Few studies have examined the trends of palliative care utilization. We analyzed the annual rate, associated factors, and timing of the inpatient palliative care utilization by hospitalized patients with COPD.Patients and Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional observational study between 1 January 2007 and 31 December 2018. Population-based claims data were extracted from Taiwan’s National Health Insurance Research Database to identify patients aged ≧40 years with COPD five years before the first instance of inpatient palliative care utilization.Results: There were 24,502 patients with COPD receiving inpatient palliative care. Our results indicated that older age, concomitant chronic conditions—especially cancer—and severity of comorbidities were associated with a higher rate of palliative care utilization by hospitalized patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. In our study, the proportion of hospitalized patients with COPD receiving inpatient palliative care and having a Charlson comorbidity index score of 1– 2 was lower than that of patients with cancer and a Charlson comorbidity index score ≧3 during the 12-year study-observation period. In addition, approximately 50% of hospitalized patients with COPD received palliative care within 18 months after their initial admission for COPD during the study period. However, individuals with a CCI score of 1– 2 exhibited a slower entry into palliative care, with nearly 50% initiating it within the first two years.Conclusion: Inpatient palliative care utilization by hospitalized patients with advanced COPD remains low due to various causes. Our findings highlight that palliative care may be considered by professional care providers as routine care and as a way to manage problematic symptoms during hospitalization.Keywords: cancer comorbidity, inpatient care, joinpoint regression, Taiwan’s health insurance database

EPC can be underappreciated on percutaneous biopsy, which may require additional procedures if invasion is not recognized preoperatively. We aimed to investigate the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) phenotypes correlated with preoperative pathological risk stratification for clinical guidance.Materials and Methods: The preoperative MRI scans of 30 patients diagnosed with 36 EPCs in multiple centers between August 2015 and February 2020 were reviewed by two breast radiologists. According to the WHO classification published in 2019, EPCs were classified into two pathological subtypes: encapsulated papillary carcinoma and encapsulated papillary carcinoma with invasion. Clinicopathological analysis of the two subtypes and MR feature analysis were performed.Results: Evaluation of the MRI phenotypes and pathological subtype information revealed that not circumscribed (P=0.04) was more common in EPCs with invasion than in EPCs. There was a significant difference in the age of patients (P=0.05), and the risk increased with age. The maximum diameter of the tumor increased with tumor risk, but there was no significant difference (P=0.36). Nearly half of the EPC with invasion patients showed hyperintensity on T1WI (P=0.19). A total of 63.6% of the EPC with invasion group showed non-mass enhancement surrounding (P=0.85). In addition, 29 patients (96.7%) had no axillary lymph node metastasis, and only one patient with EPC with invasion had axillary lymph node metastasis. Further pathological information analysis of EPCs showed that higher Ki-67 levels were more common in patients with EPCs with invasion (P=0.04). A total of 29 patients (96.7%) had the luminal phenotype, and one patient with EPC with invasion had the Her-2-positive phenotype.Conclusion: The margin, age and Ki-67 level were the key features for EPC risk stratification. In addition, these MRI signs, including a larger tumor, non-mass enhancement surrounding and axillary lymph node metastasis, may be suggestive of a high-risk stratification. The ladybird beetle Micraspis discolor plays an important role as a predator of various arthropods within Asia's rice ecosystems. While pollen could serve as an alternative diet for this beetle, facilitating mass-rearing, its pollinivory might inadvertently result in attacks on crop pollen. This study aims to explore the role of gut bacteria on pollinivory of M. discolor . We found that antibiotic treatment significantly reduced the performance of M. discolor when fed Brassica campestris pollen. However, the treatment did not significantly affect their performance when fed an alternative diet of Ephestia kuehniella eggs. Further, we found that antibiotics can eliminate a strain of Serratia marcescens , SmMd, which is a specific gut bacterium in M. discolor . Moreover, the performance of M. discolor showed some degree of recovery when SmMd was reintroduced into its diet. Therefore, we propose that gut bacteria, particularly SmMd, play a significant role in pollen use by this ladybird beetle. Risk assessment and adaptation have become key focuses in the examination of urban flooding risk. In recent decades, global climate change has resulted in a high incidence of extreme weather events, notably flooding. This study introduces a spatial multi-indicator model developed for assessing flood risk at the urban agglomeration scale. A crucial addition to the model is the incorporation of an adaptive capacity within the IPCC risk framework. The model systematically considers various flood risk indicators related to the economic, social, and geographic environments of the central and southern Liaoning urban agglomeration (CSLN). It generates a spatial distribution map of integrated flood risk for multiple scenario combinations. Furthermore, the intricate relationship between different risk indicators and flood risk was analyzed using correlation analysis and the Light Gradient Boosting Machine model (Light GBM). The findings reveal notable variations in flood risk under different scenarios. The inclusion of vulnerability indicators increased flood risk by 33 %, while the subsequent inclusion of adaptive indicators decreased flood risk by 45 %. Dense populations and assets contribute to high flood risk, while adaptive capacity significantly mitigates urban flood risk. Agaricus is a species-rich genus with more than 600 species around the world. In this work, three new species, Agaricus cacainus, A. baiyunensis , and A. praeclarefibrillosus are described from the specimens collected at Baiyun Mountain, Guangzhou, China, a subtropical area with a monsoon maritime climate, based on phylogenetic analyses and morphological examinations of internal transcribed spacer (ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 = ITS), D1/D2 domains of the large subunit of ribosomal DNA (28S), and a part of translation elongation factor 1-alpha ( TEF1 ). Agaricus cacainus in A . sect. Amoeni is characterized by a parabolic to applanate, slightly depressed pileus covered with chocolate brown, appressed, triangular squamules against white background, a white, furfuraceous stipe, an unchanging context when cut, a fragile and evanescent annulus, usually 4- or 2-spored basidia, and mostly pyriform cheilocystidia. Agaricus baiyunensis in A . sect. Minores has a pileus with a slightly truncate top covered with light brown, downy-wooly fibrillose scales and a light yellowish stipe with membranous annulus. Agaricus praeclarefibrillosus in A . sect. Brunneopicti is characterized by a pileus surface with brownish, triangular, recurved scales and longitudinally splitting lines toward margin, a cottony stipe with white, tiny, recurved fibrils, a single annulus, and variously shaped cheilocystidia, with sparsely ornamented basidiospores. The detailed comparison of their morphological characteristics with closely related species is provided.

Horizontal transmission of bacteria to varied hosts can maintain and even expand microbial niches. We previously found that the aphid gut bacterium Serratia symbiotica strain SsMj can be transmitted to ladybird beetles via predation, but whether the predator is a new host, a reservoir or a dead end of this bacterium is unknown. This study aims to provide a clear picture of SsMj circulation from aphids to plants and predators. We first found that SsMj in aphids and ladybirds was abundantly distributed not only in digestive tracts but also in droppings. We found no evidence for vertical transmission of SsMj to aphid offspring. Instead, we showed that it could be transmitted to conspecific aphids by sharing the same plant or contacting honeydews. The key finding of this study is that SsMj was transmitted from aphids to ladybirds through predation, while ladybirds could also transfer SsMj back to aphids, possibly through feces. Together, this evidence suggests that SsMj is able to survive in the digestive tracts and droppings of insects and to expand its host range with plants and predators as reservoirs., (© The Author(s) 2023. Patients diagnosed with cancer face an increased risk of cardiovascular events in the short term, while those experiencing acute myocardial infarction (AMI) have a higher incidence of cancer. Given limitations in clinical resources, identifying shared biomarkers offers a cost-effective approach to risk assessment by minimizing the need for multiple tests and screenings. Hence, it is crucial to identify common biomarkers for both cancer survival and AMI prediction. Our study suggests that monocyte-derived biomarkers, specifically WEE1, PYHIN1, SEC61A2, and HAL, hold potential as predictors for cancer prognosis and AMI. We employed a novel formula to analyze mRNA levels in clinical samples from patients with AMI and cancer, resulting in the development of a new risk score based on expression profiles. By categorizing patients into high-risk and low-risk groups based on the median risk score, we observed significantly poorer overall survival among high-risk patients in cancer cohorts using Kaplan-Meier analysis. Furthermore, calibration curves, decision curve analysis (DCA), and clinical impact curve analyses provided additional evidence supporting the robust diagnostic capacity of the risk score for AMI. Noteworthy is the shared activation of the Notch Signaling pathway, which may shed light on common high-risk factors underlying both AMI and cancer. Additionally, we validated the differential expression of these genes in cell lines and clinical samples, respectively, reinforcing their potential as meaningful biomarkers. Background: Trigger finger is a common condition in the hand, and ultrasound-guided acupotomy for trigger finger has been widely used in recent years., Purpose: This study aims to investigate the efficacy and safety of ultrasound-guided acupotomy for trigger finger., Methods: We searched for relevant studies in the Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Embase, PubMed, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database (CBM), Wanfang Data, and other resources from their inception to January 2023. Randomized controlled trials of ultrasound-guided acupotomy for trigger finger were included. The meta-analysis was carried out using Review Manager 5.4 and Stata 15.1., Results: Overall, 15 studies with 988 patients were included. The experimental group was treated with ultrasound-guided acupotomy, and the Control group received traditional acupotomy, traditional operation or injection of medication. Meta-analysis showed that the overall clinical effectiveness (OR = 4.83; 95% CI 2.49-9.37; I 2  = 73.1%; P < 0.001) in the experimental group was significantly better than that of the control group. And the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) score (WMD =  - 1; 95% CI - 1.24, - 0.76; I 2  = 99%; P < 0.001), the QuinneII classification (WMD = - 0.84; 95% CI - 1.28, - 0.39; I 2  = 99.1%, P < 0.001), the incidence of complications (RR = 0.26; 95% CI 0.11, 0.63; I 2  = 0%, P = 0.003), and the recurrence rate (RR = 0.14; 95% CI 0.03, 0.74; I 2  = 0%; P = 0.021) were significantly lower in the experimental group., Conclusion: Our systematic review and meta-analysis can prove the effectiveness and safety of ultrasound-guided acupotomy in the treatment of trigger finger, but this still needs to be verified by a clinical standard large sample test., (© 2023. Freshly-used crude drugs have unique functions and advantages in TCM practice of treating diseases. Jinlong Capsule is a patent traditional Chinese medicine product effective for treatment of hepatocarcinoma, and fresh Jinqian Baihua She (JBS, the body of juvenile Bungarus multicinctus) is one of its important ingredients. The emergence of counterfeit fresh JBS, often identified as dried JBS with almost identical appearance, poses a difficult problem in the quality control of the product. Herein we report a molecular quantification-based method for differentiation of fresh and dried JBS by determining the copy number of a specific DNA marker in the samples. Using species-specific primers and TaqMan probes, we established a real-time quantitative PCR system for amplification of a fragment in the 658-bp cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) region from JBS specimens. The amplicon copy number in the muscle tissues ranged from 1.14 × 10 7 to 4.83 × 10 7 copies/mg in fresh JBS samples, as compared with 1.13 × 10 5 -8.91 × 10 6 copies/mg in dried JBS samples. Based upon Fisher discriminant analysis, we used 1.27 × 10 7 copies/mg as the cut-off value for differentiating fresh and dried JBS, which was validated in the single-blinded validation test of fresh and dried JBS samples. The current study aimed to investigate the relationship between body parameters and the current-time product (mAs) in chest digital radiography using a non-contact infrared thickness-measurement sensor. An anthropomorphic chest phantom was first used to understand variations in mAs over multiple positionings during chest radiography when using the automatic exposure control (AEC) technique. In a human study, 929 consecutive male subjects who underwent regular chest examinations were enrolled, and their height (H), weight (W), and body mass index (BMI) were recorded. In addition, their chest thickness (T) was measured at exhalation using a non-contact infrared sensor, and chest radiography was then performed using the AEC technique. Finally, the relationship between four body parameters (T, BMI, T*BMI, and W/H) and mAs was investigated by fitting the body parameters to mAs using three curve models. The phantom study showed that the maximum mAs was 1.76 times higher than the lowest mAs during multiple positionings in chest radiography. In the human study, all chest radiographs passed the routine quality control procedure and had an exposure index between 100 and 212. In curve fitting, the comparisons showed that W/H had a closer relationship with mAs than the other body parameters, while the first-order power model with W/H fitted to mAs performed the best and had an R-square of 0.9971. We concluded that the relationship between W/H and mAs in the first-order power model may be helpful in predicting the optimal mAs and reducing the radiation dose for chest radiography when using the AEC technique.

Trachinotus ovatus is a major economically important cultured marine fish in the South China Sea. However, extreme weather and increased culture density result in uncontrollable problems, such as increases in water temperature and a decline in dissolved oxygen (DO), hindering the high-quality development of aquaculture. In this study, liver transcriptional profiles of T. ovatus were investigated under acute high-temperature stress (31 °C and 34 °C) and normal water temperature (27 °C) using RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq) technology. Differential expression analysis and STEM analysis showed that 1347 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and four significant profiles (profiles 0, 3, 4, and 7) were screened, respectively. Of these DEGs, some genes involved in heat shock protein (HSPs), hypoxic adaptation, and glycolysis were up-regulated, while some genes involved in the ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) and fatty acid metabolism were down-regulated. Our results suggest that protein dynamic balance and function, hypoxia adaptation, and energy metabolism transformation are crucial in response to acute high-temperature stress. Our findings contribute to understanding the molecular response mechanism of T. ovatus under acute heat stress, which may provide some reference for studying the molecular mechanisms of other fish in response to heat stress.

Savalani hairtail Lepturacanthus savala is a widely distributed fish along the Indo-Western Pacific coast, and contributes substantially to trichiurid fishery resources worldwide. In this study, the first chromosome-level genome assembly of L. savala was obtained by PacBio SMRT-Seq, Illumina HiSeq, and Hi-C technologies. The final assembled L. savala genome was 790.02 Mb with contig N50 and scaffold N50 values of 19.01 Mb and 32.77 Mb, respectively. The assembled sequences were anchored to 24 chromosomes by using Hi-C data. Combined with RNA sequencing data, 23,625 protein-coding genes were predicted, of which 96.0% were successfully annotated. In total, 67 gene family expansions and 93 gene family contractions were detected in the L. savala genome. Additionally, 1825 positively selected genes were identified. Based on a comparative genomic analysis, we screened a number of candidate genes associated with the specific morphology, behaviour-related immune system, and DNA repair mechanisms in L. savala . Our results preliminarily revealed mechanisms underlying the special morphological and behavioural characteristics of L. savala from a genomic perspective. Furthermore, this study provides valuable reference data for subsequent molecular ecology studies of L. savala and whole-genome analyses of other trichiurid fishes.

Soils store more carbon than other terrestrial ecosystems 1,2 . How soil organic carbon (SOC) forms and persists remains uncertain 1,3 , which makes it challenging to understand how it will respond to climatic change 3,4 . It has been suggested that soil microorganisms play an important role in SOC formation, preservation and loss 5-7 . Although microorganisms affect the accumulation and loss of soil organic matter through many pathways 4,6,8-11 , microbial carbon use efficiency (CUE) is an integrative metric that can capture the balance of these processes 12,13 . Although CUE has the potential to act as a predictor of variation in SOC storage, the role of CUE in SOC persistence remains unresolved 7,14,15 . Here we examine the relationship between CUE and the preservation of SOC, and interactions with climate, vegetation and edaphic properties, using a combination of global-scale datasets, a microbial-process explicit model, data assimilation, deep learning and meta-analysis. We find that CUE is at least four times as important as other evaluated factors, such as carbon input, decomposition or vertical transport, in determining SOC storage and its spatial variation across the globe. In addition, CUE shows a positive correlation with SOC content. Our findings point to microbial CUE as a major determinant of global SOC storage. Understanding the microbial processes underlying CUE and their environmental dependence may help the prediction of SOC feedback to a changing climate., (© 2023. The Author(s).)

Dissolved oxygen (DO) is essential for teleosts, and fluctuating environmental factors can result in hypoxic stress in the golden pompano (Trachinotus blochii). However, it is unknown whether different recovery speeds of DO concentration after hypoxia induce stress in T. blochii. In this study, T. blochii was subjected to hypoxic conditions (1.9 ± 0.2 mg/L) for 12 h followed by 12 h of reoxygenation at two different speeds (30 mg/L per hour and 1.7 mg/L per hour increasing). The gradual reoxygenation group (GRG), experienced DO recovery (1.9 ± 0.2 to 6.8 ± 0.2 mg/L) within 3 h, and the rapid reoxygenation group (RRG), experienced DO recovery (1.9 ± 0.2 to 6.8 ± 0.2 mg/L) within 10 min. Physiological and biochemical parameters of metabolism (glucose, glycegon, lactic acid (LD), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), pyruvic acid (PA), phosphofructokinase (PFKA), and hexokinase (HK), triglyceride (TG), lipoprotein lipase (LPL), carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1 (CPT-1)) and transcriptome sequencing (RNA-seq of liver) were monitored to identify the effects of the two reoxygenation speeds. Increased LD content and increased activity of LDH, PA, PFKA, and HK suggested enhanced anaerobic glycolysis under hypoxic stress. LD and LDH levels remained significantly elevated during reoxygenation, indicating that the effects of hypoxia were not immediately alleviated during reoxygenation. The expressions of PGM2, PFKA, GAPDH, and PK were increased in the RRG, which suggests that glycolysis was enhanced. The same pattern was not observed in the GRG. Additionally, In the RRG, reoxygenation may promote glycolysis to guarantee energy supply. However, the GRG may through the lipid metabolism such as steroid biosynthesis at the later stage of reoxygenation. In the aspect of apoptosis, differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in the RRG were enriched in the p53 signaling pathway, which promoted cell apoptosis, while DEGs in the GRG seem to activate cell apoptosis at early stage of reoxygenation but was restrained latterly. DEGs in both the RRG and the GRG were enriched in the NF-kappa B and JAK-STAT signaling pathways, the RRG may induce cell survival by regulating the expression of IL-12B, COX2, and Bcl-XL, while in the GRG it may induce by regulating the expression of IL-8. Moreover, DEGs in the RRG were also enriched in the Toll-like receptor signaling pathway. This population-based longitudinal follow-up study showed a protective effect of tea consumption against osteoporosis, particularly among women and middle-aged people. High tea consumption was also associated with a reduced risk of hip fracture., Introduction: To investigate the association of tea consumption with the risks of osteoporosis and hip fracture., Methods: This study used the Keelung Community-based Integrated Screening database and Taiwan's National Health Insurance Research Database. A total of 42,742 subjects aged 45 to 74 years were enrolled. Each was classified as no tea consumption, low tea consumption, and high tea consumption, according to the results of an eating habits questionnaire. The diagnosis of osteoporosis and hip fracture was based on BMD measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry and the X-ray findings. The median follow-up time was 8.5 years., Results: As compared with the no tea consumption group, the osteoporosis HRs for the low tea consumption and high tea consumption groups were 0.88 (95% confidence interval (CI) 0.80-0.96) and 0.87 (95% CI 0.80-0.94), respectively. Among those participants aged 59 or below, the osteoporosis HRs for low tea consumption and high tea consumption (vs. no tea consumption) were 0.85 (95% CI 0.74-0.96) and 0.79 (95% CI 0.69-0.90). The HRs of hip fracture for the low tea consumption and high tea consumption groups (vs. no tea consumption) were 0.85 (95% CI 0.67-1.08) and 0.69 (95% CI 0.55-0.86), respectively., Conclusion: Tea consumption was linked to a lower risk of osteoporosis, particularly among women and middle-aged people. Background: The monitoring of immunotherapies is still based on changes in the tumor size in imaging, with a long evaluation period and low sensitivity., Purpose: To investigate the effectiveness of diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI) and dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) in assessing the therapeutic efficacy of anti-programmed death-1 (PD-1) therapy in a mouse triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) model., Study Type: Prospective., Animal Model: A total of 54 BALB/c mouse subcutaneous 4 T1 transplantation models of TNBC., Field Strength/sequence: A 3.0-T; turbo spin echo (TSE) T2-weighted imaging, DKI with seven b values (0, 500, 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500, and 3000 sec/mm 2 ) and T1-twist DCE acquisition series., Assessment: DKI and DCE-MRI parameters were evaluated by two radiologists independently. Regions of interest (ROIs) were drawn manually on the maximum cross-sectional area of the lesion; care was taken to avoid necrotic areas. The tumor cell density, the CD45 and CD31 levels were analyzed by two pathologists., Statistical Tests: The two-tailed unpaired t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, Fisher's exact test and Pearson correlation coefficient were performed. A P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant., Results: The apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), mean diffusivity (MD), K trans and K ep values were significantly different between the two groups at each time point after treatment. There were significant differences in the mean kurtosis (MK) and V e values between the two groups at 5 and 10 days after treatment but no significant differences at 15 days (P = 0.317 and 0.183, respectively). The ADC and MD values were significantly correlated with tumor cell density (ADC, r = -0.833; MD, r = 0.890) and the CD45 level (ADC, r = 0.720; MD, r = 0.718). A kind of hydroxylated polymethoxyflavone (PMFs) existing in the citrus genus, 5-Demethyltangeretin (5-DTAN), has been reported to possess several bioactivities in vitro and in vivo. The aim of this study was to investigate whether acetylation could enhance the anticancer activity and oral bioavailability of 5-DTAN. PC-3 human prostate cancer cells were treated with tangeretin (TAN), 5-DTAN, and 5-acetylated TAN (5-ATAN), and the results showed that the cytotoxic effect 5-ATAN (IC50 value of 5.1 µM) on the cell viability of PC-3 cells was stronger than that of TAN (IC50 value of 17.2 µM) and 5-DTAN (IC50 value of 11.8 µM). Compared to 5-DTAN, 5-ATAN treatment caused a more pronounced DNA ladder, increased the sub-G1 phase population, and induced G2/M phase arrest in the cell cycle of PC-3 cells. We also found that 5-ATAN triggered the activation of caspase-3 and the progression of the intrinsic mitochondrial pathway in PC-3 cells, suggesting the induction of apoptosis. In a cell wound healing test, 5-ATAN dose-dependently reduced the cell migration, and the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) was decreased after 48 h of 5-ATAN treatment. Moreover, oral administration of 5-ATAN showed a significantly stronger inhibitory effect on tumor size and tumor weight in tumor-bearing nude mice than those of vehicle or the 5-DTAN group (p < 0.05). Furthermore, pharmacokinetic results showed that single-dose oral administration of 5-ATAN exhibited a higher maximum concentration (Cmax) and area under the curve (AUC) of 5-DTAN in plasma than that of 5-DTAN. More extensive distribution of 5-DTAN to most tissues of mice was also observed in mice treated with 5-ATAN for 7 days. In conclusion, acetylation strongly enhances the anticancer activity and oral bioavailability of 5-DTAN and could be a promising strategy to promote the potential bioactivities of natural products.

D-limonene (4-isopropenyl-1-methylcyclohexene) is an important compound in several citrus essential oils (such as orange, lemon, tangerine, lime, and grapefruit). It has been used as a flavoring agent and as a food preservative agent, with generally recognized as safe (GRAS) status. D-limonene has been well-studied for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-cancer, and antibacterial properties. The antibacterial activity of D-limonene against food-borne pathogens was investigated in this study by preparing a D-limonene nanoemulsion. The D-limonene solution and nanoemulsion have been prepared in six concentrations, 0.04%, 0.08%, 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.4%, and 0.8% ( v / v ), respectively, and the antibacterial activity was tested against four food-borne pathogens ( Staphylococcus aureus , Listeria monocytogenes , Salmonella enterica , and Escherichia coli ). The results showed that the D-limonene nanoemulsion had good nanoscale and overall particle size uniformity, and its particle size was about 3~5 nm. It has been found that the D-limonene solution and nanoemulsion have a minimal inhibitory concentration of 0.336 mg/mL, and that they could inhibit the growth of microorganisms efficiently. The data indicate that the D-limonene nanoemulsion has more antibacterial ability against microorganisms than the D-limonene essential oil. After bananas are treated with 1.0% and 1.5% D-limonene nanoemulsion coatings, the water loss of the bananas during storage and the percentage of weight loss are reduced, which can inhibit the activity of pectinase. The application of a biocoating provides a good degree of antibacterial activity and air and moisture barrier properties, which help with extending the shelf life of bananas.

Objectives: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a heterogeneous disease, and different histological subtypes of TNBC have different clinicopathological features and prognoses. Therefore, this study aimed to establish a nomogram model to predict the histological heterogeneity of TNBC: including Metaplastic Carcinoma (MC) and Non-Metaplastic Carcinoma (NMC)., Methods: We evaluated 117 patients who had pathologically confirmed TNBC between November 2016 and December 2020 and collected preoperative multiparameter MRI and clinicopathological data. The patients were randomly assigned to a training set and a validation set at a ratio of 3:1. Based on logistic regression analysis, we established a nomogram model to predict the histopathological subtype of TNBC. Nomogram performance was assessed with the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), calibration curve and decision curve. According to the follow-up information, disease-free survival (DFS) survival curve was estimated using the Kaplan-Meier product-limit method., Results: Of the 117 TNBC patients, 29 patients had TNBC-MC (age range, 29-65 years; median age, 48.0 years), and 88 had TNBC-NMC (age range, 28-88 years; median age, 44.5 years). Multivariate logistic regression analysis demonstrated that lesion type (p = 0.001) and internal enhancement pattern (p = 0.001) were significantly predictive of TNBC subtypes in the training set. The nomogram incorporating these variables showed excellent discrimination power with an AUC of 0.849 (95% CI: 0.750-0.949) in the training set and 0.819 (95% CI: 0.693-0.946) in the validation set. Up to the cutoff date for this analysis, a total of 66 patients were enrolled in the prognostic analysis. Six of 14 TNBC-MC patients experienced recurrence, while 7 of 52 TNBC-NMC patients experienced recurrence. Empathy is the ability to generate emotional responses (i.e., cognitive empathy) and to make cognitive inferences (i.e., affective empathy) to other people's emotions. Empirical evidence suggests that patients with bipolar disorder (BD) exhibit impairment in cognitive empathy, but findings on affective empathy are inconsistent. Few studies have examined the neural mechanisms of cognitive and affective empathy in patients with BD. In this study, we examined the empathy-related resting-state functional connectivity (rsFC) in BD patients. Thirty-seven patients with BD and 42 healthy controls completed the self-report Questionnaires of Cognitive and Affective Empathy (QCAE), the Yoni behavioural task, and resting-sate fMRI brain scans. Group comparison of empathic ability was conducted. The interactions between group and empathic ability on seed-based whole brain rsFC were examined. BD patients scored lower on the Online Simulation subscale of the QCAE and showed positive correlations between cognitive empathy and the rsFC of the dorsal Medial Prefrontal Cortex (dmPFC) with the lingual gyrus. The correlations between cognitive empathy and the rsFC of the temporal-parietal junction (TPJ) with the fusiform gyrus, the cerebellum and the parahippocampus were weaker in BD patients than that in healthy controls. Ketone-olefin coupling reactions are common methods for the formation of carbon-carbon bonds. This reaction class typically requires stoichiometric or super stoichiometric quantities of metal reductants, and catalytic variations are limited in application. Photoredox catalysis has offered an alternative method toward ketone-olefin coupling reactions, although most methods are limited in scope to easily reducible aromatic carbonyl compounds. Herein, we describe a mild, metal-free ketone-olefin coupling reaction using an excited-state acridine radical super reductant as a photoredox catalyst. We demonstrate both intramolecular and intermolecular ketone-olefin couplings of aliphatic and aromatic ketones and aldehydes. Mechanistic evidence is also presented supporting an " olefin first " ketone-olefin coupling mechanism.

Bacillus Thuringiensis (Bt) protein has a strong ability to complex with metal ions, which may increase the transport of metal ions in the soil multi-media system. In this study, the interactions between Cry1Ac protein and metal ions (Zn 2+ and Cd 2+ ) were investigated through spectroscopies and molecular docking methods. The spectra results showed that both Zn 2+ and Cd 2+ quenched the fluorescence intensity of Cry1Ac protein through the static quenching. The binding constants with 4-5 orders of magnitude also indicated the interactions between the ions and the Cry1Ac protein. The thermodynamic analysis showed that hydrogen bonds and van der Waals forces were predominant during the processes. In terms of the Förster non-radiation energy transfer theory, the binding distances between metal ions and Cry1Ac protein were approximately 0.21-0.24 nm, indicating the existence of a non-radiative energy transfer between them. Furthermore, molecular docking revealed that the metal ions participated in ligand binding with the Cry1Ac at the locations Asp569, Thr560, Asn564 and Gln566. The present work provided reasonable models helping us further understand the transport effect of heavy metals in the presence of Cry1Ac. The results could provide mechanistic insights into the nature of metal ions-Cry1Ac interactions and offer important information on the toxicity risk of metal ions-Cry1Ac binding interactions., (Copyright © 2022 Elsevier Ltd. Objective: To analyze the incidence and risk factors of otologic disorders in patients with Turner syndrome (TS), so as to provide management strategies for ear health. Methods: This study is a prospective study based on questionnaires and a cross-sectional study. The TS patients who visited our hospital from 2010 January to 2021 March were included (A total of 71 patients with TS were included in this study. the age of TS diagnosed was 3- to 11-year-old, age of visiting ENT department was 4- to 27-year-old) and the incidence of otologic diseases in different age groups was investigated by questionnaires. The cross-sectional study included ear morphology and auditory function assessment, and further analysis of the risk factors that related to ear disease. Prism was used for data analysis. Results: The investigation found that the incidence of acute otitis media in patients aged 3-6 and 7-12 years was higher than that of patients over 12 years old, which was 33.8%(24/71), 42.9%(30/70)and 23.5%(8/34), respectively; 21.1% (15/71) of patients were recurrent acute otitis media in patients aged 3-6 years, and about 46.6% (7/15)of them persisted beyond 6-year. The prevalence of otitis media with effusion in the three groups was 32.4%(23/71), 34.3%(24/70)and 38.2%(13/34), respectively; the recurrence rate of tympanocentesis was 100%(7/7), 42.9%(3/7)and 50.0%(1/2), which was significantly higher than that of grommet insertion. For age groups of 3-6 and 7-12 years, the prevalence of acute otitis media and secretory otitis media was lower in the X chromosome structure abnormal patients; while for patients older than 12 years, otitis media with effusion was the highest prevalence in Y-chromosome-containing karyotypes. In addition, the prevalence of acute otitis media and otitis media with effusion in patients with other system diseases were increased significantly. A cross-sectional study found that 7.0% (5/71)of the lower auricular, 4.2% (3/71)of the external auditory canal narrow, and 38.0% (27/71)of the tympanic membrane abnormality. 35.2%(25/71) had abnormal hearing, including 17 cases of conductive deafness, 6 cases of sensorineural hearing loss, and 2 cases of mixed deafness. The rest of the patients had normal hearing, but 6 of them had abnormalities in otoacoustic emission. Eustachian tube function assessment found that the eustachian tube dysfunction accounted for 38%(27/71). Hearing loss and abnormal Eustachian tube function were not significantly related to karyotype(Chi-square 2.83 and 2.84, P value 0.418 and 0.417), but significantly related to other system diseases(Chi-square 13.43 and 7.53, P value<0.001). Conclusions: The incidence of TS-related otitis media and auditory dysfunction is significantly higher than that of the general population. It not only occurs in preschool girls, but also persists or develops after school age. Accompanied by other system diseases are risk factors for ear diseases. Clinicians should raise their awareness of TS-related ear diseases and incorporate ear health monitoring into routine diagnosis and treatment.

Introduction: Osteoporosis has been linked to atherosclerotic diseases such as coronary heart disease and ischemic stroke. However, the relationship between osteoporosis and peripheral artery disease (PAD) has not been investigated. This study aims to evaluate the risk of PAD in patients with osteoporosis and the impact of sex on this association., Methods: This population-based study used the Longitudinal Health Insurance Database 2005, a subset of Taiwan's National Health Insurance research database. A total of 54,324 individuals between 40 and 79 years old were included in this study. The osteoporosis group (n = 27,162) consisted of patients with a diagnosis of osteoporosis between January 1, 2002, and December 31, 2006, while the non-osteoporosis group were patients without osteoporosis selected by stratified random sampling (n = 27,162). The primary outcome was the occurrence of newly diagnosed PAD. Cox proportional hazard regression modeling was used to evaluate the association between osteoporosis and the risk of PAD, with adjustment for the baseline characteristics., Results: The risk of PAD for the osteoporosis group was 28% higher than for the non-osteoporosis group (adjusted hazard ratio (HR) 1.28, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.20-1.36, p < 0.001), and the PAD-free survival rate was lower in the osteoporosis group (p < 0.001). Sex-stratified analysis revealed a similar HR magnitude between osteoporotic men (HR 1.36; 95% CI 1.19-1.57) and women (HR 1.25; 95% CI 1.17-1.35), compared with their non-osteoporotic counterparts., Conclusion: This study found an increased long-term risk of PAD in both men and women with osteoporosis. Osteoporosis has been associated with increased risks of atherosclerotic diseases. However, the relationship between osteoporosis and peripheral artery disease remains uncertain. Objective: To compare the effects of levo-praziquantel (L-PZQ) and dextro-praziquantel (D-PZQ) on the proliferation and activation of the human hepatic stellate cell line LX-2 in vitro ., Methods: LX-2 cells were stimulated with transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β). LX-2 cell proliferation was measured using the CCK-8 assay after 24 h stimulation with 0 to 50 μg/mL concentrations of praziquantel, and the gene and protein expression of type Ⅰ collagen (collagen Ⅰ), type Ⅲ collagen (collagen Ⅲ) and α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) was quantified in LX-2 cells using quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) and Western blotting assays 24 h and 48 h following stimulation with 15 μg/mL praziquantel to detect LX-2 cell activation., Results: There were significant differences in the survival rate of LX-2 cells between L-PZQ and D-PZQ treatments at all concentrations ( F = 6.119 and 79.180, both P values < 0.05). Either L-PZQ or D-PZQ at a concentration of < 30 μg/mL showed no remarkableeffectsonthe LX-2 cell proliferation (both P values > 0.05), and L-PZQ at a concentration of > 50 μg/mL and D-PZQ at a concentration of > 40 μg/mL inhibited the LX-2 cell proliferation (both P values < 0.05), while D-PZQ at concentrations of 40 μg/mL and 50 μg/mL showed greater inhibition on LX-2 cell proliferation than L-PZQ ( t = 3.419 and 8.776, both P values < 0.05). There were significant differences in the collagen Ⅰ, collagen Ⅲ and α-SMA expression in LX-2 cells at both transcriptional ( F = 21.55, 79.99 and 46.70, all P values < 0.05) and translational levels ( F = 20.12, 30.29 and 32.93, all P values < 0.05) among the blank control group, TGF-β stimulation group, L-PZQ treatment group and D-PZQ treatment group. L-PZQ treatment resulted in remarkable inhibition on collagen Ⅲ and α- SMA gene expression in LX-2 cells (both P values < 0.05); however, the treatment showed no remarkable inhibition collagen Ⅰ gene expression or collagen Ⅰ, collagen Ⅲ or α-SMA protein expression in LX-2 cells (all P values > 0.05). In addition, D-PZQ treatment resulted in significant inhibition on collagen Ⅰ, collagen Ⅲ and α-SMA expression in LX-2 cells at both translational and transcriptional levels (all P values < 0.05), and D-PZQ showed higher inhibition on collagen Ⅰ, collagen Ⅲ and α- SMA gene expression in LX-2 cells than L-PZQ (all P values < 0.05)., Conclusions: Both L-PZQ and D-PZQ inhibit the proliferation and activation of LX-2 cells, and D-PZQ shows a higher inhibitory activity than L-PZQ.

Objective: To systematically investigate the effect of imaging features at different DCE-MRI phases to optimise a radiomics model based on DCE-MRI for the prediction of tumour-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) levels in breast cancer., Materials and Methods: This study retrospectively collected 133 patients with pathologically proven breast cancer, including 73 patients with low TIL levels and 60 patients with high TIL levels. The volumes of breast cancer lesions were manually delineated on T2-weighted imaging (T2WI), diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), and each phase of DCE-MRI, followed by 6250 quantitative feature extractions. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) method was used to select predictive feature sets for the classifiers. Four models were developed for predicting TILs: (1) single enhanced phase radiomics models; (2) fusion enhanced multi-phase radiomics models; (3) fusion multi-sequence radiomics models; and (4) a combined radiomics-based clinical model., Results: Image features extracted from the delayed phase MRI, especially DCE&#95;Phase 6 (DCE&#95;P6), demonstrated dominant predictive performances over features from other phases. The fusion multi-sequence radiomics model and combined radiomics-based clinical model achieved the highest predictive performances with areas under the curve (AUCs) of 0.934 and 0.950, respectively; however, the differences were not statistically significant., Conclusion: The DCE-MRI radiomics model, especially image features extracted from the delayed phases, can help improve the performance in predicting TILs. Background: Members of the genus Novius Mulsant, 1846 (= Rodolia Mulsant, 1850) (Coleoptera, Coccinellidae), play important roles in the biological control of cotton cushion scale pests, especially those belonging to Icerya. Since the best-known species, the vedalia beetle Novius cardinalis (Mulsant, 1850) was introduced into California from Australia, more than a century of successful use in classical biological control, some species of Novius have begun to exhibit some field adaptations to novel but related prey species. Despite their economic importance, relatively little is known about the underlying genetic adaptations associated with their feeding habits. Knowledge of the genome sequence of Novius is a major step towards further understanding its biology and potential applications in pest control., Results: We report the first high-quality genome sequence for Novius pumilus (Weise, 1892), a representative specialist of Novius. Computational Analysis of gene Family Evolution (CAFE) analysis showed that several orthogroups encoding chemosensors, digestive, and immunity-related enzymes were significantly expanded (P < 0.05) in N. pumilus compared to the published genomes of other four ladybirds. Furthermore, some of these orthogroups were under significant positive selection pressure (P < 0.05). Notably, transcriptome profiling demonstrated that many genes among the significantly expanded and positively selected orthogroups, as well as genes related to detoxification were differentially expressed, when N. pumilus feeding on the nature prey Icerya compared with the no feeding set. We speculate that these genes are vital in the Icerya adaptation of Novius species., Conclusions: We report the first Novius genome thus far. In addition, we provide comprehensive transcriptomic resources for N. pumilus. The results from this study may be helpful for understanding the association of the evolution of genes related to chemosensing, digestion, detoxification and immunity with the prey adaptation of insect predators. This will provide a reference for future research and utilization of Novius in biological control programs. During the production and application of Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) transgenic crops, large doses of insecticidal Bt toxic proteins are expressed continuously. The multi-interfacial behaviors of Bt proteins entering the environment in multi-media affects their states of existence transformation, transport and fate as well as biological and ecological impacts. Because both soil matrix and organisms will be exposed to Bt proteins to a certain extent, knowledge of the multi-interfacial behaviors and affecting factors of Bt proteins are vital not only for understanding the source-sink distribution mechanisms, predicting their bio-availability, but also for exploring the soil safety and environmental problems caused by the interaction between Bt proteins and soil matrix. This review summarized and analyzed various internal and external factors that affect the adsorption/ desorption and degradation of Bt proteins in the environment, so as to understand the multi-interfacial behaviors of Bt proteins. In addition, the reasons of concentration changes of Bt proteins in soil are discussed. This review will also discuss the existing knowledge of the combined effects of Bt proteins and other pollutants in environment. In video processing, background initialization aims to obtain a scene without foreground objects. Recently, the background initialization problem has attracted the attention of researchers because of its real-world applications, such as video segmentation, computational photography, video surveillance, etc. However, the background initialization problem is still challenging because of the complex variations in illumination, intermittent motion, camera jitter, shadow, etc. This paper proposes a novel and effective background initialization method using singular spectrum analysis. Firstly, we extract the video's color frames and split them into RGB color channels. Next, RGB color channels of the video are saved as color channel spatio-temporal data. After decomposing the color channel spatio-temporal data by singular spectrum analysis, we obtain the stable and dynamic components using different eigentriple groups. Our study indicates that the stable component contains a background image and the dynamic component includes the foreground image. Finally, the color background image is reconstructed by merging RGB color channel images obtained by reshaping the stable component data. Experimental results on the public scene background initialization databases show that our proposed method achieves a good color background image compared with state-of-the-art methods.

Schistosomiasis is caused by dioecious helminths of the genus Schistosoma. Recent work indicated that unpaired female and male schistosomes can survive within their definitive host for at least 1 year, although the viability or fertility of these worms after subsequent pairing remained untested. We performed two experiments on laboratory mice, one with female Schistosoma japonicum exposure first and male schistosomes second and another vice versa. After surviving as single-sex unpaired forms for up to 1 year, 58.5% of male and 70% of female schistosomes were able to mate and produce viable eggs. Immune-related skin disorders (inflammatory skin diseases and autoimmune diseases) are important diseases in dermatology. Systemic inflammation is the fundamental cause that makes these diseases difficult to control and easy to relapse. The treatment pattern of rheumatic immune diseases could be used as a reference to reach the treat-to-target (T2T) of severe immune/inflammatory skin disorders, thus to reduce systemic inflammatory damage, to effectively control symptoms in the long term, to improve the quality of life, and to help patients back to normal study/work/life status.

Objective: To investigate the sensitivity of adult worms of filial generations from praziquantel-resistant and -sensitive Schistosoma japonicum mixed infections to praziquantel., Methods: Mice were infected with the cercariae of an experimentally generated praziquantel-resistant S. japonicum isolate [median effective dose (ED 50 ) = 277.4 mg/kg] and a laboratory-maintained praziquantel-sensitive S. japonicum isolate (ED 50 = 99.6 mg/kg) at a mixture ratio of 1:1 and 2:1, which was maintained in the laboratory via the mouse-snail cycle for 8 generations. Then, mice were infected with the cercariae of the 8th filial-generation parasite, and grouped 35 days post-infection. Mice in the 5 treatment groups were given praziquantel treatment by gavage at a single oral dose of 37.5, 75, 150, 300 mg/kg and 600 mg/kg, while animals in the control group was administered orally with 2.5% cremophor EL. All mice were sacrificed 14 days post-treatment and adult worms were collected by perfusion of the portal vein. The worm burden reductions and praziquantel ED 50 values were calculated. The praziquantel-resistant S. japonicum isolate generated from experimental induction with 12 rounds of praziquantel treatment with sub-curative doses was maintained in the laboratory via the mouse-snail cycle, and mice were infected with the cercariae of the 8th filial-generation parasite. The praziquantel ED 50 value against the 8th filial-generation adults was measured., Results: After mice were infected with the mixture of cercariae of PZQ-resistant and -sensitive S. japonicum isolates at a ratio of 1:1, the praziquantel ED 50 was 135.2 mg/kg against the adults of the 8th filial-generation parasite. After mice were infected with the mixture of cercariae of PZQ-resistant and -sensitive S. japonicum isolates at a ratio of 2:1, the praziquantel ED 50 was 129.2 mg/kg against the adults of the 8th filial-generation parasite. In addition, the praziquantel ED 50 was 208.4 mg/kg against the adults of the 8th filial-generation S. japonicum without the selection pressure of praziquantel., Conclusions: Compared with the experimentally induced praziquantel-resistant S. japonicum isolate, the adult worms of the filial-generation S. japonicum show a reduced sensitivity to praziquantel in the same host following infection with the mixture of cercariae of praziquantel-resistant and -sensitive S. japonicum isolates. The adult worms of the filial generation of the praziquantel-resistant S. japonicum isolate without the selection pressure of praziquantel may still maintain the resistance to praziquantel.

Background: Bone morphogenetic protein 5 (BMP5) has been identified as one of the important risk factors for microtia; however, the link between them has yet to be clarified. In this study, we aimed to demonstrate the relationship of BMP5 with mitochondrial function and investigate the specific role of mitochondria in regulating microtia development., Methods: BMP5 expression was measured in auricular cartilage tissues from patients with and without microtia. The effects of BMP5 knockdown on cellular function and mitochondrial function were also analyzed in vitro . Changes in genome-wide expression profiles were measured in BMP5-knockdown cells. Finally, the specific impact of BMP5 down-regulation on mitochondrial fat oxidation was analyzed in vitro ., Results: BMP5 expression was down-regulated in the auricular cartilage tissues of microtia patients. BMP5 down-regulation inhibited various cellular functions in vitro , including cell proliferation, mobility, and cytoactivity. The functional integrity of mitochondria was also damaged, accompanied by a decrease in mitochondrial membrane potential, reactive oxygen species (ROS) neutralization, and reduced adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production. Carnitine O-palmitoyltransferase 2 and diacylglycerol acyltransferase 2, two of the key regulators of mitochondrial lipid oxidation, were also found to be decreased by BMP5 down-regulation., Conclusions: Down-regulation of BMP5 affects glycerolipid metabolism and fatty acid degradation, leading to mitochondrial dysfunction, reduced ATP production, and changes in cell function, and ultimately resulting in microtia. Long-term immunoreactivity to mycobacterial antigens in Bovis Calmette-Guérin (BCG)-vaccinated population is not well investigated. Herein, 361 volunteer healthy donors (HDs) with neonatal BCG vaccination from Shanghai region (China) were enrolled. They were subdivided into ESAT-6/CFP10 - (E6C10 - ) and ESAT-6/CFP10 + (E6C10 + ) groups based on gamma-interferon release assays (IGRAs). Three mycobacterial antigens, including Rv0934, Rv3006, and Rv3841, were subjected to the determination of immunoreactivity by ELISPOT assay. The immunoreactivities to three mycobacterial antigens were firstly compared among TB patients (N=39), E6C10 + HDs (N=78, 21.61% of HDs) and E6C10 - HDs (N=283, 78.39% of HDs). It was revealed that Rv3006 was dominant upon M.tb infection, while Rv3841 was likely to be more responsive upon latent TB infection. In E6C10 - population, the immunoreactivity to Rv3841 maintained along with aging, whereas those to Rv3006 and Rv0934 attenuated in E6C10 - HDs older than 45 years old. Objective: To investigate the prevalence of Spirometra mansoni infections in hosts in Jiangsu Province, so as to provide the scientific basis for the management of sparganosis mansoni., Methods: From 2018 to 2019, nine counties (cities, districts) were randomly selected from Jiangsu Province as the survey sites, and 100 healthy individuals were randomly selected to perform the serological test of S. mansoni infections and the detection of S. mansoni eggs. The procercoids were detected in the intermediate host Cyclops , and the S. mansoni eggs were identified in the stool samples of the definitive hosts cats and dogs., Results: The prevalence of S. mansoni human infections was 0 (0/900) in the 9 survey sites of Jiangsu Province, and the sero-prevalence of the specific IgG antibody against S. mansoni was 1.22% (11/900). The positive rate of procercoids was 0.33% (3/900) in Cyclops . In addition, the S. mansoni egg-positive rate was 1.48% (2/135) in cats and dogs., Conclusions: Sparganosis mansoni is prevalent in Jiangsu Province. Health education pertaining to the damages of sparganosis mansoni and the route of S. mansoni infections should be improved.

Purpose: To assess whether apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) metrics can be used to assess tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) levels in breast cancer, particularly in the molecular subtypes of breast cancer., Methods: In total, 114 patients with breast cancer met the inclusion criteria (mean age: 52 years; range: 29-85 years) and underwent multi-parametric breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The patients were imaged by diffusion-weighted (DW)-MRI (1.5 T) using a single-shot spin-echo echo-planar imaging sequence. Two readers independently drew a region of interest (ROI) on the ADC maps of the whole tumor. The mean ADC and histogram parameters (10 th , 25 th , 50 th , 75 th , and 90 th percentiles of ADC, skewness, entropy, and kurtosis) were used as features to analyze associations with the TIL levels in breast cancer. Additionally, the correlation between the ADC values and Ki-67 expression were analyzed. Continuous variables were compared with Student's t-test or Mann-Whitney U test if the variables were not normally distributed. Categorical variables were compared using Pearson's chi-square test or Fisher's exact test. Associations between TIL levels and imaging features were evaluated by the Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis tests., Results: A statistically significant difference existed in the 10 th and 25 th percentile ADC values between the low and high TIL groups in breast cancer ( P =0.012 and 0.027). For the luminal subtype of breast cancer, the 10 th percentile ADC value was significantly lower in the low TIL group ( P =0.041); for the non-luminal subtype of breast cancer, the kurtosis was significantly lower in the low TIL group ( P =0.023). The Ki-67 index showed statistical significance for evaluating the TIL levels in breast cancer ( P =0.007). Tomato is an economic crop worldwide. Many limiting factors reduce the production of tomato, with bacterial wilt caused by Ralstonia solanacearum being the most destructive disease. Our previous study showed that the disease resistance to bacterial soft rot is enhanced by Bacillus amyloliquefaciens strain PMB05. This enhanced resistance is associated with the intensification of pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMP)-triggered immunity (PTI). To determine whether the PTI-intensifying Bacillus spp. strains are able to confer disease resistance to bacterial wilt, their effects on PTI signals triggered by PAMP from R. solanacearum and on the occurrence of bacterial wilt were assayed. Before assay, a gene that encodes harpin from R. solanacearum , PopW, was applied as a PAMP. Results revealed that the B. amyloliquefaciens strain PMB05 was the one strain among 9 Bacillus rhizobacterial strains which could significantly intensify the PopW-induced hypersensitive response (HR) on Arabidopsis leaves. Moreover, we observed that the signals of PopW-induced reactive oxygen species generation and callose deposition were increased, confirming that the PTI was intensified by PMB05. The intensification of the PopW-triggered HR by PMB05 in Arabidopsis was reduced upon treatment with inhibitors in PTI pathways. Furthermore, the application of Bacillus spp. strains on tomato plants showed that only the use of PMB05 resulted in significantly increased resistance to bacterial wilt. Moreover, the PTI signals were also intensified in the tomato leaves. Taken together, we demonstrated that PMB05 is a PTI-intensifying bacterium that confers resistance to tomato bacterial wilt. Objective: To investigate the factors affecting the degradation of niclosamide in the soil, so as to provide the evidence for the assessment of the environmental safety in the field snail control with niclosamide., Methods: A high performance liquid chromatography was established for the determination of niclosamide in the field. Then, the degradation of niclosamide was investigated in soils with different moistures (10%, 30%, 50%, 70% and 90%), temperatures [(15 ± 1), (25 ± 1), (35 ± 1) °C], initial concentrations (1, 5, 10 mg/kg) and in sterilized and non-sterilized soils. In addition, the degradation of niclosamide was fitted with the first-order kinetics equation, and the degradation half-life was calculated., Results: The niclosamide residues gradually decreased over time in soils with different moistures, and a higher rate of degradation was seen in soils with a higher moisture. The degradation half-life of niclosamide reduced from 4.258 d in the soil with a 10% moisture to 2.412 d in the soil with a 90% moisture. The niclosamide residues gradually decreased over time in soils with different temperatures, and a higher rate of degradation was seen in soils with a higher temperature. The degradation half-life of niclosamide reduced from 4.398 d in the soil with a temperature of (15 ± 1) °C to 2.828 d in the soil with a temperature of (35 ± 1) °C. The degradation half-lives of niclosamide were 3.212, 3.333 d and 3.448 d in soils containing niclosamide at initial concentrations of 1, 5 mg/kg and 10 mg/kg, and > 30 d and 3.273 d in sterilized and non-sterilized soils. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that soil microorganisms ( P = 0.010), moisture ( P = 0.000) and temperature ( P = 0.002) affected the half-life of niclosamide degradation., Conclusions: The degradation of niclosamide in soils fits the first-order kinetics equation, and presence of microorganisms, a high temperature and high moisture may accelerate the degradation of niclosamide in the soil.

Introduction: Alteration of empathy is common in patients with psychiatric disorders. Reliable and valid assessment tools for measuring empathy of clinical samples is needed. The Questionnaire of Cognitive and Affective Empathy (QCAE) is a newly-developed instrument to capture cognitive and affective components of empathy. This study aimed to validate the QCAE and compared self-reported empathy between clinical groups with varied psychiatric diagnoses and healthy sample., Methods: The present study performed factor analysis for the QCAE on clinical samples in the Chinese setting (n = 534), including patients with schizophrenia (n = 158), bipolar disorder (n = 213) and major depressive disorder (n = 163). Internal consistency, internal correlation and convergent validity was examined in the subsample (n = 361). Group comparison among patients with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder and healthy controls (n = 107) was conducted to assess the discriminant validity., Results: Our results indicated acceptable factor model, good reliability and validity of the QCAE. Impaired cognitive empathy was found in clinical samples, especially in patients with schizophrenia, while higher affective empathy was found in patients with bipolar disorder and major depressive disorder., Conclusion: The QCAE is a useful tool in assessing empathy in patients with varied psychiatric diagnoses.

A phenomenon in schizophrenia patients that deserves attention is the high comorbidity rate with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Little is known about the neurobiological basis of schizo-obsessive comorbidity (SOC). We aimed to investigate whether specific changes in white matter exist in patients with SOC and the relationship between such abnormalities and clinical parameters. Twenty-eight patients with SOC, 28 schizophrenia patients, 30 OCD patients, and 30 demographically matched healthy controls were recruited. Using Tract-based Spatial Statistics and Probabilistic Tractography, we examined the pattern of white matter abnormalities in these participants. We also used ANOVA and Support Vector Classification of various white matter indices and structural connection probability to further examine white matter changes among the 4 groups. We found that patients with SOC had decreased fractional anisotropy (FA) and increased radial diffusivity in the right sagittal stratum and the left crescent of the fornix/stria terminalis compared with healthy controls. We also found changed connection probability in the Default Mode Network, the Subcortical Network, the Attention Network, the Task Control Network, the Visual Network, the Somatosensory Network, and the cerebellum in the SOC group compared with the other 3 groups. The classification results further revealed that FA features could differentiate the SOC group from the other 3 groups with an accuracy of .78. Schistosomiasis was once heavily endemic in Jiangsu Province. Following the control efforts for several decades, schistosomiasis was almost eradicated in all endemic counties in Jiangsu Province in 1980, and transmission control was achieved in the province in 2011. According to the principle of "implementing the control measures with adaptation to local circumstances and guiding the control programs with classified interventions", an integrated strategy with emphasis on the management of both infectious sources and snails has been recently employed for schitsosomiasis control in Jiangsu Province. In addition, a sensitive and highly effective surveillance system has been built and the application of novel techniques and information construction has been intensified to effectively interrupt the transmission of schistosomiasis in the Province. Transmission interruption of schistosomiasis was achieved in all endemic counties in Jiangsu Province. The paper summarizes the endemic situation of schistosomiasis, progress of schistosomiasis control, and major schistosomiasis control measures implemented during the stage of transmission interruption in Jiangsu Province.

The Questionnaire of Cognitive and Affective Empathy (QCAE) is a commonly used instrument in empathy research. However, this scale has not been validated in the Chinese context. We examined the psychometric properties and structure of the QCAE in a Chinese sample consisting of 1224 college students. The whole sample was split into two halves for exploratory factor analysis (EFA; n = 617) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA; n = 607). A subsample (n = 351) completed the Chinese versions of the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI) to examine convergent validity and the Revised Social Anhedonia Scale (RSAS) to examine the discriminate validity. Finally, 79 participants of the above subsample were retested after a 4-week interval. Results from EFA and CFA suggested a five-factor model, namely Perspective Taking, Online Simulation, Emotional Contagion, Proximal Responsivity, and Peripheral Responsivity. The internal consistency was .86 and test-retest reliability was .76. Scores on the QCAE positively correlated with scores on the IRI and negatively correlated with scores on the RSAS. The Chinese version of the QCAE exhibited good factor structure, reliability, and validity. Schistosomiasis remains one of the world's most significant neglected tropical diseases, second only to malaria in terms of socioeconomic impact. In 2014, China proposed the goal of schistosomiasis japonicum elimination by 2025. However, one major challenge is the widely distributed, and in certain cases potentially increasing, habitats of Oncomelania hupensis, the snail intermediate hosts of S. japonicum. Therefore, an understanding of population genetics of O. hupensis in new or re-emerged habitats, together with that of the established habitats with snail persistence, would be valuable in controlling and predicting the future transmission dynamics of schistosomiasis in China. Using nine microsatellite loci, we conducted population genetic analyses of snails sampled from one habitat where snails were detected for the first time, one (previously eliminated) habitat with re-emerged snails, and one habitat with established snail persistence. Results showed lower diversities, in terms of number of observed alleles per locus (Na), number of effective alleles per locus (NeA), observed (Ho) and expected heterozygosity (He), in snails from new or re-emerged snail habitats than from the habitat with snail persistence. The smallest effective population size was inferred in the re-emerged snail habitat, but the largest was in the new habitat rather than in the habitat with snail persistence. No bottleneck effects were detected in new or re-merged habitats. No or low sub-structure was inferred in new and persistent snail habitats. Snails from the three sites were clearly separated and low gene flow was estimated between sites. We propose that snails at the new habitat may have been introduced through immigration, whereas snails at the re-emerged habitat may be the consequence of those few snails remaining subsequently expanding through reproduction. Background: Schistosomiasis japonica is a zoonotic parasitic disease. After nearly 70 years of control efforts in China, Schistosomiasis transmission has been reduced to a much lower level. The absence or near absence of infections in humans or livestock, based on traditional fecal and serological tests, has made the targets and priorities of future control efforts difficult to determine. However, detection of schistosome cercariae in waters using sentinel mice could be an alternative way of identifying remaining foci of infection, or even serve as a tool for evaluation of control efficacy. This method has been employed in China over last forty years. We therefore performed a meta-analysis of the relevant research to investigate if infections in sentinel mice mirror the ongoing trend of schistosomiasis transmission in China., Methods: We conducted a meta-analysis of studies reporting infection rates of S. japonicum in sentinel mice in China before Sep 1, 2018 in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines. We retrieved all relative studies based on five databases (CNKI, WanFang, VIP, PubMed and Web of Science) and the reference lists of resulting articles. For each individual study, the infection rate in sentinel mice is presented together with its 95% confidence interval (CI). Point estimates of the overall infection rates and their 95% CIs were calculated. Subgroup analyses were performed according to study periods, seasons or regions., Results: We identified 90 articles, including 290 studies covering eight endemic provinces. The overall rate in sentinel mice was 12.31% (95% CI: 10.14-14.65%) from 1980 to 2018. The value of 3.66% (95% CI: 2.62-4.85%) estimated in 2004 to 2018 was significantly lower than in 1980 to 2003 (22.96%, 95% CI: 19.25-26.89%). The estimate was significantly higher in the middle and lower reaches than in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. The highest estimates were obtained in Hunan (30.11%, 95% CI: 25.64-34.77%) followed by Anhui (26.34%, 95% CI: 12.88-42.44%) and then Jiangxi (13.73%, 95% CI: 6.71-22.56%). Unlike the other provinces in the middle and lower reaches, no significant reduction was seen in Hubei after 2003. Even in Hubei two studies carried out after 2014 reported infections in sentinel mice, although no infected snails were reported across the province. Infections were most found in April (17.40%, 95% CI: 1.13-45.49%), July (24.98%, 95% CI: 15.64-35.62%) and October (17.08%, 95% CI 5.94-32.05%). High degrees of heterogeneity were observed., Conclusion: This meta-analysis provides a comprehensive analysis of schistosome infection in sentinel mice across China. The estimates largely mirror the ongoing trends of transmission in terms of periods and regions. Infections were most likely to occur in April, July and October. In areas where no infected snails were reported infections in sentinel mice were still observed. Due to the presence of snails and infected wildlife, detection of schistosomes in waters using such a highly sensitive method as the deployment of sentinel mice, remains of importance in schistosomiasis monitoring. We would suggest the current criteria for transmission interruption or elimination of schistosomiasis in China be adjusted by integrating the results of sentinel mice based surveys., Competing Interests: The authors have declared that no competing interests exist.

Few studies have examined the antecedents of nutrition involvement. Similarly, conflicting results have been recorded on the relationship between nutrition involvement and knowledge, knowledge and dietary behaviors, and nutrition involvement and dietary behaviors. This paper addresses these research gaps by exploring the role of regulatory focus as an antecedent of nutrition involvement. It also examines the effect of nutrition involvement on nutrition knowledge and the effects of both involvement and knowledge on diet adjustment. A large-scale study with 1125 Taiwanese consumers demonstrates a positive effect of promotion focus and no significant effect of prevention focus, on nutrition involvement. Income moderates the effect of promotion focus on nutrition involvement, which in turn has positive effects on nutrition knowledge and diet adjustment. Background: Cancer associated fibroblasts (CAFs) are key stroma cells that play dominant roles in tumor progression. However, the CAFs-derived molecular determinants that regulate colorectal cancer (CRC) metastasis and chemoresistance have not been fully characterized., Methods: CAFs and NFs were obtained from fresh CRC and adjacent normal tissues. Exosomes were isolated from conditioned medium and serum of CRC patients using ultracentrifugation method and ExoQuick Exosome Precipitation Solution kit, and characterized by transmission electronic microscopy, nanosight and western blot. MicroRNA microarray was employed to identify differentially expressed miRNAs in exosomes secreted by CAFs or NFs. The internalization of exosomes, transfer of miR-92a-3p was observed by immunofluorescence. Boyden chamber migration and invasion, cell counting kit-8, flow cytometry, plate colony formation, sphere formation assays, tail vein injection and primary colon cancer liver metastasis assays were employed to explore the effect of NFs, CAFs and exosomes secreted by them on epithelial-mesenchymal transition, stemness, metastasis and chemotherapy resistance of CRC. Luciferase report assay, real-time qPCR, western blot, immunofluorescence, and immunohistochemistry staining were employed to explore the regulation of CRC metastasis and chemotherapy resistance by miR-92a-3p, FBXW7 and MOAP1., Results: CAFs promote the stemness, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), metastasis and chemotherapy resistance of CRC cells. Importantly, CAFs exert their roles by directly transferring exosomes to CRC cells, leading to a significant increase of miR-92a-3p level in CRC cells. Mechanically, increased expression of miR-92a-3p activates Wnt/β-catenin pathway and inhibits mitochondrial apoptosis by directly inhibiting FBXW7 and MOAP1, contributing to cell stemness, EMT, metastasis and 5-FU/L-OHP resistance in CRC. Clinically, miR-92a-3p expression is significantly increased in CRC tissues and negatively correlated with the levels of FBXW7 and MOAP1 in CRC specimens, and high expression of exosomal miR-92a-3p in serum was highly linked with metastasis and chemotherapy resistance in CRC patients., Conclusions: CAFs secreted exosomes promote metastasis and chemotherapy resistance of CRC. Inhibiting exosomal miR-92a-3p provides an alternative modality for the prediction and treatment of metastasis and chemotherapy resistance in CRC.
