To study the genetic polymorphism and population genetic parameters of 16 X-STR loci in Xinjiang Uygur population.The GoldenIn the 16 X-STR loci, a total of 67 alleles were detected in 502 Xinjiang Uygur unrelated individuals. The allele frequencies ranged from 0.001 3 to 0.572 4. PIC ranged from 0.568 8 to 0.855 3. The cumulative discrimination power in females and males were 0.999 999 999 999 999 and 0.999 999 999 743 071, respectively. The cumulative mean paternity exclusion chance in trios and in duos were 0.999 999 997 791 859 and 0.999 998 989 000 730, respectively. The genetic distance between Uygur population and Kazakh population was closer, and the genetic distance between Uygur and Han population was farther.The 16 X-STR loci are highly polymorphic and suitable for identification in Uygur population, which can provide a powerful supplement for the study of individual identification, paternity identification and population genetics.

To estimate the system efficiency of uncle-nephew relationship identification by increasing STR markers and adding reference samples based on the test results of simulated data and real samples, so as to provide references for selecting the appropriate number of STRs and reference samples for uncle-nephew relationship identification.Five common models of uncle-nephew relationship identification were constructed by adding different reference samples. In each model, the likelihood ratio (LR) for 10 000 pairs of uncle-nephew relationships and 10 000 pairs of unrelated individuals were simulated by detecting 19, 39 or 55 STRs, and the system efficiency at different thresholds was simulated. The samples of the Han population in Zhejiang were collected, and 55 autosomal STRs were obtained by using SiFaSTRUnder the same detection system, the calculated results of simulated data and corresponding true samples were basically consistent. In the same model, there was a positive correlation between the system efficiency of uncle-nephew relationship identification and the number of STRs detected. Moreover, the system efficiency of introducing relatives was higher than identifying only two individuals. The order of preference for the introduction of relatives was the full sibling (or mother) of the uncle and the full sibling (or mother) of the nephew.The system efficiency of uncle-nephew relationship identification could be improved by increasing the number of STRs and introducing known relatives, which would provide the basis for selecting the most appropriate detection system and reference individuals in actual cases.

This retrospective study aims to compare the clinical characteristics and outcomes in COVID-19 patients with or without hypertension.Methods: A total of 944 hospitalized patients with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 were included from January to March 2020. Information from the medical record, including clinical features, radiographic and laboratory results, complications, treatments, and clinical outcomes, were extracted for the analysis.Results: A total of 311 (32.94%) patients had comorbidity with hypertension. In COVID-19 patients with hypertension, the coexistence of type 2 diabetes (56.06% vs 43.94%), coronary heart disease (65.71% vs 34.29%), poststroke syndrome (68.75% vs 31.25%) and chronic kidney diseases (77.78% vs 22.22%) was significantly higher, while the coexistence of hepatitis B infection (13.04% vs 86.96%) was significantly lower than in COVID-19 patients without hypertension. Computed tomography (CT) chest scans show that COVID-19 patients with hypertension have higher rates of pleural effusion than those without hypertension (56.60% vs 43.40%). In addition, the levels of blood glucose [5.80 (IQR, 5.05– 7.50) vs 5.39 (IQR, 4.81– 6.60)], erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) [28 (IQR, 17.1– 55.6) vs 21.8 (IQR, 11.5– 44.1), P=0.008], C-reactive protein (CRP) [17.92 (IQR, 3.11– 46.6) vs 3.15 (IQR, 3.11– 23.4), P=0.013] and serum amyloid A (SAA) [99.28 (IQR, 8.85– 300) vs 15.97 (IQR, 5.97– 236.1), P=0.005] in COVID-19 patients with hypertension were significantly higher than in patients without hypertension.Conclusion: It is common for patients with COVID-19 to have the coexistence of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease and so on, which may exacerbate the severity of COVID-19. Domain knowledge graph has become a research focus in the era of artificial intelligence. Radio transmission equipment type approval is the core function of radio equipment management. This paper introduces construction process of the radio transmission equipment type approval knowledge graph, and analyses algorithms of the knowledge graph by category, which is a great tool for knowledge mining. The question answering construction over the knowledge graph is also discussed as an application, which has laid the foundation for further research in radio regulatory knowledge graph.

Intermittent hypoxia is a characteristic pathological change in obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) that can initiate oxidative stress reaction and pro-inflammatory cytokine release. The purpose of this study was to assess the effect and protective mechanism of Astragaloside IV (AS-IV) in intermittent hypoxia-induced human lung epithelial Beas-2B cells. Human lung epithelial Beas-2B cells were exposed to intermittent hypoxia or normoxia in the absence or presence of AS-IV. MTT assay was performed to determine the cell viability. The levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), malonaldehyde (MDA), and superoxide dismutase (SOD) were measured to evaluate oxidative stress. The levels of cytokines interleukin (IL)-8, IL-1β, and IL-6 were evaluated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and real-time PCR. The expression of Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK), and nuclear transcription factor-kappa B (NF-κB) signalling pathways was analysed by western blot. The results showed that AS-IV significantly reduced the levels of ROS, LDH, MDA, IL-8, IL-1β, and IL-6, and increased the level of SOD in intermittent hypoxia-induced Beas-2B cells. It also suppressed the phosphorylation of MAPKs, including P38, c-Jun N-terminal kinase and extracellular signal-regulated kinase, and inhibited the activation of the NF-κB signalling pathway by reducing the phosphorylation of IκBα and p65. AS-IV attenuates inflammation and oxidative stress by inhibiting TLR4-mediated MAPK/NF-κB signalling pathways in intermittent hypoxia-induced Beas-2B cells.

A new and straightforward method has been developed to synthesize polysubstituted benzo[g]chrysene (BgCh) according to controlling the exact stoichiometry of FeCl3 from diphenylacetypene and phenylacetaldehyde derivatives under mild conditions. The BgCh derivatives can also be functionalized by halogenation with Cl, Br and I on the newly built aromatic ring. All the compounds have been fully characterized as well as their photophysical properties, and some of them demonstrated extraordinary liquid crystallinity. The compounds 4e, 4h, 5e and 5h exhibited hexagonal columnar mesophases (Colh). In particular, 5h showed a rectangular columnar plastic phase (Colrp) under 35 °C on cooling. The fluorescence spectra of BgCh revealed a strong emission peak at 405 nm and a shoulder peak near 424 nm in DCM in the range of blue light.

To explore the distribution of inflammatory cells and positive expression of P-se- lectin glycoprotein ligand-1 (PSGL-1) in infant brainstem tissue from hand-foot-mouth disease related fatal brainstem encephalitis.Twenty brainstem samples from infants suffered from brainstem en- cephalitis were collected as the experimental group. Ten brainstem samples from infants died of non- brain diseases and injuries were collected as the control group. The distribution of inflammatory cells and the expression of PSGL-1 in the two groups were examined by immunohistochemical method. The characteristics of the positive cells were observed.In brainstem tissue of the experimental group, there were sleeve infiltrations of inflammatory cells around the vessels and in the glial nodule. Microglia was the most and following was neutrophils around the vessels and in the glial nodule. There was a significant statistical difference among microglias, neutrophils and lymphocytes (P0.05). There was no sleeve infiltration in the control group. PSGL-1 protein was expressed widely in inflammatory cells in the experimental group, especially in the inflammatory cells around the vessels and in the glial nodule. But PSGL-1 positive staining could be observed significantly less in the control group comparing with the experimental group (P0.05).Microglia is the main type of inflammatory cells involved in the progress of the fatal disease. Moreover, PSGL-1 could participate in the pathogenesis of hand-foot-mouth disease related fatal brainstem encephalitis.

In recent years, many studies found that hair cortisol can serve as a good biomarker of chronic stress. A high-performance liquid chromatography-Fluorescence (HPLC-Flu) method for the determination of hair cortisol based on novel packed nanofiber solid-phase extraction (PFSPE) was established. The incubation solution of hair samples was extracted by the new type of PFSPE column. The column was eluted with 100 μL of ethanol, and then 230 μL of concentrated sulfuric acid was added into the eluant and retained for 2 min. The mixture of reactants and water was secondly extracted by the PFSPE column, in which the target compounds were desorbed with 50 μL of methanol directly. The detection limit of cortisol was 0.5 ng g −1 (signal-to-noise ratio of 3). The within-run and between-day precisions (RSD) were below 6.8% and 8.9%, and the average recovery of cortisol spiked into the hair samples was 88.9%. The method of pretreatment is simple, fast and green. Moreover, the established method can be used to determine the level of cortisol in hair samples, which is a simple, inexpensive determination method for applications in physiology, psychiatry, sports medicine, cognitive science, psychology and other areas of research.

Two series 3-armed dendritic molecules with their 1,3,5-tris(4-methyloxyphenyl) benzene or 2,4,6-tris(4- hydroxylphenyl)-1,3,5-s-triazine core and triphenylene derivative shells connected by soft hydrocarbon chains have been synthesised and fully characterised. Whether liquid crystal (LC) or photoluminescence materials have been tuned by changing the length of the soft chain and they have been studied by POM, DSC, XRD, UV-Vis and PL. The results show that all the new dendritic compounds display UV to blue fluorescence in solvents such as DCM, THF and acetone. The TC3 compound bearing 1,3,5-tris(4-hydroxylphenyl) benzene core exhibits LC property with rectangular columnar phase (Colr) on cooling.

For the first time, electrospun composite nanofibers comprising polymeric crown ether with polystyrene (PCE-PS) have been used for the selective extraction of catecholamines - dopamine (DA), norepinephrine (NE) and epinephrine (E) - prior to their analysis by high-performance liquid chromatography-electrochemical detection. Using a minicartridge packed with PCE-PS composite nanofibers, the target compounds were extracted effectively from urine samples to which diphenylborinic acid 2-aminoethyl ester was added as a complexing reagent. The extracted catecholamines could be liberated from the fiber by the addition of acetic acid. A good linearity was observed for catecholamines in the range of 2.0-200 ng mL(-1) (NE, E and DA). The detection limits of catecholamines (signal-to-noise ratio = 3) were 0.5 ng mL(-1) (NE), 0.2 ng mL(-1) (E) and 0.2 ng mL(-1) (DA), respectively. Under the optimized conditions, the absolute recoveries of the above three catecholamines were 90.6% (NE), 88.5% (E) and 94.5% (DA). The repeatability of extraction performance was from 5.4 to 9.2% (expressed as relative standard deviation). Our results indicate that the proposed method could be used for the determination of NE, E and DA in urine.

To determine the relationship between maternal and neonatal vitamin D status and related factors.Serum 25-(OH)D levels were measured by ELISA in 499 pregnant women at 30 - 37 weeks gestation and in cord blood of their infants born at term (37 - 42 wk gestation) in Southeastern China at 28.9°N latitude. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to explore maternal and neonatal vitamin D levels by season. Pearson linear and linear regression of partial correlation was used to analyze the relationship between maternal and neonatal 25-(OH) D levels. The multiple factors related to maternal vitamin D status was assessed by binary logistic regression.The levels of serum 25-(OH)D were (33.0 ± 13.4) nmol/L in mothers and (31.0 ± 12.5) nmol/L in their newborns. Serum 25-(OH)D50 nmol/L was shown in 88.8% of mothers and 91.2% of their neonates. Both maternal and neonatal 25-(OH)D levels varied with season (Ps = 0.000). Vitamin D level was the lowest in spring, with the 25-(OH)D concentration50 nmol/L in 98.6% of mothers and 99.3% of their neonates. The highest vitamin D level was presented in fall, but there were still 64.0% of mothers and 75.0% of neonates with 25-(OH)D50 nmol/L. Except for season, calcium-vitamin D supplement and intake of egg ≥ 600 g per week during pregnancy benefited to improve maternal vitamin D level [25-(OH)D ≥ 50 nmol/L] [OR = 2.3 (95%CI:1.0, 5.3), 3.4 (95%CI:1.2, 9.9) respectively]. There was a positive correlation between maternal and neonatal 25-(OH)D measures in the sample as a whole (r = 0.45, P = 0.000, N = 499), the correlation was of no statistical significance when maternal serum 25-(OH)D was ≤ 25 nmol/L.Hypovitaminosis D was common in late pregnant mothers and their newborns in southeastern China, especially in spring. Vitamin D supplement and intake of vitamin D-rich food were beneficial to improvement of maternal vitamin D level. There was a moderate and positive correlation between maternal and neonatal 25-(OH)D concentrations in this population. The correlation was lost when maternal serum 25-(OH)D ≤ 25 nmol/L.

Background Recent studies have suggested that vitamin D deficiency in children is widespread. But the vitamin D status of Chinese children is seldom investigated. The objective of the present study was to survey the serum levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] in more than 6,000 children aged 1 month to 16 years in Hangzhou (latitude: 30°N), the capital of Zhejiang Province, southeast China. Methods The children aged 1 month to 16 years who came to the child health care department of our hospital, the children's hospital affiliated to Zhejiang university school of medicine, for health examination were taken blood for 25(OH) D measurement. Serum 25(OH) D levels were determined by direct enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and categorized as < 25, < 50, and < 75 nmol/L. Results A total of 6,008 children aged 1 month to 16 years participated in this cross-sectional study. All the subjects were divided into subgroups according to their age: 0-1y, 2-5y, 6-11y and 12-16y representing infancy, preschool, school age and adolescence stages respectively. The highest mean level of serum 25(OH)D was found in the 0-1y stage (99 nmol/L) and the lowest one was found in 12-16y stage (52 nmol/L). Accordingly, the prevalence of serum 25(OH)D levels of < 75 nmol/L and < 50 nmol/L were at the lowest among infants (33.6% and 5.4% respectively) and rose to the highest among adolescents (89.6% and 46.4% respectively). The mean levels of serum 25(OH)D and the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency changed according to seasons. In winter and spring, more than 50% of school age children and adolescents had a 25(OH)D level at < 50 nmol/L. If the threshold is changed to < 75 nmol/L, all of the adolescents (100%) had low 25(OH)D levels in winter and 93.7% school age children as well. Conclusions The prevalence of vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency among children in Hangzhou Zhejiang province is high, especially among children aged 6-16 years. We suggest that the recommendation for vitamin D supplementation in Chinese children should be extended to adolescence.

Herein reported is the first two-dimensional coordination polymer capable of undergoing thermally induced and photoinduced valence tautomeric transitions.

Three-year-old 'Zaozhong No. 6' loquat (Eriobotrya japonica Lindl.) seedlings were foliar-sprayed with 0.2, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 mmol x L(-1) of sodium nitroprusside (SNP), subjected to low temperature (-3 degrees) stress for 6 hours, and then cultured at 25 degrees C for four days. The antioxidant metabolites and enzymes in the seedling leaves were determined 0, 1, and 4 days after recovery. Comparing with the control (water spraying), all SNP treatments had a decreased H2O2 content but an increased content of glutathione (GSH) and ascorbic acid (AsA) and increased activity of ascorbate peroxidase (APX), glutathione reductase (GR), dehydroascorbate reductase (DHAR) and monodehydroascorbate reductase (MDAR) in the seedling leaves. Four days after recovery, the H2O2 content in the seedling leaves treated with 0.5 mmol x L(-1) of SNP decreased by 75.53%, while the GSH and AsA contents and the APX, GR, DHAR and MDAR activities were increased by 29.12%, 23.40%, 50.0%, 44.4%, 49.53%, and 62.68%, respectively. All of these suggested that appropriate dosage of exogenous NO could enhance the activity of antioxidant system in loquat leaves and alleviated the cell injury of loquat leaves under low temperature stress. In this study, the appropriate dosage of NO was 0.5 mmol x L(-1) of SNP.

To study the difference of behavior problems in school aged children with cleft of lip and/or palate.The Rutter Children Behavior Parent Checklist was used in 100 school aged children with cleft lip and/or palate and 135 school aged normal children in Shanghai.The questionnaire were filled and analyzed with chi2 test and logistic regression using SPSS 10.0 software packageîThe positive rate of Rutter behavior problems in school aged children with cleft of lip and/or palate was significantly higher than that in normal children (P0.05). The positive rate of behavior problems and Rutter behavior problem A in boys was significantly higher than in girls.Primary mental health intervention is necessary to promote the psychiatric health.

A C12 biochip system using 12 tumor markers has been developed in China for serum diagnosis of common cancers. This work is to evaluate this C12 system in the diagnosis of gastric cancer.Sera from 100 gastric carcinoma patients were screened for 12 tumor markers including carcinoembryonic antigen, alpha-fetoprotein, carbohydrate antigen 19-9, carbohydrate antigen 242, cancer antigen 15-3, cancer antigen 125, prostate specific antigen, free-PSA, neuron-specific enolase, human chorionic gonagotropin-beta, human growth hormone, and ferritin, using the C12 biochip system. The most relevant tumor marker and the contribution of the tumor markers to the improvement of diagnosis were determined.The overall diagnostic rate of C12 biochip system was 37%, and 7.8%, 29.4%, 35.5% and 50%, respectively, for stages I, II, III and IV patients. The differences in diagnostic rates between stage I (7.8%) and stage IV (50%) reached statistical significance (chi-square test, Chi2=7.20, p0.01). Among all the 12 markers, carbohydrate antigen 19-9 had the highest positive rate up to 23%, against which any form of combinations of 5 most relevant tumor markers (2, 3, 4 or 5 markers combined) could not significantly improve the diagnostic rate.The C12 biochip system has some value in the diagnosis of advanced stage gastric cancer, but less sensitive in early gastric cancer.

To evaluate the effect of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) and vitamin C on the progression of experimental autoimmune myocarditis(EAM).Fifty-two Balb/c mice were randomized into six groups: The blank group received no treatment, the remaining 5 groups were immunized with 100mug emulsified porcine myosin at d 1 and d 7. Different agents were injected from d 1, SVitC group:150 mg/kg*d(-1)vitamin C; LVitC group: 300 mg/kg*d(-1)vitamin C; IVIG group: 1 g/kg*d(-1)IVIG; IVIG+VitC group: 1 g/kg*d(-1)IVIG and 150 mg/kg*d(-1)vitamin C; The control group same volume of normal saline. All mice were sacrificed at d 21, and serum TNF-alpha levels were detected with enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The ratio of heart to body weight(C/W), spleen to body weight(S/W) and kidney to body weigh(R/W) were calculated. The spleens and heart were examined pathologically and/or immunohistochemically.Compared with those of control group, inflammatory cells infiltration in the myocardium and calcification in the pericardiume in SVitC and LVitC groups were extenuated. There were inflammatory cells infiltrating in the myocardium sparely and no calcification in the pericardium in IVIG and IVIG+VitC groups. The size of spleens enlarged especially in IVIG and IVIG+VitC groups. White and red pulps of spleens were hyperplastic microscopically. The C/W of treatment groups decreased significantly compared with that of control group. The S/W of therapy groups and control group was significantly higher than that of blank group; and the S/W of IVIG and IVIG + VitC groups was significantly higher than that of SVitC and LVitC groups. The R/W in each groups had no significant difference. The TNF-alpha level in SVitC and LVitC groups was a little lower than that in control group; TNF-alpha level in IVIG and IVIG+VitC groups was significantly lower than that of control group. Wide fluorescence stripe was found along extracellular matrix surrounding the damaged cardiomyocytes of control group. Both density and intensity of fluorescence in SVitC and LVitC groups were lower than those of control group. There were much wider fluorescence stripe and strengthened intensity in IVIG and IVIG + VitC groups. The myofilaments were in wild disorder and sarcomere had severe breakage in control group. Moreover, chondriosome hypertrophy and vacuolar degeneration were found. The damage lessened in SVitC and LVitC groups. Both myofilaments and sarcomeres in IVIG and IVIG + VitC groups were almost normal, and the chondriosome was normal.IVIG and vitamin C have some protective and therapeutic effect on the progression of EAM by decreasing pathological damage of myocardium and depressing TNF-alpha production, and IVIG combined with vitamin C is more effective.

Measurement of blood tumor markers is the most widely used and convenient method for the diagnosis of colorectal cancer(CRC). This study was to evaluate the diagnostic value of a biochip diagnostic system C12 in the diagnosis of CRC.Twelve tumor markers were detected in the sera of 130 pathologically confirmed CRC patients, including carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9), carbohydrate antigen 242 (CA242), cancer antigen 15-3 (CA15-3), cancer antigen 125 (CA125), prostate specific antigen (PSA), free-PSA(f-PSA), neuron-specific enolase (NSE), human chorionic gonagotropin-beta (beta-HCG), human growth hormone (HGH), and ferritin, using the C12 diagnostic biochip system. The most relevant tumor markers and the most useful combinations of tumor markers were determined.The overall diagnostic rate for the 130 patients was 42.3%; and the diagnostic rates were 13.6%, 39.5%, 38.2% and 68.8%, for stages I, II, III and IV patients, respectively. There was significant difference in the diagnostic rates between stage I and stage IV patients. Among all the 12 markers, CEA had the highest diagnostic rate of 35.4%. Any combinations of the 5 most relevant tumor markers did not significantly improve the diagnostic rate. However, the combination of 4 markers (CEA+f-PSA +CA125+CA242 or CEA+CA19-9+CA125+f-PSA) was as good as 12 markers in terms of diagnosis.The C12 biochip diagnostic system has some value in the diagnosis of advanced CRC, but its sensitivity for the diagnosis of early CRC is not satisfactory.

To study the incidence of viraemia and extraintestinal organ damage in children with acute rotavirus (RV) gastroenteritis.Eighty-three children with acute rotavirus gastroenteritis were hospitalized from October 2002 to March 2003, whose blood and fecal samples were obtained on admission. Rotavirus RNA (encoding the VP7 outer capsid protein) were detected in blood and fecal samples by nest reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). According to the result of blood RV-RNA, the patients were divided into RV-RNA positive group and RV-RNA negative group. The differences between these two groups in the severity of gastroenteritis and extraintestinal organ damage were analyzed.Eighty-two of 83 stool samples from the children with rotavirus infection were positive for rotavirus RNA. Sixteen of 83 blood samples were positive for rotavirus RNA with a positive rate of 19.3%. The nucleotide sequence of cloned cDNAs, resembling part of the VP7 gene, was identical from paired blood and fecal samples. There were no significant differences between blood RV-RNA positive group and blood RV-RNA negative group in the rate and degree of fever, diarrhea, dehydration, metabolic acidosis, hypokalemia and myocardial damage (P0.05); while the incidences of liver damage, rash, lower respiratory tract infection and the central nervous system involvement in the blood RV-RNA positive group were significantly higher than those in the blood RV-RNA negative group (P0.05).Viraemia is present in the children with acute rotavirus gastroenteritis. Viraemia might be an important mechanism by which rotavirus spread to the extraintestinal sites resulting in organs damage.

Abnormal hyperphosphorylation of the cytoskeletal protein tau is a characteristic feature of neurodegeneration in Alzheimer's disease (AD) brain. Okadaic acid (OA), a protein phosphatase inhibitor, induces neuronal death and hyperphosphorylation of tau. In the present study using a model of microinjection of OA into rat frontal cortex, we aimed to investigate if OA-induced hyperphosphorylation of tau and neuronal death are related to the expression of Bcl-2, an apoptosis inhibitor, or Bax, an apoptosis inducer. Immunohistochemistry and Western blot analysis showed that OA injection dose- and time-dependently induced the expression of Bcl-2 and Bax protein in the surrounding of OA injection areas, which were similar with that of AT8 immunostaining, a marker of hyperphosphorylated tau. However, the ratios of Bcl-2 over Bax had a negative relationship to the expression of AT8. Furthermore, double fluorescent staining showed that AT8-positive neurons mainly costained with terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated deoxyuridinetriphosphate nick-end labeling, a marker of DNA damage, indicating that tau hyperphosphorylation may be associated with DNA damage in the neurons of rat brain. In the areas more adjacent to the OA injection site, most neurons with AT8-positive staining showed vulnerability to OA toxicity and could be triple-stained with Bcl-2 and Bax or double-stained with Bcl-2. However, in the areas further from the OA injection site, neurons with few AT8-positive staining showed resistance to OA toxicity and only stained with Bcl-2, but not Bax. The results suggest that the ratios of Bcl-2 over Bax expression may have an effect on tau hyperphosphorylation and neuronal death following OA injection. © 2005 Wiley-Liss, Inc.

To investigate molecular epidemiologic features of rotavirus (RV) infection in infantile diarrhea in Hangzhou area.Stool specimens of 683 infants with suspected acute viral enteritis in the autumn and winter of 2001 - 2003 were collected. RV (group A) was detected by using latex agglutination test (LAT). VP7 serotype (G) positive specimens were detected by using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and then the RNA of the virus was determined with reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). cDNA of VP7 gene fragment was sequenced by automatic gene analyzor (ABI3730) and compared with the RV VP7 gene sequences stored in Genebank.RV was detected in 297 of 683 (43.5%) specimens by LAT. The highest frequency of RV (group A) detected was 52.9% (228/431) in patients aged 7 - 18 months. The prevalent serotypes were G1 (36.7%, 109/297) and G3 (30.9%, 92/297), followed by mixed type (11.8%, 35/297), untyped (9.4%, 28/297), G4 (7.1%, 21/297) and G2 (4.0%, 12/297). The prevalent serotypes seen each year were different. G1 (54.9%, 45/82) was the major serotype in 2001 followed by G3 (14.6%, 12/82). In 2003, the major serotype was G3 (43.0%, 63/146) and followed by G1 (29.5%, 43/146). The reliability of ELISA was confirmed by RT-PCR, gene sequencing and homology analysis.The main prevalent serotypes of VP7 of rotavirus were G1 and G3. The dominant serotypes of rotavirus varied in Hangzhou area from 2001 to 2003.

To investigate the relationship of serum dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) levels and female precocious puberty.The serum levels of DHEA and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS) were measured by ELISA in 60 idiopathic central precocious puberty (ICPP) girls, 62 premature thelarche (PT) girls and 31 age-matched health prepuberty girls. Bone age,volume of uterus and ovary, DHEA and DHEAS were re-measured in 3, 12 months after treatment with Diphereline in ICPP girls.(1) The Log(DHEA) and Log(DHEAS) were (0.81 +/-0.36)microg/L and (2.31 +/-0.31)microg/L in ICPP group, (0.72 +/-0.30)microg/L and (2.31 +/-0.28)mg/L in PT group, and (0.32 +/-0.26)microg/L and (2.16+/-0.27)microg/L in controls (P0.05). However, no significant differences were found between ICPP and PT group (P0.05). Moreover, the serum levels of DHEA and DHEAS in precocious puberty girls with Tanner III stage were significant higher than those with Tanner II stage (P0.05). (2) With bivariate correlation analysis, Log(DHEA) was positively correlated with height, bone age, volume of uterus and ovary (r=0.429, 0.339, 0.217, 0.282; all P0.05), while no significant correlation with Log(LH peak), Log(FSH peak) and BMI (r=0.135, -0.165, 0.059). Log(DHEAS) was positively correlated with height,bone age and volume of ovary (r=0.319, 0.210, 0.181; P0.05), while no correlated with Log(LH peak), Log(FSH peak), volume of uterus and BMI (r=0.012, -0.173, 0.146 and 0.081 respectively). (3) Serum Log (DHEA) and Log(DHEAS) of 32 ICPP were decreased from (0.83 +/-0.35) microg/L and (2.27 +/-0.30)microg/L to (0.68 +/-0.44)microg/L and (2.11 +/-0.43)microg/L (P0.05) 3 months after treatment. The serum Log(DHEA) and Log(DHEAS) in 12 months after treatment were (0.78 +/-0.30)microg/L and (2.40+/-0.34)microg/L, which was not significantly different with that before treatment (P0.05). However, the volume of uterus and ovary, bone age/age in 12 months after treatment were significantly different with those before treatment (2.82 +/-1.52 compared with 1.09 +/-0.50 ml, 3.15 +/-1.13 compared with 1.18 +/-0.42 ml, 1.43 +/-0.23 compared with 1.25 +/-0.12, all P0.05).(1) The serum levels of DHEA and DHEAS are increased in precocious puberty girls with the development of Tanner stage. (2) Serum levels of DHEA and DHEAS are declined transiently when the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis is inhibited. (3) Serum DHEA is associated with the acceleration of growth and bone age in precocious puberty girls.

To analyze factors relevant to retarded intellectual development in infants born to mothers with autoimmune disease of thyroid.All the term newborns born to mothers with autoimmune thyroid disease (selection criteria) without asphyxia in all county, city, and provincial hospitals in Zhejiang province (except for Ningbo City) from July 2001 to June 2003 were enrolled through Zhejiang provincial neonatal disease screening network system. The control group was consisted of the neonates who were born to mothers without thyroid disease in these hospitals during the same period. Heel capillary blood samples were collected from the neonates older than 3 days in local hospitals and sent to the center of Zhejiang provincial neonatal disease screening network system. TSH levels were measured by Time Difference Fluorescent Analysis Device (1420 II type, EGG Company, US). If the level of TSH was higher than 9 mU/L, their mothers were called back to the center with their infants within 3 days. If the level of TSH was normal, they were called back to hospitals at age of 28 - 35 days of infants. The pattern of maternal thyroid disease, duration, thyroid function, the history of maternal drug administration, maternal age, gestational age and body weight of the neonates were recorded. The neonatal and maternal serum thyroid function tests were re-performed and the serum TPOAb, TGAb, TRAb and TSAb levels in both neonates and their mothers were measured as well. A 1-year follow-up study was done and all these subjects were investigated by means of Gesell development schedules by special investigators at the age of 1, 3, 6 and 12 months. The results were expressed as developmental quotient. Case-sectional study was performed. Statistical analyses were conducted using SPSS software. The multiple logistic regression analysis was used to analyze factors which might have effect on infantile personal-social ability, adaptive ability, gross motor ability or the fine-motor ability. One-way ANOVA was used to compare those five subfields ability followed by LSD multiple comparisons and Dunnet's C test was used when variances were not equal. Correlation analysis was used to compare the anti-thyroid antibody between neonates and their mothers.Poor personal-social ability, adaptive ability, gross motor ability and fine motor ability of infants born to mothers with autoimmune thyroid diseases were found as compared to the infants born to healthy mothers (P0.01). Moreover, the infants born to mothers with Hashimoto's thyroiditis had significantly poorer fine motor ability and adaptive ability than those born to mothers with Grave's disease (P0.05). The Spearman correlation coefficients of TPOAb, TGAb, TRAb and TSAb were 0.636, 0.574, 0.619 and 0.473, respectively, and all the P values were lower than 0.01.The multifactor logistic regression analysis showed that infantile TPOAb levels and maternal TRAb levels were associated with infantile personal-social ability, adaptive ability, and gross motor; while maternal TPOAb levels and thyroid function during gestation were associated with infantile fine-motor ability (P0.05).Maternal autoimmune thyroid diseases during pregnancy had adverse effects on intellectual development of infants. The maternal levels of TPOAb, TRAb and thyroid status were associated with the infantile personal-social ability, adaptive ability, gross motor and fine motor development. In order to reduce the effect on infant, it is necessary to treat adequately the maternal autoimmune thyroid diseases during pregnancy.
