2. Low-energy hole subband dispersions in a cylindrical Ge nanowire: the effects of the nanowire growth direction

Abstract

We examine the validity of the spherical approximation $\gamma_{s}=(2\gamma_{2}+3\gamma_{3})/5$ in the Luttinger-Kohn Hamiltonian in calculating the subband dispersions of the hole gas. We calculate the realistic hole subband dispersions (without the spherical approximation) in a cylindrical Ge nanowire by using quasi-degenerate perturbation theory. The realistic low-energy hole subband dispersions have a double-well anticrossing structure, that consists with the spherical approximation prediction. However, the realistic subband dispersions are also nanowire growth direction dependent. When the nanowire growth direction is restricted in the (100) crystal plane, the detailed growth direction dependences of the subband parameters are given. We find the spherical approximation is good approximation, it can nicely reproduce the real result in some special growth directions., Comment: 7 pages, 7 figures

Abstract

The present methods for the determination of heavy metals in soil by Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry(ICP-MS) have many disadvantages including an inappropriate decomposition process and the parameters of instruments requiring optimization.To address this inadequacy, soil samples for an investigation of heavy metal pollution have been characterized by complex matrices, large weights and different properties of measured elements.Combining acid decomposition on an electric heating plate with ICP-MS, the key to determination of four kinds of main heavy metal pollutants, Cr, Cu, Cd and Pb, in soil were explored and are presented in this study.The results show that the samples can be decomposed completely by a mixture of nitric acid, hydrochloric acid, hydrofluoric acid, and sulfuric acid(50%).The matrix effect is reduced effectively by the work curve and the mass spectrum interference is reduced effectively by both adopting collision/reaction cell technology and by mathematical correction.Integration time and repeated times of ICP-MS have significant influences on testing results of trace Cd, so the optimal parameters of them are 0.4s and 3 times, respectively.The detection limits of this method for Cr, Cu, Cd and Pb are 1.74, 0.89, 0.015 and 0.08μg/g, respectively.This study provides a rapid and accurate method for determining heavy metals in soil.

Abstract

Each of dissolution and permeation may be a rate-limiting factor in the absorption of oral drug delivery. But the current dissolution test rarely took into consideration of the permeation property. Drug dissolution/absorption simulating system (DDASS) valuably gave an insight into the combination of drug dissolution and permeation processes happening in human gastrointestinal tract. The simulated gastric/intestinal fluid of DDASS was improved in this study to realize the influence of dynamic pH change on the complete oral dosage form. To assess the effectiveness of DDASS, six high-permeability drugs were chosen as model drugs, including theophylline (pKa1 = 3.50, pKa2 = 8.60), diclofenac (pKa = 4.15), isosorbide 5-mononitrate (pKa = 7.00), sinomenine (pKa = 7.98), alfuzosin (pKa = 8.13), and metoprolol (pKa = 9.70). A general elution and permeation relationship of their commercially available extended-release tablets was assessed as well as the relationship between the cumulative permeation and the apparent permeability. The correlations between DDASS elution and USP apparatus 2 (USP2) dissolution and also between DDASS permeation and beagle dog absorption were developed to estimate the predictability of DDASS. As a result, the common elution-dissolution relationship was established regardless of some variance in the characteristic behavior between DDASS and USP2 for drugs dependent on the pH for dissolution. Level A in vitro-in vivo correlation between DDASS permeation and dog absorption was developed for drugs with different pKa. The improved DDASS will be a promising tool to provide a screening method on the predictive dissolution-permeation-absorption dynamics of solid drug dosage forms in the early-phase formulation development. Abstract

The original discrete uncertain system with time-delay is simplified to a discrete uncertain system without time-delay and a switching function is designed in which the movement of system is asymptotically stable. Then a variable structure controller is designed, which can force the system trajectory arrive at the quasi-switching manifold in limited steps and can traverse the switching manifold each step and can decreasingly approach to zero. Finally, Effectiveness of the proposed control method is demonstrated by simulation example.
