2. Fast T2w/FLAIR MRI Acquisition by Optimal Sampling of Information Complementary to Pre-acquired T1w MRI

Abstract

Recent studies on T1-assisted MRI reconstruction for under-sampled images of other modalities have demonstrated the potential of further accelerating MRI acquisition of other modalities. Most of the state-of-the-art approaches have achieved improvement through the development of network architectures for fixed under-sampling patterns, without fully exploiting the complementary information between modalities. Although existing under-sampling pattern learning algorithms can be simply modified to allow the fully-sampled T1-weighted MR image to assist the pattern learning, no significant improvement on the reconstruction task can be achieved. To this end, we propose an iterative framework to optimize the under-sampling pattern for MRI acquisition of another modality that can complement the fully-sampled T1-weighted MR image at different under-sampling factors, while jointly optimizing the T1-assisted MRI reconstruction model. Specifically, our proposed method exploits the difference of latent information between the two modalities for determining the sampling patterns that can maximize the assistance power of T1-weighted MR image in improving the MRI reconstruction. We have demonstrated superior performance of our learned under-sampling patterns on a public dataset, compared to commonly used under-sampling patterns and state-of-the-art methods that can jointly optimize both the reconstruction network and the under-sampling pattern, up to 8-fold under-sampling factor.

Abstract

The vertex $k$-partiteness $v_k(G)$ of graph $G$ is defined as the fewest number of vertices whose deletion from $G$ yields a $k$-partite graph. Abstract

A graph in a certain graph class is called minimizing if the least eigenvalue of the adjacency matrix of the graph attains the minimum among all graphs in that class. Bell {\it et al.} have characterized the minimizing graphs in the class of connected graphs of order $n$ and size $m$, whose complements are either disconnected or contain a clique of order at least $n/2$. In this paper we discuss the minimizing graphs of a special class of graphs of order $n$ whose complements are connected and contains exactly one cycle (namely the the class $\mathscr {U}^{c}_{n}$ of graphs whose complements are unicyclic), and characterize the unique minimizing graph in $\mathscr {U}^{c}_{n}$ when $n \geq 20$.

Abstract

The Harary index of a graph is defined as the sum of reciprocals of distances between all pairs of vertices of the graph. In this paper we provide an upper bound of the Harary index in terms of the vertex or edge connectivity of a graph. We characterize the unique graph with maximum Harary index among all graphs with given number of cut vertices or vertex connectivity or edge connectivity. In addition we also characterize the extremal graphs with the second maximum Harary index among the graphs with given vertex connectivity.

Abstract

In modern industries, the aerobic oxidation of C(sp3)-H bonds to achieve the value-added conversion of hydrocarbons requires high temperatures and pressures, which significantly increases energy consumption and capital investment. The development of a light-driven strategy, even under natural sunlight and ambient air, is therefore of great significance. Here we develop a series of hetero-motif molecular junction photocatalysts containing two bifunctional motifs. With these materials, the reduction of O2 and oxidation of C(sp3)-H bonds can be effectively accomplished, thus realizing efficient aerobic oxidation of C(sp3)-H bonds in e.g., toluene and ethylbenzene. Especially for ethylbenzene oxidation reactions, excellent catalytic capacity (861 mmol g cat−1) is observed. In addition to the direct oxidation of C(sp3)-H bonds, CeBTTD-A can also be applied to other types of aerobic oxidation reactions highlighting their potential for industrial applications. The authors report a family of photocatalysts containing Ce active sites and perylene diimide ligands for the aerobic oxidation of substituted toluene, ethylbenzene, benzyl alcohol, thioanisole, and benzylamine in acetonitrile. 29. Image gradient orientations embedded structural error coding for face recognition with occlusion

Abstract

Partially occluded faces are very common in automatic face recognition (FR) in the real world. We explore the problem of FR with occlusion by embedding Image Gradient Orientations (IGO) into robust error coding. The existing works usually put stress on the error distribution in the non-occluded region but neglect the one in the occluded region due to its unpredictability incurred by irregular occlusion. However, in the IGO domain, the error distribution in the occluded region can be built simply and elegantly by a uniform distribution in the interval $$\left[ -\pi ,\pi \right)$$-π,π, and the one in the occluded region can be well built by a weight-conditional Gaussian distribution. By incorporating the two error distributions and a Markov random field for the priori distribution of the occlusion support, we propose a joint probabilistic generative model for a novel IGO-embedded Structural Error Coding (IGO-SEC) model. Two methods, a new reconstruction method and a new robust structural error metric, are further presented to boost the performance of IGO-SEC. Extensive experiments on 8 popular robust FR methods and 4 benchmark face databases demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of IGO-SEC in dealing with facial occlusion and occlusion-like variations.

For problem that existing method of seepage line monitoring cannot fully reflect situation of tailings dam because of few monitoring points, the paper proposed a design scheme of seepage line monitoring system for tailings dam based on high density resistivity method. The system collects data from monitoring points through intelligent electrode switch. It gets resistivity distribution of the tailings dam profile based on analysis and calculation of the collected results, and know position of seepage line of the tailings dam and abnormal geological condition of the tailings dam body according to resistivity iso-surface figure. It provides scientific basis for risk assessment of tailings dam.

Eyes were randomized 1:1:1 to 2 mg intravitreal aflibercept (IVT-AFL) every 4 weeks (2q4; N=127), 2 mg IVT-AFL every 8 weeks (after 5 initial monthly doses from baseline to week 16) with sham injections on nontreatment visits (2q8; N=127), or macular laser photocoagulation at baseline and sham injections at every visit (laser control group; N=124). The primary efficacy endpoint was mean change in best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) from baseline to week 52.Results: Compared with baseline, at week 52 the mean (SE) BCVA in the 2q4 and 2q8 groups gained +13.6 (0.9) and +13.1 (1.0) letters, respectively, versus − 0.5 (1.4) letters in the laser group (P< 0.0001 for both). A significantly higher proportion of patients treated with IVT-AFL (2q4 and 2q8) achieved a ≥ 10-letter or ≥ 15-letter gain compared with laser (both P< 0.0001) (≥ 10-letter gain: 70.9%, 62.7%, and 23.4%, respectively; ≥ 15-letter gain: 43.3%, 36.5%, and 12.1%, respectively). Mean reduction in central retinal thickness from baseline to week 52 was significantly greater with IVT-AFL versus laser treatment. Incidence of treatment-emergent adverse events was low and similar across groups; conjunctival hemorrhage (11.8%), retinal hemorrhage (8.7%), retinal aneurysm (7.5%), and retinal exudates (5.5%) being the most frequently reported. Visual and anatomic outcomes in the Chinese subgroup were consistent with the overall population.Conclusion: IVT-AFL treatment resulted in significant visual and anatomic improvements in Asian patients with DME.
