The purpose of this study was to determine the serum uric acid levels and the prevalence of hyperuricemia among Chinese adults in 2015 and compare the differences between urban and rural areas, as well as the differences between eastern, central, and western regions.A national representative sample of 180,208 participants were included using a stratified, multistage, and random sampling method. The demographic characteristics and blood samples were collected to determine the serum uric acid levels and prevalence of hyperuricemia among subgroups using complicated sampling weight. AThe weighted mean uric acid level in Chinese adults was 310.4 μmol/L (317.5 μmol/L in urban areas and 302.9 μmol/L in rural areas). The weighted average values of uric acid in eastern, central, and western China were 315.5 μmol/L, 303.5 μmol/L, and 310.4 μmol/L, respectively. The weighted prevalence of hyperuricemia in Chinese adults was 14.6%, with a prevalence of 16.5% in urban areas and 12.5% in rural areas. The weighted prevalence of hyperuricemia in eastern, central, and western China was 16.0%, 12.5%, and 14.8%, respectively.The uric acid level in Chinese adults is relatively high. Effective actions are warranted to improve this metabolic abnormality.

Circular RNAs (circRNA) have been reported as regulators involved in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but their mechanism of activity remains unknown. This study performed quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction to determine if circNFATC3 was downregulated in 46 paired HCC tissues and cell lines. 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide, apoptotic, and transwell assay proved that circNFATC3 can inhibit hepatoma cell proliferation, apoptosis, and migration/invasion in vitro. Mouse xenograft assay demonstrated that circNFATC3 suppressed tumor size and weight and reduced lung metastasis in vivo, and vice versa. The RNA-seq results showed that NFATC3 itself was the most significantly differentially expressed gene when circNFATC3 was manipulated, and bioinformatics and luciferase reporter assays verified circNFATC3 regulated the expression of NFATC3 by interacting with the hsa-miR-548I. Additionally, it was also indicated that the level of NFATC3 was downregulated in HCC patients also and was significantly correlated with the staging and prognosis of HCC. Moreover, both circNFATC3 and NFATC3 were shown to inhibit the phosphorylation of JNK, c-Jun, AKT, and mTOR signaling pathways. Overall, the circNFATC3 can sponge miR-548I to protect NFATC3 itself, then it regulates hepatoma cell function via the JNK, c-Jun, AKT, and mTOR signaling pathways, and the circNFATC3 can be a tumor-repressor on HCC.

The Landsat TM/ETM+/OLI remote sensing images as of 1991, 1995, 1999, 2004, 2009, and 2013 were selected as data sources to analyze large scale range coastal wetland degradation in the Yellow River Delta in the view of landscape and land use. The Markov process model was applied to simulate and predict the evolution trends of coastal wetlands of 2021 in the region. Results showed that the most serious wetland degradation in the Yellow River Delta appeared in the two periods of 1999-2004 and 2004-2009. The area proportion of degraded wetlands to the total natural wetlands was nearly 40%. The wetland degradation in the study area had been alleviated to a certain degree since 2009. Up to 2021, the proportion of wetlands to land area would fall to 60%. Compared with 2013, the proportion of natural wetland and constructed wetland would decrease by 4.52 percent point and 3.08 percent point, respectively. The area of marshes, shrub wetlands, forest wetlands, and salt marshes would decline by 32.21, 15.76, 19.33 km2 and 74.86 km2, respectively. Therefore, the ecological protection and restoration work of coastal wetlands in the Yellow River Delta will be still arduous in the future.

Based on 7 remote sensing images from 1984 to 2015, we obtained information of change rates, centroids, and landscape characteristics of artificial wetlands of the Yellow River Delta (YRD) by visual interpretation of remote sensing images in order to explore spatial and temporal change of artificial wetlands in the YRD during the past 31 years. Then, we studied the change process by quantitative analysis and the driving factors of the artificial wetlands by qualitative analysis. The area of the artificial wetlands in the YRD increased to 85 762.13 hm2 during the last 31 years. Areas of soak, artificial channel, culture pond, paddy field, salt field, and reservoir increased to 14 620.29, 1 128.18, 22 648.13, 30 648.51, 11 220.69 hm2, and 5 246.61 hm2 with annual change rates of 55.52%, 24.93%, 10.25%, 22.84%, 174.32%, and 13.09%, respectively. From the centroid analysis results we found that areas of soak, and culture pond had a trend of "Southeast then Northwest" and salt fields had a trend of moving to the eastern offshore. Besides, the reservoir had a trend of moving to southeast first, then shifting to the south as a whole and artificial channels were arranged in a "Z-shape" along the Yellow River. Under the various factors, the patches of artificial wetlands increased while the area-weighted mean shape index, patch size standard deviation, Shannon's diversity index, and Shannon's evenness index increased first and then decreased. Our results indicated that artificial wetlands in the YRD during the past 31 years have changed considerably, as indicated by various factors, and the results could provide theoretical directions for the development, use, management, and protection of wetland resources.

Chronic hepatitis B virus infection has become a major public health issue worldwide, which can lead to liver inflammation, fibrosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. According to the inflammation activity, liver tissues can be divided into 5 grades (G0-G4). However, the mechanism of the development of liver inflammation remains unclear. In our study, expression profiling by microarray and bioinformatics technology was used to systemically identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between low grades (G0-G1) and high (G2-G4) grades of liver inflammation. Gene Ontology (GO) enrichment analysis, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway enrichment analysis, and protein-protein interaction network construction were performed for further identification of the key functions, pathways, and hub genes that might play important roles in the inflammation development. A total of 1982 DEGs were identified, consisting of 1220 downregulated genes and 762 upregulated genes. GO analysis revealed the DEGs were mainly enriched in GO terms that related to neutrophil activation and degranulation. MAPK1, ITGA2, CDK2, TGFB1, CDKN2A, MTOR, IL6, PCNA, OAS2, and EP300 were hub genes that had the highest centricity and might be potential markers for inflammation development. This study identified the differentially expressed genes between different grades of inflammation, which would enlighten the study that focuses on the mechanism of liver inflammation development.

Objective To investigate nutritional treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the mainland China. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted in 116 ICUs of 118 mainland hospitals on April 26th, 2017. All patients of these ICUs were investigated at 0 o'clock on April 26th. Demographic and clinical parameters of those patients on April 25th (the investigation day) were recorded, including the dates of hospitalization, ICU admission and nutrition initiation and clinical outcome on 28 days after the investigation day. Results A total of 1953 patients were collected, including 631 females and 1306 males. The mean age was (64.1±19.3) years old (1950 cases). The means of Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS), Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) and Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation Ⅱ (APACHEⅡ) scores were (10.76±4.35)(1749 cases), (5.65±3.52)(1783 cases), (17.14±7.31)(1792 cases), respectively. The outcomes of 28 days after the investigation day were 1483 survivors (75.9%), 312 non-survivors (16.0%) and 158 cases (8.1%) being lost to follow-up. There were no significant differences between the males and the females in age, severity of disease and clinical outcomes of 28 days but in height and weight. There were 73.7%(1440 cases) of patients with normal or mildly injured gastrointestinal function, 10.8%(210 cases) with moderately or severely injured function, 1.7%(33 cases) with gastrointestinal failure and 13.2%(258 cases) without evaluation. To the investigation day, enteral nutrition (EN) had been initiated in 69.4%(1356 cases) of patients and parenteral nutrition (PN) in 36.4%(711 cases) of patients. There were 1720(88.1%) patients with EN administration on the investigation day. The proportion of patients with nausea, vomit/regurgitation, aspiration, abdominal pain, abdominal distention and diarrhea was 4.8%(93 cases), 5.4%(105 cases), 0.9%(17 cases), 8.7%(170 cases), 27.5%(538 cases) and 4.3%(84 cases) respectively, while that of patients using EN was 3.1%(40 cases), 4.25%(54 cases), 0.79%(10 cases), 4.41%(56 cases), 26.85%(341 cases) and 5.43%(69 cases) correspondingly. The proportion of cases starting EN within 24, 48 and 72 hours after ICU entry was 22.4%(437/1953), 38.6%(754/1953) and 46.6%(911/1953), respectively. The proportion of cases receiving ≥80% estimated energy target (=past body weight ×25 kcal/kg.d) within 3, 7 and 14 days after ICU entry was 12.9%(78/607), 18.7%(189/1010) and 23%(305/1325) respectively, while that of cases with EN was 9.9%(60/607), 15.0%(151/1010) and 18.6%(246/1325) correspondingly. Conclusions Nowadays, most of patients in the mainland ICUs receive nutrition therapy and the EN usage rate is much higher than the PN rate. However, the time of EN initiation and the target-reaching rate of energy are suboptimal and an individualized plan of nutrition therapy is still missing. In this paper, based on adaptive non-backstepping design algorithm, we proposed a novel variable universe fuzzy control (VUFC) algorithm for a class of MIMO nonlinear systems with unknown dead-zone inputs in pure-feedback form. First, by introducing some new states variables and coordinate transforms, the system is converted form the state-feedback control of pure-feedback form into the output-feedback control of normal form. Secondly, different from traditional backstepping scheme,we introduce contraction–expansion factors, combine non-backstepping control technique and VUFC scheme together to construct the controllers and observers. VUFC approach is mainly based on changing the contraction–expansion factor to change the universe of the variables (which can change the interpolation node encryption). It is shown that the proposed control approach is considerably simpler and better than the backstepping-based ones and it can improve the accuracy of the system, alleviate tracking error, strong robustness. At last, according to stable positive real (SPR)-Lyapunov stability analysis, it can guarantee that all the signals in the closed-loop system are bounded and the output can tack the reference signal to a small neighborhood of the origin. Simulations results are illustrated that the effectiveness of the proposed VUFC approach.

Fault-tolerant error-correction (FTEC) circuit is the foundation for achieving reliable quantum computation and remote communication. However, designing a fault-tolerant error correction scheme with a solid error-correction ability and low overhead remains a significant challenge. In this paper, a low-overhead fault-tolerant error correction scheme is proposed for quantum communication systems. Firstly, syndrome ancillas are prepared into Bell states to detect errors caused by channel noise. We propose a detection approach that reduces the propagation path of quantum gate fault and reduces the circuit depth by splitting the stabilizer generator into X-type and Z-type. Additionally, a syndrome extraction circuit is equipped with two flag qubits to detect quantum gate faults, which may also introduce errors into the code block during the error detection process. Finally, analytical results are provided to demonstrate the fault-tolerant performance of the proposed FTEC scheme with the lower overhead of the ancillary qubits and circuit depth.

Nutrition is closely related to the health of the elderly population. This study aimed to provide a comprehensive picture of the nutrition status of elderly Chinese and its related dietary, geographical, and socioeconomic factors.A total of 13,987 ≥ 60-year-old persons from the 2010-2013 Chinese National Nutrition and Health Survey were included to evaluate various aspects of malnutrition, including underweight, overweight or obesity, and micronutrient inadequacy.Overall, the prevalence of obesity, overweight, and underweight was 12.4%, 34.8%, and 5.7%, respectively, with disparities both geographically and socioeconomically. The prevalence of underweight was higher among the older old (≥ 75 years), rural residents and those with low income, with low education status, and residing in undeveloped West areas. More than 75% of the elderly do not meet the Dietary Reference Intakes for vitamins A, BObesity epidemic, inadequacy of micronutrient intake, and high prevalence of underweight and anemia in susceptible older people are the major nutrition challenges for the rapidly aging population in China.

Summary Background Few studies have used nationally representative data to describe dietary trends and the related cardiometabolic mortality burden in China. Thus, we aimed to characterise the trends in disease-related dietary factors as well as their associated disease burden among Chinese adults from 1982 to 2012. Methods For this cross-sectional population-based study, we analysed a nationally representative sample of 204 802 adults aged 20 years or older, using data from the 1982, 1992, 2002, and 2010–12 China National Nutrition Surveys (CNNS). We did a comparative risk assessment, in which the effects of suboptimal intakes of 12 dietary factors, individually and collectively, on cardiometabolic mortality were estimated by calculating the population attributable fraction (PAF) to estimate the proportional reduction in cardiometabolic deaths that would occur if exposure to each dietary risk factor was reduced to an alternative optimal level. Findings The overall PAF of mortality from cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes that was associated with suboptimal dietary quality was 62·2% in 1982, 57·9% in 1992, 56·2% in 2002, and 51·0% in 2010–12, which accounted for 21·6% of total mortality in China in 1982, 16·6% in 1992, 17·6% in 2002, and 20·8% in 2010–12. The estimated number of cardiometabolic deaths associated with suboptimal dietary intakes was 1·07 million in 1982, 0·93 million in 1992, 1·18 million in 2002, and 1·51 million in 2010–12. Of all 12 dietary factors examined, high sodium intake (17·3%), low fruit consumption (11·5%), and low marine omega-3 fatty acids (9·7%) were associated with the largest numbers of estimated cardiometabolic deaths in 2010–12. Interpretation We observed an improvement in several dietary factors in China in the past few decades. However, current intakes of these dietary factors remain suboptimal. Poor diet quality is estimated to be associated with a substantial proportion of deaths from heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes in China. Background: Lymphocytes were reported to play a significant part in host anticancer immune responses and influence tumour prognosis. Few studies have focused on the prognostic values of aspartate aminotransferase (AST) to lymphocyte ratio (ALRI), aspartate aminotransferase to platelet count ratio index (APRI) and systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treated with palliative treatments. Methods: Five hundred and ninety-eight HCC patients treated with palliative therapies were retrospectively analysed. We randomly assigned patients into the training cohort (429 patients) and the validation cohort I (169 patients). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to identify the best cut-off values for the ALRI, APRI and SII in the training cohort and the values were further validated in the validation cohort I. Correlations between ALRI and other clinicopathological factors were also analysed. A prognostic nomogram including ALRI was established. We validated the prognostic value of the ALRI, SII and APRI with two independent cohorts, the validation cohort II of 82 HCC patients treated with TACE and the validation cohort III of 150 HCC patients treated with curative resection. In the training cohort and all the validation cohorts, univariate analyses by the method of Kaplan-Meier and multivariate analysis by Cox proportional hazards regression model were carried out to identify the independent prognostic factors. Results: The threshold values of ALRI, APRI and SII were 86.3, 1.37 and 376.4 respectively identified by ROC curve analysis in the training cohort. Correlation analysis showed that ALRI>86.3 was greatly associated with higher rates of Child-Pugh B&C, portal vein tumor thrombosis (PVTT) and ascites (P < 0.05). Correspondingly, ALRI level of HCC patients with Child-Pugh B&C, PVTT and ascites was evidently higher than that of HCC patients with Child-Pugh A, without PVTT and without ascites (P < 0.001). In attempts to delay tumor progression after surgery or minimally invasive local treatments, multidisciplinary strategies have been broadly studied in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The objective of this present study was to evaluate the efficacy of autologous transplantations of cytokine-induced killer (CIK) cells as an adjuvant therapy for patients with HCC. A total of 264 patients with HCC were enrolled in this retrospective study. Of these patients, 165 received either CIK cell therapy alone or as adjuvant therapy to surgery, transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE), or TACE-based comprehensive treatments (CT). The remaining 99 patients received only surgery or TACE. Kaplan-Meier analysis and the Chi-squared test were used to analyze the overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), and clinical characteristics of the patients in the different treatment subgroups. Kaplan-Meier analysis suggested that patients in the Surgery+CIK group had a significantly improved OS compared with those in the other three groups (P < 0.001). Furthermore, patients who developed a fever after the CIK cell treatments manifested a likely better OS (P = 0.028). Subgroup analysis indicated that patients in the Surgery+CIK group likely had an improved PFS but a similar OS compared with the patients in the Surgery-alone group (P = 0.055 for PFS, and P = 0.746 for OS). Further subgroup analysis showed that the OS in both the TACE+CIK and CT+CIK groups was prolonged significantly compared with that in the TACE-alone group (P = 0.015 and P = 0.018, respectively). However, similar OS was observed between the TACE+CIK and CT+CIK groups (P = 0.686). Autologous transplantation of CIK cells as an adjuvant therapy was associated with better survival for patients with HCC, especially for those who had also undergone TACE. A fever reaction might be a potential event for assessing the curative effect of the CIK treatment.

The aim of this study was to describe changes in waist circumference (WC) and prevalence of abdominal obesity over a period of 10 years among Chinese adults in different socio-economic status (SES).Data derived from the China Nutrition and Health Surveillance during 2002 and 2010-2012. We calculated the mean WC and the prevalence of abdominal obesity by gender, place of residence, SES indicators (education, income, and marital status), and body mass index (BMI) categoriesand used pooled t-tests to assess the differences between the two time periods.26.0% of men and 25.3% of women had abdominal obesity in 2010-2012. The age-adjusted mean WC increased by 2.7 cm among men and 2.1 cm among women; the age-adjusted prevalence of abdominal obesity increased by 7.7% among men and 5.3% among women. The rising trends were observed in all subgroups except for a negative growth in high-income women. People living in rural areas with low education and income and with a BMI of 18.5 to 23.9 kg/m2 had a greater absolute and relative increase in WC. People living in rural areas with low income had a greater relative increase in abdominal obesity.The mean WC and prevalence of abdominal obesity among Chinese adults have increased during the past 10 years. Gender differences were noted using various SES indicators.

A highly selective and sensitive colorimetric signal-responding anion-sensor 1, based on 1,8-naphthalimide, was prepared and spectroscopically characterized. Strong visible colorimetric changes in 1 were observed only in the presence of fluoride (yellow-to-red color change), acetate (yellow-to-orange color change) and hydroxyl (yellow-to-brown color change) anions in DMSO. In the UV–Vis spectroscopy titration of F−, two different processes were observed as the concentration of F− increased. In the lower concentration of F−, hydrogen-bond interactions were formed in the first process. The second process of the spectral changes, in the higher concentration of F−, was attributed to the deprotonation of the hydroxyl moiety in the binding group, which was associated with the enhancement in the push-pull effect of the internal charge-transfer transition. The commonly competing Cl−, Br−, I−, Cl O 4 − , P F 6 − , HS O 4 − and H 2 P O 4 − ions induced none or relatively negligible optical perturbations in the UV–Vis spectral analyses. The present naked-eye detection system provides a simple and rapid method for the detection of fluoride, acetate and hydroxyl anions without interferences from other halide anions or common anions, including Cl O 4 − , P F 6 − , HS O 4 − and H 2 P O 4 − .

A 1,8-naphthalimide derivative ( 1 ) was intentionally designed and synthesized as a new turn-on fluorescent probe for the detection of zinc ion with high selectivity over other metal ions at pH 7.4 in aqueous media (CH 3 CN/HEPES, V/V = 6:4). The reaction mechanism is attributed to the replacement of the protons of the O–H groups by zinc ion at the binding site and production of fluorescence which is blocked in the photo-induced electron transfer (PET) process. Remarkable enhancement of up to 13-fold in fluorescence intensity with a 38 nm red-shift was achieved in the detection of zinc ion. Compound 1 was successfully applied to the fluorescence imaging of zinc ion, with a fluorescence emission color produced in the cell nucleus different from that produced in the cytoplasm, in A549, BEAS-2B, CHO, Hela, and HepG2 cells. Furthermore, cytokinesis-block micronucleus (CBMN) assay was carried out in CHO cells using 1 and zinc ion as the imaging agents, showing that the 1 -Zn 2+ agent is a nucleic acid selective stain, which could be applied in MN assays in different kinds of cell lines.

To describe the undernutrition status of children under 5-year in China, and study the trend between 2002 and 2013).The study was based on two national surveys. Undernutrition was determined against WHO's 2006 growth standards. The prevalence in 2013 and 2002 was weighted by China sixth National Population Census (2010). The relationship between undernutrition and gender/age groups/different areas use weighted logistic regression.The results indicated the overall prevalence of stunting, underweight, and wasting of Chinese children under 5-year was 8.1%, 2.4%, and 1.9% in 2013, respectively. The prevalence of stunting was higher for children aged 12-47 month, while underweight was higher for children aged 48-59 month. The prevalence of undernutrition was higher in rural areas than in urban areas, especially in poor rural areas. There was a decline of stunting, underweight, and wasting between 2002 and 2013 among the children, with greater reduction in rural areas than in urban areas.The prevalence of undernutrition of children under 5-year remains high in rural areas especially in poor rural areas in China. It is urgent to take action to control undernutrition in the vulnerable areas and subgroups.

Ethnopharmacological relevance TongLuoJiuNao (TLJN) is an herb extract that mainly contains ginsenoside Rg1 and geniposide, which are clinically used for treating ischemic damages in the brain. Aim of the study In the stroke, cerebral ischemia followed by oxygen reperfusion induced apoptosis in hippocampal neurons, while extension of axons and dendrites in neurons may compensate for and repair damages of neuronal network in the hypoxia brain. In this study, we investigated whether TLJN can protect neurons against damages by ischemia in brain vasculature. Materials and methods We measured cell viability and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) release from primary culture of rat hippocampal neurons before and after the neurons were deprived of oxygen and glucose (OGD). In addition, the effects were evaluated with cell viability and neurite outgrowth before or after OGD. Results We found that TLJN could play a neuroprotective role to cultured primary rat hippocampal neurons under both normal and oxygen/glucose-deprivation (OGD) conditions. TLJN could protect both cultured primary rat hippocampal neurons and brain microvascular endothelial cells (BMECs) from cell death under both normal and oxygen/glucose-deprivation (OGD) conditions. Moreover, under the same conditions, BMECs-conditioned media pretreated by TNJN could also promote neuron viability and neurite outgrowth, indicating that TLJN stimulated BMECs to secret some neuroprotective/neurotrophic factors. Conclusion These findings suggest that TLJN has a marked neuroprotective and neurotrophic roles by either direct or indirect operation, and provide insight into the mechanism of clinical efficacy of this drug against stroke.

Increasing evidence suggests that diabetes mellitus (DM) may be associated with an increased risk of bladder cancer. We performed an updated meta-analysis to examine the association between DM and risk of bladder cancer.We systematically searched the EMBASE and Medline (PubMed) databases (from inception through February 1, 2013) and reviewed the reference lists of relevant publications to search for additional studies. Summary relative risks (RRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated with random-effects models.In total, 10 case-control and 14 cohort studies met the inclusion criteria. Analysis of all studies showed that DM was associated with an increased risk of bladder cancer (RR 1.30, 95% CI 1.18-1.43). There was heterogeneity among studies (Pheterogeneity0.001, I(2)=81.5%). Cohort studies showed a lower risk (RR 1.23, 95% CI 1.09-1.37) than case-control studies (odds ratio 1.46, 95% CI 1.20-1.78). The positive association was significant only in women (RR 1.23, 95% CI 1.02-1.49), but not in men (RR 1.07, 95% CI 0.97-1.18). The combined RRs remained unchanged before and after the studies on type 1 diabetes were excluded from analysis. The association between DM and bladder cancer risk did not differ significantly by methods of DM ascertainment. The combined RRs were 1.17 (95% CI 1.03-1.34), 1.34 (95% CI 1.19-1.51), and 1.57 (95% CI 0.96-2.55), respectively, when restricting the analysis to the studies accounting for body mass index, cigarette smoking, or glucose-lowering drug use.This meta-analysis indicates a positive association between DM and risk of bladder cancer. Further studies are warranted to determine whether DM prevention and control can reduce risk of bladder cancer.

An Hg(2+) -selective fluorescent sensor (1) bearing pyrene as a fluorophore was synthesized. A sandwich-stacking binding mode was formed during the binding process, which increased the excimer fluorescence 22-fold at 490 nm. To evaluate the effects of Wenchuan Earthquake on the nutritional status, growth, and the prevalence nutritional anemia, vitamin A deficiency (VAD) and vitamin D deficiency among children under 60 months old living in the disaster areas.A nutritional survey was conducted in April 2009. The survey recruited 466 under 60 months old children, including 162 children aged 0 months old and 304 children aged 24 - 59 months old. The children's growth status, prevalence of anemia, and the iron deficiency prevalence, vitamin A, D, B(12), folic acid status were measured. The study findings were compared to the results from 2002 Chinese Nutritional and Health Survey.The exclusive breast milk feeding rate among infants under 6-months was 58.8% (30/51). Among the 0 - 23 months old children, only 10.7% (16/150) got breast feeding within one hour after delivery. Ninety-two per cent (149/162) 0 - 23 months old children never received any nutrient supplements. The average cereals and roots intakes of the 24 - 59 months old children living in the disaster area were (267.2 ± 154.3) g/d, higher than the result of rural children average (178.75 g/d) of 2002 National Nutrition and Health Survey (u = 9.995, P0.01). The average intakes of vegetables, aquatic products, meat and poultries were (63.6 ± 56.7), (2.6 ± 7.9), (19.4 ± 24.0) g/d, respectively, significantly lower than 2002 results 135.05, 8.82 and 32.23 g/d (u = 21.971, 13.728 and 9.321, P0.01). Fruits, dairy products and legumes intakes were (102.2 ± 110.8), (65.2 ± 123.8) and (20.5 ± 29.0) g/d, respectively, higher than 2002 results (32.81, 2.87 and 6.50 g/d; u = 10.919, 8.778 and 8.417, P0.01). The prevalence of vitamin A deficiency and marginal deficiency was 15.4% (29/188) and 30.3% (57/188), respectively. The sum of vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency was 92.0% (183/199). The prevalence of anemia of the 0-months old children and 24 - 59 months old children was 47.5% (77/162) and 21.5% (60/279), respectively. The prevalence of iron and zinc deficiencies was 45.7% (86/188) and 65.5% (127/197). The prevalence of stunt was 13.6% (38/279) among the 24 - 59 months old children.The results indicated that the dietary structure of the children living in the disaster area was not ideal. Although, the intakes of energy and protein supporting foods could meet the requirements, but the dietary lacks of meats, poultries, dairy products, legume products, aquatic products and vegetables. The vitamin A, vitamin D deficiency, iron and zinc deficiencies are of a high prevalence in the disaster area.

To investigate and analyze the nutritional status of infants, preschool and primary school students, pregnant and lactating women in Wenchuan earthquake disaster area after 3 months.In August 2008, the nutritional and health status information of special population were collected and evaluated using the questionnaires, anthropometric and hemoglobin concentration measurements from four settlements of villages and towns in Mao and Mianzhu Country of Sichuan and Kang Country and Wudu District in Gansu provinces. A total of 236 infants aged below 36 months, 48 preschool children, 368 primary students, 32 pregnant women and 72 lactating women were investigated. Principal investigator indexes included the low body weight, growth retardation, anemia prevalence, two-week prevalence of diarrhea and respiratory disease, food intake and nutrition-related diseases, the percentage of patients morbidity of 36 months infants, preschool and primary school students; the prevalence of anemia, the prevalence of nutrition-related diseases of pregnant and lactating women.The stunting prevalence was 14.6% (34/236) and the anemia prevalence was up to 40.1% (61/236) among infants younger than 36 months. Besides, the percentages of infants and young children suffered from the respiratory-infected disease and diarrhea within recent two weeks were 40.4% (95/236) and 30.2% (71/236) respectively. The percentage of low body weight of preschool children was 14.6% (7/48) and the growth retardation and anemia prevalence was 14.6% (7/48) and 39.6% (19/48), respectively. Among primary students, 6.3% (23/368) showed growth retardation and 12.2% (45/368) were anemia. The prevalence of anemia status of pregnant women and lactating mothers were 53.9% (17/32) and 24.4% (18/72) respectively. The main food composition of 45.8% (33/72) lactating women were grain and vegetables, 29 (40.3%), 32 (44.4%), 28 (38.9%) and 53 (73.6%) lactating women did not have animal originated (including meat, aquatic, livestock and poultry products) food, eggs, beans and their products, milk and dairy products, respectively.Special population lived in disaster area have suffered different degree of malnutrition. The main dietary pattern was vegetable food. The consumption of meat, eggs, milk and milk products was relatively insufficient.

To evaluate the effects of Wenchuan Earthquake on the nutritional status and the prevalence of nutritional anemia, vitamin A deficiency (VAD) and vitamin D deficiency among reproductive women (15 - 44 years old) in the disaster areas one year after the Earthquake.A nutritional survey was conducted in 3 counties in April 2009, one year after the Earthquake. Two towns from each county were selected as study sites, and this survey recruited 58 pregnant, 66 lactating and 242 non-pregnant-non-lactating women. A comparison was made to the results of 2002 Chinese Nutrition and Health Survey.The cereals and roots intakes of the pregnant, lactating and non-pregnant-non-lactating women living in the disaster area were (426.8 ± 271.8), (568.0 ± 306.1), and (483.0 ± 277.7) g/d respectively, which were almost the same results (486.8, 509.3 and 495.1 g/d, respectively) from 2002 National Nutrition and Health Survey. The fat and oil intakes were (41.9 ± 51.6), (55.5 ± 69.2), and (66.9 ± 125.7) g/d, respectively, which were also the same ad the results (45.2, 43.9 and 41.4 g/d, respectively) from 2002 National Nutrition and Health Survey. The intakes of meats and poultries were only (58.1 ± 67.7), (76.3 ± 218.7), and (23.9 ± 29.6) g/d respectively, which were much lower than the recommended food intakes from the Branch of Maternal and Child Nutrition of Chinese Nutrition Society. The vitamin A deficiency and marginal deficiency prevalence were 6.9% (24/347) and 18.2% (63/347), respectively. The deficiency and insufficiency of vitamin D was sum to 93.9% (323/344). The prevalence of anemia was 32.6% (112/344). 51.0% (171/335) reproductive women were iron deficient, and 61.6% (210/347) women were suffering zinc deficiency.The study findings indicated that the dietary structure was seriously effected by the Earthquake. The sources from animal and legume products were relatively low. The micronutrients nutritional status was poor. The vitamin A, vitamin D, and iron, zinc deficiencies were highly prevalent in the disaster area.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the effects of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) therapy for clearing heat and resolving phlegm on systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) in acute deterioration stage of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and the serum procalcitonin (PCT) level. METHODS One hundred patients suffering from SIRS in acute deterioration stage of COPD were included and randomly divided into treatment group (50 cases) and control group (50 cases). Patients in the treatment group were treated with routine Western medicine and Chinese herbal medicine for clearing away heat and eliminating phlegm, while patients in the control group were treated with routine Western medicine only. Patients in the two groups were treated for one week. The serum PCT levels in the two groups were measured at days 1, 3, and 7, and clinical symptom scores were recorded at days 1 and 7 in hospital to determine the effects. To analyze the incidence of low birth weight and identify the influencing factors in China in 2006.The national survey was performed by stratified random cluster sampling method in 43 cities and counties in 14 provinces. The subjects were all live neonates during May to October in 2006. Their body weight was measured according to the standardization conducted by the national research team, while the information of all infants was investigated by questionnaires. Non-conditional logistic regression was used to analyze the influencing factors.Among 18 554 infants investigated, the incidence of low birth weight was 4.6% in 2006 in China, being 3.2%, 4.4%, and 6.3% in eastern middle and western areas respectively. The incidence of low birth weight were 3.9% in urban and 4.8% in rural. The results of logistic regression analysis suggested that maternal education (OR = 1.48; 95% CI: 1.181 approximately 1.861), body mass index (BMI) before pregnancy (OR = 1.52; 95% CI: 1.229 - 1.876), body weight gain in gestation period (OR = 1.57; 95% CI: 1.246 - 1.965), gestational weeks (OR = 20.16; 95% CI: 15.456 - 26.297), multiple birth (OR = 12.11; 95% CI: 9.229 - 15.893), gestation syndrome, and nutrition instruction (OR = 0.66; 95% CI: 0.550 - 0.798) were associated with low birth weight significantly.The main factors resulting in low birth weight in neonates are maternal education, BMI before pregnancy, body weight gain in gestation period, pregnancy age, multiple birth, gestation syndrome, and nutrition instruction.

To investigate and analyze present nutrition and feeding situation of 0 - 5 years old infants and children in Chinese cities and villages and to understand main problems existed during Chinese infants and children's develop-growing period in order to provide a basis for further drafting measures of nutrition amelioration.To utilize an "Investigation to Nutrition Situation of 0 - 5 Years Old InfantsChildren" which is opened in Chinese 8 provinces, cities and villages in 2004 by Social Women Dept. of Ministry of Public Health, P. R. China to proceed measurement of height and body weight for 17081 infants and children of 0 - 5 years of age in 8 provinces, cities and villages, also with Questionnaire form to proceed an investigation to parents of above said infants and children about their feeding situation.The develop-growing difference between cities and villages' infants and children appears to begin in April, a high occurrence period for 1 - 2 years old infants and children in villages with long period chronicle malnutrition as main cause that Chinese western area villages' nutrition rate is 20% above to be higher than Chinese middle and eastern areas. Infants and children's mother milk feeding rate is higher than whole nation's children nutrition monitoring result in 2000 with villages obviously higher than cities. In adding infants' supplementary foods there obviously existed unscientific and unreasonable problem of adding time, adding quality and quantity of supplementary foods. To analyze cause it is besides economic factors there existed obvious relation with shortage of knowledge in nutrition and health care by infants and children's parents.

To describe the current status and trend of food consumption among Chinese residents.23,470 households including 68,962 subjects were randomly sampled from 132 counties in 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities. A 24-hour dietary recall method for 3 consecutive days was used to collect information on food intake, but the condiment intake was collected by weighting method.The average food consumption per reference man per day of Chinese people included 402 g (urban/rural: 366 g/ 416 g) cereals; 276 g (urban/rural: 252 g/ 286 g) vegetables; 45 g (urban/rural:69 g/36 g) fruits; 79 g (urban/rural: 105 g/69 g) meats; 30 g (urban/rural:45 g/24 g) fishery products; 24 g (urban/rural: 33 g/20 g) eggs; 27 g(urban/rural: 66 g/ 11 g) dairy; 16 g legume; 42 g (urban/rural:44 g/41 g) edible oil; 12 g (urban/rural: 11 g/12 g) salt; 9 g (urban/rural: 11 g/8 g) soy sauce.For Chinese residents, the quality of diet had been improved and consumptions of animal products, milk, and edible oil had been increased, but the consumptions of dairy and legume products intake was still low which called for improvement. The unbalance was characterized as the downward trend in cereal, vegetable and fruit consumption but significant increased in animal products and oil intake among urban people. Dietary pattern of some subjects adopted a "high energy density" diet. Double burdens from under-nutrition and over-nutrition should both be considered as problems which asked for attention by the government and researchers.

To compare the analgesic effect and side effects of morphine for intravenous patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) with or without low-dose naloxone after abdominal surgery.Fifty-nine ASA I - II patients undergoing elective abdominal surgery were randomly divided into two groups: group morphine received postoperative PCA with 0.4 mg/ml morphine (a 1 mg bolus with a 5 min lockout), group naloxone received morphine 0.4 mg/ml with 6 microg/kg naloxone. Blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, and pulse oxygen saturation were monitored. Visual analogue scale (VAS), nausea/vomiting, pruritus, sedation and consumption of morphine were recorded for 24 hours.VAS had no difference between group morphine and group naloxone, but group naloxone had significantly lower VAS for pain at rest or movement (beyond 4-8 h), and the incidence of nausea/vomiting significantly decreased in group naloxone (P0.05). No differences existed in pruritus, sedation, respiratory rate, and hemodynamic parameters between these two groups. The 24 hours postoperative morphine consumption was (36.6 +/- 13.5) mg in group naloxone and (43.7 +/- 14.6) mg in group morphine (P0.05).For morphine PCA, morphine with 6 microg/kg naloxone is effective in preventing some PCA morphinerelated side effects. Naloxone not only reduces postoperative morphine requirements but also improves the analgesic effect.
