Abstract

Nanoparticles are widely used in biomedical applications and cancer treatments due to their minute scale, multi-function, and long retention time. Among the various nanoparticles, the unique optical property derived from the localized surface plasmon resonance effect of metallic nanoparticles is a primary reason that metallic nanoparticles are researched and applied. Copper and Iron nanoparticles have the potential to generate hydroxyl radicals in excess H2O2 via Fenton or Fenton-like reactions. On the other hand, gold nanoparticles equipped with a photosensitizer can transfer the energy of photons to chemical energy and enhance the production of singlet oxygen, which is suitable for cancer treatment. With the actions of these two reactive oxygen species in the tumor microenvironment, cell apoptosis can further be induced. In this work, we first synthesized dual metal nanoparticles with poly[styrene-alt-(maleic acid, sodium salt)(Cu ferrite oxide-polymer) by a simple one-step hydrothermal reduction reaction. Then, gold(III) was reduced and doped into the structure, which formed a triple metal structure, Au-doped Cu ferrite nanoparticles (Au/Cu ferrite oxide-polymer NPs). The metal ratio of the product could be controlled by manipulating the Fe/Cu ratio of reactants and the sequence of addition of reactants. The core-shell structure was verified by transmission electron microscopy. Moreover, the hydroxyl radical and singlet oxygen generation ability of Au/Cu ferrite oxide-polymer was proved. The chemodynamic and photodynamic effect was measured, and the in vitro ROS generation was observed. Furthermore, the behavior of endocytosis by cancer cells could be controlled by the magnetic field. The result indicated that Au/Cu ferrite oxide-polymer core-shell nanoreactor is a potential agent for chemodynamic/photodynamic synergetic therapy.

Abstract

ObjectiveTo investigate epidemiological characteristics and influencing factors of non-suicidal self-injury （NSSI） behaviors among middle school students in Jiangmen.MethodsA total of 1 220 middle school students in Jiangmen were selected for the study through stratified random sampling from November to December 2020. The self-compiled general demographic questionnaire， Coping Style Scale for Middle School Students， Olweus Bully/Victim Questionnaire （BVQ）， Social Support Scale for Adolescents， and Center for Epidemiologic Studies-Depression Scale （CES-D） were used for the assessment. Then binary Logistic regression analysis was performed to screen the factors influencing NSSI behaviors in students.ResultsA total of 204 middle school students （16.72%） were found to be engaged in NSSI behaviors， of whom 67 were male and 137 were female. Abstract

Mie resonances have recently attracted much attention in research on dielectric metasurfaces, owning to their enriched multipole resonances, negligible optical loss, and efficient light emitter integration. Although there is a rapid advancement in this field, some fundamental developments are still required to provide a simpler and more versatile paradigm for photoluminescence (PL) control. In this work, we proposed that an all-dielectric coherent metasurface can engineer the PL response by tuning the array size. Such PL manipulation is attributed to the collective Mie resonances that mediate the inter-unit interactions between unit elements and alter the PL intensity. Metasurfaces with different chip sizes are utilized to explore the array size effect on the collective Mie resonances, field enhancement, and Q-factor in TiO2 metasurfaces. Incorporating the all-dielectric coherent metasurface with fluorescent photon emitters, we performed the dependence of PL enhancement on array size, which achieves an enhancement factor of ∼10 at the central area of a 90 × 90 μm2 TiO2 metasurface array. These findings provide an additional degree of freedom to engineer the near-field confinement and enhancement, allowing one to manipulate incoherent photon emission and tune light–matter interaction at the nanoscale.

Abstract

In this study, a controlled atmosphere (CA) treatment was used in the submerged (SM) and solid-state (SS) fermentation of Inonotus obliquus to determine the optimal conditions. The goal was to accelerate the artificial fermentation to obtain I. obliquus as an ingredient for dietary supplements. The results indicated that when CA treatment was used, the SM and SS fermentation of I. obliquus yielded polysaccharide and betulinic acid contents 2–2.5 times higher than those obtained when such treatment was not used. The two fermentation methods yielded similar outcomes in terms of DPPH scavenging ability, bioactivity, and antioxidant activity. Although SS fermentation yielded highly bioactive fruiting bodies when the period of fermentation was extended to 60 days, the mycelia produced by SM reached a similar bioactivity quality with only 30 days of fermentation. It was indicated that SM fermentation is more economically feasible than SS fermentation in the production of I. obliquus. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
