32. Preparation and properties of ZrP2O7 matrix composites with high silica fibers reinforcement.

Abstract

ZrP2O7 ceramics exhibit poor mechanical properties after firing, as a major drawback. In this study, ZrP2O7 matrix composites reinforced with high silica fibers were prepared through pressureless sintering by varying the content and length‐to‐diameter ratio of the high silica fibers added to ZrP2O7 powder. After heat treatment at 1200‒1300°C, the room temperature flexural strength of the ZrP2O7 matrix composites with different amounts high silica fibers having different aspect ratios was 14.9‒45.2 MPa, the bulk density was 1.90‒3.03 g·cm−3, the apparent porosity was 2.37%‒39.39%, and the room temperature thermal conductivity was.47‒.95 W/(m·K). With an increase in the heat‐treatment temperature, driven by sintering and fiber crystallization, strength of the interfacial layer between the fibers and the matrix inside the ZrP2O7 matrix composites decreased and then increased. The transfer and blocking effects of the interface enabled effective transfer of the stress of the matrix to the fiber‐reinforced phase and prevented crack extension. The problem of inherent crystallization affecting high silica fibers at high temperatures was relieved by the ZrP2O7 ceramic matrix composites. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Although bioceramic materials exhibit good biocompatibilities and bone conductivities, their high brittleness and low toughness properties limit their applications. Zirconia (ZrO2)/resin composites with idealized structures and properties were prepared by fused deposition modeling (FDM) combined with a vacuum infiltration process. The porous structure was prepared using the FDM three-dimensional printing technology, with granular zirconia as the raw material, and the relationship between the pore shape, pore size, and deformation was discussed. The results showed that square pores were more suitable than honeycomb pores for printing small pore sizes, and the resolution was high. Scanning electron microscopy observations showed that the superposition of multiple printing paths promoted the emergence of hole defects. The effects of the resin and the pore shape on the compressive strengths of the composites were studied. It was found that the compressive strengths of the honeycomb pore ZrO2/resin composites and porous ceramics were superior to those of the square pore samples. The introduction of the resin had a significant effect on the compressive strengths of the composites. The compressive strength increased in the direction perpendicular to the pores, while it decreased in the direction parallel to the pores. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

50. Effect of BPO4 on phase transition behavior and sintering of quartz materials.

Abstract

In order to inhibit the phase transition of quartz, the effects of BPO4 addition and sintering temperature on the structure and properties of quartz materials were studied. The results showed that the addition of 5 wt.% BPO4 successfully inhibited the formation of cristobalite. Samples with 5 wt.% BPO4 added exhibited the high cold modulus of rupture (15.59 MPa) and bulk density (1.92 g/cm3) sintered at 1200°C–1400°C. In addition, BPO4 formed a glass phase sintered at 1200°C–1400°C and distributed between SiO2 particles, filling pores and densifying the material. Therefore, the prepared quartz‐based ceramics with BPO4 have broad potential in the field of medium and high temperatures, and can be applied to aerospace and other fields. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
