5. Safety assessment of enzymatically converted chicken bile as a novel food material: Genotoxicity, teratogenicity, and acute and subchronic toxicity studies.

Abstract

Enzymatically converted chicken bile (CB), prepared by converting taurine deoxycholic acid (TCDCA) to taurine ursodeoxycholic acid (TUDCA) in CB, possesses various functional activities. But their nutrient composition and safety assessment have not been fully investigated yet. CB was mainly composed of proteins and steroids. CB did not show genotoxic effects based on Ames test, mammalian erythrocyte micronucleus test, and in vitro mammalian chromosomal aberration test. There were no growth abnormalities or deaths in the acute toxicity test for mice, indicating that CB is nontoxic with an LD50 > 10 g/kg·body weight (BW). Subchronic toxicity test and genotoxicity test were performed based on intake of 0.5 g CB per person daily at expanded doses of 33.3, 100, and 300 times (278, 833, and 2500 mg/kg·BW). The result indicated that CB at 833 mg/kg·BW showed no toxicity on BW, body weight gain, food intake, hematological, serum biochemistry, absolute/relative organ weights, urinalysis, and pathological features of rats in the subchronic toxicity test, while CB at 833 mg/kg·BW induced maternal toxicity with no fetus teratogenicity or embryotoxicity in the teratogenicity test. In conclusion, CB did not show toxic effects and a long‐term daily intake of CB at 0.5 g per person is considered safe, but pregnant women should avoid it. Abstract

The integration of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectroscopy with magnetic fluid provides significant utility in point-of-care (POC) testing applications. Bifunctional magnetic–plasmonic composites have been widely employed as SERS substrates. In this study, a simple and cost-effective approach was developed to synthesize magnetic–plasmonic SERS substrates by decorating silver nanoparticles onto magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles (AgMNPs), which function both as SERS-active substrates and magnetic fluid particles. The strong magnetic responsivity from AgMNPs can isolate, concentrate, and detect target analytes from the irregular surface of fish skin rapidly. We fabricate a microfluid chip with three sample reservoirs that confine AgMNPs into ever smaller volumes under an applied magnetic field, which enhances the SERS signal and improves the detection limit by two orders of magnitude. The magnetic fluid POC sensor successfully detected malachite green from fish with excellent selectivity and high sensitivity down to the picomolar level. This work achieves a label-free, non-destructive optical sensing approach with promising potential for the detection of various harmful ingredients in food or the environment.

16. A Resonant Gas Sensor With Functional Composite Stress Generator

Abstract

A bridge resonator consisting of a microbeam and a functional composite membrane is proposed in this work for gas detection. The gas molecules adsorbed onto the membrane will generate an axis compressive stress on the micro clamped–clamped beam to decrease the bending stiffness by expanding the designed silicon slits structure, as well as increase the effective mass of the resonator. The resonant frequency shift of the proposed sensor is thus greater than those based only on mass change or stiffness change, showing higher gas sensitivity. The bridge structure of the sensor was successfully fabricated for experimental study. To explore the response of the proposed sensor to humidity, various relative humidities (RHs) produced in a designed measuring system are applied to a test chamber. The evaluation results showed that the resonant frequency of the sensor decreases with the increase of humidity. Significantly, there is an apparent linear relationship between resonant frequency and RH of 28 Hz per 1% RH with negligible deviations and the linear goodness of fit can reach 99.65% when the RH is lower than 12%. The results indicate a high sensing resolution of 0.5% and high repeatability. Besides, the detection of $\text{H}_{{2}}\text{S}$ gas with a low concentration of 5 ppm is demonstrated by this proposed resonant gas sensor. With the proper selection of the functional membrane, an array of sensors is potential to be applied in detecting various volatile gas components in human breath and in atmosphere.

Abstract

With the rapid development of power communication networks, the bandwidth allocation of a certain site has become the focus of research. The current method of bandwidth calculation is to utilize the formula provided by the national grid file, including four parameters including concurrency coefficient. However, the method of determining the concurrency coefficient is mainly determined by empirical formulas, which does not perform very well. This paper proposes a method for optimizing the concurrent coefficients based on Gaussian process regression. The experiment shows that the error of the result obtained by the optimized concurrency coefficient is smaller than the original one.

Abstract

Power communication network is crucial for the stability and the efficiency of power grid system. To optimize communication network, bandwidth requirement of power grid must be estimated accurately. However, accurate bandwidth estimation for power grid is still an unresolved problem, mainly because bandwidth requirement may vary drastically for different power grid sites. In this paper, we propose an analysis method of bandwidth and site based on Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). In this method, node strength, site type, basic bandwidth and redundancy coefficient are introduced as indicators of the impact of site on bandwidth. The relative weights of different indicators are expressed by a judgment matrix. After passing the consistent test, the influence of different sites on bandwidth is obtained. Finally, an example is given to illustrate the validity of the model.

Abstract

The current method of analyzing the relationship between communication service and bandwidth requirement in the power communication network is simple. It uses a single formula with predetermined constant parameters to calculate the bandwidth of each communication service for a given site which can not show the relative bandwidth demand of different services. This paper proposes a combined AHP and hierarchical clustering method to analyze the relative bandwidth requirement of each service. This method is based on AHP to analyze the impact of different factors on bandwidth and use hierarchical clustering method to aggregate services with similar communication needs into the same class, and it shows different services’ relative bandwidth requirement clearly. Experiments on data of various site shows that all the services with similar bandwidth requirements are grouped into the same class.
