Patients can become educator-influencers in promoting the public’s understanding of health and illness; however, the underlying motivations driving their engagement in this role remain unclear. Drawing from the Self-Determination Theory, this study explores the motivations of patients-turned-influencers in sharing eating disorders (ED) experiences and information on Chinese social media. Through semi-structured interviews with 33 patient influencers, this study examines the motivations associated with three psychological needs: autonomy, competence, and relatedness. In terms of autonomy, influencers shared their ED experiences as self-therapy, expression, and documentation of personal growth. Regarding competence, influencers felt that their medical training or personal experiences made them more knowledgeable about ED, and their communication skills and high self-esteem gave them more confidence and courage to share their ED experiences. Finally, in terms of relatedness, altruism, community building, and peer influence are the driving forces behind their sharing behaviors. With the rise of ED cases in China, misunderstandings about the condition remain prevalent. As the first study of ED social media influencers in a Chinese context, this research highlights the unique cultural and social factors influencing the motivations behind sharing ED-related experiences on social media. Large language models (LLMs) such as GPT-3 and their derivative products such as ChatGPT have garnered significant attention for their remarkable ability to process texts and conduct human-like conversations. Guided by the Diffusion of Innovation theory, this study examines the early discussions about LLMs on Twitter, specifically about ChatGPT and GPT-3, during the first three months following the release of ChatGPT. By utilizing topic structural modeling and sentiment analysis on a sample of 42,273 #ChatGPT tweets and 17,639 #GPT3 tweets, we explore how laypeople and technical professionals differ in their attitudes in the early stage of the adoption of LLMs. Our findings suggest that the discussion surrounding ChatGPT and GPT-3 primarily revolves around relative advantage and compatibility, with the majority of #ChatGPT conversations demonstrating negative sentiment and #GPT3 discussions containing more positive topics. The Twitter discussion using #ChatGPT is highly business-oriented, while the discussion of #GPT3 covers a broader range of topics in terms of the characteristics, applications, and potential ethical concerns of LLMs. This study offers implications for government agencies and policymakers, suggesting that further research is needed to fully understand the potential applications and risks of LLMs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

News coverage of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine grew rapidly in China in 2016 when the vaccine was approved. Drawing upon framing theory, the present study analyzed the content of 491 Chinese newspaper reports on the HPV vaccine published between June 2000 and December 2018 to investigate what and how information and valence about the vaccine was relayed to the public. The results indicated that, while the Chinese media failed to provide comprehensive and accurate information about HPV and the HPV vaccine, they showed a positive evaluation of the HPV vaccine demand and market. In addition, there was a decline in negative coverage after the vaccine was approved. This study extended the literature on HPV vaccine coverage by combining issue-specific framing and valence framing, considering the Chinese-specific vaccine market for presentation and the value of such products, which is rare in previous studies.
