Abstract

Coal gasification fine slag is a solid waste generated during the coal gasification process. Typically, it is mainly disposed of through landfill or stacking and has not yet been widely utilized on a large-scale industrial level. This study focused on the dry coal gasification fine slag obtained from a specific location in the North of China, considering its characteristics such as high ash content, high porosity, and continuous components. In order to fully dissociate the residual carbon and vitreous body, the ALC-1.5 grinder was employed for pre-grinding after identifying the material composition, particle size composition, surface morphology, and internal structure of the slag. Subsequently, flotation was utilized to separate carbon and ash in the gasification fine slag. Experimental results revealed that fine grinding significantly increased the exposure of the slag′s residual carbon surface, greatly enhancing its floatability. Using the secondary flotation process with a grinding time of 3.5 min, the roughing flotation progress employed 14 kg/t of 3# oil and 3 kg/t of Methyl Isobutyl Methanol (MIBC), while the scavenging flotation progress used 14 kg/t of 3# oil and 1.5 kg/t of MIBC. The resulting concentrate exhibited a rate of 3.20% with an ash content of 26.91%. The tailings had a mineral content of 37.67% and an ash content of 91.77%. The loss on ignition (LOI) was measured at 8.23%. Overall, the tailings product met the requirements of Class III fly ash.

Abstract

New carbon forms exhibiting extraordinary physico-chemical properties can be generated from nanostructured precursors under extreme pressure. Nevertheless, synthesis of such fascinating materials is often not well understood that results, as is the case of C60 precursor, in irreproducibility of the results and impeding further progress in the materials design. Here the semiconducting amorphous carbon having bandgaps of 0.1-0.3 eV and the advantages of isotropic superhardness and superior toughness over single-crystal diamond and inorganic glasses are produced from transformation of fullerene at high pressure and moderate temperatures. A systematic investigation of the structure and bonding evolution was carried out by using rich arsenal of complimentary characterization methods, which helps to build a model of the transformation that can be used in further high p,T synthesis of novel nanocarbon systems for advanced applications. The produced amorphous carbon materials have the potential of demanding optoelectronic applications that diamond and graphene cannot achieve

Abstract

Carbon is likely the most fascinating element of the periodic table because of the diversity of its allotropes stemming from its variable (sp, sp2, and sp3) bonding motifs. Exploration of new forms of carbon has been an eternal theme of contemporary scientific research. Here we report on novel amorphous carbon phases containing high fraction of sp3 bonded atoms recovered after compressing fullerene C60 to previously unexplored high pressure and temperature. The synthesized carbons are the hardest and strongest amorphous materials known to date, capable of scratching diamond crystal and approaching its strength which is evidenced by complimentary mechanical tests. Photoluminescence and absorption spectra of the materials demonstrate they are semiconductors with tunable bandgaps in the range of 1.5-2.2 eV, comparable to that of amorphous silicon. Abstract

This paper explores the reinforcement and toughening of oil well cement (OWC) by incorporating various oxygen content and size of graphene oxides (GO) at 50 °C, and then explores the mechanism of GO in OWC. Hydration heat evolution of OWC paste was tested using isothermal calorimetry. The hydration products and microstructure of OWC paste were examined using X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, mercury intrusion porosimetry and scanning electron microscopy. Results suggest that the dispersion performance of GO in Ca(OH)2 solution (CH) enhanced by increasing of oxygen content and enlarging of size in GO. Higher oxygen content and larger size of GO result in lower fluidity and shorter thickening time of OWC paste. The hydration reaction of OWC paste accelerated by incorporating GO with larger size. A more densely packed microstructure and enhanced mechanical properties in GO-bearing OWC pastes are achieved, particularly in early hydration, which can be attributed to the formation of C–S–H with a comb-like structure and denser aggregated calcium hydroxide by incorporating of GO. The increased in oxygen content and enlargement in size of GO further enhanced this effect. Incorporating GO with higher oxygen content and larger size led to further improvements in the strength performance of OWC hardened paste. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Attaching DNA oligonucleotides to gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) to prepare spherical nucleic acids (SNAs) has offered tremendous insights into surface chemistry with resulting bioconjugates serving as critical reagents in biosensors and nanotechnology. While thiolated DNA is generally required to achieve stable conjugates, we herein communicate that using a thermal drying method, a high DNA density and excellent SNA stability was achieved using nonthiolated DNA, rivaling the performance of thiolated DNA such as surviving 1 M NaCl, 2 month stability in 0.3 M NaCl and working in 50 % serum. A poly‐adenine block with as few as two consecutive terminal adenine bases is sufficient for anchoring on AuNPs. By side‐by‐side comparison with the salt‐aging method, the conjugation mechanism was attributed to competitive adenine adsorption at high temperature along with an extremely high DNA concentration upon drying. Bioanalytical applications of nonthiolated SNAs were validated in both solution and paper‐based sensor platforms, facilitating cost‐effective applications for SNAs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Based on Spolsky's (2004) tripartite framework for language policy, this study explores language practices, language ideology, and language management in relation to minority languages, Putonghua, and English in ethnic minority families in Yunnan, China. Through observations of and interviews with nine interethnic marriage families in Kena Village and Anmin Village, we found that although people in both villages recognise the value of their native languages in ethnic identification and cultural inheritance, people in Anmin Village make efforts to teach the children Mosuo, while children in Kena Village usually acquire Malimasa naturally. Such differences are associated with sociolinguistic environment and child agency. Meanwhile, Putonghua is widely used in television programmes and smartphone applications and acquired by the young generation due to national policy and the spread of smartphones and television. Families in both villages demonstrated similar aspirations for their children's English learning, but low socioeconomic status affected their ability to invest in foreign language learning. The results suggest that in the special context of multi-ethnic and multilingual villages in Yunnan the agency of rural parents and grandparents is relatively weak, and family language policies are mainly influenced by meso – (e.g. school) and macro- (e.g. socioeconomic environment, national policy) level factors. Abstract

The increasing frequency of cervical and lumbar spine disorders, driven by aging and evolving lifestyles, has led to a rise in spinal surgeries using pedicle screws. Robotic spinal surgery systems have emerged as a promising innovation, offering enhanced accuracy in screw placement and improved surgical outcomes. We focused on literature of this field from the past 5 years, and a comprehensive literature search was performed using PubMed and Google Scholar. Robotic spinal surgery systems have significantly impacted spinal procedures by improving pedicle screw placement accuracy and supporting various techniques. These systems facilitate personalized, minimally invasive, and low‐radiation interventions, leading to greater precision, reduced patient risk, and decreased radiation exposure. Despite advantages, challenges such as high costs and a steep learning curve remain. Ongoing advancements are expected to further enhance these systems' role in spinal surgery.
