It is usually assumed that the memory of any thermo-mechanical protocol applied to a glass can be erased by heating the material in the supercooled liquid. While this is true for thermally treated amorphous solids, we show that hydrostatic compression can irreversibly modify the atomic motion, thermodynamic state and structure of a prototypical metallic glass-former, in a way which depends on the degree of ergodicity reached by the material during compression. While enhanced kinetic and thermodynamic stability can be obtained by quenching the dense liquid, high-pressure annealing in the glass leads to thermal rejuvenation and complex structural rearrangements at the level of the short and medium range order. When heated above their glass transition temperature, these compressed glasses do not convert into the pristine supercooled liquid but rather transform into different systems, challenging the generally accepted idea of an equilibrium recovery controlled solely by the microscopic $\alpha$-relaxation process.

Relaxation dynamics, as a key to understand glass formation and glassy properties, remains an elusive and challenging issue in condensed matter physics. In this work, in situ high-pressure synchrotron high-energy x-ray photon correlation spectroscopy has been developed to probe the atomic-scale relaxation dynamics of a cerium-based metallic glass during compression. Although the sample density continuously increases, the collective atomic motion initially slows down as generally expected and then counter-intuitively accelerates with further compression (density increase), showing an unusual non-monotonic pressure-induced steady relaxation dynamics crossover at ~3 GPa. Furthermore, by combining in situ high-pressure synchrotron x-ray diffraction, the relaxation dynamics anomaly is evidenced to closely correlate with the dramatic changes in local atomic structures during compression, rather than monotonically scaling with either sample density or overall stress level. Recently, evidence for a conducting surface state below 19 K was reported for the correlated d-electron small gap semiconductor FeSi. In the work reported herein, the conducting surface state and the bulk phase of FeSi were probed via electrical resistivity measurements as a function of temperature T, magnetic field B to 60 T and pressure P to 7.6 GPa, and by means of a magnetic field modulated microwave spectroscopy (MFMMS) technique. The properties of FeSi were also compared to those of the Kondo insulator SmB6 to address the question of whether FeSi is a d-electron analogue of an f-electron Kondo insulator and, in addition, a topological Kondo insulator. The overall behavior of the magnetoresistance MR of FeSi at temperatures above and below the onset temperature (T_S) 19 K of the conducting surface state is similar to that of SmB6. The two energy gaps, inferred from the resistivity data in the semiconducting regime, increase with pressure up to about 7 GPa, followed by a drop which coincides with a sharp suppression of T_S. This behavior is similar to that reported for SmB6, except that the two energy gaps in SmB6 decrease with pressure before dropping abruptly at T_S. The MFMMS measurements showed a sharp feature at T_S (19 K) for FeSi, but no such feature was observed at T_S 4.5 K for SmB6. The absence of a feature at T_S for SmB6 may be due to experimental issues and will be the subject of a future investigation.

This paper tries to discuss two strategies of dealing with this complex passenger demand from two aspects: transit train formation and real-time holding control. The genetic algorithm (GA) is designed to solve the integrated two-stage model of optimizing the number, timetable and real-time holding control of the multi-marshalling operated trains. We report the first observation of the periodical properties for Talbot effect with {\pi} phase jump. Analytical expressions are derived from simplified modal method to analyze the novelty phenomenon of the Talbot effect with {\pi} phase jump, which can deepen our understanding of physical diffraction process. Importantly, the physical reason of {\pi} phase jump can be attributed to that the two even grating modes make the left derivative and right derivative of real part of the E1 opposite in sign, which results in the physical information of first order diffractive wave hidden in the near field Talbot effect image.
