Abstract Visual Transformers(ViT) have made remarkable achievements in the field of medical image analysis. However, ViT-based methods have poor classification results on some small-scale medical image classification datasets. Meanwhile, many ViT-based models sacrifice computational cost for superior performance, which is a great challenge in practical clinical applications. In this paper, we propose an efficient medical image classification network based on an alternating mixture of CNN and Transformer tandem, which is called Eff-CTNet. Specifically, the existing ViT-based method still mainly relies on multi-head self-attention (MHSA). Among them, the attention maps of MHSA are highly similar, which leads to computational redundancy. Therefore, we propose a group cascade attention (GCA) module to split the feature maps, which are provided to different attention heads to further improves the diversity of attention and reduce the computational cost. In addition, we propose an efficient CNN (EC) module to enhance the ability of the model and extract the local detail information in medical images. Finally, we connect them and design an efficient hybrid medical image classification network, namely Eff-CTNet. Extensive experimental results show that our Eff-CTNet achieves advanced classification performance with less computational cost on three public medical image classification datasets.

Abstract Medical image segmentation is a key task in computer aided diagnosis. In recent years, convolutional neural network (CNN) has made some achievements in medical image segmentation. However, the convolution operation can only extract features in a fixed size region at a time, which leads to the loss of some key features. The recently popular Transformer has global modeling capabilities, but it does not pay enough attention to local information and cannot accurately segment the edge details of the target area. Given these issues, we proposed dynamic regional attention network (DRA-Net). Different from the above methods, it first measures the similarity of features and concentrates attention on different dynamic regions. In this way, the network can adaptively select different modeling scopes for feature extraction, reducing information loss. Then, regional feature interaction is carried out to better learn local edge details. At the same time, we also design ordered shift multilayer perceptron (MLP) blocks to enhance communication within different regions, further enhancing the network’s ability to learn local edge details. After several experiments, the results indicate that our network produces more accurate segmentation performance compared to other CNN and Transformer based networks.

Abstract Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a serious ocular complication that can pose a serious risk to a patient’s vision and overall health. Currently, the automatic grading of DR is mainly using deep learning techniques. However, the lesion information in DR images is complex, variable in shape and size, and randomly distributed in the images, which leads to some shortcomings of the current research methods, i.e., it is difficult to effectively extract the information of these various features, and it is difficult to establish the connection between the lesion information in different regions. To address these shortcomings, we design a multi-scale dynamic fusion (MSDF) module and combine it with graph convolution operations to propose a multi-scale dynamic graph convolutional network (MDGNet) in this paper. MDGNet firstly uses convolution kernels with different sizes to extract features with different shapes and sizes in the lesion regions, and then automatically learns the corresponding weights for feature fusion according to the contribution of different features to model grading. Finally, the graph convolution operation is used to link the lesion features in different regions. As a result, our proposed method can effectively combine local and global features, which is beneficial for the correct DR grading. We evaluate the effectiveness of method on two publicly available datasets, namely APTOS and DDR. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our proposed MDGNet achieves the best grading results on APTOS and DDR, and is more accurate and diverse for the extraction of lesion information.

Current mainstream computer vision algorithms focus on designing suitable network architectures and loss functions to fit training data. However, the accuracy of small object detection remains lower than for other scales, and the design of convolution operators limits the model’s performance. For UAV small object detection, standard convolutions, due to their fixed kernel size, cannot adaptively capture small object spatial information. Many convolutional variants have scattered sampling points, leading to blurred boundaries and reduced accuracy. In response, we propose HawkEye Conv (HEConv), which utilizes stable sampling and dynamic offsets with random selection. By varying the convolution kernel design, HEConv reduces the accuracy gap between small and larger objects while offering multiple versions and plug-and-play capabilities. We also develop HawkEye Spatial Pyramid Pooling and Gradual Dynamic Feature Pyramid Network modules to validate HEConv. Experiments on the RFRB agricultural and VisDrone2019 urban datasets demonstrate that, compared to YOLOv10, our model improves AP50 by 11.9% and 6.2%, APS by 11.5% and 5%, and F1-score by 5% and 7%. Importantly, it enhances small object detection without sacrificing large object accuracy, thereby reducing the multi-scale performance gap.

In the field of remote sensing, change detection is a crucial study area. Deep learning has made significant strides in the study of remote sensing image change detection during the past few years. Deep learning techniques still have some drawbacks. The global context cannot be modeled by convolutional neural networks due to the receptive field's restrictions. When extracting visual characteristics, the neural network does not concentrate more on the change region, which results in poor distinction between change and no-change regions. To address these problems, we propose networks with large receptive fields (LRFs) and difference image enhancement. First, we design the LRF strategy. It employs a long kernel shape in one spatial dimension for obtaining a long range of relations. Keeping a narrow kernel size in the other spatial dimension can extract local context information while avoiding interference from irrelevant regions. To focus on the changing features, we design the image difference enhancement (IDE) method, which decreases the distance between invariant features and enlarges the distance between changing features. In addition, we design the cross-channel interaction (CNI) strategy, which models the relationship between feature map channels and extracts feature representations through local CNI. On the CDD, WHU-CD, and LEVIR-CD public datasets, we conducted comprehensive experiments. According to the experimental results, our proposed LRDE-Net performs better than other state-of-the-art change detection techniques, and the change regions are more precisely identified. It can better cope with seasonal changes, light intensity, and other pseudochange disturbances.

The existing salient object detection in optical remote sensing images methods mostly employ the same strategy to handle features at different levels without fully considering the distinct characteristics these features possess at various levels. This results in the neglect of some high-level semantics and low-level details during the feature extraction process. Furthermore, existing methods often rely on simple convolution operations to construct modules for feature extraction and fusion. Due to the inherent locality of convolution operations, these models are limited in their performance. To address these challenges, we propose a novel progressive complementation network with semantics and details (SDPCNet) consisting of three parts: Deep semantics aggregation module (DSAM), semantics-guided feature complement module (SFCM), and detail feature enhancement module (DFEM). Specifically, the DSAM is applied on the two highest-level features, guided by the global view with global long-range dependencies and local context generated by transformer and dilated convolution. The DSAM deeply delves the semantic information in high-level features to perceive the object positions and alleviate the adverse effects of cluttered backgrounds. The SFCM operates on the intermediate two levels of features, performing global correlation modeling on the aggregated cross-level features. It enhances multiscale semantic information and edge details using multiple sets of dilated convolutions to address the challenges posed by the uncertainty in the size and number of salient objects. The DFEM acts on the lowest two levels of features, enhancing edge details in spatial dimension and emphasizing semantics in different channel dimensions. It is then fused with high-level features to augment feature diversity and reduce the impact of background noise. Extensive experiments conducted on the ORSSD, EORSSD, and ORSI-4199 datasets demonstrate that our proposed SDPCNet outperforms 23 state-of-the-art methods across eight evaluation metrics.

Existing end-to-end speech recognition methods typically employ hybrid decoders based on CTC and Transformer. However, the issue of error accumulation in these hybrid decoders hinders further improvements in accuracy. Additionally, most existing models are built upon Transformer architecture, which tends to be complex and unfriendly to small datasets. Hence, we propose a Nonlinear Regularization Decoding Method for Speech Recognition. Firstly, we introduce the nonlinear Transformer decoder, breaking away from traditional left-to-right or right-to-left decoding orders and enabling associations between any characters, mitigating the limitations of Transformer architectures on small datasets. Secondly, we propose a novel regularization attention module to optimize the attention score matrix, reducing the impact of early errors on later outputs. Finally, we introduce the tiny model to address the challenge of overly large model parameters. The experimental results indicate that our model demonstrates good performance. Compared to the baseline, our model achieves recognition improvements of 0.12%, 0.54%, 0.51%, and 1.2% on the Aishell1, Primewords, Free ST Chinese Corpus, and Common Voice 16.1 datasets of Uyghur, respectively.

Abstract Medical image segmentation provides various effective methods for accuracy and robustness of organ segmentation, lesion detection, and classification. Medical images have fixed structures, simple semantics, and diverse details, and thus fusing rich multi-scale features can augment segmentation accuracy. Given that the density of diseased tissue may be comparable to that of surrounding normal tissue, both global and local information are critical for segmentation results. Therefore, considering the importance of multi-scale, global, and local information, in this paper, we propose the dynamic hierarchical multi-scale fusion network with axial mlp (multilayer perceptron) (DHMF-MLP), which integrates the proposed hierarchical multi-scale fusion (HMSF) module. Specifically, HMSF not only reduces the loss of detail information by integrating the features of each stage of the encoder, but also has different receptive fields, thereby improving the segmentation results for small lesions and multi-lesion regions. In HMSF, we not only propose the adaptive attention mechanism (ASAM) to adaptively adjust the semantic conflicts arising during the fusion process but also introduce Axial-mlp to improve the global modeling capability of the network. Extensive experiments on public datasets confirm the excellent performance of our proposed DHMF-MLP. In particular, on the BUSI, ISIC 2018, and GlaS datasets, IoU reaches 70.65%, 83.46%, and 87.04%, respectively.

Abstract Owing to the renaissance of deep convolutional neural networks (CNN), salient object detection based on fully convolutional neural networks (FCNs) has attracted widespread attention. However, the scale variation of prominent objects, complex background features and fuzzy edges have historically been a great challenge to us. All these are closely associated with the utilization of multi‐level and multi‐scale features. At the same time, deep learning methods meet the challenges of computation and memory consumption in practice. To address these problems, the authors propose a different salient object detection method based on residuals learning and dense fusion learning framework. The proposed network is named Residual Dense Collaborative Network (RDCNet). First of all, the authors design a multi‐layer residual learning (MRL) module to extract salient object features in more detail, getting the utmost out of the object's multi‐scale and multi‐level information. Then, on the basis of the vigoroso stage‐wise convolution feature, the authors put forward the dilated convolution module (DCM) to acquire a rough global saliency map. Finally, the final accurate saliency detection map is obtained through dense cooperation learning (DCL), and the remaining learning is also used to improve gradually, so as to achieve high compactness and high‐efficiency results. Experimental results show that this method is the most advanced method for five widely used datasets (DUTS‐TE, HKU‐IS, PASCAL‐S, ECSSD, DUT‐OMRON) without any pre‐processing and post‐processing. Especially on the ECSSD dataset, the F‐measure of RDCNet achieves 95.2%.

In recent years, with the development of deep learning, research on end-to-end mispronunciation detection and diagnosis(MDD) methods has been further promoted. At present, research on end-to-end mispronunciation detection and diagnosis is gradually emerging. Most end-to-end mispronunciation detection and diagnosis methods are based on the CNN-RNN-CTC network structure. To improve the performance of end-to-end mispronunciation detection and diagnosis systems, this paper proposes an end-to-end multi-feature and multi-modal mispronunciation detection and diagnosis method based on the Squeezeformer encoder. The model uses Squeezeformer as an audio encoder, a Bi-LSTM network as a phoneme encoder, and Transformer as a decoder. The model fuses phoneme information before speech encoding and decoding, respectively, and uses a secondary decoding mechanism during the decoding process. This study further incorporated phoneme information in the encoding process so that the model could learn the intrinsic characteristics of the speaker’s pronunciation content. The decoding process uses a secondary decoding mechanism to send the sequence decoded by the model to the decoder for decoding again, which solves the problem of no a priori knowledge at the decoder end in the first decoding stage, thus improving the performance of mispronunciation detection and diagnosis. In this study, experiments were conducted on the PSC-Reading Mandarin mispronunciation detection and diagnosis dataset. Compared with the baseline model, the F1 index improved from 0.4060 to 0.7943, and the diagnostic accuracy improved from 83.93% to 88.45%.

Abstract The existing typical combined query image retrieval methods adopt Euclidean distance as sample distance measurement method, and the model trained by triple loss function blindly pursues absolute distance between samples, resulting in unsatisfactory image retrieval performance. Meanwhile, these methods singularly adopt Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to extract reference image features. However, receptive field of convolution operation has the characteristics of locality, which is easy to cause the loss of edge feature information of reference images. In view of shortcomings of these methods, the following improvements are proposed in this paper: (1) We propose Triangle Area Triple Loss Function (TATLF), which adopts Triangle Area (TA) as measurement of sample distance. TA comprehensively considers the absolute distance and included angle between samples, so that the trained model has better retrieval performance; (2) We combine CNN with Transformer to simultaneously extract local and edge features of reference images, which can effectively reduce the loss of reference images information. Specifically, CNN is adopted to extract local feature information of reference images. Transformer is used to pay attention to the edge feature information of reference images. Extensive experiments on two public datasets, Fashion200k and MIT-States, confirm the excellent performance of our proposed method.

Abstract U-Net has become baseline standard in the medical image segmentation tasks, but it has limitations in explicitly modeling long-term dependencies. Transformer has the ability to capture long-term relevance through its internal self-attention. However, Transformer is committed to modeling the correlation of all elements, but its awareness of local foreground information is not significant. Since medical images are often presented as regional blocks, local information is equally important. In this paper, we propose the GPA-TUNet by considering local and global information synthetically. Specifically, we propose a new attention mechanism to highlight local foreground information, called group parallel axial attention (GPA). Furthermore, we effectively combine GPA with Transformer in encoder part of model. It can not only highlight the foreground information of samples, but also reduce the negative influence of background information on the segmentation results. Meanwhile, we introduced the sMLP block to improve the global modeling capability of network. Sparse connectivity and weight sharing are well achieved by applying it. Extensive experiments on public datasets confirm the excellent performance of our proposed GPA-TUNet. In particular, on Synapse and ACDC datasets, mean DSC(%) reached 80.37% and 90.37% respectively, mean HD95(mm) reached 20.55 and 1.23 respectively.

Abstract Presently, research on deep learning-based change detection (CD) methods has become a hot topic. In particular, feature pyramid networks (FPNs) are widely used in CD tasks to gradually fuse semantic features. However, existing FPN-based CD methods do not correctly detect the complete change region and cannot accurately locate the boundaries of the change region. To solve these problems, a new Multi-Scale Feature Progressive Fusion Network (MFPF-Net) is proposed, which consists of three innovative modules: Layer Feature Fusion Module (LFFM), Multi-Scale Feature Aggregation Module (MSFA), and Multi-Scale Feature Distribution Module (MSFD). Specifically, we first concatenate the features of each layer extracted from the bi-temporal images with their difference maps, and the resulting change maps fuse richer semantic information while effectively representing change regions. Then, the obtained change maps of each layer are directly aggregated, which improves the effective communication and full fusion of feature maps in CD while avoiding the interference of indirect information. Finally, the aggregated feature maps are layered again by pooling and convolution operations, and then a feature fusion strategy with a pyramid structure is used, with layers fused from low to high, to obtain richer contextual information, so that each layer of the layered feature maps has original semantic information and semantic features of other layers. We conducted comprehensive experiments on three publicly available benchmark datasets, CDD, LEVIR-CD, and WHU-CD to verify the effectiveness of the method, and the experimental results show that the method in this paper outperforms other comparative methods.

Abstract Deep hashing method is widely applied in the field of image retrieval because of its advantages of low storage consumption and fast retrieval speed. There is a defect of insufficiency feature extraction when existing deep hashing method uses the convolutional neural network (CNN) to extract images semantic features. Some studies propose to add channel-based or spatial-based attention modules. However, embedding these modules into the network can increase the complexity of model and lead to over fitting in the training process. In this study, a novel deep parameter-free attention hashing (DPFAH) is proposed to solve these problems, that designs a parameter-free attention (PFA) module in ResNet18 network. PFA is a lightweight module that defines an energy function to measure the importance of each neuron and infers 3-D attention weights for feature map in a layer. A fast closed-form solution for this energy function proves that the PFA module does not add any parameters to the network. Otherwise, this paper designs a novel hashing framework that includes the hash codes learning branch and the classification branch to explore more label information. The like-binary codes are constrained by a regulation term to reduce the quantization error in the continuous relaxation. Experiments on CIFAR-10, NUS-WIDE and Imagenet-100 show that DPFAH method achieves better performance.

RGB-D salient object detection (SOD) usually describes two modes’ classification or regression problem, namely RGB and depth. The existing RGB-D SOD methods use depth hints to increase the detection performance, meanwhile they focus on the quality of little depth maps. In practical application, the interference of various problems in the acquisition process affects the depth map quality, which dramatically reduces the detection effect. In this paper, to minimize interference in depth mapping and emphasize prominent objects in RGB images, we put forward a layered interactive attention network (LIANet). The whole network model adopts the idea of double branch structure to integrate RGB information and Depth information. The network has three parts: feature coding, layered fusion mechanism, and feature decoding. In the feature coding stage, a simple attention module (SAM) is added, which defines the energy function considering the weights of channel and space dimensions. This module enables the network to learn more discriminating neurons without adding parameters. By refining these neurons, the high-level semantic features of images can be fully mined. The layered interactive fusion module (LIFM) is the most critical part of this paper. This module effectively enhances the cross-modal interaction between RGB features and depth features. The RGB-depth-RGB modulation feedback mechanism successfully eliminates interference in the depth map and accurately highlights the features of salient objects. In addition, we also used mixed losses to optimize further and train our model. Finally, a mass of experiments on six standard datasets demonstrated the importance of the method, and a timely detection speed reaches 30 fps on every dataset.

In modern remote sensing image change detection (CD), convolution neural network (CNN), especially U-shaped structure (UNet), has achieved great success due to their powerful discriminative ability. However, UNet-based CNN networks usually have limitations in modeling global dependencies due to the intrinsic locality of convolution operations. Transformer has recently emerged as an alternative architecture for dense prediction tasks due to the global self-attention mechanism. However, due to the limitation of hardware resources, pure Transformer methods generally lack the ability to capture global information at a low level. Based on these existing problems, we propose STransUNet, which combines Transformer and UNet architecture. STransUNet can not only capture shallow detail features at an early stage but also model global context in high-level feature. In addition, we design an efficient feature fusion module named cross-enhanced adaptive fusion (CEAF). Our model mainly consists of three parts: encoder, fusion module, and decoder. The decoder is a CNN-Transformer hybrid structure. CNN extracts multilevel feature information. Transformer encodes tokenized sequence to capture global context. CEAF module cross-enhances and adaptively fuses bitemporal features to enhance feature representation. In the decoding stage, we introduce a cascaded upsampling decoder (CUP). CUP progressively aggregates low-level CNN features and high-level Transformer features to full resolution. On four public CD datasets, our STransUNet achieves better CD results than six state-of-the-art algorithms.

The U-net network, with its simple and powerful encoder–decoder structure, dominates the field of medical image segmentation. However, convolution operations are limited by receptive fields. They do not have the ability to model long-range dependencies, but Transformer has the capability of long-term modeling thanks to its core self-attention mechanism, which has been widely applied in the field of medical image segmentation. However, both CNNs and Transformer can only perform correlation calculations for a single sample, ignoring the correlation between different samples. To address these problems, we propose a new Transformer, which we call the Dual-Attention Transformer (DAT). This module captures correlations within a single sample while also learning correlations between different samples. The current U-net and some of its variant models have the problem of inadequate feature fusion, so we also improve the skip connection to strengthen the association between feature maps at different scales, reduce the semantic gap between the encoder and decoder, and further improve the segmentation performance. We refer to this structure as DATUnet. We conducted extensive experiments on the Synapse and ACDC datasets to validate the superior performance of our network, and we achieved an average DSC (%) of 83.6 and 90.9 and an average HD95 of 13.99 and 1.466 for the Synapse and ACDC datasets, respectively.

Abstract In recent years, the hyperspectral classification algorithm based on deep learning has received widespread attention, but the existing network models have higher model complexity and require more time consumption. In order to further improve the accuracy of hyperspectral image classification and reduce model complexity, this paper proposes an asymmetric coordinate attention spectral-spatial feature fusion network (ACAS2F2N) to capture distinguishing hyperspectral features. Specifically, adaptive asymmetric iterative attention was proposed to obtain the discriminative spectral-spatial features. Different from the common feature fusion method, this feature fusion method can adapt to most skip connection tasks. In addition, there is no manual parameter setting. Coordinate attention is used to obtain accurate coordinate information and channel relationship. The strip pooling module was introduced to increase the network’s receptive field and avoid irrelevant information brought by conventional convolution kernels. The proposed algorithm is tested on the mainstream hyperspectral datasets (IP, KSC, and Botswana), experimental results show that the proposed ACAS2F2N can achieve state-of-the-art performance with lower time complexity.

Although convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have produced great achievements in various fields, many scholars are still exploring better network models, since CNNs have an inherent limitation—that is, the remote modeling ability of convolutional kernels is limited. On the contrary, the transformer has been applied by many scholars to the field of vision, and although it has a strong global modeling capability, its close-range modeling capability is mediocre. While the foreground information to be segmented in medical images is usually clustered in a small interval in the image, the distance between different categories of foreground information is uncertain. Therefore, in order to obtain a perfect medical segmentation prediction graph, the network should not only have a strong learning ability for local details, but also have a certain distance modeling ability. To solve these problems, a remote feature exploration (RFE) module is proposed in this paper. The most important feature of this module is that remote elements can be used to assist in the generation of local features. In addition, in order to better verify the feasibility of the innovation in this paper, a new multi-organ segmentation dataset (MOD) was manually created. While both the MOD and Synapse datasets label eight categories of organs, there are some images in the Synapse dataset that label only a few categories of organs. The proposed method achieved 79.77% and 75.12% DSC on the Synapse and MOD datasets, respectively. Meanwhile, the HD95 (mm) scores were 21.75 on Synapse and 7.43 on the MOD dataset.

Deep learning plays a highly essential role in the domain of remote sensing change detection (CD) due to its high efficiency. From some existing methods, we can observe that the fusion of information at each scale is quite vital for the accuracy of the CD results, especially for the common problems of pseudo-change and the difficult detection of change edges in the CD task. With this in mind, we propose a New Fusion network with Dual-branch Encoder and Triple-branch Decoder (DETDNet) that follows a codec structure as a whole, where the encoder adopts a siamese Res2Net-50 structure to extract the local features of the bitemporal images. As for the decoder in previous works, they usually employed a single branch, and this approach only preserved the fusion features of the encoder’s bitemporal images. Distinguished from these approaches, we adopt the triple-branch architecture in the decoder for the first time. The triple-branch structure preserves not only the dual-branch features from the encoder in the left and right branches, respectively, to learn the effective and powerful individual features of each temporal image but also the fusion features from the encoder in the middle branch. The middle branch utilizes triple-branch aggregation (TA) to realize the feature interaction of the three branches in the decoder, which enhances the integrated features and provides abundant and supplementary bitemporal feature information to improve the CD performance. The triple-branch architecture of the decoder ensures that the respective features of the bitemporal images as well as their fused features are preserved, making the feature extraction more integrated. In addition, the three branches employ a multiscale feature extraction module (MFE) per layer to extract multiscale contextual information and enhance the feature representation capability of the CD. We conducted comparison experiments on the BCDD, LEVIR-CD, and SYSU-CD datasets, which were created in New Zealand, the USA, and Hong Kong, respectively. The data were preprocessed to contain 7434, 10,192, and 20,000 image pairs, respectively. The experimental results show that DETDNet achieves F1 scores of 92.7%, 90.99%, and 81.13%, respectively, which shows better results compared to some recent works, which means that the model is more robust. In addition, the lower FP and FN indicate lower error and misdetection rates. Moreover, from the analysis of the experimental results, compared with some existing methods, the problem of pseudo-changes and the difficulty of detecting small change areas is better solved.

Target tracking has been a research hotspot in computer vision, and the correlation filtered target tracking algorithm has the benefits of low computational complexity and fast speed. Still, the tracking effect is not good when dealing with complicated circumstances. This paper proposes a multi-feature fusion target repositioning tracking algorithm for the target tracking problem in complex environments. First, a multi-feature weighted fusion algorithm is presented. Since each feature has different advantages in different environments, we combine HOG, CN, ULBP, and image edge features and use the weighted coefficient method to adaptively fuse each feature component. Second, to address the target occlusion problem, an occlusion judgment mechanism is introduced, and the target is re-located by fusion weighted filtering. Third, the scale pool is established, and the scale filter is trained by the classification search method. Finally, an adaptive model update strategy is proposed. We conduct comparison experiments with current mainstream algorithms on the publicly available datasets OTB-2015, VOT2018, UAV123, and TColor-128, respectively, and the experimental results show that our proposed algorithm is more robust in complex scenarios.

When taking pictures of electronic screens or objects with high-frequency textures, people often run across colorful rainbow patterns that are known as “moire”, seriously affecting the image quality and subsequent processing. Current methods for removing moire patterns mostly extract multiscale information by downsampling pooling layers, which may inevitably cause information loss. To address this issue, this paper proposes a demoireing method in the wavelet domain. By employing both discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and inverse discrete wavelet transform (IDWT) instead of traditional downsampling and upsampling, this method can effectively increase the network receptive field without information loss. In addition, to further reconstruct more details of moire patterns, this paper proposes an efficient attention fusion module (EAFM). With a combination of efficient channel attention, spatial attention and local residual learning, this module can self-adaptively learn various weights of feature information at different levels and inspire the network to focus more on effective information such as moire details to improve learning and demoireing performance. Extensive experiments based on public datasets have shown that this suggested method can efficiently remove moire patterns and has a good quantitative and qualitative performance.

At present, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have been widely applied to the task of skin disease image segmentation due to the fact of their powerful information discrimination abilities and have achieved good results. However, it is difficult for CNNs to capture the connection between long-range contexts when extracting deep semantic features of lesion images, and the resulting semantic gap leads to the problem of segmentation blur in skin lesion image segmentation. In order to solve the above problems, we designed a hybrid encoder network based on transformer and fully connected neural network (MLP) architecture, and we call this approach HMT-Net. In the HMT-Net network, we use the attention mechanism of the CTrans module to learn the global relevance of the feature map to improve the network’s ability to understand the overall foreground information of the lesion. On the other hand, we use the TokMLP module to effectively enhance the network’s ability to learn the boundary features of lesion images. In the TokMLP module, the tokenized MLP axial displacement operation strengthens the connection between pixels to facilitate the extraction of local feature information by our network. In order to verify the superiority of our network in segmentation tasks, we conducted extensive experiments on the proposed HMT-Net network and several newly proposed Transformer and MLP networks on three public datasets (ISIC2018, ISBI2017, and ISBI2016) and obtained the following results. Our method achieves 82.39%, 75.53%, and 83.98% on the Dice index and 89.35%, 84.93%, and 91.33% on the IOU. Compared with the latest skin disease segmentation network, FAC-Net, our method improves the Dice index by 1.99%, 1.68%, and 1.6%, respectively. In addition, the IOU indicators have increased by 0.45%, 2.36%, and 1.13%, respectively. The experimental results show that our designed HMT-Net achieves state-of-the-art performance superior to other segmentation methods.

The accurate segmentation of retinal vessels images can not only be used to evaluate and monitor various ophthalmic diseases, but also timely reflect systemic diseases such as diabetes and blood diseases. Therefore, the study on segmentation of retinal vessels images is of great significance for the diagnosis of visually threatening diseases. In recent years, especially the convolutional neural networks (CNN) based on UNet and its variant have been widely used in various medical image tasks. However, although CNN has achieved excellent performance, it cannot learn global and long-distance semantic information interaction well due to the local computing characteristics of convolution operation, which limits the development of medical image segmentation tasks. Transformer, currently popular in computer vision, has global computing features, but due to the lack of low-level details, local feature information extraction is insufficient. In this paper, we propose Patches Convolution Attention based Transformer UNet (PCAT-UNet), which is a U-shaped network based on Transformer with a Convolution branch. We use skip connection to fuse the deep and shallow features of both sides. By taking advantage of the complementary advantages of both sides, we can effectively capture the global dependence relationship and the details of the underlying feature space, thus improving the current problems of insufficient extraction of retinal micro vessels feature information and low sensitivity caused by easily predicting of pixels as background. In addition, our method enables end-to-end training and rapid inference. Finally, three publicly available retinal vessels datasets (DRIVE, STARE and CHASE_DB1) were used to evaluate PCAT-UNet. The experimental results show that the proposed PCAT-UNET method achieves good retinal vessel segmentation performance on these three datasets, and is superior to other architectures in terms of AUC, Accuracy and Sensitivity performance indicators. AUC reached 0.9872, 0.9953 and 0.9925, Accuracy reached 0.9622, 0.9796 and 0.9812, Sensitivity reached 0.8576, 0.8703 and 0.8493, respectively. In addition, PCAT-UNET also achieved good results in two other F1-Score and Specificity indicators.

Skin lesion segmentation has become an essential recent direction in machine learning for medical applications. In a deep learning segmentation network, the convolutional neural network (CNN) uses convolution to capture local information for modeling. However, it ignores the relationship between pixels and still can not meet the precise segmentation requirements of some complex low contrast datasets. Transformer performs well in modeling global feature information, but their ability to extract fine-grained local feature patterns is weak. In this work, The dual coding fusion network architecture Transformer and CNN (TC-Net), as an architecture that can more accurately combine local feature information and global feature information, can improve the segmentation performance of skin images. The results of this work demonstrate that the combination of CNN and Transformer brings very significant improvement in global segmentation performance and allows outperformance as compared to the pure single network model. The experimental results and visual analysis of these three datasets quantitatively and qualitatively illustrate the robustness of TC-Net. Compared with Swin UNet, on the ISIC2018 dataset, it has increased by 2.46% in the dice index and about 4% in the JA index. On the ISBI2017 dataset, the dice and JA indices rose by about 4%.

At present, occlusion and appearance similarity pose severe challenges to person re-identification tasks. Although many robust deep convolutional neural networks alleviate these problems, convolutional layers with limited receptive fields cannot model global semantic information well. In addition, in the person re-identification model, many metric losses ignore or destroy the intra-class structure of the sample, which makes the model difficult to be optimized. Therefore, we design a discriminative Re-identification model with global-local attention and adaptive weighted rank list loss (GLWR). Specifically, our global-local attention (GL-Attention) learns the semantic context in the channel and spatial dimensions. By learning the dependencies between features, GL-Attention integrates global semantic information into local features to extract discriminative features. Unlike rank list loss, our adaptive weighted rank list loss (WRLL) adaptively assigns weights according to the metric distance between the negative sample and the input image, which further improves the performance of the model. Experimental studies on three public datasets (Market-1501, DukeMTMC-ReID and CUHK03) indicate that the performance of our GLWR is significantly superior to many of the latest algorithms.

In the SAR change detection algorithm based on self-supervised learning, speckle noise reduces the difference image (DI) quality. Therefore, the contrast of the DI is low, and its change area is not significant. Moreover, the preclassification algorithm with the poor robustness makes the classification results of the low-quality DI inaccurate. When the wrong labels are sent into the classification network, the accuracy of the final detection results is reduced. First, to improve the quality of the initial DI, we design an adaptive gamma correction algorithm that adjusts the contrast according to the mean value of the initial DI and the variation coefficient β. The contrast of the new DI generated by this algorithm is higher. Furthermore, to suppress the noise, we adopt a new algorithm based on popular ranking to obtain the saliency map of the new DI. Combining the initial DI with this saliency map, a high-quality DI with a low noise level is obtained. After that, we introduce the structure tensor into the fuzzy local information c-means clustering algorithm (FLICM) to classify the DI more accurately. The new clustering algorithm improves the accuracy of preclassification, especially its hierarchical version. Besides, we use the structure tensor to generate the structure maps of the original images. Finally, according to the prior information obtained from the preclassification, we use a convolution wavelet neural network (CWNN) to supervise and train the structure maps of the original images. Experimental results show that the DI generated by us is closer to the ground-truth than other methods. Our preclassification algorithm performs better. Our algorithm shows higher detection accuracy for SAR images with strong noise than some advanced change detection algorithms.

The diversity of network attacks poses severe challenges to intrusion detection systems (IDSs). Traditional attack recognition methods usually adopt mining data associations to identify anomalies, which has the disadvantages of a high false alarm rate (FAR), low recognition accuracy (ACC) and poor generalization ability. To ameliorate the comprehensive capabilities of IDS and strengthen network security, we propose a novel intrusion detection method based on the adaptive synthetic sampling (ADASYN) algorithm and an improved convolutional neural network (CNN). First, we use the ADASYN method to balance the sample distribution, which can effectively prevent the model from being sensitive to large samples and ignore small samples. Second, the improved CNN is based on the split convolution module (SPC-CNN), which can increase the diversity of features and eliminate the impact of interchannel information redundancy on model training. Then, an AS-CNN model mixed with ADASYN and SPC-CNN is used for intrusion detection tasks. Finally, the standard NSL-KDD dataset is selected to test AS-CNN. The simulation illustrates that the accuracy is 4.60% and 2.79% higher than that of the traditional CNN and RNN models, and the detection rate (DR) increased by 11.34% and 10.27%, respectively. Additionally, the FAR decreased by 15.58% and 14.57%, respectively, compared with the two models.

This paper proposes an improved method for extracting NMI features. This method uses Particle Swarm Optimization in advance to optimize the two-dimensional maximum class-to-class variance (2OTSU) in advance. Afterwards, the optimized 2OUSU is introduced into the Pulse Coupled Neural Network (PCNN) to automatically obtain the number of iterations of the loop. We use an improved PCNN method to extract the NMI features of the image. For the problem of low accuracy of single feature, this paper proposes a new method of multi-feature fusion based on image retrieval. It uses HSV colour features and texture features, where, the texture feature extraction methods include: Grey Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM), Local Binary Pattern (LBP) and Improved PCNN. The experimental results show that: on the Corel-1k dataset, compared with similar algorithms, the retrieval accuracy of this method is improved by 13.6%; On the AT&T dataset, the retrieval accuracy is improved by 13.4% compared with the similar algorithm; on the FD-XJ dataset, the retrieval accuracy is improved by 17.7% compared with the similar algorithm. Therefore, the proposed algorithm has better retrieval performance and robustness compared with the existing image retrieval algorithms based on multi-feature fusion.

Doctors usually diagnose a disease by evaluating the pattern of abnormal blood vessels in the fundus. At present, the segmentation of fundus blood vessels based on deep learning has achieved great success, but it still faces the problems of low accuracy and capillary rupture. A good vessel segmentation method can guide the early diagnosis of eye diseases, so we propose a novel hybrid Transformer network (HT-Net) for fundus imaging analysis. HT-Net can improve the vessel segmentation quality by capturing detailed local information and implementing long-range information interactions, and it mainly consists of the following blocks. The feature fusion block (FFB) is embedded in the shallow levels, and FFB enriches the feature space. In addition, the feature refinement block (FRB) is added to the shallow position of the network, which solves the problem of vessel scale change by fusing multi-scale feature information to improve the accuracy of segmentation. Finally, HT-Net’s bottom-level position can capture remote dependencies by combining the Transformer and CNN. We prove the performance of HT-Net on the DRIVE, CHASE_DB1, and STARE datasets. The experiment shows that FFB and FRB can effectively improve the quality of microvessel segmentation by extracting multi-scale information. Embedding efficient self-attention mechanisms in the network can effectively improve the vessel segmentation accuracy. The HT-Net exceeds most existing methods, indicating that it can perform the task of vessel segmentation competently.

The model, Transformer, is known to rely on a self-attention mechanism to model distant dependencies, which focuses on modeling the dependencies of the global elements. However, its sensitivity to the local details of the foreground information is not significant. Local detail features help to identify the blurred boundaries in medical images more accurately. In order to make up for the defects of Transformer and capture more abundant local information, this paper proposes an attention and MLP hybrid-encoder architecture combining the Efficient Attention Module (EAM) with a Dual-channel Shift MLP module (DS-MLP), called HEA-Net. Specifically, we effectively connect the convolution block with Transformer through EAM to enhance the foreground and suppress the invalid background information in medical images. Meanwhile, DS-MLP further enhances the foreground information via channel and spatial shift operations. Extensive experiments on public datasets confirm the excellent performance of our proposed HEA-Net. In particular, on the GlaS and MoNuSeg datasets, the Dice reached 90.56% and 80.80%, respectively, and the IoU reached 83.62% and 68.26%, respectively.

Currently, deep learning is the mainstream method to solve the problem of person reidentification. With the rapid development of neural networks in recent years, a number of neural network frameworks have emerged for it, so it is becoming more important to explore a simple and efficient baseline algorithm. In fact, the performance of the same module varies greatly in different positions of the network architecture. After exploring how modules can play a maximum role in the network and studying and summarizing existing algorithms, we designed an adaptive multiple loss baseline (AML) with a simple structure but powerful functions. In this network, we use an adaptive mining sample loss (AMS) and other modules, which can mine more information from input samples at the same time. Based on triplet loss, AMS loss can optimize the distance between the input sample and its positive and negative samples and protect structural information within the sample. During the experiment, we conducted several group tests and confirmed the high performance of AML baseline via the results. AML baseline has outstanding performance in three commonly used datasets. The two indicators of AML baseline on CUHK-03 are 25.7% and 26.8% higher than BagTricks.

Violence detection aims to locate violent content in video frames. Improving the accuracy of violence detection is of great importance for security. However, the current methods do not make full use of the multi-modal vision and audio information, which affects the accuracy of violence detection. We found that the violence detection accuracy of different kinds of videos is related to the change of optical flow. With this in mind, we propose an optical flow-aware-based multi-modal fusion network (OAMFN) for violence detection. Specifically, we use three different fusion strategies to fully integrate multi-modal features. First, the main branch concatenates RGB features and audio features and the optical flow branch concatenates optical flow features with RGB features and audio features, respectively. Then, the cross-modal information fusion module integrates the features of different combinations and applies weights to them to capture cross-modal information in audio and video. After that, the channel attention module extracts valuable information by weighting the integration features. Furthermore, an optical flow-aware-based score fusion strategy is introduced to fuse features of different modalities from two branches. Compared with methods on the XD-Violence dataset, our multi-modal fusion network yields APs that are 83.09% and 1.4% higher than those of the state-of-the-art methods in offline detection, and 78.09% and 4.42% higher than those of the state-of-the-art methods in online detection.

Different feature learning strategies have enhanced performance in recent deep neural network-based salient object detection. Multi-scale strategy and residual learning strategies are two types of multi-scale learning strategies. However, there are still some problems, such as the inability to effectively utilize multi-scale feature information and the lack of fine object boundaries. We propose a feature refined network (FRNet) to overcome the problems mentioned, which includes a novel feature learning strategy that combines the multi-scale and residual learning strategies to generate the final saliency prediction. We introduce the spatial and channel ‘squeeze and excitation’ blocks (scSE) at the side outputs of the backbone. It allows the network to concentrate more on saliency regions at various scales. Then, we propose the adaptive feature fusion module (AFFM), which efficiently fuses multi-scale feature information in order to predict superior saliency maps. Finally, to supervise network learning of more information on object boundaries, we propose a hybrid loss that contains four fundamental losses and combines properties of diverse losses. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the FRNet on five datasets, with competitive results when compared to other relevant approaches.

Change detection (CD) is a particularly important task in the field of remote sensing image processing. It is of practical importance for people when making decisions about transitional situations on the Earth’s surface. The existing CD methods focus on the design of feature extraction network, ignoring the strategy fusion and attention enhancement of the extracted features, which will lead to the problems of incomplete boundary of changed area and missing detection of small targets in the final output change map. To overcome the above problems, we proposed a hierarchical attention residual nested U-Net (HARNU-Net) for remote sensing image CD. First, the backbone network is composed of a Siamese network and nested U-Net. We remold the convolution block in nested U-Net and proposed ACON-Relu residual convolution block (A-R), which reduces the missed detection rate of the backbone network in small change areas. Second, this paper proposed the adjacent feature fusion module (AFFM). Based on the adjacency fusion strategy, the module effectively integrates the details and semantic information of multi-level features, so as to realize the feature complementarity and spatial mutual enhancement between adjacent features. Finally, the hierarchical attention residual module (HARM) is proposed, which locally filters and enhances the features in a more fine-grained space to output a much better change map. Adequate experiments on three challenging benchmark public datasets, CDD, LEVIR-CD and BCDD, show that our method outperforms several other state-of-the-art methods and performs excellent in F1, IOU and visual image quality.

The cardinal symptoms of some ophthalmic diseases observed through exceptional retinal blood vessels, such as retinal vein occlusion, diabetic retinopathy, etc. The advanced deep learning models used to obtain morphological and structural information of blood vessels automatically are conducive to the early treatment and initiative prevention of ophthalmic diseases. In our work, we propose a hierarchical dilation convolutional network (HDC-Net) to extract retinal vessels in a pixel-to-pixel manner. It utilizes the hierarchical dilation convolution (HDC) module to capture the fragile retinal blood vessels usually neglected by other methods. An improved residual dual efficient channel attention (RDECA) module can infer more delicate channel information to reinforce the discriminative capability of the model. The structured Dropblock can help our HDC-Net model to solve the network overfitting effectively. From a holistic perspective, the segmentation results obtained by HDC-Net are superior to other deep learning methods on three acknowledged datasets (DRIVE, CHASE-DB1, STARE), the sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, f1-score and AUC score are {0.8252, 0.9829, 0.9692, 0.8239, 0.9871}, {0.8227, 0.9853, 0.9745, 0.8113, 0.9884}, and {0.8369, 0.9866, 0.9751, 0.8385, 0.9913}, respectively. It surpasses most other advanced retinal vessel segmentation models. Qualitative and quantitative analysis demonstrates that HDC-Net can fulfill the task of retinal vessel segmentation efficiently and accurately.

With the increase of patients with retinopathy, retinopathy recognition has become a research hotspot. In this article, we describe the etiology and symptoms of three kinds of retinal diseases, including drusen(DRUSEN), choroidal neovascularization(CNV) and diabetic macular edema(DME). In addition, we also propose a hybrid attention mechanism to classify and recognize different types of retinopathy images. In particular, the hybrid attention mechanism proposed in this paper includes parallel spatial attention mechanism and channel attention mechanism. It can extract the key features in the channel dimension and spatial dimension of retinopathy images, and reduce the negative impact of background information on classification results. The experimental results show that the hybrid attention mechanism proposed in this paper can better assist the network to focus on extracting thr fetures of the retinopathy area and enhance the adaptability to the differences of different data sets. Finally, the hybrid attention mechanism achieved 96.5% and 99.76% classification accuracy on two public OCT data sets of retinopathy, respectively.

Nowadays, visual object tracking becomes a hotspot and difficulty to achieve a real-time and accurate target tracking, but the Siamese network has solved these difficulties because of its good tracking effect and real-time performance. The location of the target in the previous frame is the template, and the similarity matching is carried out in the search area of the current frame. However, it uses Alexnet network with simple structure and fewer layers to extract features, and just uses a score map to predict the final position of the object. Aiming at these problems, in this paper, we propose the Siamese network of fused response map that use the Alexnet network with fine tuning to extract target features, and weight fusion of score maps to estimate the final position of object. Sufficient experiments on the VOT2015 and OTB100 benchmarks validate that our tracker can improve tracking performance, and perform at 60FPS.

Histopathological image retrieval is a key technology for computer-aided diagnosis. However, patients are reluctant to reveal their privacy in histopathological image retrieval. In order to further improve the effectiveness and safety of histopathological image retrieval, this paper proposes a new histopathological retrieval scheme based on asymmetric residual hash (ARH) and DNA coding techniques. In this paper, we first present a novel ARH for histopathological image retrieval to improve the effectiveness of histopathological search scheme, and then we use the 5-D hyperchaotic system to protect patient privacy. Specifically, the contribution consists of four aspects: 1) A histopathology ciphertext domain search scheme was proposed to improve the performance of computer-aided diagnosis. 2) An asymmetric approach was implemented to process histopathological query points and database points, and a novel asymmetric residual hash algorithm was first proposed to improve the accuracy and speed of histopathological image retrieval. 3) The 5-D hyperchaotic system and DNA coding technique are applied to histopathological image retrieval to protect patient privacy. 4) The loss function is constructed and optimized to learn network parameters and hash codes. The simulation experiment was performed on three datasets (Kimia Path24, Kimia Path960, and Malaria), and the results proved the effectiveness of the ARH algorithm. In addition, our proposed search method can resist common types of attacks during histopathological data transmission. Specifically, the MAP of the ARH is 0.9678 on the KIMIA Path24 with the value of hyperparameter is 125 and the length of hash code is 32. The MAP of the ARH is 0.966 on the KIMIA Path960 with the value of hyperparameter is 225 and the length of hash code is 32. The MAP of the ARH is 0.9482 on the Malaria with the value of hyperparameter is 10 and the length of hash code is 24.

Hashing algorithm has attracted great attention in recent years. In order to improve the query speed and retrieval accuracy, this paper proposes an adaptive and asymmetric residual hash (AASH) algorithm based on residual hash, integrated learning, and asymmetric pairwise loss. The specific description of the AASH algorithm is as follows: 1) the integrated learning model is proposed based on transfer learning and multi-feature fusion strategy to learn the database hash code; 2) the residual hash model is proposed based on ResNet-50 to learn the query image hash code; 3) the asymmetric pairwise loss is proposed and the parameters of the residual hash model is optimized based on the database hash code; 4) the algorithm learns the database hash code and the query image hash code in an asymmetric manner, and integrates the feature learning part and the hash-coded part in one frame. The experimental results on three different datasets fully demonstrate that the proposed AASH method has better performance than most symmetric and asymmetric deep hash algorithms. Specifically, the optimal result of the AASH algorithm is 0.971 on Cifar10 when the hyperparameter is 100 and the hash code length is 32. The optimal result of the AASH algorithm is 0.945 on ceil images when the hyperparameter is 10 and the hash code length is 24. The optimal result of the AASH algorithm is 0.945 on FD-XJ when the hyperparameter is 15 and the hash code length is 32. In addition, the algorithm verifies convergence, time loss, and effectiveness.

Computer-aided diagnosis of retinopathy is a research hotspot in the field of medical image classification. Diabetic macular edema (DME) and age-related macular degeneration (AMD) are two common ocular diseases that can result in partial or complete loss of vision. Optical coherence tomography imaging (OCT) is widely applied to the diagnosis of ocular diseases including DME and AMD. In this paper, an automatic method based on deep learning is proposed to detect AME and AMD lesions, in which two publicly available OCT datasets of retina were adopted and a network model with effective feature of reuse feature was applied to solve the problem of small datasets and enhance the adaptation to the difference of different datasets of the approach. Several network models with effective feature of reusable feature were compared and the transfer learning on networks with pre-trained models was realized. CliqueNet achieves better, classification results compared with other network models with a more than 0.98 accuracy and 0.99 of area under the curve (AUC) value finally.

Recently, the feedforward architecture of a super-resolution network based on deep learning was proposed to learn the representation of a low-resolution (LR) input and the non-linear mapping from these inputs to a high-resolution (HR) output, but this method cannot completely solve the interdependence between LR and HR images. In this paper, we retain the feedforward architecture and introduce residuals to a dual-level; therefore, we propose the dual-level recurrent residual network (DLRRN) to generate an HR image with rich details and satisfactory vision. Compared with feedforward networks that operate at a fixed spatial resolution, the dual-level recurrent residual block (DLRRB) in DLRRN utilizes both LR and HR space information. The circular signals in DLRRB enhance spatial details by the mutual guidance between two directions (LR to HR and HR to LR). Specifically, the LR information of the current layer is generated by the HR and LR information of the previous layer. Then, the HR information of the previous layer and LR information of the current layer jointly generate the HR information of the current layer, and so on. The proposed DLRRN has a strong ability for early reconstruction and can gradually restore the final high-resolution image. An extensive quantitative and qualitative evaluation of the benchmark dataset was carried out, and the experimental results proved that our network achieved good results in terms of network parameters, visual effects and objective performance metrics.

Recently, in the field of visual object tracking, visual object tracking algorithms combined with visual object segmentation have achieved impressive results while using mask to label targets in the VOT2020 dataset. Most of the trackers get the object mask by increasing the resolution through multiple upsampling modules and gradually get the mask by summing with the features in the backbone network. However, this refinement pathway does not fully consider the spatial information of the backbone features, and therefore, the segmentation results are not perfect. In this paper, the cross-stage and cross-resolution (CSCR) module is proposed for optimizing the segmentation effect. This module makes full use of the semantic information of high-level features and the spatial information of low-level features, and fuses them by skip connections to achieve a very accurate segmentation effect. Experiments were conducted on the VOT dataset, and the experimental results outperformed other excellent trackers and verified the effectiveness of the algorithm in this paper.

Recently, many super-resolution reconstruction (SR) feedforward networks based on deep learning have been proposed. These networks enable the reconstructed images to achieve convincing results. However, due to a large amount of computation and parameters, SR technology is greatly limited in devices with limited computing power. To trade-off the network performance and network parameters. In this paper, we propose the efficient image super-resolution network via Self-Calibrated Feature Fuse, named SCFFN, by constructing the self-calibrated feature fuse block (SCFFB). Specifically, to recover the high-frequency detail information of the image as much as possible, we propose SCFFB by self-transformation and self-fusion of features. In addition, to accelerate the network training while reducing the computational complexity of the network, we employ an attention mechanism to elaborate the reconstruction part of the network, called U-SCA. Compared with the existing transposed convolution, it can greatly reduce the computation burden of the network without reducing the reconstruction effect. We have conducted full quantitative and qualitative experiments on public datasets, and the experimental results show that the network achieves comparable performance to other networks, while we only need fewer parameters and computational resources.

Change detection (CD) is one of the essential tasks in remote sensing image processing and analysis. Remote sensing CD is a process of determining and evaluating changes in various surface objects over time. The impressive achievements of deep learning in image processing and computer vision provide an innovative concept for the task of CD. However, existing methods based on deep learning still have problems detecting small changed regions correctly and distinguishing the boundaries of the changed regions. To solve the above shortcomings and improve the efficiency of CD networks, inspired by the fact that an attention mechanism can refine features effectively, we propose an attention-based network for remote sensing CD, which has two important components: an asymmetric convolution block (ACB) and a combined attention mechanism. First, the proposed method extracts the features of bi-temporal images, which contain two parallel encoders with shared weights and structures. Then, the feature maps are fed into the combined attention module to reconstruct the change maps and obtain refined feature maps. The proposed CANet is evaluated on the two publicly available datasets for challenging remote sensing image CD. Extensive empirical results with four popular metrics show that the designed framework yields a robust CD detector with good generalization performance. In the CDD and LEVIR-CD datasets, the F1 values of the CANet are 3.3% and 1.3% higher than those of advanced CD methods, respectively. A quantitative analysis and qualitative comparison indicate that our method outperforms competitive baselines in terms of both effectiveness and robustness.

As a sub-direction of image retrieval, person re-identification (Re-ID) is usually used to solve the security problem of cross camera tracking and monitoring. A growing number of shopping centers have recently attempted to apply Re-ID technology. One of the development trends of related algorithms is using an attention mechanism to capture global and local features. We notice that these algorithms have apparent limitations. They only focus on the most salient features without considering certain detailed features. People’s clothes, bags and even shoes are of great help to distinguish pedestrians. We notice that global features usually cover these important local features. Therefore, we propose a dual branch network based on a multi-scale attention mechanism. This network can capture apparent global features and inconspicuous local features of pedestrian images. Specifically, we design a dual branch attention network (DBA-Net) for better performance. These two branches can optimize the extracted features of different depths at the same time. We also design an effective block (called channel, position and spatial-wise attention (CPSA)), which can capture key fine-grained information, such as bags and shoes. Furthermore, based on ID loss, we use complementary triplet loss and adaptive weighted rank list loss (WRLL) on each branch during the training process. DBA-Net can not only learn semantic context information of the channel, position, and spatial dimensions but can integrate detailed semantic information by learning the dependency relationships between features. Extensive experiments on three widely used open-source datasets proved that DBA-Net clearly yielded overall state-of-the-art performance. Particularly on the CUHK03 dataset, the mean average precision (mAP) of DBA-Net achieved 83.2%.

Recently, deep learning to hash has extensively been applied to image retrieval, due to its low storage cost and fast query speed. However, there is a defect of insufficiency and imbalance when existing hashing methods utilize the convolutional neural network (CNN) to extract image semantic features and the extracted features do not include contextual information and lack relevance among features. Furthermore, the process of the relaxation hash code can lead to an inevitable quantization error. In order to solve these problems, this paper proposes deep hash with improved dual attention for image retrieval (DHIDA), which chiefly has the following contents: (1) this paper introduces the improved dual attention mechanism (IDA) based on the ResNet18 pre-trained module to extract the feature information of the image, which consists of the position attention module and the channel attention module; (2) when calculating the spatial attention matrix and channel attention matrix, the average value and maximum value of the column of the feature map matrix are integrated in order to promote the feature representation ability and fully leverage the features of each position; and (3) to reduce quantization error, this study designs a new piecewise function to directly guide the discrete binary code. Experiments on CIFAR-10, NUS-WIDE and ImageNet-100 show that the DHIDA algorithm achieves better performance.

Considerable research and surveys indicate that skin lesions are an early symptom of skin cancer. Segmentation of skin lesions is still a hot research topic. Dermatological datasets in skin lesion segmentation tasks generated a large number of parameters when data augmented, limiting the application of smart assisted medicine in real life. Hence, this paper proposes an effective feedback attention network (FAC-Net). The network is equipped with the feedback fusion block (FFB) and the attention mechanism block (AMB), through the combination of these two modules, we can obtain richer and more specific feature mapping without data enhancement. Numerous experimental tests were given by us on public datasets (ISIC2018, ISBI2017, ISBI2016), and a good deal of metrics like the Jaccard index (JA) and Dice coefficient (DC) were used to evaluate the results of segmentation. On the ISIC2018 dataset, we obtained results for DC equal to 91.19% and JA equal to 83.99%, compared with the based network. The results of these two main metrics were improved by more than 1%. In addition, the metrics were also improved in the other two datasets. It can be demonstrated through experiments that without any enhancements of the datasets, our lightweight model can achieve better segmentation performance than most deep learning architectures.

Deep hashing is the mainstream algorithm for large-scale cross-modal retrieval due to its high retrieval speed and low storage capacity, but the problem of reconstruction of modal semantic information is still very challenging. In order to further solve the problem of unsupervised cross-modal retrieval semantic reconstruction, we propose a novel deep semantic-preserving reconstruction hashing (DSPRH). The algorithm combines spatial and channel semantic information, and mines modal semantic information based on adaptive self-encoding and joint semantic reconstruction loss. The main contributions are as follows: (1) We introduce a new spatial pooling network module based on tensor regular-polymorphic decomposition theory to generate rank-1 tensor to capture high-order context semantics, which can assist the backbone network to capture important contextual modal semantic information. (2) Based on optimization perspective, we use global covariance pooling to capture channel semantic information and accelerate network convergence. In feature reconstruction layer, we use two bottlenecks auto-encoding to achieve visual-text modal interaction. (3) In metric learning, we design a new loss function to optimize model parameters, which can preserve the correlation between image modalities and text modalities. The DSPRH algorithm is tested on MIRFlickr-25K and NUS-WIDE. The experimental results show that DSPRH has achieved better performance on retrieval tasks.
