What factors fundamentally determine the value of superconducting transition temperature (Tc) in high temperature superconductors has been the subject of intense debate. Following the establishment of an empirical law known as Homes'law, there is a growing consensus in the community that the Tc value of the cuprate superconductors is closely linked to its superfluid density and conductivity. However, all the data supporting this empirical law have been obtained from the ambient-pressure superconductors. In this study, we present the first high-pressure results about the connection of these two quantities with Tc, through the studies on the Bi1.74Pb0.38Sr1.88CuO6+delta and Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+delta, in which the value of their high-pressure resistivity (the reciprocal of conductivity) is achieved by adopting our newly established method, while the value of superfluid density is extracted using the Homes'law. We highlight that the Tc values are strongly linked the two joint response factors of magnetic field and electric field, i.e. superfluid density and conductivity, respectively, implying that the physics governing the determination of Tc is influenced by the intrinsic electromagnetic fields of the system., Comment: 11 pages, 3 figures

Here we report the first investigation on correlation between the transport properties and the corresponding stability of the lattice structure for CaK(Fe1-xNix)4As4 (x=0.04 and 0), a new type of putative topological superconductors, with and without a spin-vortex crystal (SVC) state in a wide pressure range involving superconducting to non-superconducting transition and the half- to full-collapse of tetragonal (h-cT and f-cT) phases, by the complementary measurements of high-pressure resistance, Hall coefficient and synchrotron X-ray diffraction. We identify the three critical pressures, P1 that is the turn-on critical pressure of the h-cT phase transition and it coincides with the critical pressure for the sign change of Hall coefficient from positive to negative, a manifestation of the Fermi surface reconstruction, P2 that is the turn-off pressures of the h-cT phase transition, and P3 that is the critical pressure of the f-cT phase transition. By comparing the high-pressure results measured from the two kinds of samples, we find a distinct left-shift of the P1 for the doped sample, at the pressure of which its SVC state is fully suppressed, however the P2 and the P3 remain the same as that of the undoped one. Our results not only provide a consistent understanding on the results reported before, but also demonstrate the importance of the Fe-As bonding in stabilizing the superconductivity of the iron pnictide superconductors through the pressure window.

Searching for functional square lattices in layered superconductor systems offers an explicit clue to modify the electron behavior and find exotic properties. The trigonal SnAs3 structural units in SnAs-based systems are relatively conformable to distortion, which provides the possibility to achieve structurally topological transformation and higher superconducting transition temperatures. In the present work, the functional As square lattice was realized and activated in Li0.6Sn2As2 and NaSnAs through a topotactic structural transformation of trigonal SnAs3 to square SnAs4 under pressure, resulting in a record-high Tc among all synthesized SnAs-based compounds. Meanwhile, the conductive channel transfers from the out-of-plane pz orbital to the in-plane px+py orbitals, facilitating electron hopping within the square 2D lattice and boosting the superconductivity. Once the magnesium alloy was implanted in the body, it was immediately covered with plasma proteins. The coated alloy surface promoted the adsorption and growth of osteoblasts. Herein, in vitro biological reactions of the ZK60 and AZ31 magnesium alloys were analyzed with and without plasma proteins incubation. The plasma proteins adsorbed on the magnesium alloy were characterized using mass spectrometry (MS). The MS results show that proteins related to bone cells such as fibrinogen, vitronectin, fibronectin, and prothrombin are prone to adsorbed on the surface of the alloys than other proteins. These proteins restrain the degradation of Mg alloys and promote the adsorption and growth of bone cells, which demonstrated by the immersion tests and biocompatibility assays. Furthermore, molecular dynamics simulations were used to analyze the details of the adsorptions of fibrinogen, fibronectin, and prothrombin on ZK60 and AZ31at atomic level. MPX3 (M=metals, X=S or Se) represents a large family of van der Waals (vdW) materials featuring with P-P dimers of ~2.3 {\AA} separation. Its electrical transport property and structure can hardly be tuned by the intentional chemical doping and ionic intercalation. Here, we employ an entropy-enhancement strategy to successfully obtain a series of medium-entropy compounds MEPSe3 (ME=Fe, Mn, Cd and In), in which the electrical and magnetic properties changed simultaneously. Lone-pair electrons of P emerge due to the dissociation of the dimers as evidenced by a 35% elongation in the P-P interatomic distance. The band gap widens from 0.1 eV to 0.7 eV by this dissociation. Under external physical pressure up to ~50 GPa, a giant collapse of up to 15% in the c-axis happens, which is in contrast to the in-plane shrinkage of their counterparts Fe/MnPSe3. It leads to the recombination of P3- with lone pair electrons into a P-P dimer and the smallest bulk modulus of 28 GPa in MPX3. The MEPSe3 transits from a spin-glass insulator to metal, and to superconductor, which is rarely observed in the MPX3. The interplay of superconductivity with electronic and structural instabilities on the kagome lattice provides a fertile ground for the emergence of unusual phenomena. The vanadium-based kagome metals $A$V$_3$Sb$_5$ ($A=$ K, Rb, Cs) exhibit superconductivity on an almost ideal kagome lattice, with the superconducting transition temperature $T_{\rm c}$ forming two domes upon pressure-tuning. The first dome arises from the competition between superconductivity and a charge-density-wave, whereas the origin for the second dome remains unclear. Herein, we show that the appearance of the second superconducting dome in KV$_3$Sb$_5$ and RbV$_3$Sb$_5$ is associated with transitions from hexagonal $P6$/$mmm$ to monoclinic $P2$/$m$ structures, evidenced by splitting of structural peaks from synchrotron powder X-ray diffraction experiments and imaginary phonon frequencies in first-principles calculations. In KV$_3$Sb$_5$, transition to an orthorhombic $Pmmm$ structure is further observed for pressure $p\gtrsim20$ GPa, and is correlated with the strong suppression of $T_{\rm c}$ in the second superconducting dome. Our findings indicate distortions of the crystal structure modulates superconductivity in $A$V$_3$Sb$_5$ under pressure, providing a platform to study the emergence of superconductivity in the presence of multiple structural instabilities.

The recent discovery of superconductivity in heavy Fermion compound UTe2, a candidate topological and triplet-paired superconductor, has aroused widespread interest. However, to date, there is no consensus on whether the stoichiometric sample of UTe2 is superconducting or not due to lack of reliable evidence to distinguish the difference between the nominal and real compositions of samples. Here, we are the first to clarify that the stoichiometric UT2 is non-superconducting at ambient pressure and under hydrostatic pressure up to 6 GPa, however we find that it can be compressed into superconductivity by application of quasi-uniaxial pressure. Measurements of resistivity, magnetoresistance and susceptibility reveal that the quasi-uniaxial pressure results in a suppression of the Kondo coherent state seen at ambient pressure, and then leads to a superconductivity initially emerged on the ab-plane at 1.5 GPa. At 4.8 GPa, the superconductivity is developed in three crystallographic directions. The superconducting state coexists with an exotic magnetic ordered state that develops just below the onset temperature of the superconducting transition. The discovery of the quasi-uniaxial-pressure-induced superconductivity with exotic magnetic state in the stoichiometric UTe2 not only provide new understandings on this compound, but also highlight the vital role of Te deficiency in developing the superconductivity at ambient pressures., Comment: 28 pages, 8 figures

Here we report the observation of pressure-induced superconductivity in type-II Weyl semimetal (WSM) candidate NbIrTe4 and the evolution of its Hall coefficient (RH), magnetoresistance (MR), and lattice with increasing pressure to ~57 GPa. These results provide a significant opportunity to investigate the universal high-pressure behavior of ternary WSMs, including the sister compound TaIrTe4 that has been known through our previous studies. We find that the pressure-tuned evolution from the WSM to the superconducting (SC) state in these two compounds exhibit the same trend, i.e., a pressure-induced SC state emerges from the matrix of the non-superconducting WSM state at ~ 27 GPa, and then the WSM state and the SC state coexist up to 40 GPa. Above this pressure, an identical high-pressure behavior, characterized by almost the same value of RH and MR in its normal state and the same value of Tc in its SC state, appears in both compounds. Our results not only reveal a universal connection between the WSM state and SC state, but also demonstrate that NbIrTe4 and TaIrTe4 can make the same contribution to the normal and SC states that inhabit in the high-pressure phase, although these two compounds have dramatically different topological band structure at ambient pressure., Comment: 19 pages, 4 figures

Structural and superconducting transitions of layered van der Waals (vdW) hydrogenated germanene (GeH) were observed under high-pressure compression and decompression processes. GeH possesses a superconducting transition at critical temperature (Tc) of 5.41 K at 8.39 GPa. A crystalline to amorphous transition occurs at 16.80 GPa while superconductivity remains. An abnormally increased Tc up to 6.1 K has been observed in the decompression process while the GeH remained amorphous. Thorough in-situ high-pressure synchrotron X-ray diffraction and in-situ high-pressure Raman spectroscopy with the density functional theory simulations suggest that the superconductivity of GeH should be attributed to the increased density of states at the Fermi level as well as the enhanced electron-phonon coupling effect under high pressure. The decompression-driven superconductivity enhancement arises from pressure-induced phonon softening related to an in-plane Ge-Ge phonon mode. Strong spin-orbital-coupling magnetic systems with the honeycomb structure can provide bond-directional interactions which may result in Kitaev quantum spin liquids and exotic anyonic excitations. However, one of the key ingredients in real materials$-$disorders$-$has been much less studied in Kitaev systems. Here we synthesized a trigonal SrIr$_2$O$_{6-\delta}$ with $\delta \approx 0.25$, which consists of two-dimensional honeycomb Ir planes with edge-sharing IrO$_6$ octahedra. First-principles computation and experimental measurements suggest that the electronic system is gapped, and there should be no magnetic moment as the Ir$^{5+}$ ion has no unpaired electrons. However, significant magnetism has been observed in the material, and it can be attributed to disorders that are most likely from oxygen vacancies. No magnetic order is found down to 0.05 K, and the low-temperature magnetic properties exhibit power-law behaviors in magnetic susceptibility and zero-field specific heat, and a single-parameter scaling of the specific heat under magnetic fields. These results provide strong evidence for the existence of the random singlet phase in SrIr$_2$O$_{6-\delta}$, which offers a different member to the family of spin-orbital entangled iridates and Kitaev materials., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures
