Abstract Background Sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) during childhood is common and includes a range of breathing abnormalities that range from primary snoring (PS) to obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS).Studies have shown that not only OSAS, but also PS, which is originally considered harmless, could cause cardiovascular, cognitive, behavioral, and psychosocial problems. Many researches are focused on the relation of OSA and serum lipid levels. However, little studies are focused on PS and serum lipid levels in children.We evaluated whether serum lipid (total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C)) concentrations were associated with specific components of SDB, including indices of oxygen reduction index, lowest oxygen saturation, mean oxygen saturation. And we explored whether serum lipid levels were associated with different degree sleep disordered (PS and OSA group) and obese. Methods This was a cross-sectional study. Children who were complained by their guardians with habitual snoring and(or) mouth breathing were collected in the SDB group. Normal children without sleep problem were matched in the control group. Subjects in the SDB group underwent polysomnography. The serum lipid profiles of all the children included TC, TG, HDL-C and LDL-C concentrations were measured by appropriate enzymatic assays. Results A total of 241 with Apnea/Hypopnea Index ≥ 5 (AHI) were assigned to the OSAS group and the remaining 155 with normal AHI were assigned to the PS group. The values of TC, TG, LDL-C and LDL/HDL were significantly higher in the OSAS group than in the PS group, and the values in the PS group were significantly higher than the control group. Multiple regression analysis revealed serum TG only correlated negatively with lowest oxygen saturation. Body mass index-z score has a positive effect on TG in all the 1310 children (P = 0.031) and in SDB 396 children(P = 0.012). The level of serum TG in obese group was significantly higher than that in non-obese group. Conclusions SDB had a very obvious effect on blood lipids, whereas PS without apnea and hypoxia. Obese only affects the aggregation of TG. Trial registration ChiCTR1900026807(2019.10.23).

The juvenile-to-adult phase change with first flowering as the indicator plays a crucial role in the lifecycle of fruit trees. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying phase change in fruit trees remain largely unknown. Shikimic acid (ShA) pathway is a main metabolic pathway closely related to the synthesis of hormones and many important secondary metabolites participating in plant phase change. So, whether ShA regulates phase change in plants is worth clarifying. Here, the distinct morphological characteristics and the underlying mechanisms of phase change in jujube (Ziziphus jujuba Mill.), an important fruit tree native to China with nutritious fruit and outstanding tolerance abiotic stresses, were clarified. A combined transcriptome and metabolome analysis found that ShA is positively involved in jujube (‘Yuhong’ × ‘Xing 16’) phase change. The genes in the upstream of ShA synthesis pathway (ZjDAHPS, ZjDHQS and ZjSDH), the contents of ShA and the downstream secondary metabolites like phenols were significantly upregulated in the phase change period. Further, the treatment of spraying exogenous ShA verified that ShA at a very low concentration (60 mg · L−1) can substantially speed up the phase change and flowering of jujube and other tested plants including Arabidopsis, tomato and wheat. The exogenous ShA (60 mg · L−1) treatment in jujube seedlings could increase the accumulation of endogenous ShA, enhance leaf photosynthesis and the synthesis of phenols especially flavonoids and phenolic acids, and promote the expression of genes (ZjCOs, ZjNFYs and ZjPHYs) involved in flowering pathway. Basing on above results, we put forward a propose for the underlying mechanism of ShA regulating phase change, and a hypothesis that ShA could be considered a phytohormone-like substance because it is endogenous, ubiquitous, movable and highly efficient at very low concentrations. This study highlights the critical role of ShA in plant phase change and its phytohormone-like properties.

Abstract Background Allergic rhinitis (AR) is a prevalent immune-related allergic disease, and corticosteroid nasal sprays serve as the primary treatment for this patient population. However, their short duration of efficacy and frequent administration pose challenges, leading to drug wastage and potential adverse effects. To overcome these limitations, we devised a novel approach to formulate DEX-Gel by incorporating dexamethasone (DEX) into a blend of Pluronic F127, stearic acid (SA), and polyethylene glycol 400 (PEG400) to achieve sustained-release treatment for AR. Results Following endoscopic injection into the nasal mucosa of AR rats, DEX-Gel exhibited sustained release over a 14-day period. In vivo trials employing various assays, such as flow cytometry (FC), demonstrated that DEX-Gel not only effectively managed allergic symptoms but also significantly downregulated helper T-cells (TH) 2 and TH2-type inflammatory cytokines (e.g., interleukins 4, 5, and 13). Additionally, the TH1/TH2 cell ratio was increased. Conclusion This innovative long-acting anti-inflammatory sustained-release therapy addresses the TH1/TH2 immune imbalance, offering a promising and valuable approach for the treatment of AR and other inflammatory nasal diseases. In recent decades, numerous instances of blockages have been reported in coastal nuclear power plants globally, leading to serious safety accidents such as power reduction, manual or automatic power loss, or shutdown of nuclear power units. Loss or shortage of cooling water may compromise the reliability of the cooling water system, thus threatening the operational safety of power plants and resulting in revenue reduction. This study provides a comprehensive review of the current state of cooling water system safety in coastal nuclear power plants worldwide and the common challenges they face, as well as the relevant research on cooling water system safety issues. The research overview and progress in investigation methods, outbreak mechanisms, prevention and control measures, and practical cases of blockages were summarized. Despite existing research, there are still many shortcomings regarding the pertinence, comprehensiveness and prospects of related research, and many problems urgently need to be solved. The most fundamental concern involves understanding the list of potential risks of blockages and their spatially distributed effects in surrounding waters. Furthermore, knowledge of the biological cycles and ecological habits of key organisms is essential for implementing risk prevention and control and for building a scientific and effective monitoring system.

To investigate the expulsion effect of different expulsion modes on Hexagrammos otakii, this study examined various environmental conditions in an indoor tank. Specifically, different lighting conditions (white, blue, and green light at illumination intensities of 5000 lx, 8000 lx, and 10000 lx) were explored, as well as varied sound conditions (sound frequencies of 150 Hz, 300 Hz, and 450 Hz at different sound pressure levels of 130 dB, 140 dB, and 150 dB) and bubble curtain conditions (air volumes of 60 L/min, 120 L/min, and 180 L/min). Additionally, the expulsion effect of different fish densities (1.56 tails/m2, 2.35 tails/m2, 3.13 tails/m2) of Hexagrammos otakii was investigated. The findings revealed that the bubble curtain exhibited the most effective expulsion effect on Hexagrammos otakii, with an expulsion rate of (40.4 ± 12.0) %, the highest period of 53%, and an average expulsion distance of 3.0 expulsion intervals when the air volume was 180 L/min and the fish density was 1.56 tails/m2. Conversely, the expulsion effect of light and sound on Hexagrammos otakii was found to be insignificant, with the expulsion rate of sound not exceeding 20% and that of light being lower than 15%. These results have implications for the selection and design of fish expulsion equipment in offshore areas, such as those surrounding wind farms and nuclear power plants. Therefore, this study provides valuable scientific reference for resource managers and practitioners in the field.

Accurate carbon price prediction can help save energy and reduce emissions worldwide. Thus, this paper proposes a model that combines swarm intelligence algorithms with deep learning to predict carbon prices. In this model, we collect news related to carbon trading, construct a dictionary of carbon financial sentiment, and determine the emotional value of the carbon news. Secondly, The Harris Hawks Optimization (HHO) algorithm is improved by updating the escape energy and introducing the inertia weight. Then, the LSTM is optimized using the improved Harris Hawks Optimization (IHHO) algorithm. Finally, technical and emotional data on carbon price as multiple source input values are integrated, and the MS-IHHO-LSTM prediction model is established. The results show that the MAPE of IHHO-LSTM is 1.89%, 30.48%, and 10.30% better than that of HHO-LSTM in Hubei, Shanghai, and Shenzhen Carbon Exchanges, respectively. Similarly, MS-IHHO-LSTM showed a lower MAPE than IHHO-LSTM by 27.79%, 29.82%, and 6.33% in the corresponding regions. The results of the experiment indicate that: 1) Using IHHO to optimize LSTM hyperparameters can avoid falling into local optimal and improve prediction accuracy; 2) Incorporating emotional values can further enhance the model’s performance. The MS-IHHO-LSTM prediction model facilitates low-carbon investment, technological innovation, and green production, enabling enterprises to support environmental sustainability.

Abstract. Background:. With an increasing proportion of multiparas, proper interpregnancy intervals (IPIs) are urgently needed. However, the association between IPIs and adverse perinatal outcomes has always been debated. This study aimed to explore the association between IPIs and adverse outcomes in different fertility policy periods and for different previous gestational ages. Methods:. We used individual data from China's National Maternal Near Miss Surveillance System between 2014 and 2019. Multivariable Poisson models with restricted cubic splines were used. Each adverse outcome was analyzed separately in the overall model and stratified models. The stratified models included different categories of fertility policy periods (2014-2015, 2016-2017, and 2018-2019) and infant gestational age in previous pregnancy (

Background: Laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) is a common cancer of the head and neck in humans. The 5-years survival rate of patients with LSCC have declined in the past four decades. microRNAs (miRNAs) has been reported to be capable of predicting the prognosis outcomes of patients with different cancers. However, there are no reports on the usage of multi-miRNAs model as signature for the diagnosis or prognosis of LSCC. Methods: To establish the miRNAs expression-associated model for diagnosis, prognosis prediction and aided therapy of patients with LSCC, the present study enrolled 107 patients with LSCC in clinic and obtained 117 LSCC samples data from TCGA database for evaluation, respectively. Next generation sequencing (NGS), raw data processing, the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator algorithm, Cox regression analysis, construction of nomogram and cell function assays (including proliferation, migration and invasion assays) were sequentially performed. Results: There were massively dysregulated miRNAs in the LSCC compared to normal tissues. A six-miRNAs signature consists of miR-137–3p, miR-3934–5p, miR-1276, miR-129–5p, miR-7-5p and miR-105–5p was built for prognosis prediction of LSCC patients. The six-miRNAs signature is strongly associated with the poor overall survival (OS, p = 2.5e-05, HR: 4.30 [2.20–8.50]), progression free interval (PFI, p = 0.025, HR: 1.94 [1.08–3.46]) and disease specific survival (DSS, p = 1.1e-05, HR: 5.00 [2.50–10.00]). A nomogram for prediction of 2-, 3- and 5-years OS was also developed based on the six-miRNAs signature and clinical features. Furthermore, blocking the function of each of the six miRNAs inhibited proliferation, invasion and migration of LSCC cells. Conclusions: The performance of six-miRNAs signature described in the current study demonstrated remarkable potential for progression assessment of LSCC. Moreover, the six-miRNAs signature may serve as predictive tool for prognosis and therapeutic targets of LSCC in clinic.

Abstract Background The aim of this study was to explore the associations of RIPK1 polymorphisms, plasma levels and mRNA expression with susceptibility to epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) and clinical outcome. Methods Three hundred and nineteen EOC patients included in a 60-month follow-up program and 376 controls were enrolled. Two tag SNPs (rs6907943 and rs9392453) of RIPK1 were genotyped using polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) method. Plasma levels of RIPK1 and RIPK1 mRNA expression in white blood cells were determined by ELISA and qPCR, respectively. Results For rs9392453, significantly increased EOC risk was found to be associated with C allele (P = 0.002, OR = 1.49, 95%CI 1.15–1.92), and with CT/CC genotypes in the dominant genetic model (P = 0.006, OR = 1.54, 95%CI 1.12–2.08). CC haplotype (rs6907943-rs9392453) was associated with increased EOC susceptibility. CC genotype of rs6907943 and CT/CC genotypes of rs9392453 were associated with early onset (age ≤ 50 years) of EOC (OR = 2.5, 95%CI 1.03–5.88, and OR = 1.64, 95%CI 1.04–2.63, respectively). AC genotype of rs6907943 was associated with better overall survival of EOC patients in the over-dominant genetic model (P = 0.035, HR = 0.41, 95%CI 0.18–0.94). Multivariate survival analysis identified the AC genotype of rs6907943 as an independent protective factor for survival of early onset patients (P = 0.044, HR = 0.12, 95%CI 0.02–0.95). Compared to controls, significantly increased plasma levels of RIPK1 and reduced RIPK1 mRNA expression were observed in patients. Conclusions Our results suggest that tag SNPs of RIPK1, increased plasma levels of RIPK1 protein and reduced RIPK1 mRNA expression in white blood cells, may influence the susceptibility to EOC. SNP rs6907943 may be a useful marker to distinguish EOC patients with high risk of death.

Background: Hypoxia has been shown to induce cancer cells to become dormant meanwhile these cells inclined to disseminate and eventually cause metastasis. However, the molecular mechanism is still elusive. The purpose is to explore whether dormancy-associated microRNAs (DmiRs) get involved in hypoxia-induced cell dormancy of salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma (SACC). Material and Methods: This study performed multi-perspective investigation of the biological effects of miR-922/DEC2 on SACC based on clinical samples, 2D and 3D in vitro model and nude mice in vivo model, based on our previous study of overexpression of DEC2 inducing SACC cellular dormancy. Results: According to the existing microRNA array of SACC tissue, we found that miR-922 was upregulated in SACC tissue and was inversely correlated with DEC2, suggesting that miR-922 might participate in the activation of SACC cell dormancy as a DmiR. Then, we found miR-922 low SACC cells exhibited cell dormancy and a low level of fatty acid oxidation with propensity for lipid droplets accumulation through DEC2. Moreover, HIF1a downregulated the level of miR-922 to induce SACC cell dormancy. In addition, in xenografts of nude mice the inhibition of miR-922 attenuated the growth of primary tumor and the lung metastasis of SACC. Conclusions: miR-922/DEC2 axis was necessary to hypoxia-induced cell dormancy and played an important role in the lipid metabolism reprogramming of SACC.

Abstract Background The defect of B cell self-tolerance and the continuous antigen presentation by T cells (TCs) mediated by autoreactive B cells (BCs) play a key role in the occurrence and development of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). PD-1/PD-L1 signaling axis negatively regulates the immune response of TCs after activation and maintains immune tolerance. However, the effect of PD-1/PD-L1 signaling axis on the interaction between CD19+B/CD4+TCs in the peripheral blood of patients with SLE has not been studied in detail. Methods PD-1/PD-L1 and Ki-67 levels in peripheral blood (PB) of 50 SLE patients and 41 healthy controls (HCs) were detected through flow cytometry, and then the expression of PD-1+/−cells and PD-L1+/−cells Ki-67 was further analyzed. CD19+B/CD4+TCs were separated for cell culture and the supernatant was collected to determine proliferation and differentiation of TCs. IL-10 and IFN-γ secretion in the supernatant was also determined using ELISA. Results The PD-1, PD-L1, and Ki-67 levels on CD19+B/CD4+TCs in patients with SLE were higher than HCs. In CD19+B/CD4+TCs of SLE patients, the proliferative activity of PD-L1+ cells was higher than that of PD-L1− cells, and the proliferative activity of PD-1+ cells was higher than that of PD-1− cells. In the system co-culturing CD19+B/CD4+TCs from HCs/SLE patients, activated BCs promoted TCs proliferation and PD-L1 expression among TCs. Addition of anti-PD-L1 to co-culture system restored the proliferation of TCs, and inhibited IL-10/IFN-γ level. The addition of anti-PD-L1 to co-culture system also restored Tfh and downregulated Treg in HCs. Conclusions Axis of PD-1/PD-L1 on CD19+B/CD4+TCs in PB of SLE patients is abnormal, and cell proliferation is abnormal. In CD19+B/CD4+TCs of SLE patients, the proliferative activity of PD-L1+ and PD-1+ cells compared with PD-L1− and PD-1− cells in SLE patients, respectively. CD19+B/CD4+TCs in SLE patients can interact through PD-1/PD-L1.

This is an essay in the field of mining environmental engineering. In order to evaluate the influence of economic plant planting in the mining area on the rhizosphere soil biological community characteristics and physicochemical properties, 7 typical forest medicine economic plants such as Fallopiamultiflora, Puerarialobata, and 7 typical forest grasses such as Perennial ryegrassand Pennisetum were selected. Taking economic plants as the research object, the experiment of planting potted economic plants under forest was carried out. By measuring plant height, leaf area, aboveground/underground biomass and soil total phosphorus, total potassium, total nitrogen, available nitrogen, available phosphorus, organic matter, cation exchange capacity, and microbial community composition, richness, diversity and other indicators, To comprehensively study the effects of economic plant planting under forest on the characteristics and physicochemical properties of rhizosphere soil. The results showed that planting Chinese herbal plants would increase microbial diversity, while planting forages would have a certain impact on the composition of microbial communities; planting Chinese herbal understory economic plants had a significant improvement in soil fertility, and the most obvious difference was the control. The total nitrogen, alkali-hydrolyzed nitrogen, and organic matter in the group increased by 300.0%, 118.5%, and 825.3%, respectively; planting forages had no obvious effect on soil fertility. The research in this paper shows that planting understory economic plants will have a certain impact on the soil biome and improve soil fertility to a certain extent.

This is an essay in the field of earth sciences. The lithium belt in West Sichuanis the richest area of hard rock lithium resources in China, but the ecological and geological environment in the belt is fragile, so the coordinated development of resources, environment and economy has been a difficult problem for the deep development of regional resources. This paper systematically compares the natural resources, mineral resources, geological environment characteristics and the main environmental geological problems in the lithium belt, constructs an ecological and geological environment carrying capacity evaluation index system based on three subsystems: geological environment, ecological environment and social environment, selects and obtains 19 basic evaluation index data information, and carries out a region-wide carrying capacity evaluation. The results show that: the geological environment of the west Sichuan lithium belt is relatively safe and stable, the existing mining activities in the belt do not have a significant impact on the regional ecological environment, and the impact of human production and life is limited in scope. The proportion of the country area with medium and above carrying capacity reaches 79.16%, the ecological and geological environment carrying capacity in the lithium resource concentration area is high, and the overall ecological and geological environment is in good condition.

In recent years, microplastics (MPs) have emerged as a significant environmental pollutant, garnering substantial attention for their migration and transformation behaviors in natural environments. MPs frequently infiltrate natural porous media such as soil, sediment, and rock through various pathways, posing potential threats to ecological systems and human health. Consequently, the migration and adsorption mechanisms applied to MPs in porous media have been extensively studied. This paper aims to elucidate the migration mechanisms of MPs in porous media and their influencing factors through a systematic review. The review encompasses the characteristics of MPs, the physical properties of porous media, and hydrodynamic factors. Additionally, the paper further clarifies the adsorption mechanisms of MPs in porous media to provide theoretical support for understanding their environmental behavior and fate. Furthermore, the current mainstream detection techniques for MPs are reviewed, with an analysis of the advantages, disadvantages, and applications of each technique. Finally, the paper identifies the limitations and shortcomings of current research and envisions future research directions.

In order to meet the growing demand for food and achieve food security development goals, contemporary agriculture increasingly depends on plastic coverings such as agricultural plastic films. The remote sensing-based identification of these plastic films has gradually become a necessary tool for agricultural production management and soil pollution prevention. Addressing the challenges posed by the complex terrain and fragmented land parcels in karst mountainous regions, as well as the frequent presence of cloudy and foggy weather conditions, the extraction efficacy of mulching films is compromised. This study utilized a DJI Mavic 2 Pro UAV to capture visible light images in an area with complex terrain features such as peaks and valleys. A plastic film sample dataset was constructed, and the U-Net deep learning model parameters integrated into ArcGIS Pro were continuously modified and optimized to achieve precise plastic film identification. The results are as follows: (1) Sample quantity significantly affects recognition performance. When the sample size is 800, the accuracy of plastic film extraction notably improves, with area accuracy reaching 91%, a patch quantity accuracy of 96.38%, and an IOU and F1-score of 85.89% and 94.20%, respectively, compared to the precision achieved with a sample size of 300; (2) Different learning rates, batch sizes, and iteration numbers have a certain impact on the training effectiveness of the U-Net model. The most suitable model parameters improved the training effectiveness, with the highest training accuracy achieved at a learning rate of 0.001, a batch size of 10, and 25 iterations; (3) Comparative experiments with the Support Vector Machine (SVM) model validate the suitability of U-Net model parameters and sample datasets for precise identification in rugged terrains with fragmented spatial distribution, particularly in karst mountainous regions. This underscores the applicability of the U-Net model in recognizing plastic film coverings in karst mountainous regions, offering valuable insights for agricultural environmental health assessment and green planting management in farmlands.

Melatonin (Mel) is an endogenous active molecule whose metabolism progress significantly influences its bioactivity. However, the detailed metabolic pathway of Mel in the pathological state has not yet been fully illustrated. In this study, 16 metabolites of Mel in cancer cells and human liver microsomes were identified, of which seven novel metabolites were newly discovered. Among them, 2-hydroxymelatonin (2-O-Mel), as the major metabolite in cancer cells, was revealed for the first time, which was different from the metabolite found in the human liver. Furthermore, CYP1A1/1A2- and reactive oxygen species (ROS)-mediated 2-hydroxylation reactions of Mel were verified to be the two metabolic pathways in the liver and cancer cells, respectively. ROS-dependent formation of 2-O-Mel was the major pathway in cancer cells. Furthermore, the underlying catalytic mechanism of Mel to 2-O-Mel in the presence of ROS was fully elucidated using computational chemistry analysis. Therefore, the generation of 2-O-Mel from Mel could serve as another index for the endogenous reactive oxygen level. Finally, based on the ROS-dependent production of 2-O-Mel, Mel was successfully used for detecting the oxygen-carrying capacity of hemoglobin in human blood. Our investigation further enriched the metabolic pathway of Mel, especially for the ROS-dependent formation of 2-O-Mel that serves as a diagnostic and therapeutic target for the rational use of Mel in clinics.

Abstract: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of Idesia polycarpa fruit blackening on fruit and seed morphological characteristics, oil content, fatty acid content, seed germination rate and physiological properties. Germination tests were conducted under dry and wet storage at 5 °C for 0 d, 20 d, 40 d, 60 d and 80 d. The fruit mass, the 100-grain weight, the moisture content, the oil content of seeds and oleic acid in unsaturated fatty acids of black fruit are significantly lower than red fruit (P < 0.05). The germination rate of black fruit seeds was higher than red under wet storage and the malondialdehyde content of black fruits decreased with increasing storage time. Our results demonstrated that black fruits of I. polycarpa should not be discarded indiscriminately and that the color of the fruits can be chosen according to the purpose of use. Black fruits are picked for species propagation, while red fruits are mainly harvested for oil extraction.

3′,5′-Cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) is an important metabolite that is specifically enriched in jujube. However, the effect of cAMP on jujube cellular responses has not been comprehensively studied. Here, we established jujube cell suspension cultures and investigated the calcium influx in response to cAMP treatment through protoplast isolation and fluorescence intensity. Firstly, cAMP treatment could promote jujube growth and increase the content of endogenous cAMP. Using transcriptome analysis with transgenic Arabidopsis plants overexpressing adenylate cyclase (ZjAC) as a positive control, we identified 60 calcium-related differential expressed genes (DEGs) that contributed to the calcium signaling and inter- or intra-cellular responses. Pharmacological treatments such as cAMP and the calcium ionophore A23187 could induce ZjAC expression, the accumulation of cAMP and calcium influx in jujube cells, while ethylene glycol tetraacetic acid (EGTA) or bithionol treatment inhibited these changes. Moreover, the calcium channels and transporters in calcium influx, such as the ZjCNGC2 channel and the mitogen activated protein (MAP) kinase pathway, could be activated by cAMP treatment. In summary, our findings demonstrated that cAMP biosynthesis is dependent on calcium influx and the amplifying effect between calcium and cAMP may be involved in intracellular signal induction, which might contribute to the growth and development of jujube.

Based on the large number, diverse types and uneven distribution of geological disasters in Yibin City, this study takes the coupling relationship between geological disaster and lithology - structure as a starting point. Through data collection, remote sensing interpretation and field investigation, this study analyzed and summarized the control effects of formation lithology and geological structure on geological disasters. The findings can provide scientific support for the zoning and deployment of geological disaster prevention and mitigation in Yibin City. The results show that geological disasters in Yibin City are closely related to lithology. Landslides （including unstable slopes）, collapses, and ground collapses are widely distributed in soft and hard massive layered clastic rock formations. Additionally, the transition zone between hard layered massive carbonate rock formation and soft hard clastic rock formation is conducive to the development of collapse. Debris flows are distributed in rock formations that are easily weathered and can provide rich material sources. Regional geological structure also influences the overall distribution of geological disasters, particularly the consistency between the strike of folds and faults and the overall distribution of geological disasters. The degree of geological disaster development varies with different local tectonic environments. In fold structures, geological disasters are primarily concentrated within 2 km of the fold core, with density increasing gradually as the distance from the fold core increases. In the fault structure, the density of geological disasters points increases as one approaches the fault plane, with the control effect of faults on geological disasters particularly evident within 1 km. This study recommends that the northern part of the study area, specifically Fengtan Village in Gaoxian County and Heping Village in Jiang’an County, prioritize landslide prevention and control measures, such as group prevention and group strategy. In contrast, the southern part should prioritize measures to prevent and control collapses and ground collapses, such as professional monitoring, relocation, and avoidance.

Abstract To study the clinical significance of autoantibodies in Chinese patients with new-onset systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), we enrolled 526 new-onset patients who met the 1997 Updated American College of Rheumatology SLE Classification Criteria for a retrospective cohort study. Chi-square test and Wilcoxon rank-sum test were used to detect the relationship of autoantibodies with clinical manifestations and serological results respectively. Our results demonstrated that the positive rate of anti-ribosomal P protein (anti-P) antibody in female patients was higher than that in male patients (41.2% vs. 22%, P = 0.008). Patients with anti-SSB (43.95 ± 73.12 vs. 40.92 ± 75.75, P = 0.004; 63.93 ± 103.56 vs. 55.06 ± 120.84, P = 0.008 respectively) antibodies had higher levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate transaminase (AST), whereas those with anti-P antibody (28.90 ± 25.70 vs. 50.08 ± 93.00, P = 0.014; 38.51 ± 48.19 vs. 69.95 ± 142.67, P = 0.047, respectively) had lower levels of them. Anti-dsDNA antibody (P = 0.021) was associated with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). The patients with anti-Ro60 (P = 0.044), anti-P (P = 0.012) and anti-dsDNA (P = 0.013) antibodies were less likely to develop Interstitial lung disease. Anti-SmRNP antibody was correlated to lower prevalence of neuropsychiatric symptoms (P = 0.037), and patients with anti-centromere antibody (ACA) were more likely to develop serositis (P = 0.016).We identified five clusters of SLE-related autoantibodies, confirmed previously reported associations of autoantibodies, and discovered new associations.

Abstract Objective This study evaluated the identification efficiency of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) for sentinel lymph nodes (SLN) to accurately represent the axillary node status in early-stage breast cancer. Method In total, 109 consecutive consenting patients with clinically node-negative and T1-2 breast cancer were included in this study. All patients received CEUS to identify SLN before surgery, and a guidewire was deployed to locate SLN in those who were successfully explored by CEUS. The patients underwent sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB), and the blue dye was used to trace SLN during the surgery. The decision to perform axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) depended on the intraoperative pathological identification of SLN by CEUS (CE-SLN). The concordance rate of pathological status between CE-SLN and dyed SLN was calculated. Result The CEUS detection rate was 96.3%; CE-SLN failed in 4 patients. Among the remaining 105 successful identifications, 18 were CE-SLN positive by intraoperative frozen section, and one with CE-SLN micrometastasis was diagnosed by paraffin section. No additional lymph node metastases were found in CE-SLN-negative patients. The concordance rate of pathological status between CE-SLN and dyed SLN was 100%. Conclusion CEUS can accurately represent the status of axillary lymph nodes in patients with clinically node-negative and small tumor burden breast cancer. Graphical Abstract

Abstract Background Little is known about the epidemiologic features of syndactyly (SD) in Chinese newborns. Methods Using 2007–2019 data from the Chinese Birth Defects Monitoring Network, we conducted a prevalence analysis on overall, isolated and associated syndactyly according to birth year, maternal age, maternal residence, geographic region and infant sex, with special interests in time trends, perinatal outcomes and clinical phenotypes. Results A total of 13,611 SD cases were identified among 24,157,719 births in the study period, yielding the prevalence of 5.63, 4.66 and 0.97 per 10,000 for overall, isolated, and associated SD, respectively. Idesia polycarpa Maxim is an emerging oil plant species. Understanding its microecological characteristics and internal mechanisms can serve as a basis for field management and the screening and application of growth-promoting bacteria during the growth phase of young trees. This study used three-year-old young I. polycarpa to analyze the tree’s root morphology, soil, and leaf nutrient status variations from May to October. In addition, differences in the rhizosphere soil, leaf metabolites, and microorganisms were observed. The results showed that, from May to October, the total nitrogen (TN) in the soil significantly decreased, whereas the TN, total potassium (TK), and total phosphorus (TP) in the leaves differed (p < 0.05). The leaf-dominant bacteria changed from Pseudomonadota to Firmicutes phylum. In addition, the relative abundance of soil and leaf-dominant bacteria decreased. The study found that the soil and leaf differential metabolites were mainly sugars and phenolic acids. The soil bacterial community showed a significant correlation with soil pH, available potassium (AK), available phosphorus (AP), and TN (p < 0.05). Further, the soil fungal community was significantly correlated with pH and AK (p < 0.001). TP, pH, and TK were the main factors influencing the leaf bacterial community, while the leaf fungal community was significantly correlated with five factors, including pH, TC, and TN. The root morphology was also mainly affected by pH, Pedomicrobium sp., Talaromyces sp., Penicillium sp., and D-Mannitol 2.

Over the past decade, a notable evolution has been observed with the emergence of siloxane-substituted oxazoline ferrocenes, demonstrating significant potential as chiral ligands and catalysts. These compounds have consistently delivered exceptional results in diverse and mechanistically distinct transformations, surpassing the capabilities of classical oxazoline ferrocene ligands. This review meticulously delineates the research progress on siloxane-substituted oxazoline ferrocene compounds. It encompasses the synthesis of crucial precursors and desired products, highlights their achievements in asymmetric catalysis reactions, and delves into the exploration of the derivatization of these compounds, emphasizing the introduction of ionophilic groups and their impact on the recovery of transition metal catalysts. In addition to presenting the current state of knowledge, this review propels future research directions by identifying potential topics for further investigation concerning the siloxane-tagged derivatives. These derivatives are poised to be promising candidates for the next generation of highly efficient ligands and catalysts.

Abstract Background In this study, we estimated the trend of unintentional injury mortality among children aged under-five years in China during 2010–2020. Methods Data were obtained from China’s Under 5 Child Mortality Surveillance System (U5CMSS). The total unintentional injury mortality and all specific-causes unintentional injury mortality was calculated, annual numbers of deaths and live births were adjusted by a 3-year moving average under-reporting rate. The Poisson regression model and the Cochran-Mantel-Haenszel method were used to calculate the average annual decline rate (AADR) and the adjusted relative risk (aRR) of the unintentional injury mortality. Results In 2010–2020, a total of 7,925 unintentional injury-related deaths were reported in U5CMSS, accounting for 18.7% of all reported deaths. Abstract Background Pregnant and puerperal women are high-risk populations for developing venous thromboembolism (VTE). Plasma D-dimer (D-D) is of good value in the diagnosis of exclusion of VTE in the nonpregnant population. Since there is no consensus reference range of plasma D-D applicable to pregnant and puerperal women, the application of plasma D-D is limited. To investigate the change characteristics and the reference range of plasma D-D levels during pregnancy and puerperium and to explore the pregnancy- and childbirth-related factors affecting plasma D-D levels and the diagnostic efficacy of plasma D-D for excluding VTE during early puerperium after caesarean section. Methods A prospective cohort study was conducted with 514 pregnant and puerperal women (cohort 1), and 29 puerperal women developed VTE 24–48 h after caesarean section (cohort 2). In cohort 1, the effects of the pregnancy- and childbirth-related factors on the plasma D-D levels were analyzed by comparing the differences in plasma D-D levels between different groups and between different subgroups. The 95th percentiles were calculated to establish the unilateral upper limits of the plasma D-D levels. The plasma D-D levels at 24–48 h postpartum were compared between normal singleton pregnant and puerperal women in cohort 2 and women from the cesarean section subgroup in cohort 1, binary logistic analysis was used to analyze the relevance between plasma D-D level and the risk of VTE developing 24–48 h after caesarean section, and a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to assess the diagnostic efficacy of plasma D-D for excluding VTE during early puerperium after caesarean section. Results The 95% reference ranges of plasma D-D levels in the normal singleton pregnancy group were ≤ 1.01 mg/L in the first trimester, ≤ 3.17 mg/L in the second trimester, ≤ 5.35 mg/L in the third trimester, ≤ 5.47 mg/L at 24–48 h postpartum, and ≤ 0.66 mg/L at 42 days postpartum. Bone metastasis of cancer cells leads to severe pain by disrupting bone structure and inducing central sensitization. Neuroinflammation in the spinal cord plays a decisive role in the maintenance and development of pain. In the current study, male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats are used to establish a cancer-induced bone pain (CIBP) model by intratibial injection of MRMT-1 rat breast carcinoma cells. Morphological and behavioral analyses verify the establishment of the CIBP model, which represents bone destruction, spontaneous pain and mechanical hyperalgesia in CIBP rats. Activation of astrocytes marked by upregulated glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and enhanced production of the proinflammatory cytokine interleukin-1β (IL-1β) are accompanied by increased inflammatory infiltration in the spinal cord of CIBP rats. Furthermore, activation of the NOD-like receptor pyrin domain-containing protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome is consistent with increased neuroinflammation. Adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) activation is involved in attenuating inflammatory pain and neuropathic pain. Intrathecal injection of the AMPK activator AICAR in the lumbar spinal cord reduces dynamin-related protein 1 (Drp1) GTPase activity and suppresses NLRP3 inflammasome activation. This effect consequently alleviates pain behaviors in CIBP rats. Cell research on C6 rat glioma cells indicates that AICAR treatment restores IL-1β-induced impairment of mitochondrial membrane potential and elevation of mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS). In summary, our findings indicate that AMPK activation attenuates cancer-induced bone pain by reducing mitochondrial dysfunction-mediated neuroinflammation in the spinal cord.

Abstract This paper proposes a locally convexified rigid tube model predictive control for obstacle avoidance for linear, discrete‐time, systems subject to additive, bounded disturbances and state and control constraints. The inherently nonconvex obstacle avoidance constraints are locally convexified and converted into closed polyhedral constraints by deploying recent notions of safe sets and tubes. The proposed method leverages these recent notions of safe sets and tubes to reformulate the original nonconvex optimization problem for obstacle avoidance within the context of disturbances into a computationally highly efficient, strictly convex quadratic programming problem. In order to analyze the separation between a predicted state set and each obstacle avoidance constraint set, we employ the Euclidean distance between these two sets and the radius of the Chebyshev ball of their intersection. In the strict separation case, the separating hyperplanes are constructed by utilizing the separation theorem for convex sets, while in the weak separation case, the construction of separating hyperplanes is achieved through the use of the separation theorem and the properties of convex cones. The proposed method provides guarantees of strong system theoretic properties such as robust recursive feasibility, robust positive invariance and robust stability of the controlled uncertain system. A simulation example is also provided to numerically verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Accurate prediction of stock prices can reduce investment risks and increase returns. This paper combines the multi-source data affecting stock prices and applies sentiment analysis, swarm intelligence algorithm, and deep learning to build the MS-SSA-LSTM model. Firstly, we crawl the East Money forum posts information to establish the unique sentiment dictionary and calculate the sentiment index. Then, the Sparrow Search Algorithm (SSA) optimizes the Long and Short-Term Memory network (LSTM) hyperparameters. Finally, the sentiment index and fundamental trading data are integrated, and LSTM is used to forecast stock prices in the future. Experiments demonstrate that the MS-SSA-LSTM model outperforms the others and has high universal applicability. Compared with standard LSTM, the $R^{2}$ of MS-SSA-LSTM is improved by 10.74% on average. We found that: 1) Adding the sentiment index can enhance the model’s predictive performance. 2) The LSTM’s hyperparameters are optimized using SSA, which objectively explains the model parameter settings and improves the prediction effect. 3) The high volatility of China’s financial market is more suitable for short-term prediction.

Photoelectrochemical (PEC) active interfaces exhibiting visible-light responses and good electron-transfer capabilities are key to the development of PEC biosensors. In this study, bioinspired polydopamine (PDA)–polyethyleneimine (PEI) hybrid films were designed to engineer inorganic semiconductors and construct PEC biosensing interfaces. The charge-transfer capability and visible-light-response property of PDA were combined with the electron-attracting ability of PEI to produce a synergistic PEC-enhancement effect. The achieved PEC-enhancement effect was versatile for photoanode and photocathode semiconductors. Further, the role of PEI doping was revealed via electrochemical investigations. Compared with the PDA sensing platform, the hybrid sensing interface offered by the PDA–PEI film exhibited enhanced analytical performances toward ascorbic acid (AA), achieving a larger detection range and a lower limit of detection.

Abstract Background Pulmonary sequestration (PS) is the second common congenital lung malformation and has been known for over 150 years. However, there is a scarcity of epidemiological studies on it. This study aimed to characterize the epidemiology of pulmonary sequestration in Chinese population in the recent decade by using a nationwide database. Methods Using data from the Chinese Birth Defects Monitoring Network during 2010–2019, the prevalence rates for PS were calculated by birth year, maternal age, residence area, geographical region, and infant sex. Variations in prevalence and changes over time were further examined. Other variables of interest for analysis included the pregnancy outcomes of affected infants, the prenatal diagnosis, and the co-occurring anomalies of PS cases. Results During the study period, we identified an average prevalence rate of 0.31, 0.11, and 0.42 per 10,000 live and still births for the isolated, non-isolated, and overall PS, respectively. Abstract Background Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) are a growing concern and a challenge for maternity care providers as the prevalence of hypertension continues to increase. However, optimal management of HDP is unclear. Therefore, we aimed to explore the differences in adverse fetal outcomes among women with different subtypes of HDP and different blood pressure (BP) levels, to provide evidence-based management of HDP. Methods We obtained data from China’s National Maternal Near-Miss Surveillance System from 2012 to 2020. Associations between BP management and adverse fetal outcomes, stratified by the four subtypes of HDP, were assessed using logistic regression analysis with a robust variance estimator. Results For the period, a total of 393,353 pregnant women with HDP were included in the study; 8.51% had chronic hypertension, 2.27% had superimposed preeclampsia, 50.17% had preeclampsia or eclampsia, and 39.04% had gestational hypertension. The BP levels at delivery admission were mostly (61.14%) of non-severe stage 2 (systolic BP 140–159 mm Hg and/or diastolic BP 90–109 mm Hg) hypertension by American Heart Association classification. A high rate of adverse fetal outcomes was observed among women with HDP, especially among those aged 35 y or those diagnosed with superimposed preeclampsia. Compared with those with normal BP levels at delivery admission, we found an upward curve with increased risk among pregnant women with more severe BP levels, including the risk of preterm birth and small for gestational age (SGA) fetus. The odds ratios (ORs) of stillbirth, neonatal death, and low Apgar scores associated with severe stage 2 hypertension increased significantly. In addition, the association between BP at admission and fetal outcomes differed among women with varying HDP subtypes. Pregnant women with preeclampsia or eclampsia had an increased risk for preterm birth (adjusted OR [aOR], 1.33 [95% confidence interval {CI}, 1.07 ~ 1.65]) and SGA (aOR, 1.37 [95% CI, 1.10 ~ 1.71]) even when the admission BP was at stage 1 level. Conclusion Greater attention should be paid to cases involving preeclampsia superimposed on chronic hypertension and pregnant women aged 35 y to mitigate the burden of adverse fetal outcomes caused by HDP.

To explore the differences in the fine root characteristics and rhizosphere environment of male and female Idesia polycarpa Maxim at different stages, 7-year-old male and female I. polycarpa were used as plant materials. The fine root characteristics were measured with a root scanner, and rhizosphere soil was collected at the flowering stage (May), fruit accumulation stage (July), and fruit maturity stage (October). In addition, this study analyzed the soil nutrient characteristics of these conditions at different stages. At the same time, Illumine high-throughput sequencing technology and gas chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (GC–MS) technology were used to analyze the rhizosphere microbes and metabolites of male and female plants at different stages. The results showed that the total root length, surface area, total volume, root tip number, and total average diameter of the fine root of female plants were larger than those of male plants, and the difference reached its maximum in the fruit material accumulation stage. Total carbon (TC) and total nitrogen (TN) content in the rhizosphere soil of male and female plants significantly differed over multiple stages, while available soil nitrogen and potassium content significantly differed during fruit ripening. The rhizosphere microbial composition of male and female plants was similar, and the dominant bacteria in the rhizosphere soil of each stage were Proteobacteria, Acidobacteria, Ascomycota, and Mortierellomycota. The relative abundance of Bacillus, Arthrobacter, Volutella, and Neocosmospora in rhizosphere soil at different stages differed between male and female plants. Combined with the OPLS-DA model and database retrieval, 29 significantly different metabolites, most of which were carbohydrates, were detected in the rhizosphere soil of male and female plants. Moreover, there were more significant metabolites in the rhizosphere soil at the flowering stage than in the fruit ripening stage. Through RDA analysis, available potassium (AK), Pedomicrobium, Chaetomium, and Glucose 1 had the greatest influence on fine root traits of I. polycarpa. The results indicated that the fine root traits were negatively correlated with AK and rhizosphere metabolites. Moreover, positive correlations were found with rhizosphere microorganism traits. The above results laid a foundation for the field management of I. polycarpa and the screening and application of rhizosphere growth-promoting bacteria resources.

Background: The guidelinesthat specify whether antibiotic prophylaxis should be administered before laparoscopic clean-contaminated wound to prevent postoperative surgical site infection (SSI) need to be improved. Studies have shown that elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy with clean-contaminated wound does not require antibiotic prophylaxis. However, there are no studies on the effect of antibiotic prophylaxis on SSI after laparoscopic appendectomy for chronic appendicitis (LCA), which is a clean-contaminated wound. Methods: We conducted a single-center, double-blind, randomized controlled clinical trial. A total of 106 effective patients were randomly divided into the antibiotic group and saline group. Cefuroxime or clindamycin was administered intravenously in the antibiotic group (n = 52). Saline (0.9%) was administered intravenously in the saline group (n = 54). Interventions were administered as a single dose 30 min before surgery. Results: Among the 106 effective patients (median age, 37 years old [IQR, 25–45]; females, 77 [72.6%]), there were 6 cases (5.70%) of SSI: 3 cases (5.56%) in the saline group and 3 cases (5.70%) in the antibiotic group (OR = 1.00, [95% CI (0.20–5.4)], P = 0.96). There were no significant differences in the clinical outcomes of anal exhaust time, postoperative complications, and the symptom of primary abdominal pain between the two groups. Conclusion: For patients with chronic appendicitis undergoing laparoscopic appendectomy, preoperative intravenous antibiotic prophylaxis did not reduce the risk of SSI within 30 days of the surgery compared to the saline group. According to the special geochemical landscape and soil characteristics of typical pyrite mining areas in southern Sichuan, soil investigation method test was carried out in the pollution assessment of mining areas. The enrichment and distribution characteristics of elements in different soil horizon and size fraction were studied by multivariate statistical analysis, significance test, pollution load index calculation and other methods combined with element geochemical analysis. The results show that there are significant differences in the enrichment characteristics of elements among soil horizon. The sampling horizon is an important factor affecting the overall enrichment of elements. The surface soil has a higher overall enrichment degree of elements, and the sulfur element combination has a more obvious distribution tendency in coarse-grained soil. It is suggested that the area with high suitability should be selected, the sampling horizon should be surface (0~10 cm), and the particle size of sample preparation should be -2.00 mm.

Abstract Background The infant mortality rate (IMR) is considered a basic measure of public health for countries around the world. The specific aim of our study was to provide an updated description of infant mortality rate among different regions in rural China, and assess the trends and causes of the IMR geographical disparities. Methods Data were collected from China’s Under-5 Child Mortality Surveillance System(U5CMSS). The annual number of deaths and causes of death were adjusted using a 3-year moving average underreporting rate based on annual national data quality control results. The average annual decline rate (AADR) and the relative risk (RR) of the IMR and cause-specific infant mortality were calculated by Poisson regression and the Cochran–Mantel–Haenszel method. Data analysis was completed by SAS software. Results There was an apparent decrease in infant mortality in rural China from 2010 to 2018, at the AADR of 11.0% (95%CI 9.6–12.4), 11.2% (95%CI 10.3–12.1) and 6.6% (95%CI 6.0–7.3) in the eastern, central and western rural areas, respectively. The IMR was highest in the western rural area, followed by the central and eastern rural areas. Compared with the eastern rural area, the RR of infant mortality in the central rural area remained at 1.4–1.6 and increased from 2.4 (95%CI 2.3–2.6) in 2010–2012 to 3.1 (95% CI 2.9–3.4) in 2016–2018 in the western rural area. Pneumonia, preterm birth /LBW and birth asphyxia were the leading causes of infant deaths in the western rural area. Mortality rates of these three causes fell significantly in 2010–2018 but contributed to a higher proportion of deaths in the western rural area than in the central and western rural ares. Conclusions Our study indicated that the infant mortality rate dropped significantly from 2010 to 2018, however, geographical disparities of IMR in rural China are still persist. Therefore, there is an urgent need for public health programmes and policy interventions for infants in western rural China.

In this study, we successfully polymerized natural phenol (gallic acid, ferulic acid) and pyrrole (Py) monomers by oxidative polymerization of horseradish peroxidase (HRP). Then, we successfully colored silk fabrics using these chemicals. We analyzed the polymerization mechanism of polyphenol and polypyrrole complexes in detail using UV-Vis spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and high-performance liquid chromatography/electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (HPLC/ESI-MS). In addition, we investigated the electrochemical activity, thermal properties and anti-UV activity of the colored silk fabrics. We found that the oxidative polymerization of phenol and Py on silk fibers under mild reaction conditions using HRP produced technically conductive silk fabrics that combine the superior chemical and physical properties of silk fabrics with superior levels of electrochemical activity and thermal stability. Upon analyzing the color depth of the fabrics, we found that silk fabrics treated with Py have a darker color than silk fabrics treated in the absence of Py. Additionally, the fabrics had slightly different levels of color fastness, but all were within the acceptable range. This technique expands the range of applications of natural phenols for textile dyeing and functionalization as well as providing new prospects for the enzymatically environmentally friendly production of natural functional fabric.

Background Adenoid cystic carcinoma of head and neck (ACCHN) is an uncommon head and neck cancers, whose predilection age is 40 to 60. Some studies have revealed that early-onset cancers, such as colorectal cancers and esophageal adenocarcinoma, might present some unique clinicopathological features and have different prognosis with late-onset ones. However, little is known about the early-onset ACCHN. This study aimed to develop a prognostic nomogram for overall survival (OS) of patients younger than 40 with ACCHN. Methods Cases with ACCHN from 1975 to 2016 were retrieved from SEER-18 program. Demographic, clinical, and survival outcomes data of patients were identified for further analysis. The caret package was used to randomly divide early-onset patients into a training cohort and a validation cohort. A prognostic nomogram was constructed based on the univariate and multivariate Cox analysis. The discriminative ability and calibration power of the nomogram was evaluated by the concordance index (C-index), calibration curve, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Results A total of 5858 cases with ACCHN were selectively retrieved from SEER program in this study. The number of patients younger than 40, which was defined as early-onset ACCHN in this study, was 825. Based on the outcomes of multivariate analysis, tumor size, chemotherapy, surgery, and stage were selected for the construction of nomogram to predict 10-year OS. The C-index was 0.792 (95%CI 0.760-0.823) and 0.776 (95%CI 0.720-0.832) in the training and validation set, respectively. The area under the ROC curve values were 0.875 (95%CI 0.810-0.940) and 0.833(95%CI 0.754-0.912). The calibration plot indicated that this nomogram had proper calibration in both the training and validation cohorts. Conclusion A novel prognostic nomogram for early-onset ACCHN was constructed and validated in this study. This nomogram could be applied for assisting clinicians to more accurately assess the prognosis of young patients, which might facilitate clinical decision-making and subsequent follow-up.

According to a previous study, a concrete bridge bearing vehicles traveling at lower speeds suffers from more severe apparent damage compared to one bearing vehicles traveling at higher speeds. The authors of the study subjectively inferred that the observed phenomenon is due to different vehicle load-holding durations for different vehicle speeds. However, this interpretation is not true for bridges with a smooth road surface. Based on an engineering case study of Renyihe Bridge (a concrete rigid-frame continuous highway bridge with spans of 80 m + 4 × 145 m + 80 m), this article reveals via numerical simulations that with the increase in road surface roughness, the resonant responses of the bridge are significantly amplified for cases of low vehicle speed, which can well explain the phenomenon observed by the aforementioned study. Field experiments undertaken on Renyihe Bridge further reveal the related mechanism. These experiments reveal that the frequency of the vehicle excitation for a bridge with sufficient road surface roughness might be closer to the low-order natural frequencies of a bridge with a decrease in vehicle speed. Therefore, the resonant responses are supposed to be more significantly amplified in cases of low vehicle speed after an increase in road surface roughness.

Abstract Background Low- and middle-income countries have a high prevalence of primary hypertension, but its treatment and control are often low. Heat-sensitive moxibustion (HSM), an innovative acupoint stimulation technique, may be effective for treating hypertension and thus used appropriately in primary healthcare. The objective of this study is to investigate whether HSM is effective and safe for the treatment of primary hypertension in the community. Methods This study is a multicenter, pragmatic, randomized controlled trial (RCT) with patient-preference arms. Four hundred patients with primary hypertension from seven communities will be enrolled. Initially, the communities will be randomly assigned into two study clusters, one using compulsory randomization and the other allowing treatment selection by patient preferences. Then, patients in the compulsory randomization cluster will be randomized to receive HSM plus their original antihypertensive regimen (HSM group) or only their original antihypertensive regimen (control group) for 6 months. Patients in the patient preference cluster may choose to receive HSM or control if they have a preference; otherwise, patients will be randomly assigned. The primary outcome is the change in systolic blood pressure from baseline; secondary outcomes include change in diastolic blood pressure, dosage of antihypertensive drugs, quality of life (QoL), severity of hypertensive symptoms, and incidence of cardiovascular events. Patient compliance with the HSM regimen, the cost-effectiveness ratio, and safety outcomes will also be evaluated. Outcome data will be collected at 6 monthly visits. Discussion This trial will provide important evidence regarding HSM as a technique for primary hypertension in primary healthcare settings. Given the randomization with patient preferences considered, the trial will also allow analyzing patient-preference effects and the comparison of randomized and nonrandomized samples, to improve the robustness and extrapolation of study conclusions. ObjectiveTo assess the effect and safety of gum-chewing on the prevention of postoperative ileus after gynecological cancer surgery.MethodsWe conducted a systematic review of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published between 2000 and 2022 in English and Chinese, using the EBSCO, Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (Cochrane database), PubMed, Medline (via Ovid), Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), China Science and Technology Journal Database, and Wan Fang databases. A total of 837 studies were screened using Endnote software, and those that met the inclusion criteria were selected for analysis. The main outcome of interest was the incidence of postoperative ileus, and secondary outcomes included time to first flatus, time to first bowel movement, and length of hospital stay.ResultsTwo authors extracted data and performed quality assessment independently. The review included six RCTs with a total of 669 patients. Compared with routine care, gum-chewing could significantly reduce the incidence of postoperative ileus (RR 0.46, 95% CI: 0.30, 0.72, P=0.0006), shorten the time to first flatus (WMD -9.58, 95% CI: -15.04, -4.12, P=0.0006), first bowel movement (WMD -11.31, 95% CI: -21.05, -1.56, P=0.02), and the length of hospital stay (WMD -1.53, 95% CI: -2.08, -0.98, P
