Background/Aim. High-grade glioma (HGG) is an interstitial cell-derived primary tumor of the nervous system. The current guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of glioma recommend the maximum safe range of tumor resection for treatment methods. Adjuvant concurrent chemoradiotherapy is recommended after surgery, followed by six cycles of single-drug chemotherapy, temozolomide. Evaluation of the early efficacy of concurrent chemoradio-therapy after HGG surgery, especially for patients with a high risk of recurrence, is a crucial step in enhancing the treatment efficiency for patients diagnosed with HGG. In this study, we investigated the clinical utility of magnetic resonance (MR) spectroscopy (MRS) in assessing the early curing impact of concurrent chemoradiotherapy following HGG surgery. Methods. A total of 50 patients with incomplete resection or suspected residual postoperative HGG, treated in the radiotherapy department of our hospital between January 2016 and June 2021, were selected for routine concurrent chemoradiotherapy. Conventional MR imaging and MRS were performed one week prior to treatment and one month after treatment to assess changes in specific brain metabolites. All 50 patients were followed up for 6 to 12 months. Based on the follow-up results, the patients were divided into two groups: the tumor recurrence group and the tumor suppression group. One month after the end of the treatment, the differences in levels of brain metabolites between the two groups were analyzed using MRS. Results. The levels of N-acetylaspartate (NAA) and creatine (Cr) increased after radiotherapy, while choline (Cho) peak value, and Cho/Cr, NAA/Cr, and Cho/NAA ratios decreased compared to pre-treatment levels. There were statistically significant differences in the NAA peak value, and Cho/Cr, and Cho/NAA ratios in the tumor enhancement area before and after treatment (p < 0.05). There were also statistically significant differences in Cho/Cr ratio in the peritumoral edema area before and after treatment (p < 0.05). Conclusion. After concurrent chemoradiotherapy, MRS can be used to detect early metabolic changes in the tumor enhancement and peritumoral edema areas of HGG.

The traditional tangent impulse interception problem does not consider the influence of actual deviation. However, by taking the actual state deviation of the interceptor into the orbit design process, an interception orbit that is more robust than the nominal orbit can be obtained. Therefore, we study the minimum time interception problem and the minimum terminal interception error problem under tangent impulse conditions and give an orbit optimization method that considers the interception time and the interception uncertainty. First, we express the interceptor's transfer time equation as a form of flight path angle, establish a global optimization model for solving the minimum time tangent impulse interception and give a hybrid optimization algorithm based on Augmented Lagrange Genetic Algorithm - Sequential Quadratic Programming (ALGA-SQP). Secondly, we use the universal time equation and Bootstrap resampling technology to calculate the interceptor's terminal error distribution and establish the relevant global optimization model by using the circumscribed cuboid volume of the interceptor's terminal position error ellipsoid as the optimization index. Finally, we combined the above two single-objective optimization models to establish a global multi-objective optimization model that considers interception time and interception uncertainty and gave a hybrid multi-objective optimization algorithm based on Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II - Goal Achievement Method (NSGA2-GAM). The simulation example verifies the effectiveness of this method.

In this work, coal fly ash (CFA) -- a byproduct of coal combustion, has been successfully converted into a value-added product -- zeolite. This study focuses on the production of the Na-A zeolite phase via the fusion method. The effects of fusion reaction temperature, hydrothermal reaction temperature, reaction time, and the concentration of alkaline were investigated. The synthesized products were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and studied for their purity and yield. A fusion temperature of 550 °C, fusion duration of 1.5 h, and a subsequent hydrothermal temperature of 100 °C for a reaction of 12 h were found to be the optimal conditions. Based on the synthesis conditions found, an up-scale production process was designed and simulated with aid from the Aspen Plus program. It was found that zeolite production via the fusion method obtained high profitability. For a 5000 kg/h coal fly ash feed, a payback period of 7.1 years is feasible over a 20-year operation period. A cost-benefit analysis was studied to compare the improved environmental performance and economics of zeolite production from CFA with current CFA disposal practices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

By the method of artificial water contamination, and using transmission electron microscope (TEM) and flow cytometer (FCM), this paper studied the effects of cadmium on the germ cell apoptosis in testis and the quality of mature spermatozoa in epididymis of mice. Compared with that in control group, the amount of the germ cells under apoptosis in experimental groups was remarkably higher, and the ultrastructure of the germ cells showed the phenomena such as mitochondrion vacuole, karyotheca invagination, chromatin margination, and karyopyknosis, indicating that cadmium could easily cause testis spermatocyte apoptosis of mice. The proportion of the germ cells with early apoptosis was significantly higher in experimental groups than in control group, while that of active germ cells was in reverse (P<0.05). In high dosage group (0.10 mmol CdCl2·L-1), the survival rate of germ cells (75.1%) was significantly lower than that in control group and other experimental groups, and the early apoptosis rate of the germ cells (22.6%) was significantly higher than that of the control. The DNA breakage rates of the germ cells in testis and epididymis were significantly higher in high dosage group (18.2% and 26.5%) than in control group (3.3% and 5.6%) (P <0.05), and the amounts of testis germ cells with DNA breakage in experimental groups were lower than those of the epididymis germ cells with DNA breakage. The apoptosis rates of the germ cells in testis and epididymis increased gradually with the increase of cadmium dosage. Abstract: The significance of TLR expression and Tregs in HBV infection has not been clearly described. In this report, flow cytometry was performed to assess TLR2/4 expression on monocytes and circulating CD4+CD25+CD127low/− Tregs frequency of 16 acute hepatitis B (AHB), 42 chronic hepatitis B (CHB), 22 asymptomatic HBV carriers (AsC), and 20 normal controls (NC). We found that TLR2 and TLR4 were overexpressed on CD14+ monocytes in HBV-infected patients as compared with NCs. Upregulation of TLR2 in NCs and TLR4 in CHBs was observed following HBeAg incubation. However, TLR2 and TLR4 expression decreased after HBcAg stimulation. The difference in the proportion of Tregs between NCs and CHBs was significant. Both Pam3Csk4 (TLR2 agonist)- and lipopolysaccharide (TLR4 agonist)-activated CD4+CD25+ Tregs showed enhanced suppression function in CHBs. These results suggest that overexpression of TLR2 and TLR4 may modulate the suppressive function of Tregs, which contribute to the immunotolerance of chronic HBV infection. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: CXCR4 plays an essential role as the first discovered coreceptor for the entry of T cell tropic isolates of HIV-1. Blocking the surface expression of this receptor may be a potential strategy to prevent HIV-1 infection. A lentiviral vector, pLenti6/V5-S-K, expressing a SDF-KDEL fusion protein was constructed and a replication-incompetent lentiviral stock was produced. The lentiviral stock was transduced into CD34+ hHSC and the transient expression of the recombinant protein, SDF-1, was assayed using indirect immunofluorescence. The surface expression of CXCR4 in CD34+ hHSC pretreated with different amounts of recombinant lentiviral vectors was detected by flow cytometric analysis. A marked down-regulation of CXCR4 expression in the cells transduced with recombinant lentiviral vectors pLenti6/V5-S-K was observed by flow cytometry with PE-conjugated anti-human CXCR4 monoclonal antibodies which showed the percentages of the inhibition effects of CXCR4-SDF-1 mediated syncytium formation are presented by concentration. P24 antigen levels of cell culture supernatants were detected on the 4th, 7th, and 10th day, with 103 TCID50 HIV-1 infected CD34+ hHSC to evaluate the inhibitory effect of pLenti6/V5-S-K transduction on HIV-1 infection. The cells transfected with pLenti6/V5-S-K had a significant reduction of HIV-1 DP27 infection compared to controls (P <0.05). [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Objective: To observe the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) on histopathological changes of cartilage and subchondral bone and osteoprotegerin (OPG)，receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB (RANK), and RANK ligand (RANKL) (OPG/RANK/RANKL) signaling and the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-13 (MMP-13) in ovariectomized(OVX)rats, so as to explore its mechanism underlying improvement of osteoporosis., Methods: Three-month female SD rats were randomly divided into sham operation, model and EA groups ( n ＝8 in each group). The ovoariectomy model was established by resection of bilateral ovaries. Rats of the sham group were treated by simple removal of a piece of adipose tissue around the bilateral ovaries. EA (3 Hz/15 Hz, 1 mA) was applied to bilateral "Sanyinjiao" (SP 6), "Yanglingquan" (GB 34), "Yinlingquan" (SP 9) and "Zusanli" (ST 36) for 30 min, once daily (except the weekends) for 12 weeks. The histopathological changes of the subchondral bone of the right knee-joint were observed after Saffron O dyeing and evaluated by Mankin's score, and its anatomical structure including the bone volume fraction (bone volume/tissue volume, BV/TV), trabecular bone number (Tb. N) and trabecular thickness (Tb.Th), trabecular separation (Tb.Sp) was observed by using Micro CT imaging. The urine C-terminal cross-linking telopeptide of type Ⅰ collagen (CTX-Ⅰ), CTX-Ⅱ (two bone resorption markers) and serum estrogen (E 2) contents were assayed by ELISA, and the expression levels of OPG, RANKL and MMP-13 mRNAs in the cartilage tissue of the left knee-joint were detected by quantitative RT-PCR., Results: Following modeling, the BV/TV, Tb. N and Tb.Th levels were significantly decreased ( P <0.01) and Tb.Sp and Mankin's score obviously increased in the model group compared with the sham group ( P <0.01), suggesting a formation of osteoporosis and degeneration of the cartilage tissue. The serum E 2 content and OPG mRNA level in the cartilagetissue were significantly down-regulated ( P <0.01), and urine CTX-Ⅰ and CTX-Ⅱ contents and RANKL mRNA and MMP-13 mRNA expression levels cartilagetissue were considerably up-regulated in the model group relevant to the sham group ( P <0.01). After EA intervention, modeling-induced decrease of BV/TV, Tb.N, Tb.Th, E 2 and OPG mRNA levels and OVX-induced increase of Tb.Sp, Mankin's score, CTX-Ⅰ， CTX-Ⅱ， RANKL mRNA and MMP-13 mRNA levels were all completely reversed in the EA group relevant to the model group ( P <0.01， P <0.05)．., Conclusion: EA intervention can inhibit subchondral bone osteoporosis and articular cartilage degeneration of knee-joint in OVX rats, which is closely associated with its effects in inhibiting the down-regulation of serum E 2 and OPG mRNA expression and up-regulation of CTX-Ⅰ， CTX-Ⅱ， RANKL mRNA and MMP-13 mRNA levels, including adjusting OPG/RANK/RANKL signaling.
