when the mechanical resonator (MR) is neutral, loss or gain. For the neutral MR, we find both two degenerate or two non-degenerate EP3s can be predicted by tuning system parameters in the parameter space, while four non-degenerate EP2s can be observed when the system parameters derivate from EP3s, which is distinguished from the previous study in the red-detuned optomechanical system. For the gain (loss) MR, we find only two degenerate EP3s or EP2s can be predicted by tuning enhanced coupling strength. Our proposal provides a potential way to predict higher-order EPs or multiple EP2s and study multimode quantum squeezing around EPs using the blue-detuned non-Hermitian optomechanical systems., Comment: 13 pages, 8 figures

Engineering strong single-photon optomechanical couplings is crucial for optomechanical systems. Here, we propose a hybrid quantum system consisting of a nanobeam (phonons) coupled to a spin ensemble and a cavity (photons) to overcome it. Utilizing the critical property of the lower-branch polariton (LBP) formed by the ensemble-phonon interaction, the LBP-cavity coupling can be greatly enhanced by three orders magnitude of the original one, while the upper-branch polariton (UBP)-cavity coupling is fully suppressed. Our proposal breaks through the condition of the coupling strength less than the critical value in previous schemes using two harmonic oscillators. Also, strong Kerr effect can be induced in our proposal. We present a new type of phase- and frequency-sensitive amplification and attenuation in a cyclically driven three-level superconducting Josephson system. Different from the previous linear theory of pure phase-sensitive amplification, a new physical mechanism$-$combined action of nonlinear wave mixing and wave interference$-$is developed and leads to not only amplification but also attenuation. This is referred to as interference nonlinear optics. Our results show the sudden output signal transition from large gain to deep suppression by tuning the relative phase and in this case the system can act as a phase-controlled amplitude modulator. We also show the continuous change from output enhancement to attenuation by adjusting the driving-field frequency and in this situation the system behaves as a frequency-controlled amplitude modulator. Our study opens up a new perspective for its widespread applications in quantum information science.
