The China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) will accommodate 20 neutron beamlines at its first target station. These beamlines serve different purposes, and beamline 11 is designed to analyze the degraded models and damage mechanisms, such as Single Event Effects in electronic components and devices for aerospace electronic systems. This paper gives a preliminary discussion on the scheme of a high energy neutron irradiation experiment at the beamline 11 shutter based on the Monte Carlo simulation method. The neutron source term is generated by calculating the neutrons scattering into beamline 11 with a model that includes the target-moderator-reflector area. Then, the neutron spectrum at the sample position is obtained. The intensity of neutrons with energy of hundreds of MeV is approximately 1E8 neutron/cm 2 /s, which is useful for experiments. The displacement production rate and gas productions are calculated for common materials such as tungsten , tantalum and SS316. The results indicate that the experiment can provide irradiation dose rate ranges from 1E-5 to 1E-4 dpa per operating year. The residual radioactivity is also calculated for regular maintenance work. These results give the basic reference for the experimental design.

Evaluation of enterprise's science and technology programs can provide the data for determining effective collocation of enterprise's resource, improve management of its innovation programs. Therefore, with the base of the research results and the theory of dynamic capabilities, this paper constructed the evaluation system that can reflect the dynamic adaptability of the firm scientific and technological innovation capabilities (STICs). By adopting the method of factor analysis and selecting 284 enterprises in Sichuan province as the research objects, this study finds that three dimensions, which are strategic indicators, development indicators and performance indicators, can be applied to construct the evaluation system. Besides, through the comprehensive ranking of factors, it finds some problems of those enterprises in the development of STICs. So this study provides a reference and guidance for enterprises to evaluate their STICs, and it could help the government and the firms in Sichuan to understand and enhance the firms' STICs.

In this paper we firstly calculate the one-dimension shielding models to give the basic data for the Chinese Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) target station. Then the three-dimensional shielding calculations have been performed for the detailed design of the CSNS target station. The gaps and void spaces in the CSNS target station are considered for precise estimation. We find that 4.8-meter-radius steel adding 1.2-meter-thick magnetite concrete can satisfy the shielding requirement in the horizontal direction. The dose rate on the top of the ceiling is a little higher than 2.5μSv/h due to streaming effect, which originates from the moderator transfer lines. A thin sandwich structure will be adopted for decreasing residual radioactivity dose rate on the altitude directions after considering the engineering cost and maintenance. All these calculations lie on the Monte Carlo simulation code MCNPX2.5.0.

Boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) is expected to be an effective method of improving the treatment results on malignant brain glioma and malignant melanoma, for which no successful treatment has been developed so far. The beam shaping assembly (BSA) of accelerator-based boron neutron capture therapy (A-BNCT) consists of a moderator, a reflector, gamma and thermal neutron shielding and a collimator. The BSA moderates the fast neutron produced in target to epithermal energy range. Design of BSA is one of the key jobs in BNCT project. An optimized study was conducted to design a beam shaping assembly for BNCT facility based on 3.5 MeV 10 mA radio-frequency quadrupole proton accelerator at Dongguan Neutron Science Center. In this simulation work, the neutron produced from the 7Li (p, n) 7Be reaction by 3.5 MeV proton is adopted as a neutron source term. In order to search for an optimized beam shaping assembly for accelerator-based BNCT, Monte Carlo simulation is carried out based on the parameters of moderator material and structure, the Gamma shielding, and the thermal neutron filter in the beam shaping assembly. The beam shaping assembly in this work consists of various moderator materials, teflon as reflector, Bi as gamma shielding, 6Li as thermal neutron filter, and lithium polyethylene as collimator. After comparing the simulation results of Fluental and LiF moderator materials, the beam shaping assembly configuration based on sandwich Fluental-LiF configuration is proposed. The sandwich Fluental-LiF configuration is made up of Fluental and LiF layer by layer, like a sandwich structure, and each layer is 2 cm thick. According to the beam quality requirement of the IAEA-tecdoc-1223 report, the optimized epithermal neutron flux in air at the exit of BSA of the sandwich Fluental-LiF configuration is 9.14×108 n/(cm2·s), which is greater than those of the Fluental configuration (7.81×108 n/(cm2·s)) and LiF configuration (8.79×108 n/(cm2·s)), when the ratio of fast neutron component to gamma ray component to thermal neutron is less than the limiting value of IAEA recommendation. Subsequently, the depth distribution of the equivalent doses in the Snyder head phantom is calculated to evaluate the treatment characteristic. The simulation results show that the therapy rate of the beam shaping assembly based on the sandwich Fluental-LiF configuration is basically equal to that of the Fluental configuration and better than that of the LiF configuration, and the therapy time is less than that of the Fluental configuration. This means that the beam shaping assembly based on the sandwich Fluental-LiF configuration is one of the suitable options for our accelerator-based BNCT.

This paper shows the calculations of radioactivity and afterheat in the components of the China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) target station, with the Monte Carlo codes LAHET, MCNP4C and the multigroup code CINDER’90. These calculations provide essential data for the detailed design and maintenance of the CSNS target station.

Spatial distribution of hot electrons with energies above 50 keV are investigated by an ethanol micro-droplet spray irradiated by linearly and elliptically polarized 150 fs laser pulses at an intensity of 1016W/cm2. Two symmetric hot electron jets with respect to the laser propagation direction are observed in the polarization plane for a linearly polarized laser field and in the plane of the long electric vector for an elliptically polarized laser field, respectively. Particle-in-cell simulations suggest that the resonance absorption on the spherical surface of the droplets is mainly responsible for the generation of the double-jet emission of hot electrons.

The Monte Carlo intra-nuclear cascade program CBIM has been developed for describing spallation reactions involving protons, neutrons and pions on complex nuclei. In order to describe cascade process, several simplifications and assumptions are made in the following:firstly, neither reaction, nor reflection, nor refraction, nor ionization will be taken into account before the incident particle enters into the target nucleus; secondly, target nucleus is regarded as being spherical and the atom number should be greater than 2; thirdly, the knocked nucleon is determined by cross section sampling; finally, in the center-of-mass frame, the scattering angle is sampled based on differential cross section distribution. The basis physics model is based on the above assumptions and Bertini intra-nuclear cascade model; meanwhile, nucleon-nucleon angle differential distributions of INCL in the center-of-mass frame are introduced to overcome the shortage of Bertini model. The interactions between nucleon and nucleon or between nucleon and pion, such as elastic scattering, pion production and charge exchange, are included in the code. In the particles collision, the nucleon density changes with the target nucleus radius; and the interaction cross sections refer to 22 kinds of experimental cross sections in Bertini model. The intra-nuclear cascades induced by 45-3500 MeV neutron, proton or pion below 2500 MeV can be simulated by this code. Finally, comparisons between experimental reaction cross section over the energy range 60-378 MeV, and some simulation results by MCNPX, GEANT4 and PHITS over the energy range 65-3000 MeV show that they are in reasonable agreement with the CBIM results over the broad energy range considered.

The effects of laser polarization on super-hot electron (> 100 keV) generation have been studied in the interaction of femtosecond laser light (800 nm, 150 fs, 6 x 10(15) W(.)cm(-2)) with a pre-formed plasma from a slab Cu target. For p-polarized laser pulses, high-energy gamma -rays of the energy similar to 400keV were detected. The electron temperatures deduced from the gamma -ray spectra were 66 and 52 ke V, respectively, in normal and reflective directions of the solid target, and hot electrons were emitted out of the plasma mainly in the normal direction. In contrast, there were nearly no gamma -rays > 100keV found for s-polarized laser pulses. The hot electron temperature was 26 keV and the emission of hot electrons was parallel to the laser field. The superposition of resonant field with electrostatic field excited by escaping electrons may contribute to the high-energy gamma -ray or super-hot electron (> 100keV) generation.

We have studied the ion emission in the interaction between femtosecond laser pulses and solid targets by experiments and particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations. We found experimentally that almost all of the fast ions are confined within a cone symmetrically around the normal direction of targets. The PIC simulation results demonstrate that the fast ion beam can be accelerated by the laser-induced electrostatic field in front of solid targets.

The temperature of hot electrons produced in ultra-short ultra-intense laser-plasma interactions could be measured by photonuclear diagnostic method. In this paper, the process of bremsstrahlung gamma photons generated by hot electrons interacting separately with 63Cu, 107Ag, and 12C, were simulated using the Monte Carlo N-particle transport code (MCNP). According to the different cross-sections, the activities of different samples were calculated. The activity ratios for 11C/62Cu and11C/106Ag were achieved at different electron temperatures. This method can realize the temperature diagnostic of hot electrons in laser-plasma interactions.

Hot electrons produced in the ultra-intense laser-plasma interactions play very important roles in the scheme of “fast ignition”. Bremsstrahlung measurements can be an effective method to diagnose the hot electrons accelerated in the forward direction. The transport of the hot electrons and the characteristics of the bremsstrahlung photons were calculated using the Monte Carlo electron-photon transport code MCNP. The feasibility of the bremsstrahlung diagnostic method in laser plasma interactions is also discussed.

The angular distribution and the energy spectrum of hot electrons with energy over 50keV emitted from ethanol droplets irradiated by linearly polarized 150 fs laser pulses at the intensity of 10 16W/cm2 have been measured. The angular distribution of hot electrons is found to be dependent on the laser polarization. Two hot electron jets like double leaves symmetrically with respect to the laser propagation direction are observed within the polarization plane. The maximum energy of the hot electrons is found to be more than 750 keV. A model based on the resonance absorption can be used to interpret the above distribution. The calculation agrees well with the experimental results.
