Background Health research teams increasingly partner with stakeholders to produce research that is relevant, accessible, and widely used. Previous work has covered stakeholder group identification. Objective We aimed to develop factors for health research teams to consider during identification and invitation of individual representatives in a multi-stakeholder research partnership, with the aim of forming equitable and informed teams. Design Consensus development. Participants We involved 16 stakeholders from the international Multi-Stakeholder Engagement (MuSE) Consortium, including patients and the public, providers, payers of health services/purchasers, policy makers, programme managers, peer review editors, and principal investigators. Approach We engaged stakeholders in factor development and as co-authors of this manuscript. Using a modified Delphi approach, we gathered stakeholder views concerning a preliminary list of 18 factors. Over two feedback rounds, using qualitative and quantitative analysis, we concentrated these into ten factors. Key Results We present seven highly desirable factors: ‘expertise or experience’, ‘ability and willingness to represent the stakeholder group’, ‘inclusivity (equity, diversity and intersectionality)’, ‘communication skills’, ‘commitment and time capacity’, ‘financial and non-financial relationships and activities, and conflict of interest’, ‘training support and funding needs’. Additionally, three factors are desirable: ‘influence’, ‘research relevant values’, ‘previous stakeholder engagement’. Conclusions We present factors for research teams to consider during identification and invitation of individual representatives in a multi-stakeholder research partnership. Policy makers and guideline developers may benefit from considering the factors in stakeholder identification and invitation. Research funders may consider stipulating consideration of the factors in funding applications. We outline how these factors can be implemented and exemplify how their use has the potential to improve the quality and relevancy of health research.

The pandemic caused by the coronavirus has brought numerous challenges for higher education, especially in health courses due to the various practical activities with patients, increasing the risk of contamination. The objective of the work was to report the training process in biosafety in dental care in the face of a pandemic scenario and risk of contamination for SARS-CoV-2 and to evaluate its impact on the resumption of clinical practice. From the biosafety protocol built collectively for clinical care, remote training was applied to all 398 students and professors of the Faculty of Dentistry using the virtual environment and several different online resources. At the end, a questionnaire was applied to all participants, and to students from the last period, also practical training before returning to service. 96% participated in the activities and reported it as important. The students from the last period felt safer to return to care and were able to notice an advance regarding the biosafety procedures to be used. The process of training and updating the biosafety protocols for responsible dental care in a pandemic phase by COVID-19 was important, since it reduced anxiety and mobilized the integration of professors and students of the Dentistry course around the search for knowledge for safe dental care. A pandemia causada pelo coronavírus trouxe inúmeros desafios para o ensino superior, principalmente nos cursos da área da saúde devido às diversas atividades práticas com os pacientes, aumentando o risco de contaminação. O objetivo do trabalho foi relatar o processo de capacitação em biossegurança em assistência odontológica frente a um cenário de pandemia e risco de contaminação por SARS-CoV-2 e avaliar seu impacto na retomada da prática clínica. A partir do protocolo de biossegurança construído coletivamente para o atendimento clínico, foi aplicado o treinamento à distância a todos os 398 alunos e professores da Faculdade de Odontologia utilizando o ambiente virtual e diversos recursos online. Ao final, foi aplicado um questionário a todos os participantes, e aos alunos do último período, também o treinamento prático antes do retorno ao serviço. 96% participaram das atividades e as relataram como importantes. Os alunos do último período sentiram-se mais seguros para retornar aos cuidados e puderam perceber um avanço quanto aos procedimentos de biossegurança a serem utilizados. O processo de treinamento e atualização dos protocolos de biossegurança para atendimento odontológico responsável em fase de pandemia pelo COVID-19 foi importante, pois reduziu a ansiedade e mobilizou a integração de professores e alunos do curso de Odontologia em torno da busca de conhecimentos para atendimento odontológico seguro. O Exame Clínico Objetivo e Estruturado (OSCE) é um exame organizado em estações que simulam a realidade clínica e os estudantes são avaliados em tarefas específicas como anamnese, exame físico, comunicação com paciente, procedimentos clínicos não invasivos, entre outras. É realizado o rodízio de alunos e um ou dois examinadores pontuam o desempenho dos mesmos em cada tarefa, com critérios e tempo previamente determinados. O objetivo desse estudo foi relatar a experiência de aplicação do OSCE na graduação e como estruturá-lo. O primeiro OSCE aplicado pelo curso de Odontologia da Universidade do Oeste Paulista (UNOESTE) para alunos de graduação foi no ano de 2016, com o objetivo de avaliação de competências dos alunos que ingressariam nas clínicas no semestre seguinte. A avaliação foi aplicada aos 70 alunos do final do terceiro ano e os conteúdos selecionados foram Dentística, Periodontia, Endodontia, Radiologia, Biossegurança, Anestesiologia e Diagnóstico Bucal. O OSCE pode ser considerado uma técnica de avaliação adequada para o alcance de competências clínicas na formação de cirurgiões-dentistas, por proporcionar ao aluno de graduação a vivência de atividades similares à realidade que enfrentará no atendimento clínico e em sua futura atuação profissional. Esse método de avaliação propicia aos estudantes a oportunidade de serem avaliados de forma mais objetiva e poder aprender com o feedback do seu desempenho no exame.

Homelessness – people living on the street, in temporary accommodation, or at risk of losing their homes – is a persistent problem across the developed world. Policies and programmes to tackle homelessness should be informed by evidence of effectiveness. This is the protocol for an evidence and gap map for studies of the effectiveness of interventions to improve the welfare of those experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness. We proposed a comprehensive search for studies, with systematic screening, coding and reporting. The available studies will be presented in an online interactive map together with a supporting report.

Root canal irrigants are used to minimize the negative effects of smear layer on endodontic sealer retention. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of agitation of 17% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) with ultrasonic, 1064-nm Nd:YAG and 980-nm diode laser on the retention of an epoxy-based sealer to the root canal walls. Forty single-rooted bovine teeth were instrumented with ProTaper rotary system and divided into four groups according to the final irrigation protocol (n = 10): (1) 17% EDTA (control); (2) 17% EDTA with 50-s ultrasonic agitation; (3) 17% EDTA with 50-s diode laser (2-W) agitation; and (4) 17% EDTA with 50-s Nd:YAG (1.5-W) laser agitation. After endodontic filling with gutta-percha F5 master cone and Sealer 26, the roots were sectioned at the cervical, middle, and apical root thirds to obtain 1.5-mm slices. Push-out tests were performed using a universal testing machine at a 1 mm/min crosshead speed. Data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA and Tukey's tests (α=0.05). Apical root thirds had significant higher retention values than cervical and middle thirds (p < 0.05). EDTA with 1064-nm Nd:YAG or 980-nm diode laser presented the highest retention values and was significantly different from EDTA with ultrasonic agitation and EDTA only (p < 0.05). Adhesive failures were predominant to EDTA only group. Mixed failures were predominant to all agitation groups. 1064-nm Nd:YAG and 980-nm diode laser EDTA agitation enhanced the retention of the epoxy-based sealer to the root canal walls compared with that due to EDTA only or EDTA with ultrasonic agitation. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a eficácia da agitação do ácido etilenodiaminotetracético a 17% (EDTA) com ultrassom, Nd:YAG 1064-nm e laser diodo 980-nm na retenção de um cimento obturador à base de resina epóxica nas paredes do canal radicular. Quarenta dentes bovinos unirradiculares foram instrumentados com o sistema rotatório ProTaper e divididos em quatro grupos de acordo com o protocolo de irrigação final (n = 10): (1) EDTA 17% (controle); (2) EDTA 17% com agitação ultrassônica por 50-s; (3) EDTA 17% com agitação com laser diodo (2-W) por 50-s; e (4) EDTA 17% com agitação com laser Nd:YAG (1,5-W) por 50-s. Após obturação endodôntica com cone principal F5 e cimento Sealer 26, as raízes foram seccionadas nos terços radiculares cervical, médio e apical para obtenção de slices de 1,5-mm. The Objective and Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) is an exam organized in stations that simulate clinical reality and students are evaluated in specific tasks such as anamnesis, physical examination, communication with patients, noninvasive clinical procedures, among others. Students rotated through stations, and one or two examiners score their performance in each task, with predetermined criteria and time. The objective of this study was to report on the experience of applying the OSCE in undergraduate and how to structure it. The first OSCE applied for Dental undergraduate students at Universidade do Oeste Paulista (UNOESTE) was in 2016, with the objective of evaluating the competencies of the students who would enter the clinics in the following semester. The evaluation was applied to 70 students at the end of the third year and the contents selected were Restorative Dentistry, Periodontics, Endodontics, Radiology, Biosafety, Anesthesiology and Oral Diagnosis. The OSCE can be considered an adequate evaluation technique for the attainment of clinical competences in the training of dental surgeons, as it provides the undergraduate student with the experience of activities similar to the reality he will face in clinical care and his future professional performance. This assessment method gives students the opportunity to be evaluated more objectively and to learn from feedback on their exam performance. When first developed in the United States, ‘Housing First’ was highly controversial given its departure from mainstream ‘linear’ service models for homeless people with complex support needs. It has nevertheless since been heralded as presenting a key ‘antidote’ to chronic homelessness and is being replicated across North America and Europe with what might be regarded as ‘evangelical’ fervour. Reception to Housing First has been noticeably more reserved in the UK to date. This paper explores the reasons underpinning many UK stakeholders’ scepticism about the model. It argues that this derives, in part, from the fact that Housing First implementation in the UK would not represent the scale of paradigm shift that it has elsewhere, thus the model is considered far less revolutionary.
