The use of simple devices to detect underground metal targets, and seeking to improve the detection depth is a hot issue in recent years. In this paper, the finite element model is established to simulate and analyze the response characteristics of underground metal targets under the excitation of planar coils. Based on the custom designed electromagnetic instrument(EM instrument), we compared the detection effects of different coil configurations, and a new rectangular planar coil sensor with orthogonal configuration is designed for detecting underground metal targets. The sensor is capable of detecting unexploded ordnance that are 40cm long and 1.5m deep underground, and can eliminate the effects of small metal debris.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the process of rapid prototyping eddy current sensors using 3D printing technology. Making full use of the advantages of 3D printing, the authors study on a new method for fabrication of an eddy current sensor. Design/methodology/approach In this paper, the authors establish a 3D model using SolidWorks. And the eddy current sensor is printed by the fused deposition modeling method. Findings Measurement results show that the 3D printing eddy current sensor has a wider linear measurement range and better linearity than the traditional manufacturing sensor. Compared to traditional eddy current sensor fabrication method, this 3D printed sensor can be fabricated at a lower cost, and the fabrication process is more convenient and faster. Practical implications This demonstrated 3D printing process can be applied to the 3D printing of sensors of more sophisticated structures that are difficult to fabricate using conventional techniques. Originality/value In this work, the process of rapid prototyping eddy current sensors using 3D printing is presented. Sensors fabricated with the 3D printing possess lots of merits than traditional manufactures. 3D printed sensors can be customized according to the configuration of the overall system, thus reducing the demand of sensor's rigid mounting interfaces. The 3D printing also reduce design costs as well as shortens the development cycle. This allows for quick translation of a design from concept to a useful device.

In order to eliminate the sensor's dynamic error, a method that improved recursive least squares method is proposed. Gradient descent method is used to generate the initial value of the filter parameters, then the recursive least squares method (RLS) algorithm is used to optimize the parameters. The algorithm is tested and verified on the matlab platform. The time-domain response and frequency domain response of the sensor are analyzed before and after compensation. The piezoelectric sensor CY_YD-205 is compensated. Engineering experiments show that the compensation filter designed by the improved recursive least squares algorithm can improve the dynamic characteristics of the sensor system.

This paper introduces the design of a low-range overload-resistant capacitance accelerometer and accompanying experimental data. This accelerometer was designed to test a projectile's flight attitude in a medium ballistic trajectory[1]. Experimentation demonstrates that this accelerometer possesses a series of merits and can be used to test the acceleration of a projectile in a medium ballistic trajectory and establish its character.
