ObjectiveThe 2-fold objective of this research is to investigate machine learning's (ML) predictive value for the incidence of depression among China's older adult population and to determine the noteworthy aspects resulting in depression.MethodsThis research selected 7,880 older adult people by utilizing data from the 2020 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study. Thereafter, the dataset was classified into training and testing sets at a 6:4 ratio. Six ML algorithms, namely, logistic regression, k-nearest neighbors, support vector machine, decision tree, LightGBM, and random forest, were used in constructing a predictive model for depression among the older adult. To compare the differences in the ROC curves of the different models, the Delong test was conducted. Meanwhile, to evaluate the models' performance, this research performed decision curve analysis (DCA). Thereafter, the Shapely Additive exPlanations values were utilized for model interpretation on the bases of the prediction results' substantial contributions.ResultsThe range of the area under the curve (AUC) of each model's ROC curves was 0.648–0.738, with significant differences (P < 0.01). The DCA results indicate that within various probability thresholds, LightGBM's net benefit was the highest. Self-rated health, nighttime sleep, gender, age, and cognitive function are the five most important characteristics of all models in terms of predicting the occurrence of depression.ConclusionThe occurrence of depression among China's older adult population and the critical factors leading to depression can be predicted and identified, respectively, by ML algorithms.

Abstract Schwannomas, which are benign, are one of the most common intraspinal tumors, accounting for 29% of primary spinal tumors. Schwannomas have several other names, including neurinoma, neurilemmoma, and neuroma. They originate from Schwann cells, which were first described by Theodor Schwann, a German physiologist, biologist, and histologist. Here, we present a patient with a giant, thoracic, dumbbell‐shaped schwannoma. This benign tumor protruded into the subcutaneous fascial layer, compressing the pleura and the left side of the thoracic spinal cord. Additionally, some of the spinous processes and laminae of the thoracic vertebrae were missing. Most patients with this type of tumor are asymptomatic; however, up to 11.7% of patients have symptoms that depend on the size and location of the tumor. Magnetic resonance imaging can accurately determine the extent of the tumor and any intraspinal component and is thus helpful in selecting the optimal surgical procedure.

This study aims to determine the ultrastructural changes in collagen fibrils in rabbit conjunctiva after conjunctival crosslinking using riboflavin and ultraviolet A (UVA) light at an irradiation intensity of 45 mW/cm2. Conjunctival crosslinking may increase conjunctival stiffness. The supertemporal quadrants of the right eyes of 24 adult rabbits were treated with a topical riboflavin solution (0.25%) before irradiation with UVA light at 45 mW/cm2 for 4 min. After 3 weeks, the collagen fibrils in fibril bundles were examined by electron microscopy. Immunohistochemical staining was used to detect the expression levels of collagen I and collagen III in the rabbits’ conjunctiva. The diameter of the collagen fibrils in the fibril bundles varied slightly, ranging from 30 to 60 nm in the conjunctival stroma of the control group. In the treatment group, the diameter of collagen fibrils ranged from 60 to 90 nm. The thickest collagen fibrils were observed in the treatment group (up to 90 nm in diameter). In contrast, those in the conjunctival stroma of the control group were considerably smaller (up to 60 nm in diameter). However, thicknesses of collagen fibrils displayed a unimodal distribution. Both collagen I and collagen III increased after treatment with riboflavin and UVA light irradiation at 45 mW/cm2. The data indicate that in rabbits, conjunctival crosslinking with riboflavin and UVA light at 45 mW/cm2 for 4 min is safe and does not induce ultrastructural alterations of the conjunctival cells. The conjunctival crosslinking with riboflavin and UVA light at 45 mW/cm2 can increase the diameter of collagen fibrils, but the average densities of collagen I and collagen III have no statistical significance.

In the field of finding ground and excited states, where quantum computation holds significant promise, using a variational quantum eigensolver (VQE) is a typical approach. However, the success of this approach is vulnerable to two factors: classical optimization for the ansätz parameters and noise from quantum devices. To address these challenges, we adopted particle swarm optimization (PSO) based on swarm intelligence for VQE and presented its performance. Furthermore, a modified PSO, gradient-based adaptive quantum-behaved particle swarm optimization (GAQPSO), is proposed. This algorithm adaptively upgrades parameters based on gradients or shared information within the swarm, enhancing optimization capability and noise resistance. We tested this algorithm using VQE simulations on several molecular systems with different geometries and found that, when using random initial values, GAQPSO achieves accurate results even in the presence of noise, whereas traditional PSO, QPSO, COBYLA, and gradient-based algorithms (GD and L-BFGS-B) fail. The GAQPSO algorithm presents a novel approach to optimizing VQE, demonstrating superior performance in parameter optimization and noise resilience compared to traditional optimization algorithms. Quantum simulation of chemical Hamiltonians enables the efficient calculation of chemical properties. Mapping is one of the essential steps in simulating fermionic systems on quantum computers. In this work, a unified framework of transformations mapping fermionic systems to qubit systems is presented and many existing transformations—such as Jordan–Wigner, Bravyi–Kitaev, and parity transformations—are included in this framework. Based on this framework, the Multilayer Segmented Parity (MSP) transformation is proposed. The MSP transformation is a general mapping with an adjustable parameter vector, which can be viewed as a generalization of the above-mentioned mappings. Furthermore, the MSP transformation can adjust flexibly when dealing with different systems. Applying these mappings to the electronic structure Hamiltonians of various molecules, the MSP transformation is found to perform better on a number of Pauli operators and gates needed in the circuit of Hamiltonian simulation. The MSP transformation will reduce the qubit gate requirement for Hamiltonian simulation on noisy intermediate-scale quantum devices, and it will provide a much wider choice of mappings for researchers. For various heavy - load, high - speed and low - speed plain bearings, burning and failure of Babbitt alloy due to the instability of the lubricating oil film is very common. Through the surface oil film analysis, surface crack morphology observation, chemical composition inspection, cross - section metallographic structure inspection and energy dispersive spectrum analysis of the failed Babbitt alloy on the surface of a bearing bush, it was found that the carbon deposition on the surface of Babbitt alloy caused uneven stress distribution on it. And plastic flow occurred on the surface of Babbitt alloy under the action of friction, forming macroscopic friction marks. And the cracking occurred in the repair welding area of Babbitt alloy with low hardness and welding defects, and propagated along the direction of layer depth. In addition, the acidic solution formed due to the high content of Na+ and water in the oil film on the surface of Babbitt alloy led to an electrochemical corrosion of Babbitt alloy which then resulted in corrosion pits.

An efficient method has been developed to facilitate the addition‐ring opening cascade reaction of vinylogous oxindole, resulting in the synthesis of a variety of aza‐bicyclic maleimide derivatives with high yields and exceptional diastereoselectivities. Furthermore, the product could be effectively and easily transformed into the difluoromethylenecyclohexane skeleton through a dehydrofluorination process. This methodology demonstrates significant potential for the synthesis of aza‐bicyclic maleimide skeleton, which possesses biological or pharmaceutical activity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Titanium dioxide nanotube arrays (TiO2 NTAs) have attracted much interest due to their unique highly ordered array structure, outstanding properties, and potential applications in photo/photoelectrocatalytic degradation of pollutants, hydrogen production, supercapacitors, dye-sensitized solar cells, sensors, and biomedical devices. It has been fabricated via a facile electrochemical anodic oxidation of Ti substrate in fluoride-containing electrolytes. Combined with our previous work, we comprehensively review the recent progress of TiO2 TNAs on the synthesis processes, forming mechanism, and modification used to improve the photoelectric properties. In addition, this article summarizes some of the recent advances on the photo/photoelectrocatalytic degradation of pollutants. Besides, other applications and the future development of TiO2 TNAs are also briefly discussed and addressed.

【Abstract】Hoffa fracture associated with ipsilateral femoral shaft fracture is very rare. Three cases of this rare type of injury were retrospectively reviewed. The sites of femoral shaft fractures and Hoffa fractures were documented. All femoral shaft fractures were managed with internal fixation. The rate of misdiagnosis for the Hoffa fractures was documented. Functions of the affected knees were evaluated according to the modified Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) scores at two years follow-up. Femoral fractures were either transverse or composite in all three cases. Ipsilateral Hoffa fractures occurred at medial condyle in two cases, and lateral condyle in one case. Only one Hoffa fracture was identified preoperatively. All the femoral shaft fractures healed uneventfully. In the patient whose Hoffa fracture was correctly diagnosed, the modified HSS score was 94. In another patient, whose Hoffa fracture was treated by a second operation, the modified HSS score was 93. And in the third case, who refused additional operation for the Hoffa fracture, the modified HSS score was only 70. Conclusively femoral shaft fracture can be associated with ipsilateral Hoffa fracture, especially in motorcycle accident. This type of injury is very rare and misdiagnosis is common. The structure of nonionic surfactants was reviewed; the types of nonionic surfactants at present, such as polyoxyethylene ether type, polyol type, polyether type and nitrogen-containing type, were summarized, and their synthesis methods, characteristics and development status were introduced. The application fields of different types of surfactants were analyzed and compared; the market development of non-ionic surfactant in recent years is described. Its industrial scale is developing rapidly with the increase of the demand for surfactant in China, and the synthesis method is also developing towards the green and emerging direction; finally, the deficiencies in the current layout of the non-ionic surfactant industry are put forward, and the future research directions are prospected in order to provide a reference for the healthy development of the non-ionic surfactant industry.
