4. Using Argument-based Features to Predict and Analyse Review Helpfulness

Abstract

We study the helpful product reviews identification problem in this paper. We observe that the evidence-conclusion discourse relations, also known as arguments, often appear in product reviews, and we hypothesise that some argument-based features, e.g. the percentage of argumentative sentences, the evidences-conclusions ratios, are good indicators of helpful reviews. To validate this hypothesis, we manually annotate arguments in 110 hotel reviews, and investigate the effectiveness of several combinations of argument-based features. Experiments suggest that, when being used together with the argument-based features, the state-of-the-art baseline features can enjoy a performance boost (in terms of F1) of 11.01\% in average., Comment: 6 pages, EMNLP2017

Abstract

Argument Component Boundary Detection (ACBD) is an important sub-task in argumentation mining; it aims at identifying the word sequences that constitute argument components, and is usually considered as the first sub-task in the argumentation mining pipeline. Existing ACBD methods heavily depend on task-specific knowledge, and require considerable human efforts on feature-engineering. To tackle these problems, in this work, we formulate ACBD as a sequence labeling problem and propose a variety of Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) based methods, which do not use domain specific or handcrafted features beyond the relative position of the sentence in the document. In particular, we propose a novel joint RNN model that can predict whether sentences are argumentative or not, and use the predicted results to more precisely detect the argument component boundaries. We evaluate our techniques on two corpora from two different genres; results suggest that our joint RNN model obtain the state-of-the-art performance on both datasets., Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, submitted to IEEE SMC 2017

Abstract

Pseudomonas sp. P11 was isolated from the industrial wastewater sediment nearby the Daye Non-ferrous Metals Company, China. This strain possesses the ability to resist various heavy metals and efficiently precipitate arsenic. We here present a summary classification and a set of features of Pseudomonas sp. P11, together with the description of the genomic sequencing and annotation. The genomic sequence is 6,644,817 bp with a G+C content of 62.20% and contains 6143 protein-coding genes, 250 pseudo genes, and 76 tRNAs/rRNAs genes. Operons and gene clusters responsible for multiple heavy metal tolerance or detoxification were identified and accounted for the observed resistance phenotypes. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that the paralogous arsenic resistant genes possess different evolutionary paths. This study provides important insights to illuminate the versatility and adaptation of this strain to the heavy metal-contaminated environment.

Abstract

Introduction Accumulating evidence has shown an association between maternal supine going-to-sleep position and stillbirth in late pregnancy. Advising women not to go-to-sleep on their back can potentially reduce late stillbirth rate by 9%. However, the association between maternal right-sided going-to-sleep position and stillbirth is inconsistent across studies. Furthermore, individual studies are underpowered to investigate interactions between maternal going-to-sleep position and fetal vulnerability, which is potentially important for producing clear and tailored public health messages on safe going-to-sleep position. We will use individual participant data (IPD) from existing studies to assess whether right-side and supine going-to-sleep positions are independent risk factors for late stillbirth and to test the interaction between going-to-sleep position and fetal vulnerability.Methods and analysis An IPD meta-analysis approach will be used using the Cochrane Collaboration-endorsed methodology. We will identify case–control and prospective cohort studies and randomised trials which collected maternal going-to-sleep position data and pregnancy outcome data that included stillbirth. The primary outcome is stillbirth. A one stage procedure meta-analysis, stratified by study with adjustment of a priori confounders will be carried out.Ethics and dissemination The IPD meta-analysis has obtained central ethics approval from the New Zealand Health and Disability Ethics Committee, ref: NTX/06/05/054/AM06. Individual studies should also have ethical approval from relevant local ethics committees. Interpretation of the results will be discussed with consumer representatives. Results of the study will be published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at international conferences.

In addition, the paper analyzes the etiology and pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, pattern differentiation and treatment, and medicinals, formulas and their modifications of 14 types of male infertility and 11 types of female infertility discussed in the collection. An overview of the collection is also given concerning such academic thoughts as treating man first, advocating abstinence, and regulating mood, which play an important role in the process of reproduction. Abstract

The death of an unborn child is a devastating event which currently affects approximately 500 New Zealand families annually; a rate of 8 per 1000 births. The Auckland Stillbirth Study, which aimed to identify modifiable risk factors for late stillbirth (at or beyond 28 weeks’ gestation), found that women who did not go to sleep on their left side on the night before the baby was thought to have died had a two-fold increase in risk of late stillbirth compared with those who went to sleep on their left. The greatest risk occurred in women who went to sleep supine [Adjusted odds ratio (OR) 2.54 (1.04 to 6.18)] and was independent of known confounders. The editorial accompanying our publication in the BMJ, stressed that our findings were hypothesis generating and highlighted the urgent need for confirmation before public health initiatives were undertaken to modify maternal going-to-sleep position. This provided the stimulus for the New Zealand Multi-Centre Stillbirth Case-Control Study.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is fast becoming the most common liver disease globally and parallels rising obesity rates. The developmental origins of health and disease hypothesis have linked alterations in the early life environment to an increased risk of metabolic disorders in later life. Altered early life nutrition, in addition to increasing risk for the development of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease in offspring, is now associated with an increased risk for the development of NAFLD. This review summarizes emerging research on the developmental programming of NAFLD by both maternal obesity and undernutrition with a particular focus on the possible mechanisms underlying the development of hepatic dysfunction and potential strategies for intervention.

Abstract

A mathematical model is established to investigate the gravity-driven drainage of vertical films containing a soluble surfactant by considering the coupling effect of surface elasticity, adsorption coefficient, and surfactant solubility. The lubrication theory is applied to derive the four coupled nonlinear partial differential equations describing the film thickness, surface velocity, and surfactant concentration on the surface and in the bulk. Simulated results showed that the surface elasticity, adsorption coefficient, and surfactant solubility are indispensable factors in the drainage process of a liquid film containing a soluble surfactant. In the initial stage of the drainage, the initial film thickness increases with increasing surface elasticity and the film surface tends to be more rigid. With further drainage, the liquid film exhibits different notable features for high and low elasticity. For low surface elasticity, the surfactant distribution produces a positive Marangoni effect, which counteracts gravity. However, for high surface elasticity, the film surface exhibits a reverse Marangoni effect, which accelerates the drainage and leads to an unstable film. As the solubility decreases, both the film stability and initial surface elasticity enhance. The surface elasticity gradually approaches a limiting dilational elasticity modulus owing to the film thinning. For a large Ks, the film surface is insufficient to produce a strong Marangoni effect and then the liquid film tends to easily destabilize. For a small Ks, the soluble surfactant is similar to an insoluble surfactant, and the film is much thicker in the later stage of the drainage. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The dynamics of a self-rewetting drop on a uniformly heated, inclined substrate are considered. Based on the lubrication theory and Navier slip condition, an evolution equation for the drop thickness of a two-dimensional drop is established. The migration characteristics of the drop are investigated when the interfacial tension is positive and negative and in a quadratic functional relationship with temperature under the same wetting scenario. The effects of the inclination angle, capillary number, Bond number, and thermocapillary force on the drop migration are examined when the interfacial tension has a nonmonotonic dependence on temperature. Numerical results indicate that the direction of interfacial tension has a significant influence on drop spreading. When the conventional pure fluid drop and self-rewetting fluid drop have the same wettability, the self-rewetting drop spreads more rapidly and the fluid is more evenly distributed on the inclined substrate. The effect of gravity parallel to the wall is enhanced by the increase in the inclination angle, resulting in faster drop sliding velocity. The increase in Ca results in a delay of the contact line pinning state and prolonged pinning time; however, the increase in Bo leads to an advanced pinning state of the contact line and reduced pinning time. The thermocapillary force is important to the deformation of the drop. When the enhancement in the thermocapillary force overcomes the effect of the other forces, less fluid is driven to flow down the wall, resulting in a relatively uniform distribution of the fluid on the substrate. Abstract

The consumption of artificially sweetened processed foods, particularly high in fructose or high fructose corn syrup, has increased significantly in the past few decades. As such, interest into the long term outcomes of consuming high levels of fructose has increased significantly, particularly when the exposure is early in life. Epidemiological and experimental evidence has linked fructose consumption to the metabolic syndrome and associated comorbidities—implicating fructose as a potential factor in the obesity epidemic. Yet, despite the widespread consumption of fructose-containing foods and beverages and the rising incidence of maternal obesity, little attention has been paid to the possible adverse effects of maternal fructose consumption on the developing fetus and long term effects on offspring. In this paper we review studies investigating the effects of fructose intake on metabolic outcomes in both mother and offspring using human and experimental studies.
