1. Constraining the global mean surface temperature during 1850-1880 with new statistical physical model

Abstract

As IPCC ARs stated, global warming is estimated based on the average from 1850 to 1900 (global average temperature of preindustrialization estimated from relatively sparse observations). Given the impossibility of massive increasing observation data in the early stages, accurately constraining this baseline has become an unresolved issue. Here we developed a new statistical physical model to quantify the contribution of external forcings to global warming as a "deterministic trend" of the surface temperature series (instead of as non-stationary processes that yield a stochastic trend) and constrained the reconstruction of the early time series (1850-1880). We find that the existing datasets slightly overestimated the temperature anomalies in this period, thus the speed of global warming since pre-industrialization is still underestimated.

11. White matter microstructure is associated with the precision of visual working memory

Abstract

Visual working memory is critical for goal-directed behaviour as it maintains continuity between previous and current visual input. Functional neuroimaging studies have shown that visual working memory relies on communication between distributed brain regions, which implies an important role for long-range white matter connections in visual working memory performance. Here, we characterised the relationship between the microstructure of white matter association tracts and the precision of visual working memory representations. To that purpose, we devised a delayed estimation task which required participants to reproduce visual features along a continuous scale. A sample of 80 healthy adults performed the task and underwent diffusion-weighted MRI. We applied mixture distribution modelling to quantify the precision of working memory representations and guess rates, both of which contribute to observed responses. Latent components of tract-specific microstructural indices were identified by principal component analysis. Higher working memory precision was associated with lower bulk diffusion across ten tracts of interest and higher directionality of diffusion in a group of frontoparietal-occipital tracts. Importantly, there was no association between guess rates and any of the structural components. Our findings suggest that microstructural properties of white matter tracts connecting posterior and frontal brain regions mediate, in a functionally specific manner, the precision of visual working memory.

Abstract

In order to study the characters of chemical kinetics for organophosphorus migration in clay with different pH, waste of organophosphorus was put under pressure to leakage permeating the cohesive soil, and simulate the process of organophosphorus leakage permeating the Aquitard, searching the characters of chemical kinetics for organophosphorus migration in clay with different pH. It is shown that the ability of migration of organophosphorus leakage permeating the cohesive soil fall with increase of pH; the penetration rate of organophosphorus is about 1.25% when pH is 7.5, organophosphorus has not penetrated the cohesive soil when pH is equal or greater than 8.5. The effect of retardarce is obvious. Concentration of PO43− that comes from the mineralization of organophosphorus is lowered slightly with increases of pH of clay, and rise with extension of time. The Chemical Kinetics equation is log c=−0.1pH+0.2172k1t+S.

19. iRGD-mediated core-shell nanoparticles loading carmustine and O -benzylguanine for glioma therapy.

Abstract

iRGD (internalizing RGD) with high affinity to αν integrins was reported to enhance tumor penetrability by binding to neuropilin-1 (NRP-1). Based on our previous study, chitosan surface-modified poly (lactide-co-glycolides) nanoparticles (PLGA/CS NPs), loaded with carmustine (BCNU) and its sensitizer (O6-benzylguanine, BG) showed stronger anti-tumor effect than free drugs. In present study, PLGA/CS NPs (NPs) with core-shell structure were prepared and modified with iRGD or mPEG. F98, C6 or U87 cell lines with different receptors levels were selected forin vitroandin vivostudies. After administration of iRGD-mediated NPs, including iRGD-modified NPs (iRGD-NPs) and co-administration of iRGD and NPs (iRGD + NPs), their effects on glioma were compared with NPs. iRGD-NPs showed stronger cytotoxicity and cellular uptake than other groups. iRGD-NPs and iRGD + NPs displayed deeper tumor penetration and stronger anti-invasion effect on three dimensional (3D) glioma spheroids than NPs. On F98 glioma-bearing mice model, iRGD-mediated NPs showed enhanced crossing BBB ability and brain tumor accumulation levels. Correspondingly, the median survival time of iRGD + NPs, iRGD-NPs and NPs groups were 58, 49 and 34.5 days, respectively. Present studies supported the iRGD-mediated strategy to improve the efficacy of antitumor drug delivery system.
