Abstract

Comprehensive Summary: The strategy of removable glycosylation modification was used to overcome the low‐efficiency problem encountered in the chemical synthesis of the mirror‐image D‐version of the immunoglobulin (Ig)‐like domain of tropomyosin receptor kinase A (DlgCTrkA), a protein molecule needed for mirror‐image screening of D‐peptide ligands targeting this cell membrane receptor. It was found that O‐linked‐β‐N‐acetyl‐D‐glucosamine (O‐GlcNAc) modification at DSer312, or DSer320 can significantly improve the efficiency of DlgCTrkA synthesis and folding, while O‐GlcNAc modification at DSer330 showed barely any improvement. This study provides a new example demonstrating the power of the removable glycosylation modification strategy in the chemical synthesis and folding of difficult‐to‐obtain proteins. It also presents evidence that removable glycosylation modification at different sites would significantly affect the efficiency of protein folding promoted by this strategy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The LiNbO3 (LNO) single crystal receives wide applications in nonvolatile memories, surface acoustic wave devices, and electro-optic modulators. However, engineering of antiparallel domain patterns within micrometer-sized devices generally requires a poling voltage more than a few thousands of volts. The high poling voltage could invoke dielectric breakdown. Here, we found an effective method to increase the local electric field significantly for domain nucleation at the interfaces of an etched LNO mesa in contact to two concave side electrodes, while the electric field across the protruding intra-electrode area can be lower by 10 times after the metal diffusion at the surface. Subsequent piezoresponse force microscopy mapping shows the nucleating domains to grow up through the entire intra-electrode area. This method is universal and analogous to other ferroelectric devices for the realization of low-voltage operations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Asymmetric photocatalysis consists of the synergistic effect of photocatalysis and organocatalysis, in which the photoelectrons in photocatalysts catalyze substrates to produce free radical intermediates, and chiral substances can control the stereoscopicity. However, photocatalysts are mainly concentrated in noble-metal materials, and perovskites with excellent photoelectric properties are rarely applied in asymmetric catalysis, mainly due to their susceptibility to catalytic environments. Hence, we embedded CsPbBr3 quantum dots into KIT-6 mesoporous silica to form silica-shell-protected heterogeneous photocatalysts (CsPbBr3@KIT-6), which were further combined with chiral organocatalysts to explore the activity and stereoselectivity in asymmetric photocatalysis. The well-dispersed CsPbBr3 in KIT-6 channels provides more active sites and exhibits excellent enantioselectivity in the formation of the C–C bond and cross-dehydrogenation coupling of C–H bonds (75.3–91.3% and 74.9–94.0%, respectively). Meanwhile, the turnover number (TON) of the 20CsPbBr3@KIT-6 photocatalyst with 20 wt% of CsPbBr3 reaches at least 36 700, which is 215 times higher than that of noble metal Ru photocatalysts in an N2 atmosphere and 458 times higher in an air atmosphere.
