Studies on niche and interspecific association can reveal plant interspecific relationship in the community, and provide theoretical support for promoting the transformation and development of plantation to natural forest. Based on Cunninghamia lanceolata investigation data of permanent plots of plantation in Jianfengling area of Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park, we analyzed niche and interspecific association of the top 20 woody species in the community according to their importance values. The results showed that there were 163 species of woody species belonging to 101 genera and 55 families in the C. lanceolata plantation community, with complex species composition. As a constructive species, C. lanceolata had the highest importance value and niche breadth, and thus was the absolute dominant species in the community. It had a large niche overlap and niche similarity with many other species, among which the highest was observed in Adinandra hainanensis . The average niche overlap and niche similarity of the community were 0.54 and 0.49, respectively. The change trends of those two niche indicators were basically the same, indicating that some species were similar in resource demands. The overall association of main woody species was significantly positive. The χ 2 test, association coefficient, Pearson correlation coefficient, and Spearman rank correlation coefficient suggested that the amounts of pairs with positive association were more than that with negative ones. The proportion of significant association species pairs was relatively low, indicating that the community stability was strong, species could coexist stably, and most species did not form close ties. On the whole, C. lanceolata had inhibited the regeneration of original tree species, and A. hainanensis , Garcinia oblongifolia , and Heptapleurum heptaphyllum could be used in natural transformation and restoration of C. lanceolata plantation in the Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park.

Uncontrolled bleeding is one of the most important causes threatening human health, but quick hemostasis remains a challenge. We prepared porous cryogels with poly β-cyclodextrin (Pβ-CD) and quaternary ammoniated chitosan (QCs). Pβ-CD acts as a "water-grabbing agent" to assist QCs' ability to absorb and concentrate blood rapidly. The rat-tail amputation model and liver injury model exhibited that cryogels had excellent hemostatic performance. Moreover, cryogels showed good antibacterial activity and biocompatibility. Therefore, these cryogels can be used as potential hemostatic materials.

The important role of gasotransmitters in physiology and pathophysiology suggest employing gasotransmitters for biomedical treatment. Unfortunately, the difficulty in storage and controlled delivery of these gaseous molecules hindered the development of effective gasotransmitters-based therapies. The design of a safe, facile, and wide-scale method to delivery multiple gasotransmitters is a great challenge. Herein, we use an ultrasonic assisted preparation γ-cyclodextrin metal organic framework (γ-CD-MOF) as a broad-spectrum delivery vehicle for various gasotransmitters, such as SO 2 , NO, and H 2 S. The release rate of gasotransmitters could be tuned by modifying the γ-CD-MOF with different Pluronics. The biological relevance of the exogenous gasotransmitters produced by this method is evidenced by the DNA cleavage ability and the anti-inflammatory effects. Furthermore, the γ-CD-MOF composed of food-grade γ-CD and nontoxic metal salts shows good biocompatibility and particle size (180 nm). Therefore, γ-CD-MOF is expected to be an excellent tool for the study of co-delivery and cooperative therapy of gasotransmitters.

Tear resistance is of vital importance in the fabrication and application of synthetic soft materials. However, the paradox of simultaneously improving the tearing energy and elasticity remains a huge challenge for conventional approaches. Here, inspired by the skin, we successfully constructed an extraordinary tear-resistant, superelastic elastomer by the introduction of nanosized polycyclodextrin into the elastomer network to form a slidable interpenetrate double network structure. The tearing energy of the SDEP elastomer is up to 274 KJ/m 2 , which is comparable to metals and alloys and increased more than 100 times compared with the chemically cross-linked elastomer. The fracture strain exceeded 3300%, which is hardly achieved by other materials with high tearing energy. This comprehensive improvement of antitearing and super elasticity property was achieved by (i) a slide ring effect to dissipate energy and blunt a crack tip; (ii) straightening and reorientation of the slidable double network to deflect the advancing of a crack tip; (iii) a double network sharing the load. These results provide a novel strategy to fabricate elastic, tear-resistant soft material, which may contribute to the practical application as tear-resistant flexible electronics and irregular-shaped stretchable devices.

An efficient, mild, and green method was developed for the synthesis of indeno[1,2-b]quinoxaline derivatives via o-phenylenediamine (OPD) and 2-indanone derivatives utilizing β -cyclodextrin ( β -CD) as the supramolecular catalyst. The reaction can be carried out in water and in a solid state at room temperature. β -CD can also catalyze the reaction of indan-1,2-dione with OPD with a high degree of efficiency. Compared to the reported methods, this procedure is milder, simpler, and less toxic, making it an eco-friendly alternative. In addition, the β -CD can be recovered and reused without the loss of activity.

Although tropical forest soils contributed substantially global soil methane uptake, observations on soil methane fluxes in tropical forests are still sparse, especially in Southeast Asia, leading to large uncertainty in the estimation of global soil methane uptake. Here, we conducted two-year (from Sep, 2016 to Sep, 2018) measurements of soil methane fluxes in a lowland tropical forest site in Hainan island, China. At this tropical forest site, soils were substantial methane sink, and average annual soil methane uptake was estimated at 2.00 kg CH 4 -C ha -1 yr -1 . The seasonality of soil methane uptake showed strong methane uptake in the dry season (-1.00 nmol m -2 s -1 ) and almost neutral or weak soil methane uptake in the wet season (-0.24 nmol m -2 s -1 ). The peak soil methane uptake rate was observed as -1.43 nmol m -2 s -1 in February, 2018, the driest and coolest month during the past 24 months. Soil moisture was the dominant controller of methane fluxes, and could explain 94% seasonal variation of soil methane fluxes. Soil temperature could not enhance the explanation of seasonal variation of soil methane fluxes on the top of soil moisture. A positive relationship between soil methane uptake and soil respiration was also detected, which might indicate co-variation in activities of methanotroph and roots and/or microbes for soil heterotrophic respiration. Our study highlights that tropical forests in this region acted as a methane sink.

To investigate the surgical outcomes of vesiculoscopy on refractory hematospermia and ejaculatory duct obstruction (EDO), the clinical data (including pelvic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations and the long-term effects of endoscopic treatment) from 305 patients were analyzed. Four main etiologic groups were found on MRI. We found that 62.0% (189/305) of patients showed abnormal signal intensity in MRI investigations in the seminal vesicle (SV) area. Cystic lesions were observed in 36.7% (112/305) of the patients. The third sign was dilatation or enlargement of unilateral or bilateral SV, which were observed in 32.1% (98/305) of the patients. The fourth sign was stone formation in SV or in an adjacent cyst, which was present in 8.5% (26/305) of the patients. The transurethral endoscopy or seminal vesiculoscopy and the related procedures, including fenestration in prostatic utricle (PU), irrigation, lithotripsy, stone removal, biopsy, electroexcision, fulguration, or transurethral resection/incision of the ejaculatory duct (TURED/TUIED), chosen according to the different situations of individual patients were successfully performed in 296 patients. Fenestrations in PU+ seminal vesiculoscopy were performed in 66.6% (197/296) of cases. Seminal vesiculoscopy via the pathological opening in PU was performed in 10.8% (32/296) of cases. TURED/TUIED + seminal vesiculoscopy was performed in 12.8% (38/296) of cases, and seminal vesiculoscopy by the natural orifices of the ejaculatory duct (ED) was performed in 2.4% (7/296) of cases. Electroexcision and fulguration to the abnormal blood vessels or cavernous hemangioma at posterior urethra were performed in 7.4% (22/296) of cases. Two hundred and seventy-one patients were followed up for 6-72 months. The hematospermia of all the patients disappeared within 2-6 weeks, and 93.0% of the patients showed no further hematospermia during follow-up. No obvious postoperative complications were observed. The transurethral seminal vesiculoscopy technique and related procedures are safe and effective approaches for refractory hematospermia and EDO.

A novel and diastereoselective [3 + 2] annulation of isoindigos and Morita-Baylis-Hillman carbonates has been developed for the highly efficient and one-step preparation of highly steric dispiro[cyclopent-3'-ene]bisoxindoles with two all-carbon quaternary spirocenters and three adjacent cycles in excellent yields (up to >99%) and diastereoselectivities (up to >20 : 1) under mild conditions within a few minutes. A series of dispiro[cyclopent-3'-ene]bisoxindoles were obtained and scale-up experiment was conducted with excellent results demonstrating the potential applications of this protocol.

Seminal vesiculoscopy is a new technology in uro-andrology developed in recent 10 years, which is a set of clinical operational techniques for observing the ejaculatory duct, seminal vesicle, ampullar region of the vas deferens and their surrounding structure, determining the cause, location and degree of the disease, and accomplishing such treatment procedures as irrigation, resection, incision, fulguration, hemostasis, expansion, drainage, and removal of hematocele, stones or obstruction in the distal seminal duct region. Therefore, it is not only an etiologically diagnostic technique, but also a minimally invasive surgical approach to the management of common diseases of the distal seminal duct region. Seminal vesiculoscopy has irreplaceable advantages of safety, effectiveness, minimal invasiveness, rapid recovery, and few complications.

Objective: To search for an optimal strategy for the treatment of penile and scrotal gangrene by analyzing the clinical effect of vacuum sealing drainage (VSD) as an adjuvant treatment on this disease., Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data about 4 cases of penile and scrotal gangrene treated by VSD as an adjuvant treatment from January 2015 to June 2016. The 4 patients all underwent early extensive and radical debridement of gangrene of the scrotum and penis and received intravenous injection of two broad-spectrum antibiotics, followed by VSD for wound drainage and irrigation., Results: Adequate wound drainage was achieved in all the 4 cases, the gangrene range rapidly localized and testicular necrosis avoided. The wound surface healed satisfactorily after cleansing and suturing. The patients were followed up for 3 months after discharged from the hospital and none experienced recurrence., Conclusions: VSD combined with early adequate debridement can effectively localize the gangrene range, significantly reduce the frequency of changing dressings and shorten the hospitalization time of the patient, and therefore is a very effective adjuvant treatment of penile and scrotal gangrene.

A cohort study was conducted in Hubei Province, China, following serious flooding of the Yangtze River in the autumn of 1998 to investigate the possibility of congenital transmission of Schistosoma japonicum in humans. The cohort investigated was comprised of 205 women and their 208 infants born between 1 September and 30 December 1998. Blood and fecal samples from all the women and their infants were collected and examined for S. japonicum infection. Positive specific antibody titers were found in 14 (6.8%) of the mothers, but no fecal egg excretion was observed. All infants had negative specific antibody titers and no S. japonicum eggs were found in their feces. Hence, the present study coud not confirm congenital S. japonicum transmission in humans. Further studies are highly wanted to study the impact of prenatal exposure of S. japonicum on the offspring.
