Previous studies reported mixed findings on autistic individuals' pitch perception relative to neurotypical (NT) individuals. We investigated whether this may be partly due to individual differences in cognitive abilities by comparing their performance on various pitch perception tasks on a large sample (n = 164) of autistic and NT children and adults. Our findings revealed that: (i) autistic individuals either showed similar or worse performance than NT individuals on the pitch tasks; (ii) cognitive abilities were associated with some pitch task performance; and (iii) cognitive abilities modulated the relationship between autism diagnosis and pitch perception on some tasks. Our findings highlight the importance of taking an individual differences approach to understand the strengths and weaknesses of pitch processing in autism.

Are children from "Eastern" cultures less emotionally expressive and reactive than children from "Western" cultures? To answer this, we used a multi-level and multi-contextual approach to understand variations in emotion displays and cortisol reactivity among preschoolers living in China and the United States. One hundred two preschoolers from China (N = 58; 55% males) and the United States (N = 44, 48% males) completed three (i.e., control, interpersonal-related, and achievement-related) emotion-challenging paradigms over 3 days. Behavioral emotion expressions were coded, and salivary cortisol was sampled 30 minutes before and across 90 minutes post-task. Without considering context, Chinese preschoolers displayed fewer levels of positive and negative emotion expressions relative to their United States counterparts. However, Chinese preschoolers displayed similar levels of expressions as their United States counterparts during an achievement-related challenge that is more salient to their sociocultural emphases and showed higher negative emotion expressions in this challenge, relative to other contexts. Moreover, only the achievement-related challenge elicited increased cortisol levels among Chinese preschoolers, and this was correlated with higher levels of negative expressions. For US preschoolers, no cortisol increase was observed in any challenging paradigms, nor was cortisol associated with emotional expressions. Findings counter prior notions that East Asian children are generally less emotionally expressive. Instead, an achievement-related challenge elicited higher emotion expression and cortisol reactivity among Chinese preschoolers, suggesting that children's emotion expression and biological reactivity may be most responsive to contexts salient to their socio-cultural environments. We discuss the importance of considering cultural contexts when studying emotion regulation.

Medical communication skills are widely recognized as important, especially for situations in which providers must present complex and detailed information. Although much research focuses on how providers can improve their delivery of medical information, an equally important part of communication is supporting patient retention of the information. We present several methods to improve patient retention of medical information that we have found successful in an allergic contact dermatitis clinic. Some recommendations address information transfer (follow effective structure, teach to different learning styles, provide written instructions, employ the teach-back method). Other methods are effective, focusing on the patient's emotional, social, and relational needs (include storytelling, metaphor, and analogy, allay negative emotions, listen deeply/know your patient). This list is not exhaustive, but we have found these methods effective when counseling patients with allergic contact dermatitis. Patient retention of medical information is an important part of effective health care, benefits both the provider and the patient, and is applicable to every medical practice.

Abstract Background Aphis gossypii (Hemiptera: Aphididae) is a worldwide polyphagous phloem-feeding agricultural pest, and it can produce offspring by sexual or asexual reproduction. Compared with dozens of generations by parthenogenesis, sexual reproduction is performed in only one generation within one year, and little is known about the sexual reproduction of A. gossypii. In this study, sexual females of A. gossypii were successfully obtained through a previously established induction platform, and the morphological characteristics, developmental dynamics, and temporal gene expression were examined. Subsequently, signaling pathways potentially involved in regulating the growth, development, and reproduction of sexual females were investigated. Results The morphological observation showed that from the 1st instar nymph to adult, sexual females exhibited a gradually deepened body color, an enlarged body size, longer antennae with a blackened end, and obviously protruding cauda (in adulthood). The anatomy found that the ovaries of sexual females developed rapidly from the 2nd instar nymph, and the embedded oocytes matured in adulthood. In addition, time-course transcriptome analysis revealed that gene expression profiles across the development of sexual females fell into 9 clusters with distinct patterns, in which gene expression levels in clusters 1, 5, and 8 peaked at the 2nd instar nymphal stage with the largest number of up-regulated genes, suggesting that the 2nd instar nymph was an important ovary development period. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analysis revealed that a large number of genes in the sexual female adult were enriched in the TGF-beta signaling pathway and Forkhead box O (FoxO) signaling pathway, highlighting their important role in sexual female adult development and reproduction. Conclusion The morphological changes of the sexual female at each developmental stage were revealed for the first time. In addition, time-course transcriptomic analyses suggest genes enriched in the TGF-beta signaling pathway and FoxO signaling pathway probably contribute to regulating the development and oocyte maturation of sexual females. Overall, these findings will facilitate the regulating mechanism research in the growth and development of sexual females by providing candidate genes.

Abstract Background Postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) is an ordinary complication of surgery, particularly cardiac surgery. It significantly increases in-hospital mortality and costs. This study aimed to establish a nomogram prediction model for POAF in patients undergoing laparotomy. The model is expected to identify individuals at a high risk of POAF before surgery in clinical practice. Methods A retrospective observational case–control study involving 230 adult patients (60 patients with POAF, 120 patients in the control group, and 50 patients in the validation group) who underwent laparotomy was retrieved from two hospitals. Independent risk variables for POAF were investigated using logistic regression and the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression analysis. Subsequently, a nomogram model for POAF was constructed by multivariate logistic regression equations. The prediction model was internally validated by bootstrap method and externally validated with the validation group data. To assess the discriminative ability of the nomogram model, a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was generated and a calibration curve was employed to assess the concentricity between the model’s probability curve and the ideal curve. Subsequently, decision curve analysis (DCA) was performed to assess the clinical effectiveness of the model. Results C-reactive protein (CRP), lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio(LMR), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and Macruz index were independent risk variables for POAF in patients who underwent laparotomy. A user-friendly and efficient prediction nomogram was visualized using R software. This nomogram exhibited strong discrimination, as evidenced by an area under the ROC curve (AUC) of 0.90 (95% CI 0.8509–0.9488) for the training set, 0.86 (95% CI 0.7142–1) for the test set, and 0.9792 (95% CI 0.9293–1) for the validation group data. The C-index of the bootstrap nomogram model was 0.8998. Furthermore, DCA revealed that this model displayed excellent fit and calibration, as well as positive net benefits. Conclusions A nomogram prediction model was constructed for POAF in patients who underwent abdominal surgery. The nomogram prediction model is expected to identify individuals at high risk of POAF in clinical practice for prophylactic therapeutic intervention prior to surgery.

Background: In the Chinese coal industry, widespread blame avoidance behavior (BAB) greatly impacts coal mine accidents. Therefore, it is necessary to stop the BAB of coal mine managers and raise the management level of coal mine enterprises for the safe development of Chinese coal industry. Methods: Based on the semi-structured interviews and questionnaire surveys (20 middle-level managers in coal mines), this paper used the Grounded Theory and Nvivo Software qualitative research methodology to open, spindle, and selectively encode the interview data. Then, an index system of factors influencing BAB of coal mine managers was constructed. The influence degree, affected degree, centrality degree, cause degree of each influencing factor were calculated and the hierarchical model of influencing factors of BAB of coal mine managers was established by the DEMATEL-ISM method which is a decision support tool used to evaluate and analyze the interdependencies between influencing factors. Results: Index system of factors influencing BAB of coal mine managers included four levels and 12 influencing factors: individual, organizational, institutional environmental, and situational factors. The hierarchical model identified eight causal factors and four consequential factors, of which safety management (15.355), work attitude (14.380), and work group performance (14.281) in the top three of the centrality rankings are the key factors affecting the avoidance behavior of coal mine managers; A 3-level multilevel structure was constructed to reflect the interactions among the factors influencing the BAB of coal mine managers in terms of direct, indirect, and root causes, and corresponding improvement measures were proposed. Conclusion: This study offers a theoretical complement and practical guidance for stopping BAB of coal mine managers.

The treatment strategy for blast injuries is closely linked to the clinical outcome of blast injury casualties. However, the application of military surgery experience to blast injuries caused by production safety accidents is relatively uncommon. In this study, the authors present 2 cases of blast injuries caused by one gas explosion, both cases involved individuals of the same age and gender and experienced similar degree of injury. The authors highlight the importance of using a military surgery treatment strategy, specifically emphasizing the need to understand the concept of damage control and disposal. It is recommended that relevant training in this area should be strengthened to improve the clinical treatment of such injuries. This study provides a valuable reference for healthcare professionals dealing with blast injuries.

Purpose: Although traditional craniotomy (TC) surgery has failed to show benefits for the functional outcome of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). However, a minimally invasive hematoma removal plan to avoid white matter fiber damage may be a safer and more feasible surgical approach, which may improve the prognosis of ICH. We conducted a historical cohort study on the use of multimodal image fusion-assisted neuroendoscopic surgery (MINS) for the treatment of ICH, and compared its safety and effectiveness with traditional methods. Methods: This is a historical cohort study involving 241 patients with cerebral hemorrhage. Divided into MINS group and TC group based on surgical methods. Multimodal images (CT skull, CT angiography, and white matter fiber of MRI diffusion-tensor imaging) were fused into 3 dimensional images for preoperative planning and intraoperative guidance of endoscopic hematoma removal in the MINS group. Clinical features, operative efficiency, perioperative complications, and prognoses between 2 groups were compared. Normally distributed data were analyzed using t-test of 2 independent samples, Non-normally distributed data were compared using the Kruskal-Wallis test. Meanwhile categorical data were analyzed via the Chi-square test or Fisher’s exact test. All statistical tests were two-sided, and p < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. The complexity of wound healing, influenced by both external factors and internal pathological mechanisms, presents a significant challenge in clinical treatment. However, strategically designed micro-nano structured scaffolds show great potential in enhancing wound healing. This article reviews groundbreaking research on ordered micro-nano structures for wound repair and tissue regeneration, highlighting their crucial roles in regulating cell behavior, promoting cell differentiation, balancing the immune microenvironment, and providing antibacterial properties. Subsequently, we provide a detailed overview of advanced technologies used to fabricate these precision structures, including template replication, electrospinning, microfluidics, and 3D printing. Finally, we discuss the challenges and future directions for developing finely structured materials, considering both the current achievements and existing limitations.

Objective This trial was conducted to explore the impact of different wilting time of Italian ryegrass (IRG) in the field on the nutritional quality and fermentation characteristics of its silage. Objectives: To address the lack of research on the prevalence of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CREs) in Xinjiang, China, and elucidate the genomic characteristics of carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP) ST11-KL30. Methods: CREs were collected in Xinjiang from 2021 to 2023. The antimicrobial susceptibility testing of carbapenems was performed via agar dilution method. Whole-genome sequencing was completed on the Illumina platform, and subsequent genomic analyses of CRKP, such as sequencing typing, K-locus and O-locus identification, virulence score assessment, and phylogenetic analysis, were performed. The virulence of CRKP isolates was determined in vitro and in vivo, and biofilm formation was assessed by crystal violet staining. Additionally, the virulence plasmid was reconstructed, and the formation of CRKP ST11-KL30 was revealed based on genome data from public database. Results: Eighty-five CRE isolates were collected, among which CRKP was most prevalent (68/85). KPC was the most dominant carbapenemase (60/68) in CRKP, while NDM-type carbapenemase was more prevalent in other species. ST11 was the dominant CRKP clone and was phylogenetically divided into three clusters: ST11-KL64, ST11-KL47 and ST11-KL30. CRKP ST11-KL30 is a novel recombinant clone that harbours a pK2044-like virulence plasmid and can be derived from ST11-KL64 by obtaining an ∼57 kb region from ST29-KL30. Compared to ST11-KL47 and ST11-KL64, ST11-KL30 had lower virulence, but had enhanced biofilm formation. Conclusions: We describe the prevalence of CRE prevalence southern Xinjiang and report the emergence of a region-specific clone. Our findings underscore the potential dissemination of ST11-KL30, which warrants increased monitoring in the future.

Excessive underground train-induced vibration becomes a serious environmental problem in cities. To investigate the vibration transfer from an underground train to a building nearby, an explicit-integration time-domain, three-dimensional finite element model is developed. The underground train, track, tunnel, soil layers and a typical multi-story building nearby are all fully coupled in this model. The complex geometries involving the track components and the building are all modelled in detail, which makes the simulation of vibration transfer more realistic from the underground train to the building. The model is validated with in-situ tests data and good agreements have been achieved between the numerical results and the experimental results both in time domain and frequency domain. The proposed model is applied to investigate the vibration transfer along the floors in the building and the influences of the soil stiffness on the vibration characteristics of the track-tunnel-soil-building system. It is found that the building vibration induced by an underground train is dominant at the frequency determined by the P2 resonance and influenced by the vibration modes of the building. The vertical vibration in the building decreases in a fluctuant pattern from the foundation to the top floor due to loss of high frequency contents and local modes. The vibration levels in different rooms at a same floor can be different due to the different local stiffness. A room with larger space thus smaller local stiffness usually has higher vibration level. Softer soil layers make the tunnel lining and the building have more low frequency vibration. The influence of the soil stiffness on the amplification scale along the floors of the building is found to be nonlinear and frequency-dependent, which needs to be further investigated.

Context Pileostegia tomentella Hand. Mazz (Saxifragaceae) total coumarins (TCPT) show antitumour activity in colorectal cancer (CRC) with unknown mechanism of action. Tumour angiogenesis mediated by exosomes-derived miRNA exhibits the vital regulation of endothelial cell function in metastasis of CRC.Objective To investigate the effect of TCPT on exosomal miRNA expression and angiogenesis of CRC cells.Materials and methods HT-29-derived exosomes were generated from human CRC cells (HT-29) or either treated with TCPT (100 μg/mL) for 24 h, followed by identification by transmission electron microscope, nanoparticle tracking analysis (NTA) and Western blot. Co-culture experiments for human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and exosomes were performed to detect the uptake of exosomes in HUVECs and its influence on HUVECs cells migration and lumen formation ability. Potential target miRNAs in exosomes were screened out by sequencing technology. Rescue assays of angiogenesis were performed by the transfecting mimics or inhibitors of targeted miRNA into HUVECs.Results HT-29-derived exosomes, after TCPT treatment (Exo-TCPT), inhibited the migration and lumen formation of HUVECs, reduced the expression levels of vascular marker (FLT-1, VCAM-1 and VEGFR-2) in HUVECs. Furthermore, the level of miR-375-3p was significantly upregulated in Exo-TCPT. Rescue assays showed that high expression of miR-375-3p in HUVECs inhibited migration and lumen formation abilities, which was consistent with the effects of Exo-TCPT, whereas applying miR-375-3p inhibitors displayed opposite effects.Discussion and conclusion TCPT exhibits anti-angiogenesis in CRC, possibly through upregulating exosomal miR-375-3p. Our findings will shed light on new target exosomes miRNA-mediated tumour microenvironment and the therapeutic application of Pileostegia tomentella in CRC.

Mastering the changes in the planting area of crops are critical for formulating sustainable agricultural development strategies. The Landsat 9 satellite provides continuous observational data for crop mapping. It is necessary to evaluate the potential of Landsat 9 images for canola mapping. According to literatures, some canola indices have been proposed in relation to the spectral features of the yellow canola flower, such as the canola ratio index (CRI), normalised difference yellowness index (NDYI), canola index (CI), canola flower index (CFI), normalised difference rapeseed flower index (NRFI) and winter rapeseed index (WRI). However, it is unclear which index has more potential to extract canola based on the Landsat 9 images. Therefore, the potentials of these indices for canola mapping were quantitatively compared by using different classification methods including supervised and unsupervised classification methods. For supervised classification methods and the CFI, the overall accuracy of canola mapping was above 90% and the kappa coefficient was above 0.8. For unsupervised classification methods, CFI also performs best. It was demonstrated that the CFI outperformed the other five indices for canola mapping. It was also confirmed that Landsat 9 images and the CFI exhibit promising potential for canola mapping via quantitative comparison.

Background/Aims: N-Methyl-N’-nitroso-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG) is suspected to increase the risk of developing stomach cancer. Folic acid (FA) is familiar with decreasing inflammation. We expected that FA would protect against MNNG-induced gastric mucosal injury. Materials and Methods: Thirty 12-week-old SPF-grade female Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were treated with MNNG and given different dosages of FA as an intervention measure. Quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) was used to analyze the expression of IL-1, IL-6, IL-8, IL-18, TNF-α, NLRP3, ASC, and caspase-1 genes. The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was utilized for the identification of inflammatory cytokines. Western blot was accustomed to detecting IL-1β, IL-18, and NLRP3 inflammatory vesicles in gastric tissue. Furthermore, the gastric mucosal tissues underwent histological examination. Results: Our investigation demonstrated that FA reduced MNNG-induced inflammatory factor increase by decreasing NF-κB signaling (P < .05). Furthermore, FA prevented the MNNG-induced upregulation of NLRP3 inflammasome-related genes and proteins (all P < .01). Conclusion: Our data imply that MNNG exposure stimulates the NF-κB/NLRP3 pathway, while FA suppresses it, limiting stomach mucosal inflammation.

Manufacturing cost-effective electrolytes featuring high (electro)chemical stability, high Zn anode reversibility, good ionic conductivity, and environmental benignity is highly desired for rechargeable aqueous zinc-based energy storage devices but remains a great challenge. Herein, a solute-solvent dual engineering strategy using lithium bis(trifluoromethane)sulfonimide (LiTFSI) and inexpensive poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG, Mn = 200) as a coadditive with an optimized ratio accomplished an all-round performance enhancement of electrolytes. Due to the synergistic inhibition of water activity and Zn2+ solvation structure reorganization by LiTFSI-PEG, as well as a stable F-rich interfacial layer and PEG adsorption on the Zn anode surface, dendrite-free Zn plating/stripping at nearly 100% Coulombic efficiency and stable cycling performance over 2000 h at 0.5 mA cm−2 was achieved. Importantly, the integrated Zn-ion hybrid supercapacitors are endowed with a wide voltage window of 0–2.2 V, superb cycling stability up to 10,000 cycles, and excellent temperature adaptability from -40 °C to 50 °C. The highest cutoff voltage reached 2.1 V in Zn//LiMn2O4 and Zn//VOPO4 full cells with a stable lifespan over 500 cycles. This work provides a promising strategy for the development of aqueous electrolytes with excellent comprehensive properties for zinc-based energy storage.

Abstract Aiming to address the shortcomings of existing semi-active control algorithms with poor robustness and the limited generalization ability of current evaluation methods based on deterministic analysis, a novel approach based on probability density evolution is proposed. This method is designed to assess the seismic reliability, enabling a more comprehensive evaluation of the control effectiveness of aqueduct structures. Building upon this, an intelligent semi-active control algorithm leveraging machine learning is introduced. The algorithm is further validated through engineering case studies to investigate semi-active control strategies in response to random seismic events. The results show that the seismic reliability of the machine learning-based semi-active control algorithm is significantly higher than that of the uncontrolled state for the same failure threshold under random seismic effects.

In order to investigate the synergistic effect of extrusion and polyphenol treatment on the physicochemical and structural characteristics of corn starch (CS), four polyphenols (ferulic acid, gallic acid, quercetin and curcumin) were selected in this study. The solubility, swelling power, pasting properties, thermal characteristics, antioxidant capacity, in vitro digestibility and crystal structure of the extruded CS with polyphenols were evaluated. The results showed that extrusion combined with polyphenol treatment resulted in an increase in the solubility, swelling power and pasting temperature of CS, and a decrease in the gelatinization enthalpy, peak viscosity and setback value, as well as a significant improvement in the scavenging activity against 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical and 2,2’-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) radical cation and anti-digestive properties. The binding of polyphenols to CS was dominated by hydrogen bonding during the extrusion process, leading to a decrease in the short-range orderliness of CS and eventually the formation of a special V-shaped crystal structure. After the combined treatment, the structure of CS became denser as observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM). This study provides theoretical guidance for the application of polyphenols in extruded starch-based functional foods.

Abstract Bone health screening is crucial before and during androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) for prostate cancer, yet changes in bone mineral density during ADT are often overlooked. To improve surveillance rates, we developed an auto-recruit path integrated into the outpatient system, where a pop-up reminder prompts physicians to arrange bone health screenings when ADT is prescribed without a dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) screening in the past year. If selected, the system orders DXA and related examinations automatically. We retrospectively reviewed DXA screening rates from 2000 to 2018. During that period, only 286 out of 3,019 patients (9.5%) received DXA screenings. After implementing the auto-recruit system, 251 out of 747 eligible patients (33.6%) were screened from March 2021 to February 2022. Participants using ADT for over a year had worse T-scores and higher osteoporosis rates (34.5% vs. 23.2%) compared to those using ADT for less than a year. Post-screening, there was a significant increase in calcium supplement and bone protective agent use, highlighting improved patient awareness and proactive bone health management. In conclusion, bone health screening for prostate cancer patients on ADT remains an unmet need. The auto-recruit path in the outpatient system effectively increases screening rates and enhances bone health management.

Abstract Background Pilon fractures are challenging to treat and carry a risk of delayed healing. MicroRNA (miRNA) is closely associated with various diseases due to its ability to regulate gene expression. Consequently, this study aimed to examine the connection between miR-1271-5p expression levels and pilon fracture healing processes, while also exploring the underlying mechanisms. The objective of this research was to provide valuable insights for the future clinical treatment of pilon fractures. Materials Venous blood samples were obtained for RNA extraction from patients with normal healing (n = 107) or delayed healing (n = 45) of pilon fractures. The expression levels of miR-1271-5p were measured using qRT-PCR. MiR-1271-5p and ZBTB7A biological functions in MC3T3-E1 cells were examined using the Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8), flow cytometry, and qRT-PCR. Finally, an investigation into the underlying mechanisms was carried out using a dual luciferase reporter assay. Results This study found that, compared to those who healed normally, patients who experienced delayed healing of pilon fractures had significantly higher expression of miR-1271-5p. This suggests that miR-1271-5p may be an indicator for delayed healing in pilon fractures. Moreover, the upregulation of miR-1271-5p may result in a reduction of ZBTB7A expression, which is thought to mediate the effects of miR-1271-5p on MC3T3-E1 cell activities. Conclusions MiR-1271-5p was involved in the healing processes of pilon fractures via targeting ZBTB7A. MiR-1271-5p was a possible target for the therapy of pilon fractures.

Abstract Biological invasion is a major global problem, leading to the loss of biodiversity and species extinction, and causing huge economic losses to countries. Obolodiplosis robiniae is a major invasive forest pest that has caused economic losses in Asia and Europe. Here, the chromosome- level genome of O. robiniae was assembled using the PacBio platform and Hi-C technology. A contig-level genome with a length of 199.49 Mb and a contig N50 of 4.66 Mb was assembled. Approximately 98.05% of contigs were successfully anchored to four chromosomes using Hi-C assisted genome assembly. The genome integrity was assessed to be 90.3% based on BUSCOs analysis. The high-quality genome provides valuable data for the study of invasive species, and a foundation for the understanding the biology and ecology of O. robiniae.

Abstract Background Although stem cell transplantation is a promising approach for the treatment of myocardial infarction (MI), there are still some problems faced such as the low survival rate of stem cells. Here, we investigated the role of Notoginsenoside R1 (NGR1) pretreatment in improving the effects of neonatal rat bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) transplantation for treatment of MI. Methods Cardiac functions were detected by echocardiography and the myocardial infarct size was determined by Masson’s trichrome staining in a rat model of MI. The cardioprotective effects of NGR1/LY294002 co-pretreated MSCs was evaluated to explore the underlying mechanism. The angiogenesis was determined by vWF and α-SMA immunofluorescence staining and cell apoptosis was detected by TUNEL. In vitro, the effects of NGR1 on stem cell proliferation was examined by CCK-8 and levels of P-Akt, P-CREB, P-FoxO1 were detected by western blot. Apoptosis, ROS content, and cytokine levels were examined by DAPI and TUNEL staining, a ROS assay kit, and ELISA, respectively. Results NGR1 elevated the therapeutic effect of MSC transplantation on infarction by preserving cardiac function, increasing angiogenesis and expressions of IGF-1, VEGF, and SDF-1, and reducing cell apoptosis, whereas the addition of LY294002 prior to NGR1 treatment significantly counteracted the foregoing effects of NGR1. NGR1 pretreatment and SC79 pretreatment were similar in that both significantly increased P-Akt and P-FoxO1 levels in MSC and did not affect P-CREB levels. Besides, both NGR1 and SC79 promoted VEGF, SCF and bFGF levels in MSC cultures, and significantly reduced ROS accumulation and the attenuated cell apoptosis in MSC triggered by H2O2. Similarly, addition of LY294002 before NGR1 treatment significantly counteracted the aforementioned effects of NGR1 in vitro. Conclusions NGR1 pretreatment enhances the effect of MSC transplantation for treatment of MI through paracrine signaling, and the mechanism underlying this effect may be associated with PI3K/Akt/FoxO1 signaling pathways.
