A series of lead-free Rb2ZrCl6:xTe4+ (x = 0%, 0.1%, 0.5%, 1.0%, 2.0%, 3.0%, 5.0%, 10.0%) perovskite materials were synthesized through a hydrothermal method in this work. The substitution of Te4+ for Zr in Rb2ZrCl6 was investigated to examine the effect of Te4+ doping on the spectral properties of Rb2ZrCl6 and its potential applications. The incorporation of Te4+ induced yellow emission of triplet self-trapped emission (STE). Different luminescence wavelengths were regulated by Te4+ concentration and excitation wavelength, and under a low concentration of Te4+ doping (x ≤ 0.1%), different types of host STE emission and Te4+ triplet state emission could be achieved through various excitation energies. These luminescent properties made it suitable for applications in information encryption. When Te4+ was doped at high concentrations (x ≥ 1%), yellow triplet state emission of Te4+ predominated, resulting in intense yellow emission, which stemmed from strong exciton binding energy and intense electron-phonon coupling. In addition, a Rb2ZrCl6:2%Te4+@RTV scintillating film was fabricated and a spatial resolution of 3.7 lp/mm was achieved, demonstrating the potential applications of Rb2ZrCl6:xTe4+ in nondestructive detection and bioimaging. Hyperglycemia in pregnancy (HIP) is linked to fetoplacental endothelial dysfunction, which might be a result of hyperglycemia. Hyperglycemia is associated with cell senescence; however, the role and mechanism of high glucose and cell senescence in HIP endothelial cell failure are largely unknown. Our study discovered that human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) obtained from HIP pregnant women exhibit excessive senescence, with significantly elevated expression of senescence markers senescence-associated beta-galactosidase (SA-β-gal), p16, p21, and p53. Subsequently, we found that exposing primary HUVECs and cell lines to high glucose resulted in an increase in the synthesis of these senescence indicators, similar to what had been observed in pregnant women with HIP. A replicate senescence model and stress-induced premature senescence (SIPS) model showed higher amounts of vascular damage indicators, including von Willebrand factor (vWF), chemotactic C-C motif chemokine ligand 2 (CCL2), intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1), along with the anti-apoptotic protein BCL2. However, lower expressions of the pro-apoptotic component BAX, in addition to defective proliferation and tubulogenesis, were seen. Further studies indicated that hyperglycemia can not only induce these alterations in HUVECs but also exacerbate the aforementioned changes in both aging HUVECs. The experiments outlined above have also been validated in pregnant women with HIP. Collectively, these data suggest that exposure to high glucose accelerates cell senescence-mediated vein endothelial cell dysfunction, including excessive inflammation, cell adhesion, impaired angiogenesis, and cell proliferation possibly contributing to pregnancy complications and adverse pregnancy outcomes. In the context of non-uniformity correction (NUC) within infrared imaging systems, current methods frequently concentrate solely on high-frequency stripe non-uniformity noise, neglecting the impact of global low-frequency non-uniformity on image quality, and are susceptible to ghosting artifacts from neighboring frames. In response to such challenges, we propose a method for the correction of non-uniformity in single-frame infrared images based on noise separation in the wavelet domain. More specifically, we commence by decomposing the noisy image into distinct frequency components through wavelet transformation. Subsequently, we employ a clustering algorithm to extract high-frequency noise from the vertical components within the wavelet domain, concurrently employing a method of surface fitting to capture low-frequency noise from the approximate components within the wavelet domain. Ultimately, the restored image is obtained by subtracting the combined noise components. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method, when applied to simulated noisy images, achieves the optimal levels among seven compared methods in terms of MSE, PSNR, and SSIM metrics. After correction on three sets of real-world test image sequences, the average non-uniformity index is reduced by 75.54%. Moreover, our method does not impose significant computational overhead in the elimination of superimposed noise, which is particularly suitable for applications necessitating stringent requirements in both image quality and processing speed. Micron/sub-micron hard X-ray imaging is an important development direction of X-ray detection technology. Scintillation screens with excellent X-ray stopping power and high light output are desired to obtain good imaging quality. Europium-doped lutetium oxide (Lu 2 O 3 :Eu) film with micro-columnar structure is an ideal candidate for this application. In this study, micro-columnar structured Lu 2 O 3 :Eu films were prepared on quartz glass substrates by laser chemical vapor deposition (LCVD) method. The influences of preparation conditions on structure and morphology properties of films were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Photoluminescence and scintillation properties of the films, including photoluminescence excitation (PLE), photoluminescence (PL), PL decay, X-ray excitation luminescence (XEL), and afterglow curves, were recorded. The relationships between structure, morphology, luminescence properties of films, and preparation conditions were investigated and discussed as well. The preparation conditions include laser power, oxygen flow rate, and precursor evaporation temperature. It remains unclear whether to perform a bone graft is necessary during posterior arthroscopic subtalar arthrodesis. The present research aimed to comparatively analyze the outcomes of arthroscopic subtalar arthrodesis through a 3-portal posterior approach with or without bone graft. A total of 93 patients with subtalar arthritis who underwent posterior arthroscopic subtalar arthrodesis were retrospectively examined. The patients were divided into two groups according to whether they received bone graft or not. The clinical outcomes were compared for analysis. Among the 93 patients included, 53 received bone graft and 40 did not. The union rate and time to osseous fusion suggested no significant difference between the two groups. The improvement of clinical outcomes were comparable between the two groups at the final follow-up. It has been reported that the output performance of a triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) can be enhanced by applying light; however, the coupling mechanism between photogenerated carriers and triboelectric charges is still not well explained. Here, we propose a light-enhanced TENG based on a P3HT:PC61BM active blend layer, which processes dual functions of the photoelectric effect and the triboelectric effect. The open-circuit voltage, short circuit current, and amount of transferred charges for the TENG were enhanced by 63%, 76%, and 127%, respectively, after illumination under the white light condition. Moreover, we have investigated the interaction between the triboelectric charges and the photogenerated carriers to further explore the coupling mechanism between the triboelectric and photoelectric effects. Both Kelvin probe force microscopy and conductive atomic force microscopy demonstrate that the photogenerated carriers produced by the P3HT:PC61BM active blend layer can improve the surface triboelectric charge density. More interestingly, the transient absorption spectrum indicates that the electrostatic field induced by triboelectric charges contributes to the dissociation of excitons. In other words, there exists a beneficial promoting effect between the triboelectric charges and the photogenerated carriers during the operation of the light-enhanced TENG. Large‐sized Gd3Al2.3Ga2.7O12:Ce single crystals are grown by the Czochralski method. The distribution of Al and Ga at octahedral (oct‐, 6‐oxygen‐coordinated) and tetrahedral (tet‐, 4‐oxygen‐coordinated) sites in the crystal is studied. Rietveld refinement is used to analyze the site occupation of Al and Ga. The results show that Ga ions with a larger radius than Al ions prefer to occupy the more compact tetrahedral sites. Density functional theory calculations show that the energy for a Ga ion at the tetrahedral site is lower than that at the octahedral site in the Gd3Al5O12 crystal, whereas the case for Al occupation in the Gd3Ga5O12 crystal is opposite. Slater rules are used to estimate the effective charge number of different ions, and the distribution of coordination ions around the octahedral and tetrahedral sites is analyzed. Then, the interaction between ions is simplified and the repulsive energy between Al/Ga and the coordination ions is calculated, which could provide reasonable understanding on the abnormal occupation. Problem: To explore whether the thrombospondin‐1(TSP1)‐CD47‐signal regulatory protein alpha (SIRPα) signaling pathway has impacts on the development of endometriosis. Method of study: Endometrial stromal cells (ESCs) originated from ectopic and eutopic endometrial tissues with or without endometriosis. Monocytes (Macrophages) were isolated from peripheral blood and peritoneal fluids with or without endometriosis. The expression levels of molecules were investigated by flow cytometry (FCM), immunohistochemistry (IHC), and RT‐qPCR. The concentration of TSP1 was assessed via ELISA. The capacities of angiogenesis and phagocytosis were measured via tube formation assay and phagocytic assay, respectively. Results: We confirmed the up‐regulation of critical molecules within the pathway in endometriosis patients. TSP1 can encourage normal ESCs (NESCs) growth and fibrosis. It simultaneously promotes the secretion of inflammatory factors and inhibits the phagocytic abilities of macrophages. Moreover, the proliferation of vascular endothelial cells (VECs) may be improved by TSP1. These effects may be offset by CD47 blocking antibodies. In addition, ectopic ESCs (EESCs) directly improve SIRPα expression on macrophages, which may further exhaust their phagocytic ability. Phagocytosis efficiency of macrophages on EESCs significantly improves by blocking CD47‐SIRPα pathway. Conclusion: TSP1‐CD47‐SIRPα signaling pathway not only improves the viability of NESCs per se but also promotes their survival circumstances by affecting the function of macrophages and VECs, which are mutually reinforcing and jointly promote the development of endometriosis. Background: This study aimed to examine the efficacy and safety of the arthroscopic treatment of osteochondral lesion of talus (OLT) and lateral ankle instability. It was hypothesized that the outcome of all-arthroscopic surgery was no worse than that of the combined open and arthroscopic surgery for treating chronic lateral ankle instability accompanied by OLT. Methods: The patients diagnosed of chronic lateral ankle instability accompanied by OLT, who were surgically treated between May 2015 and May2017, were targeted for inclusion. Specifically, patients who received the arthroscopic treatment of OLT and lateral ankle instability were enrolled in the all-arthroscopic group, while patients who received the arthroscopic treatment of OLT and open lateral ankle stabilization were enrolled in the combined open and arthroscopic group. All the patients were followed up in terms of the Karlsson Ankle Functional Score, visual analog scale (VAS) score, Tegner activity score, and American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) score. Meanwhile, the satisfaction and complication rates were evaluated and compared. Results: This retrospective study included a total of 67 patients, including 32 patients in the all-arthroscopic group and 35 patients in the combined group. At a minimum of 24-month follow-up, the functional outcomes were significantly improved in both groups in relation to the preoperative condition. However, the two groups did not differ significantly from each other in terms of the Karlsson score (83.1 ± 8.2 vs 81.7 ± 9.1; P = 0.89), the VAS score (1.8 ± 1.6 vs 2.1 ± 1.7; P = 0.73), the Tegner score (5.5 ± 2.3 vs 5.0 ± 2.1; P = 0.72), and the AOFAS score (87.7 ± 7.6 vs 86.9 ± 7.3; P = 0.77). In addition, the satisfaction and complication rates exhibited no significant differences between the two groups. Conclusion: In comparison with the open lateral ankle stabilization and arthroscopic treatment of OLT, the all-arthroscopic procedure showed no difference in clinical outcomes at a minimum of 24-month follow-up. Despite the benefits of minimally invasive arthroscopic procedure combined with a relatively aggressive postoperative rehabilitation protocol, the clinical outcomes for patients with chronic lateral ankle instability accompanied by OLT did not yield significant improvement. Background: Evans and Hintermann lateral column lengthening (LCL) procedures are both widely used to correct adult acquired flatfoot deformity (AAFD), and have both shown good clinical results. The aim of this study was to compare these two procedures in terms of corrective ability and biomechanics influence on the Chopart and subtalar joints through finite element (FE) analysis. Methods: Twelve patient-specific FE models were established and validated. The Hintermann osteotomy was performed between the medial and posterior facets of the subtalar joint; while, the Evans osteotomy was performed on the anterior neck of the calcaneus around 10 mm from the calcaneocuboid joint surface. In each procedure, a triangular wedge of varying size was inserted at the lateral edge. The two procedures were then compared based on the measured strains of superomedial calcaneonavicular ligaments and planter facia, the talus-first metatarsal angle, and the contact characteristics of talonavicular, calcaneocuboid and subtalar joints. Results: The Hintermann procedure achieved a greater correction of the talus-first metatarsal angle than Evans when using grafts of the same size, indicating that Hintermann had stronger corrective ability. However, its distributions of von-Mises stress in the subtalar, talonavicular and calcaneocuboid joints were less homogeneous than those of Evans. In addition, the strains of superomedial calcaneonavicular ligaments and planter facia of Hintermann were also greater than those of Evans, but both generally within the safe range (less than 6%). Conclusion: This FE analysis study indicates that both Evans and Hintermann procedures have good corrective ability for AAFD. Compared to Evans, Hintermann procedure can provide a stronger corrective effect while causing greater disturbance to the biomechanics of Chopart joints, which may be an important mechanism of arthritis. Nevertheless, it yields a better protection to the subtalar joint than Evans osteotomy. Clinical relevance: Both Evans and Hintermann LCL surgeries have a considerable impact on adjacent joints and ligament tissues. The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of radiotherapy on the overall survival of patients with primary stage IA, grade I–III uterine endometrioid carcinoma or stage IB, grade I–II uterine endometrioid carcinoma. A total of 7504 patients with stage IA, grade I–III uterine endometrioid carcinoma, and 857 patients with stage IB, grade I–II uterine endometrioid carcinoma were collected for the present study. Following propensity score matching (PSM), statistical analysis was performed for the equalized number of patients with stage IA, grade I–III uterine endometrioid carcinoma (n = 383) and patients with stage IB, grade I–II uterine endometrioid carcinoma (n = 330). For patients with primary stage IA, grade I–III uterine endometrioid carcinoma, radiotherapy was found to promoted a reduced 5-year overall survival rates [hazard ratio (HR), 1.726; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.456–2.046; P < 0.05]. In patients with primary stage IB, grade I–II uterine endometrioid carcinoma, no significant differences were observed in the 5-year overall survival rates between radiotherapy and no radiotherapy groups (P = 0.059). In conclusion, radiotherapy may not improve 5-year overall survival for patients with primary stage IA, grade I–III or stage IB, grade I–II uterine endometrioid carcinoma. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The present study aimed to investigate whether baicalein improves the sensitivity of resistant ovarian cancer cells to cisplatin. Methods: Transcriptomic sequencing and bioinformatics analysis were used to screen differentially expressed CirSLC7A6 in A2780 and A2780/CDDP cells. RT-qPCR was performed to examine the expression levels of CirSLC7A6, miR-2682-5p, and SLC7A6. Cell proliferation and apoptosis were examined using a Cell Counting Kit-8 assay and flow cytometry, and cell migration and invasion were analyzed using wound healing and Transwell assays. Cell suspensions were inoculated into the subcutaneous tissues of the bilateral interscapular region of nude mice. Saline, cisplatin, baicalein and cisplatin plus baicalein were intraperitoneally injected to observe the effects on tumor growth. Toxicity analyses in the liver and kidney were performed using H&E staining. RT-qPCR and immunohistochemistry were used to detect the expression of CirSLC7A6, miR-2682-5p, and SLC7A6 in tumor tissues, and western blot analysis was carried out to measure protein expression levels. Results: CirSLC7A6 was markedly upregulated in A2780/CDDP cells compared with the A2780 cells. CirSLC7A6 knockdown notably increased the expression of miR-2682-5p and decreased SLC7A6 expression. The rates of inhibition and apoptosis in the group treated with a combination of cisplatin and baicalein were significantly higher than those of the cisplatin and baicalein groups of A2780/CDDP shCirSLC7A6 cells. In A2780/CDDP shCirSLC7A6 cells, migration and invasion were significantly higher in the cisplatin and baicalein groups, compared with the combined treatment group. In the A2780/CDDP shCirSLC7A6 cell xenograft, the tumor weight of the combined treatment group was significantly lower than that of the cisplatin and baicalein groups. In addition, the combination of cisplatin and baicalein did not induce higher levels of toxicity in the liver or kidney. Baicalein alone and in combination with cisplatin notably reduced the expression of CirSLC7A6 and SLC7A6, and increased the expression of miR-2682-5p in the A2780/CDDP shCirSLC7A6 cell xenograft. In A2780/CDDP shCirSLC7A6 cells, the expression levels of P-Akt, P-mTOR, P-Erk, Bcl-2 and MMP2 were lower in the combined treatment group than in the control group. A recycled packaging material was found to be a PP copolymer after examinations with DSC, FTIR, and TG techniques. It produced 4.39% residue when heated to 800 °C. In addition, SEM microscopic observations revealed some particles dispersed in the recycled PP (recPP) matrix, resulting in a great source for promotion of recPP crystallization temperature. In the present work, NPG, TMB-5, and CaPA were used as β-nucleating agents to modify PP and recPP crystallization behaviors. The results imply that these three nucleating agents are effective for PP to form β crystal in which TMB-5 revealed the best induction and heterogeneous nucleation effects. However, the nucleating effect for NPG decreased when it was added to recPP. The effect of CaPA also weakened, whereas TMB-5 performed well with the optimum content of 0.1%. When CaPA was added together with PCB powder, the β-nucleating effect of CaPA was enhanced, making β crystal as the main form when using only 0.01% CaPA. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) is a bioactive phospholipid that regulates physiological and pathological processes in numerous cell biological functions, including cell migration, apoptosis, and proliferation. Macrophages are found in most human tissues and have multiple physiological and pathological functions. There is growing evidence that LPA signaling plays a significant role in the physiological function of macrophages and accelerates the development of diseases caused by macrophage dysfunction and inflammation, such as inflammation-related diseases, cancer, atherosclerosis, and fibrosis. In this review, we summarize the roles of LPA in macrophages, analyze numerous macrophage- and inflammation-associated diseases triggered by LPA, and discuss LPA-targeting therapeutic strategies. Co-doping is one of the important methods to optimize the performance of scintillation crystal. In this work, GAGG:1.0 at.%Ce,x at.%Yb(x = 0, 0.2, 0.5 and 1.0) crystals were grown by Czochralski method. Relationships between Yb concentration and optical, photoluminescence (PL), scintillation properties of GAGG:Ce,Yb are investigated, including absorption, light output, decay time. Moreover, PL decay curves were measured at various temperatures between 77 and 500 K to investigate the luminescence thermal quenching behavior. The results show that with the increase of Yb3+ concentration, the transmittance of GAGG crystal increases. Decay time is also significantly improved. 1.0 at.%Yb co-doped sample showed the fastest PL decay time of 36 ns among the Yb-co-doped samples. Despite the fact that photoactive piezoelectric nanogenerators (PENGs) have been getting more attention due to their significant potential as a self-powered photodetector and pressure sensor, investigations on the interaction mechanism between photogenerated carriers and piezoelectric charges are still insufficient. In this study, photoactive PENGs based on methylammonium lead halides-poly(vinylidene) (MAPI-PVDF) composite were fabricated, in which the presence of MAPI in the PVDF matrix plays a dual role in enhancing the nucleation of the electroactive β-phase as well as inducing photoactivity in the composite. It has an optimal open-circuit voltage of 4.7 V and short-circuit current of 0.2 μA at 10 wt. % concentration of MAPI under illumination, which is nearly halved in the dark. Furthermore, we have thoroughly explored the interaction mechanism between photogenerated carriers and piezoelectric charges by piezoresponse scanning force microscopy techniques, photoluminescence spectroscopy, and a bandgap analysis. The results demonstrate that the photogenerated carriers screen part of the piezoelectric potential induced by the piezoelectric charges, while the piezoelectric charges promote more photogenerated carriers recombination. This work opens up horizons for the piezoelectric community in designing photoactive PENGs with multiple application modes and provides an effective approach to the development of piezoelectric materials. Although ceramic fiber brushes have been widely used for deburring and surface finishing, the associated relationship between process parameters and lapping quality is still unclear. In order to optimize the lapping process of ceramic fiber brushes, this paper proposes a multi-layer neural network based on the Gaussian-restricted Boltzmann machine (GRBM), and verified its prediction effectiveness. Compared with a traditional back-propagation neural network, its prediction error was reduced from 7.6% to 4.5%, and the determination coefficient was increased from 0.96 to 0.98, respectively. The comparison results showed that the proposed model can better grasp the relationship between process parameters and machining quality, which can be used as a decision-making foundation for lapping-process optimization. Objectives: Interleukin 33 (IL-33) is a crucial inflammatory factor that functions as an alarm signal in endometriosis (EMs). Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), a process related to inflammatory signals, intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, and lipid peroxidation, have been proposed as potential mechanisms that contribute to the development and progression of EMs. IL-33 is highly upregulated in the ectopic milieu. Moreover, ectopic endometrial cells constitutively express interleukin-33 receptor ST2 (IL-33R). However, the role of IL-33/ST2 in the EMT of EMs remains largely unknown. In this study, we aimed to mechanistically determine the role of IL-33/ST2 in EMs-associated fibrosis. Materials and methods: We established a non-lethal oxidative stress model to explore the conditions that trigger IL-33 induction. We performed α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) protein detection, cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) assays, and scratch assays to analyze the impact of IL-33 on primary endometrial stromal cells (ESCs) proliferation and invasion. Clinical samples from patients with or without EMs were subjected to immunohistochemical (IHC) and and immunofluorescence(IF) staining to assess the clinical relevance of IL-33 receptor ST2 and EMT-related proteins. Furthermore, we used the ectopic human endometrial epithelial cell line 12Z and normal human epithelial cell line EEC to evaluate the effects of IL-33 on Wnt/β-catenin signaling. The effect of IL-33 on EMT-associated fibrosis was validated in vivo by intraperitoneal injections of IL-33 and antiST2. Results: We observed that ectopic milieu, characterized by ROS, TGF-β1, and high level of estrogen, triggers the secretion of IL-33 from ectopic ESCs. Ectopic endometrial lesions exhibited higher level of fibrotic characteristics and ST2 expression than that in the normal endometrium. Exogenous recombinant human (rhIL-33) enhanced ESC migration and survival. Similarly, 12Z cells displayed a higher degree of EMT characteristics with elevated expression of CCN4 and Fra-1, downstream target genes of the WNT/β-catenin pathway, than that observed in EECs. Conversely, blocking IL-33 with neutralizing antibodies, knocking down ST2 or β-catenin with siRNA, and β-catenin dephosphorylation abolished its effects on EMT promotion. In vivo validation demonstrated that IL-33 significantly promotes EMs-related fibrosis through the activation of Wnt/β-catenin signaling. Conclusion: Our data strongly support the vital role of the IL-33/ST2 pathway in EMs-associated fibrosis and emphasize the importance of the EMT in the pathophysiology of fibrosis. Background: COVID-19-associated pulmonary fibrosis remains frequent. This study aimed to investigate pulmonary redox balance in COVID-19 ARDS patients and possible relationship with pulmonary fibrosis and long-term lung abnormalities. Methods: Baseline data, chest CT fibrosis scores, N-terminal peptide of alveolar collagen III (NT-PCP-III), transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1, superoxide dismutase (SOD), reduced glutathione (GSH), oxidized glutathione (GSSG) and malondialdehyde (MDA) in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) were first collected and compared between SARS-CoV-2 RNA positive patients with moderate to severe ARDS (n = 65, COVID-19 ARDS) and SARS-CoV-2 RNA negative non-ARDS patients requiring mechanical ventilation (n = 63, non-ARDS). Then, correlations between fibroproliferative (NT-PCP-III and TGF-β1) and redox markers were analyzed within COVID-19 ARDS group, and comparisons between survivor and non-survivor subgroups were performed. Finally, follow-up of COVID-19 ARDS survivors was performed to analyze the relationship between pulmonary abnormalities, fibroproliferative and redox markers 3 months after discharge. Results: Compared with non-ARDS group, COVID-19 ARDS group had significantly elevated chest CT fibrosis scores (p < 0.001) and NT-PCP-III (p < 0.001), TGF-β1 (p < 0.001), GSSG (p < 0.001), and MDA (p < 0.001) concentrations on admission, while decreased SOD (p < 0.001) and GSH (p < 0.001) levels were observed in BALF. Both NT-PCP-III and TGF-β1 in BALF from COVID-19 ARDS group were directly correlated with GSSG (p < 0.001) and MDA (p < 0.001) and were inversely correlated with SOD (p < 0.001) and GSH (p < 0.001). Within COVID-19 ARDS group, non-survivors (n = 28) showed significant pulmonary fibroproliferation (p < 0.001) with more severe redox imbalance (p < 0.001) than survivors (n = 37). Furthermore, according to data from COVID-19 ARDS survivor follow-up (n = 37), radiographic residual pulmonary fibrosis and lung function impairment improved 3 months after discharge compared with discharge (p < 0.001) and were associated with early pulmonary fibroproliferation and redox imbalance (p < 0.01). Conclusions: Pulmonary redox imbalance occurring early in COVID-19 ARDS patients drives fibroproliferative response and increases the risk of death. Long-term lung abnormalities post-COVID-19 are associated with early pulmonary fibroproliferation and redox imbalance. BiOI film was electrodeposited deposited on fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO), then it was transformed into a nanoporous BiVO 4 film by annealing at 420 °C. The BiVO 4 /FTO electrode is used as photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensor to detect ascorbic acid (AA) for the first time. Under illumination of low power 20 W LED lamp, the current density of the sensor increases with the increase of AA concentration. The proposed PEC sensor exhibited a sensitive detection for AA in a wide range from 5 μM to 300 μM with a low detection limit of 1 μM (S/N = 3) and sensitivity of 293 μA mM−1 cm−2. A portable AA detection device was constructed with a 20W LED lamp as the light source, BiVO 4 /FTO electrode as an anode, Pt as a cathode, and ammeter as a photoelectric signal receiver. Problem: Excess caloric intake and irregular circadian rhythm could severely impair female reproductive, metabolic, and immune function. However, the similarities and differences between their individual and combined effects and mechanisms have not been fully elucidated. Due to limitations and confounding factors in clinical research, we used these two kinds of unhealthy factors to intervene the mice singly or in combination to explore their effects on individuals. Method of study: We used a high‐calorie diet (HCD), constant light exposure (CLE), and a high‐calorie diet combined with constant light exposure (HCD + CLE) to build three different mouse models. During the 9 weeks modeling period, the estrous cycles were monitored, and after modeling, the indicators of glycolipid metabolism, inflammation, and reproductive endocrine function were tested. Results: We found that both HCD and CLE alone could induce ovulatory disorders, obesity, and chronic low‐grade inflammation and inhibit melatonin secretion. The difference was that HCD significantly reduced the serum luteinizing hormone (LH) and testosterone (T) levels, inhibited the expression of FSH β and LH β in pituitary, increased cytochrome P450 enzymes and LH receptor expression in ovary, as well causing impaired glucose tolerance and hyperlipidemia, and significantly promoted the secretion of leptin and inhibited the secretion of adiponectin. However, CLE significantly increased blood LH and T, prompted the expression of kisspeptin in hypothalamus and LH β in pituitary, and had no effect on glycolipid metabolic indexes or the secretion of leptin or adiponectin. The phenotype of HCD + CLE model was basically the same as that of HCD model, associated with more severe visceral obesity and chronic inflammation. Conclusions: In conclusion, we found that unhealthy lifestyle determines the phenotype of reproductive endocrine, immune, and metabolic disorders. Endometriosis is a common estrogen-dependent condition that impacts 8–10% of women in their reproductive age, resulting in notable pain, morbidity, and infertility. Despite extensive research endeavors, the precise cause of endometriosis remains elusive, and the mechanisms contributing to its associated infertility are still not well comprehended. Natural killer (NK) cells, vital innate immune cells crucial for successful pregnancy, have been investigated for their potential involvement in the pathogenesis of endometriosis. Prior research has mainly concentrated on the diminished cytotoxicity of NK cells in endometrial fragments that evade the uterus. Interestingly, accumulating evidence suggests that NK cells play multifaceted roles in regulating the biology of endometrial stromal cells (ESCs), promoting local immune tolerance, influencing endometrial receptivity, oocyte development, and embryo implantation, thereby contributing to infertility and miscarriage in patients with endometriosis. Aim: Cisplatin‐based chemotherapy is the first‐line treatment for ovarian cancer. However, acquired resistance to cisplatin treatment or serious side effects often occurs in ovarian cancer, and thus, there is an urgent need for effective and combined therapies to overcome such obstacles. In the present study, we aimed to uncover synergistic effects between erastin and cisplatin (CDDP) in inhibiting ovarian cancer cell growth by inducing ferroptosis in vitro and in vivo. Methods: We performed a CCK‐8 assay to detect cell viability in response to erastin alone or in combination with cisplatin and provided further confirmation by western blotting analysis. Transmission electron microscopy and flow cytometry analysis were used to depict the characteristics of ferroptosis. In addition, an ovarian cancer tumor xenograft was built to verify the effects in vivo. Results: CDDP induced multiple modes of cell death‐including ferroptosis in ovarian cancer cell lines. Mechanistically, erastin triggered ferroptosis and increased the levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) so as to augment the cytotoxic effect of cisplatin. Combination therapy based on CDDP and erastin appeared to maximize the therapeutic effects while minimizing side effects in ovarian cancer both in vitro and in vivo. Conclusion: Collectively, our results indicate that erastin works synergistically with cisplatin to inhibit ovarian cancer cell growth, which may be manipulated by a ROS‐mediated mechanism that enhances cisplatin therapy, and offers a novel strategy for overcoming cisplatin therapy resistance. Background: As a dual-function metabolite, succinate has emerged in cell function and plays a key signaling role in linking mitochondrial function to other cellular functions. Succinate accumulation in the cytoplasm is commonly associated with hypoxia in the microenvironment and immune cell activation. Extracellular succinate released into the microenvironment is considered an inflammatory alarm that can be sensed by its membrane receptor SUCNR1, which boosts proinflammatory responses and acts akin to classical hormones and cytokines. Succinate plays an important role in the development of inflammatory diseases. Whether succinate facilitates the progression of endometriosis (EMs), characterized by chronic inflammation and peritoneal adhesion, is worth exploring. Objective: We mimicked the ectopic milieu in vitro and in vivo to evaluate the main source and potential role of succinate in endometriosis. We assessed the molecular and functional effects of succinate on macrophages and peritoneal mesothelial cells in peritoneal cavity. The effect of succinate/SUCNR1 signaling on ectopic endometrial stromal cells (ESCs) was further explored in this study. Methods: In this study, we used targeted organic acid metabolomics analysis and in vitro assays to assess the potential accumulation of succinate in the peritoneal fluid of EMs patients. We examined its correlation with disease severity, Visual Analogue Scale, and the Endometriosis Fertility Index. Flow cytometry, enzyme linked immunosorbent assay, western blot assay, quantitative real-time PCR, and other molecular biology techniques were used to explore the potential mechanisms. Results: By mimicking the ectopic milieu, we constructed an in vitro co-culture system and found that M1 polarized macrophages and that the peritoneal mesothelial cell line (HMrSV5) mainly released succinate into their microenvironment and activated the succinate receptor (SUCNR1) signal, which further polarized the macrophages and significantly enhanced the invasive survival of ESCs, and the adhesion to the peritoneum. We further investigated the pathological effects of extracellular succinate in vivo using a xenograft mouse models of endometriosis. Conclusions: Succinate-SUCNR1 signaling facilitates the creation of inflammatory cells and plays a vital role in EMs progression and peritoneal adhesion. Background: Pregnancy, a complex biological phenomenon, relies on intricate maternal–fetal interactions for success. Decidual natural killer (dNK) cells and trophoblasts are pivotal in establishing immune tolerance at the maternal–fetal interface. The chemokine receptor CXCR4 plays a crucial role in NK cell development and immune tolerance during early placental development. Methods: Primary decidual immune cells from 42 women with normal pregnancies and 20 patients experiencing recurrent spontaneous abortions (RSAs) were studied. Gene transcription in NK cells was assessed using real-time polymerase chain reaction. In a co-culture system, we examined the influence of trophoblasts on CXCR4 expression in dNK cells, with subsequent analysis conducted via flow cytometry. The proportion of CXCR4+ NK cells was assessed using flow cytometry after co-culture with trophoblasts pre-treated with 3-MA or a p53 activator. Results: Our study confirmed a diminished presence of decidual CXCR4+ NK cells in RSA patients during early pregnancy. Co-culturing with a trophoblast-derived supernatant increased CXCR4 expression in dNK cells. In addition, trophoblast autophagy plays an educative role in regulating the dNK landscape via the IGF2-TP53-CXCR4 axis. Conclusion: Autophagy inhibition in trophoblasts induces an aberrant shift in the CXCR4+ dNK phenotype, potentially contributing to pregnancy loss. Background: Traditional methods for minimally invasive internal fixation (MIIF) of calcaneal fractures require extensive intraoperative fluoroscopy, and fracture recovery is usually not ideal. We developed a new surgical procedure using digital surgical simulation and constructed a patient-specific instrument (PSI) for calcaneal fracture that we used during the operation. This study investigated whether PSI-assisted MIIF of calcaneal fracture enables rapid and accurate execution of the preoperative plan.Methods: We retrospectively analyzed patients with Sanders type III or IV fresh calcaneal fractures who had undergone PSI-assisted MIIF at our hospital from January 2016 to December 2018. We analyzed perioperative data including intraoperative fluoroscopy time, concurrence of internal fixation actual usage (IFAU) with the preoperative plan, surgery time, and complications. We also compared pre- and postoperative actual measurements from X-ray radiographs and computed tomography images including Böhler, Gissane, and calcaneus valgus angles; subtalar joint width; and calcaneal volume overlap ratio with the preoperative design. All patients had been followed up and their American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Score (AOFAS) score was available.Results: Mean intraoperative fluoroscopy time was 3.95 ± 1.78 h; IFAU in 16 patients (16 ft) was the same as the preoperative plan; mean surgery time was 28.16 ± 10.70 min; and none of the patients developed complications. Böhler, Gissane, and calcaneus valgus angles and subtalar joint width did not differ between pre- and postoperative plans; however, the actual preoperative values of each of these parameters differed significantly from those measured postoperatively. The calcaneal volume overlap ratio with the preoperative design was 91.2% ± 2.3%. AOFAS scores increased with time, with significant differences in the score at each time point.Conclusions: The newly developed PSI-assisted calcaneal fracture MIIF method can rapidly and accurately execute the preoperative plan. Endometriosis (EMs) is a common disease among women whose pathogenesis is still unclear, although there are various hypotheses. Recent studies have considered macrophages the key part of the immune system in developing EMs, inducing inflammation, the growth and invasion of the ectopic endometrium, and angiogenesis. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) as novel intercellular vesicle traffic, can be secreted by many kinds of cells, including macrophages. By carrying long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), microRNA (miRNA), or other molecules, EVs can regulate the biological functions of macrophages in an autocrine and paracrine manner, including ectopic lesion growth, immune dysfunction, angiogenesis, and can further accelerate the progression of EMs. In this review, the interactions between macrophages and EVs for the pathogenesis of EMs are summarized. Tubal ectopic pregnancy (TEP) occurs when an embryo aberrantly implants in the fallopian tube, leading to abortive or ruptured tubal ectopic pregnancy (AEP or REP). Poor outcomes of REP include maternal infertility or mortality. Current studies on the prevention and treatment of ruptured tubal ectopic pregnancy (REP) are unfortunately hampered by a lack of the cell spectrum and cell–cell communications in the maternal–foetal interface. Here, we investigate the mechanisms of tubal rupture through single‐cell transcriptome profiling of the fallopian tube‐trophoblast interface in REP, AEP and intrauterine pregnancy patients. In REP, extravillous trophoblast (EVTs) cells form a dominant cell population, displaying aggressive invasion and proliferation, with robust differentiation into three subsets. Cell communication analysis identified colony‐stimulating factor 1 (CSF1), overexpressed by fallopian tube secretory epithelial cells in REP, with CSF1R on EVTs and macrophages, as a ligand/receptor pair that stimulates EVT invasion and macrophage accumulation. CSF1+ secretory epithelial cells stimulate EVTs migration and invasion, leading to a tubal rupture in REP. These results provide a mechanistic context and cellular milieu leading to tubal rupture, facilitating further study and development of therapeutics for REP in early pregnancy. Background: Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) remains a serious chronic diabetic complication that can lead to disability. CircRNA‐itchy E3 ubiquitin protein ligase (circ‐ITCH) was observed to be down‐regulated in diabetic retinopathy and diabetic nephropathy, and overexpression of circ‐ITCH could inhibit the processes of these diseases. However, the detailed physiological and pathological functions of circ‐ITCH in wound healing of DFU remain undetermined. Methods: Exosomes derived from bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) were isolated and identified. Cell viability and angiogenesis of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were evaluated by cell counting kit‐8 (CCK‐8) and tube formation assays, respectively. The interplays of circ‐ITCH, TATA‐Box‐binding protein associated factor 15 (TAF15) and nuclear factor erythroid 2‐related factor 2 (Nrf2) mRNA were analysed by RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP), fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) combined immunofluorescent staining and RNA pull‐down assays. qRT‐PCR, western blot or immunohistochemistry (IHC) were used to measure the expression of circ‐ITCH, TAF15, Nrf2, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGFR) and ferroptosis‐related makers. The mice DFU model was established to verify the in vitro results. Results: Circ‐ITCH was down‐regulated in in vitro and in vivo models of DFU. Deferoxamine (DFO), an iron chelating agent, improved the viability and angiogenic ability of high glucose (HG)‐treated HUVECs. Overexpression of circ‐ITCH or co‐cultured with exosomal circ‐ITCH from BMSCs could alleviate HG‐induced ferroptosis and improve the angiogenesis ability of HUVECs. Circ‐ITCH in HUVECs recruited TAF15 protein to stabilize Nrf2 mRNA, thus activating the Nrf2 signalling pathway and suppressing ferroptosis. Exosomal circ‐ITCH from BMSCs also accelerated the wound healing process by inhibiting ferroptosis in the DFU mice in a time‐dependent manner. Conclusion: Exosomal circ‐ITCH from BMSCs inhibited ferroptosis and improved the angiogenesis of HUVECs through activation of the Nrf2 signalling pathway by recruiting TAF15 protein, ultimately accelerating the wound healing process in DFU. We previously revealed that cystathionine-beta-synthase (CBS) for production of H2S is expressed in neonatal rat medulla oblongata and CBS-H2S pathway contributes to protection of medullary respiratory centers against injury induced by acute hypoxia in both neonatal and adult rats. The present study was carried out to explore if expression of CBS/H2S in medulla oblongata is upregulated by chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH) in adult rats. Adult SD rats were randomly divided into control and CIH groups. The levels of mRNA and protein of CBS in medulla oblongata were analyzed by RT-PCR and Western blot, respectively. The expression of CBS protein in medullary respiration-related nuclei was examined with immunohistochemistry. H2S production rate by medulla oblongata was measured by methylene blue assay. It was indicated that the levels of both mRNA and protein of CBS in medulla oblongata were higher in CIH group (P <0.05); CBS protein was expressed and upregulated by CIH in neurons of pre-Bötzinger complex, hypoglossal nucleus, ambiguous nucleus and facial nucleus (P <0.05); and the production rate of H2S by medulla oblongata was elevated in CIH group (P <0.05). We conclude therefore that CBS exists in adult rat medullary respiratory centers and the level of CBS/H2S in medulla oblongata can be upregulated by CIH, suggesting that CBS-H2S pathway may be involved in protection of medullary respiratory centers against CIH injury in adult rats. ENCD (http://www.bio-server.cn/ENCD/) is a manually curated database that provides comprehensive experimentally supported associations among endocrine system diseases (ESDs) and long non-coding ribonucleic acid (lncRNAs). The incidence of ESDs has increased in recent years, often accompanying other chronic diseases, and can lead to disability. A growing body of research suggests that lncRNA plays an important role in the progression and metastasis of ESDs. However, there are no resources focused on collecting and integrating the latest and experimentally supported lncRNA–ESD associations. Hence, we developed an ENCD database that consists of 1379 associations between 35 ESDs and 501 lncRNAs in 12 human tissues curated from literature. By using ENCD, users can explore the genetic data for diseases corresponding to the body parts of interest as well as study the lncRNA regulating mechanism for ESDs. ENCD also provides a flexible tool to visualize a disease- or gene-centric regulatory network. In addition, ENCD offers a submission page for researchers to submit their newly discovered endocrine disorders-genetic data entries online. The endocrine-related cancers and hormones are undoubtedly highly interconnected. How hormones support or repress tumor induction and progression has been extensively profiled. Furthermore, advances in understanding the role of glutamine metabolism in mediating tumorigenesis and development, coupled with these in-depth studies on hormone (e.g., estrogen, progesterone, androgen, prostaglandin, thyroid hormone, and insulin) regulation of glutamine metabolism, have led us to think about the relationship between these three factors, which remains to be elucidated. Accordingly, in this review, we present an updated overview of glutamine metabolism traits and its influence on endocrine oncology, as well as its upstream hormonal regulation. In this paper, we present the results of research on the structure and properties of coral/PP biocomposites. Coral powder was chemically treated before use with pimelic acid (PA) through solution method. It was compounded with PP using melt extrusion, and the structures and properties of prepared PP composites were examined. The results show that the coral powder treated with PA performs as an efficient β-nucleating agent, resulting in the maximum K value of 0.922 in the composites. It also significantly improved the impact strength by 220.6 % compared with that of the neat PP via improvement in the dispersion and compatibility in PP matrix. Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness associated with the use of the cementless femoral revision in patients with a previous cemented prosthesis. Methods: This study reviewed 92 revision femoral stem performed by a single senior surgeon between January 2006 and December 2012 at our institution. All patients complained of unbearable pain before operation, of which 19 cases had extensively porous-coated revision in Paprosky type I or II femoral defects and 73 had modular tapered revision in type IIIA or IIIB defects. All patients had clinical and radiographic follow-up for an average of 3.9 years (range two to seven years), with a mean age of 62.5 years (range 46-86 years) at surgery. Results: There was no re-revision for loosening. Complications included delayed wound healing in two (2.2 %) patients, dislocation in four (4.3 %), intra-operative femoral fracture in 11 (12.0 %), and periprosthetic fracture postoperatively in three (3.3 %).The average Harris hip scores (HHS) increased from 38.1 (range 20-70) pre-operatively to 82.5 (range 40-95), and the average visual analog scores (VAS) decreased from 8 .3 (range 4-10) pre-operatively to 1.5 (range 0-5) at final follow-up. Radiographic results including stress shielding, subsidence of the stems, bone ingrowth and prosthesis loosening showed that prostheses were stably fixed postoperatively. Conclusion: This supported that cementless fixation, with the use of extensively porous-coated stems or modular tapered stems, was efficient in patients with a previous failed cemented stem. This study aimed to compare the serial changes of Tim‐3/Gal‐9, and PD‐1/PL‐1 in peripheral blood over a 4‐week period after blastocyst transfer, between women who had a live birth and those who miscarried. Methods of study: Serial blood samples were obtained on the day of ET, and 9, 16, 23, and 30 days after ET for the measurement of Tim‐3 and PD‐1 expressions on various lymphocytes by flow cytometry. Concentrations of serum Gal‐9 and PD‐L1 were measured by ELISA. Results: In pregnancies that resulted in a live birth, a significant and sustained increase in the proportion of Tim‐3+pNK cells was observed from the 9th to 30th days after ET, whilst the concentration of serum PD‐L1 was significantly increased on the 23rd and 30th days after ET when compared to the day of ET. In pregnancies that later miscarried, none of the parameters were significantly changed across all the time points examined. When comparing the results between the two groups, the proportion of Tim‐3+ CD56dimNK cells in the women who had a live birth was significantly higher than that in women who miscarried from the 9th to 30th day after ET. Conclusion: A significant and sustained increase in the proportion of Tim‐3+ pNK cells was observed in pregnancies resulting in a live birth but not in pregnancies resulting in a miscarriage, suggesting the changes may be associated with successful pregnancy outcomes. Problem: Repeated implantation failure (RIF) is a daunting obstacle restricting the further improvement of embryo implantation rate (IR) and live birth rate (LBR). The beneficial effect of cyclosporine A (CsA) on reproductive outcomes of unexplained RIF(URIF) was explored after de novo embryo transfer (ET). Method of study: A retrospective cohort study was conducted, comparing pregnancy outcomes of 146 cycles (CsA group, n = 62; control group, n = 84) at the IVF center of Suzhou Municipal Hospital from April 2016 to March 2020. Results: Baseline and transfer cycle characteristics of participants were comparable between groups. Overall, CsA exerted obvious improvement on IR (51.16% vs 31.97%, P =.006), clinical pregnancy rate (CPR) (58.06% vs 38.10%, P =.017), and LBR (48.39% vs 32.14%, P =.047). Especially, CsA showed remarkably enhancement on IR (41.38% vs 14.63%, P =.012), CPR (47.62% vs 17.24%, P =.021) of non‐high quality embryos. No difference in obstetric and pediatric complications was observed, and no birth defects were reported under CsA application. CsA was found to be a predictor of clinical pregnancy [fine adjusted OR 2.360, 95 % CI 1.165–4.781; P =.017] and live birth [fine adjusted OR 2.339, 95% CI 1.124–4.867; P =.023] for multivariate logistic regression. Not surprisingly, the number of high quality embryos should also be considered as an independent predictor for clinical pregnancy [fine adjusted OR 1.637,95%CI 1.027–2.609; P =.038] and live birth [fine adjusted OR 1.890, 95% CI 1.165–3.068; P =.010]. Problem: Diminished ovarian reserve (DOR) is a daunting obstacle in in vitro fertilization (IVF) or intra cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), leading to poor reproductive outcomes. We aim to characterize the T cell and cytokine profiles in follicular fluid (FF) and elucidate its contribution to the development of DOR. Method of study: A total of 92 infertile women were enrolled in the study. We assessed the ultrastructure, proliferation, and apoptosis of granulosa cells (GCs). The levels of CCL5 and cytokines in FF was measured. Additionally, we classified the T cells and analyzed cytokines production in T cell. We further verified whether CCL5 can recruit specific T cell subcytes to the follicles. Results: Cytoplasmic vacuolization, nucleolar dissociation, partial shortening, swelling, and fusion of mitochondrial cristae were obvious in GCs with DOR. The proliferation of GCs decreased and the proportion of apoptosis increased in DOR. The down‐regulation of Bcl‐2 and up‐regulation of caspase3 were seen in GCs with DOR. The number of CD8+ T cells and proportion of CD8+ /CD4+ T cells in DOR exceeded the control. Higher positive percentage of CD69, CCR5, and IFN‐γ in CD8+ T cells, lower positive percentage of IL‐10 in CD4+ T cells and PD‐1 in CD8+ T cells were detected in DOR. CCL5 accumulated promoting the recruitment of CD8+ T cells to the follicles on interaction with CCR5. Conclusion: The abnormal proportion of CD8+ T cells and elevated CCL5 and IFN‐γ may change the immune balance in FF and impair the growth of GCs, which in turn fuel the progression of DOR. Pre-eclampsia is a severe hypertensive disorder of pregnancy (HDP), mainly characterized by new-onset hypertension with proteinuria after 20-week gestation. Sirtuin1 (SIRT1), a class III histone deacetylase, is associated with the regulation of various pathophysiological processes, including inflammation, immune response, metabolism, and autophagy. However, the effect of SIRT1 in the pathogenesis of pre-eclampsia remains to be elucidated. In this study, we found that the expression of SIRT1 was relatively lower in the placentas and serum samples of pre-eclampsia patients. Typical pre-eclampsia-like symptoms, such as hypertension, proteinuria, fetal growth restriction, kidney injury, and a narrow placental labyrinth layer, were observed in SIRT1 knockdown (SIRT1+/−) mice. Of note, these performances could be improved after the intraperitoneal injection of SIRT1 agonist SRT2104. More importantly, we found that the efficacy of progesterone on attenuating symptoms of PE was profoundly better than that of metformin in SIRT1+/− mice. In addition, our results suggested that progesterone can promote the invasion and inhibit the apoptosis of trophoblasts. These data suggest that SIRT1 plays an important role in pre-eclampsia and that progesterone alleviates pre-eclampsia-like symptoms mediated by SIRT1 deficiency. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The regulation of solar radiation is a pivotal agricultural practice in enhancing the quality of grapes and subsequently, wine. In regions like Yantai, where solar radiation levels are typically low, the accumulation of wine phenolic compounds is negatively impacted. In light of this, our study sought to assess the efficacy of silver reflective mulch (RM) treatment on grape yield, maturity, and phenolic composition. Specifically, we applied RM treatment post-veraison to a Cabernet Gernischt (Vitis vinifera L.) vineyard in the Yantai wine region of China. Our findings indicate a consistent improvement in grape maturity with RM treatment, alongside enhanced accumulation of total phenols (TP), total tannins (TT), and total anthocyanins (TAC) in grape skin. Consequently, this led to elevated levels of phenolic compounds in wines and heightened color intensity. Moreover, tandem mass spectrometry analysis unveiled higher concentrations of key compounds such as petunidin-3-glucoside, malvidin-3-glucoside, procyanidin B1, quercetin-3-glucoside, cis -resveratrol, and piceatannol in the resultant wines. Endometriosis is a condition that is influenced by hormones and involves stroma and glands being found outside the uterus; there are increases in proliferation, invasion, internal bleeding, and fibrosis. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) have been suggested to be crucial in the progression of invasion. The MMP family includes calcium-dependent zinc-containing endopeptidases, some of which not only affect the process of cell invasion but also participate in other physiological and pathological processes, such as angiogenesis and fibrosis. MMPs act as downstream-targeted molecules and their expression can be regulated by numerous factors such as estrogen, oxidative stress, cytokines, and environmental contaminants. Given their unique roles in endometriosis, MMPs may become effective biomarkers of endometriosis in the future. In the present review, we summarize the current literature on MMPs regarding their classification, function, and potential value for endometriosis, which may contribute to our knowledge of MMPs and MMP-targeted interventions. Objective: To evaluate whether hysteroscopic septoplasty should be performed in all women diagnosed with subseptate uterus.Methods: In a prospective study, 138 patients diagnosed with subseptate uterus at the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University, Nanning, China, were enrolled between January 1, 2006, and March 1, 2011, and reproductive outcomes were compared among women who did and those who did not undergo hysteroscopic resection. Women were divided in 2 groups: group A comprised women with a history of recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA), and was subdivided into control (A1) and surgery (A2) groups; group B comprised women with no history of poor reproductive outcomes, and was subdivided into control (B1) and surgery (B2) groups.Results: The rates of pregnancy and term delivery were higher in group A2 than in group A1 (P<0.05). The incidence of RSA and preterm delivery was higher in group A1 than in group A2 (P<0.05). There was no difference in pregnancy rate, incidence of RSA, or preterm or term delivery between group B1 and group B2.Conclusion: Hysteroscopic septoplasty significantly improved pregnancy outcomes in women with a history of RSA, but did not influence reproductive outcomes in women with no history of poor pregnancy outcomes. Background: The gold standard for the diagnosis of central precocious puberty (CPP) is gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) or GnRH analogs (GnRHa) stimulation test. But the stimulation test is time-consuming and costly. Our objective was to develop a risk score model readily adoptable by clinicians and patients. Methods: A cross-sectional study based on the electronic medical record system was conducted in the Children's Hospital, Fudan University, Shanghai, China from January 2010 to August 2016. Patients with precocious puberty were randomly split into the training (n = 314) and validation (n = 313) sample. In the training sample, variables associated with CPP (P < 0.2) in univariate analyses were introduced in a multivariable logistic regression model. Prediction model was selected using a forward stepwise analysis. A risk score model was built with the scaled coefficients of the model and tested in the validation sample. Results: CPP was diagnosed in 54.8% (172/314) and 55.0% (172/313) of patients in the training and validation sample, respectively. The CPP risk score model included age at the onset of puberty, basal luteinizing hormone (LH) concentration, largest ovarian volume, and uterine volume. The C-index was 0.85 (95% CI: 0.81–0.89) and 0.86 (95% CI: 0.82–0.90) in the training and the validation sample, respectively. Two cut-off points were selected to delimitate a low- (< 10 points), median- (10–19 points), and high-risk (≥ 20 points) group. Conclusions: A risk score model for the risk of CPP had a moderate predictive performance, which offers the advantage of helping evaluate the requirement for further diagnostic tests (GnRH or GnRHa stimulation test). Nitrogen (N) fertilization is important for grape growth and wine quality. Unreasonable N fertilizer application affects wine growth and has a negative impact on wine quality. Therefore, it is essential to address the mismatch between N application and wine composition. To regulate vine growth and improve grape and wine quality, Cabernet Gernischt (Vitis vinifera L.) grapevines were subjected to lower levels of N, compared to normal N supply treatments, during the grape growing seasons of 2019 and 2020 in the wine region of Yantai, China. The effects of reduced N application from pre-boom to pre-veraison on vine growth, yield and composition of grapes, and dry red wine anthocyanin and non-anthocyanin phenolic compound content were studied. We found that reduced N application significantly decreased dormant shoot fresh mass and yield. However, the effect of N application on fruit ripening depended on the season. Nitrogen-reduction treatment significantly improved wine phenolic parameters, including total phenolics, tannins, and anthocyanins, and enhanced most of the individual anthocyanins and some non-anthocyanin phenolics, especially stilbenes, including piceatannol, trans -resveratrol, and polydatin, regardless of the season. Problem: Endometriosis (EMS) is a chronic inflammatory disease with unclear pathogenesis. Three studies have uncovered the influence of gut microbiota on mice with EMS, but no study has investigated the characteristics of fecal metabolomics to determine some important clues on EMS. This research aims to uncover the interaction between fecal metabolomics and gut microbiota in EMS mice. Method of study: Female C57BL/6J mice were used to construct the EMS model. Non‐target metabolomics was applied to detect the fecal metabolites of EMS mice. The 16s rRNA sequencing was used for clarifying the composition of the gut microbiota. The functional characteristics of gut microbiota were analyzed using the PICRUSt. The receiver operator characteristic curve (ROC) analysis was utilized for determining the potential important differential metabolites, and the Spearman correlation coefficient was applied for expressing the correlation between the important differential metabolites and gut microbiota. Results: A total of 156 named differential metabolites were screened. The diversity and the abundance of gut microbiota in EMS mice decreased. Eleven pathways were involved in the differential metabolites and the functional prediction of gut microbiota, among which the second bile acid biosynthesis and alpha‐linolenic acid (ALA) metabolism were the significant enrichment pathways. The increased abundance of chenodeoxycholic and ursodeoxycholic acids and the decreased abundance of ALA and 12,13‐EOTrE were found in the feces of EMS mice. Conclusion: The abnormal fecal metabolites, which are influenced by dysbacteriosis, may be the characteristics of EMS mice and can be the potential important indices to distinguish the disease. Succinate is an important intermediate of the tricarboxylic acid cycle. Recently discovered roles of succinate demonstrate its involvement in immunity and cancer biology; however, the precise underlying mechanisms of its involvement in these additional roles remain to be determined. In the present study, succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) B was decreased in uterine endometrial cancer cells (UECC) under negative regulation of estrogen. This decrease was the result of lower expression levels of ubiquitin C (UBC), which was associated with the activation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma and specificity protein 1. The decreased levels of SDHB resulted in the accumulation of succinate in UECC, and thus, a decrease in the production of fumaric acid. Succinate downregulated voltage-gated potassium channel subfamily Q member 1 (KCNQ1) levels by activating serum/glucocorticoid regulated kinase 1 and promoted the growth of UECC in vitro and in vivo. Treatment with melatonin restricted estrogen/UBC/SDHB-induced succinate accumulation and upregulated expression of KCNQ1 and reduced the succinate-mediated growth of UECC in vitro and in vivo. Furthermore, overexpression of melatonin receptor 1B amplified the inhibitory effects of melatonin on succinate-mediated UECC growth. Together, the data in the present study suggest that melatonin suppresses UECC progression by inhibiting estrogen/UBC/SDHB-induced succinate accumulation. The present study provides a scientific basis for potential therapeutic strategies and targets in UEC, particularly for patients with abnormally low levels of SDHB. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) hydrogels have been widely used in synthetic cartilage materials. However, limitations of PVA hydrogels such as poor biomechanics and limited cell ingrowth remain challenges in this field. Methods: This work aimed to design novel nano-hydroxyapatite (nano-HA)/poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) hydrogels coated with a poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA)/nano-HA/PVA scaffold to counter the limitations of PVA hydrogels. The core, comprising nano-HA/PVA hydrogel, had the primary role of bearing the mechanical load. The peripheral structure, composed of PLGA/nano-HA/PVA, was designed to favor interaction with surrounding cartilage. Results: The double-layer HA/PVA hydrogel coated with PLGA/HA/PVA scaffold was successfully prepared using a two-step molding method, and the mechanical properties and biocompatibility were characterized. The mechanical properties of the novel PLGA/HA/PVA scaffold modified HA/PVA hydrogel were similar to those of native cartilage and showed greater sensitivity to compressive stress than to tensile stress. Rabbit chondrocytes were seeded in the composites to assess the biocompatibility and practicability in vitro. The results showed that the peripheral component comprising 30 wt% PLGA/5 wt% HA/15 wt% PVA was most conducive to rabbit chondrocyte adhesion and proliferation. Conclusions: The study indicated that the double-layer HA/PVA hydrogel coated with PLGA/HA/PVA scaffold has the potential for cartilage repair. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
