Objective The reported date in the repeat surgical intervention for adolescent lumbar disc herniation (ALDH) after percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy (PELD) was quite scarce. This study aims to introduce cases of repeat surgeries after PELD for ALDH and assess the incidence, chief causes, repeat surgery methods, and surgical outcomes of repeat surgeries after PELD for ALDH. Methods A retrospective multicenter observational study was conducted on patients undergoing repeat surgeries after PELD for ALDH at four tertiary referral hospitals from January 2014 through August 2022. The incidence of repeat surgeries, chief causes, strategies for repeat surgeries, and timing of repeat surgeries were recorded and analyzed. The clinical outcomes were evaluated by the Numeric Rating Scales (NRS) scores and the modified MacNab criteria. Statistical analyses were performed with the Wilcoxon signed‐rank test. Results A total of 23 patients who underwent repeat surgeries after PELD for ALDH were included. The chief causes were re‐herniation (homo‐lateral re‐herniation at the same level, new disc herniation of adjacent level). Abstract Background Endometriosis, characterized by the presence of active endometrial-like tissues outside the uterus, causes symptoms like dysmenorrhea and infertility due to the fibrosis of endometrial cells, which involves excessive deposition of extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins. Ubiquitination, an important post-transcriptional modification, regulates various biological processes in human diseases. However, its role in the fibrosis process in endometriosis remains unclear. Methods We employed multi-omics approaches on two cohorts of endometriosis patients with 39 samples. GO terms and KEGG pathways enrichment analyses were used to investigate the functional changes involved in endometriosis. Pearson’s correlation coefficient analysis was conducted to explore the relationship between global proteome and ubiquitylome in endometriosis. The protein expression levels of ubiquitin-, fibrosis-related proteins, and E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase TRIM33 were validated via Western blot. Transfecting human endometrial stroma cells (hESCs) with TRIM33 small interfering RNA (siRNA) in vitro to explore how TRIM33 affects fibrosis-related proteins. Results Integration of proteomics and transcriptomics showed genes with concurrent change of both mRNA and protein level which involved in ECM production in ectopic endometria. Ubiquitylomics distinguished 1647 and 1698 ubiquitinated lysine sites in the ectopic (EC) group compared to the normal (NC) and eutopic (EU) groups, respectively. Further multi-omics integration highlighted the essential role of ubiquitination in key fibrosis regulators in endometriosis. Correlation analysis between proteome and ubiquitylome showed correlation coefficients of 0.32 and 0.36 for ubiquitinated fibrosis proteins in EC/NC and EC/EU groups, respectively, indicating positive regulation of fibrosis-related protein expression by ubiquitination in ectopic lesions. We identified ubiquitination in 41 pivotal proteins within the fibrosis-related pathway of endometriosis. Finally, the elevated expression of TGFBR1/α-SMA/FAP/FN1/Collagen1 proteins in EC tissues were validated across independent samples. More importantly, we demonstrated that both the mRNA and protein levels of TRIM33 were reduced in endometriotic tissues. Knockdown of TRIM33 promoted TGFBR1/p-SMAD2/α-SMA/FN1 protein expressions in hESCs but did not significantly affect Collagen1/FAP levels, suggesting its inhibitory effect on fibrosis in vitro. Conclusions This study, employing multi-omics approaches, provides novel insights into endometriosis ubiquitination profiles and reveals aberrant expression of the E3 ubiquitin ligase TRIM33 in endometriotic tissues, emphasizing their critical involvement in fibrosis pathogenesis and potential therapeutic targets.

Abstract Objective To analyze the relationship between the thickness of the left atrial posterior wall and the low and no voltage zones in the left atrial posterior wall in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). Methods 61 patients admitted to our cardiology department for AF and radiofrequency ablation of AF from January 1, 2020 to May 30, 2022 were enrolled according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. The atrial wall thickness was measured by CT scan. Baseline data, preoperative cardiac ultrasound data, preoperative biochemical parameters, low voltage zone (fibrotic zone) and no voltage zone (scar zone) in the left atrial posterior wall area, and various parameters of posterior left atrial wall thickness were collected. Results The differences of the thickness between the upper, middle and lower mean levels of the left atrial posterior wall were statistically significant (P = 0.004). The results showed that body mass index was weakly positively correlated with the mean level of total left atrial posterior wall thickness (r = 0.426, P = 0.001) and was statistically significant. The remaining indices were positively or negatively correlated with the mean level of total left atrial posterior wall thickness, but none were statistically significant (P > 0.05). Conclusions Both left atrial posterior wall low-voltage zone and voltage-free zone were positively correlated with the mean total left atrial posterior wall thickness, and left atrial posterior wall low-voltage zone and voltage-free zone were significantly positively correlated. Body mass index was weakly positively correlated with total left atrial posterior wall thickness.

In this study, foodborne microorganisms capable of fermenting and decomposing soy proteins were screened, and molecular weight analysis was performed for the peptides produced during decomposition. Subsequently, oligopeptides were obtained via isolation and purification, and their antioxidant activities were studied. The experiment results showed that a PZ1 strain was isolated from homemade kimchi and identified as Lactococcus lactis based on morphology and 16S rDNA sequence analysis. Whole genome analysis showed that the PZ1 strain contained a variety of peptidases and protease genes that had the potential to decompose proteins. Soybean proteins were then fermented by PZ1, and the polypeptides produced during fermentation were analyzed via gel permeation chromatography, revealing that 85% of polypeptides had a molecular weight below 1000 Da. The oligopeptides with molecular weight 300～1000 Da were obtained via ultrafiltration purification, and their antioxidant activity was studied. The oligopeptides demonstrated a good scavenging effect on DPPH, hydroxyl (·OH), and superoxide anion (O2−·) radicals, at an oligopeptide concentration of 2 mg/mL, the clearance rates were 79.31%, 78.27%, and 84.62%, respectively. Therefore, L. lactis PZ1 could degrade soybean protein efficiently and could be used as a probiotic for developing functional soybean products.

Abstract A drug–drug interaction (DDI) trial of cytochrome P450 3A (CYP3A) is a necessary part of early‐phase trials of drugs mainly metabolized by this enzyme, but CYP3A DDI clinical trials do not have a standard design, especially for Chinese people. We aimed to offer specific recommendations for CYP3A DDI clinical trial design. This was an open, three‐cycle, self‐controlled study. Healthy subjects were given different administration strategies of CYP3A4 perpetrators. In each cycle, blood samples were collected before and within 24 h after the administration of midazolam, the CYP3A indicator substrate. The plasma concentrations of midazolam and 1‐hydroxymidazolam was obtained using liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry assay. For CYP3A inhibition, itraconazole exposure with a loading dose could increase the exposure of midazolam by 3.21‐fold based on maximum plasma concentration (Cmax), 8.37‐fold based on area under the curve Pharmacology Research & Perspectives for review only from zero to the time point (AUC0–t), and 11.22‐fold based on area under the curve from zero to infinity (AUC0–∞). The data were similar for itraconazole pretreatment without a loading dose. For CYP3A induction, the exposure of rifampin for 7 days decreased the plasma concentration of midazolam ~0.27‐fold based on Cmax, ~0.18‐fold based on AUC0–t, and ~0.18‐fold based on AUC0–∞. Midazolam exposure did not significantly change when the pretreatment of rifampin increased to 14 days. This study showed that itraconazole pretreatment for 3 days without a loading dose was enough for CYP3A inhibition, and pretreatment with rifampin for 7 days could induce near‐maximal CYP3A levels.

IntroductionIn the field of agriculture, automated harvesting of Camellia oleifera fruit has become an important research area. However, accurately detecting Camellia oleifera fruit in a natural environment is a challenging task. The task of accurately detecting Camellia oleifera fruit in natural environments is complex due to factors such as shadows, which can impede the performance of traditional detection techniques, highlighting the need for more robust methods.MethodsTo overcome these challenges, we propose an efficient deep learning method called YOLO-CFruit, which is specifically designed to accurately detect Camellia oleifera fruits in challenging natural environments. First, we collected images of Camellia oleifera fruits and created a dataset, and then used a data enhancement method to further enhance the diversity of the dataset. Our YOLO-CFruit model combines a CBAM module for identifying regions of interest in landscapes with Camellia oleifera fruit and a CSP module with Transformer for capturing global information. In addition, we improve YOLOCFruit by replacing the CIoU Loss with the EIoU Loss in the original YOLOv5.ResultsBy testing the training network, we find that the method performs well, achieving an average precision of 98.2%, a recall of 94.5%, an accuracy of 98%, an F1 score of 96.2, and a frame rate of 19.02 ms. The experimental results show that our method improves the average precision by 1.2% and achieves the highest accuracy and higher F1 score among all state-of-the-art networks compared to the conventional YOLOv5s network.DiscussionThe robust performance of YOLO-CFruit under different real-world conditions, including different light and shading scenarios, signifies its high reliability and lays a solid foundation for the development of automated picking devices.

Tea products, such as instant tea, have been shown to improve the aroma of meat products. However, the mechanisms by which tea products enhance meat aroma have not been adequately explained. In this study, we analyzed the impact of instant tea on the aroma of duck meat. Our results showed that treatment with instant tea led to increases in floral, baked, and grassy notes while reducing fishy and fatty notes. Several alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, indole and dihydroactinidiolide exhibited significantly increased OAVs. Conversely, certain saturated aldehydes, unsaturated aldehydes and alcohols displayed significantly decreased OAVs. The enhanced floral, baked and grassy notes were attributed to volatile compounds present in instant tea. The reduction in fishy and fatty notes was linked to polyphenols in instant tea interacting with nonanal, undecanal, (E)-2-octenal, (E)-2-nonenal, (E)-2-decenal, and 2,4-decadienal through hydrophobic interactions and electronic effects. This study enhances our understanding of how tea products improve meat aromas.

Abstract The dynamic protein corona formed on nanocarriers has been revealed to strongly affect their in vivo behaviors. Precisely manipulating the formation of protein corona on nanocarriers may provide an alternative impetus for specific drug delivery. Herein, we explore the role of glycosylated polyhydroxy polymer-modified nanovesicles (CP-LVs) with different amino/hydroxyl ratios in protein corona formation and evolution. CP-LVs with an amino/hydroxyl ratio of approximately 0.4 (CP1-LVs) are found to efficiently suppress immunoglobulin adsorption in blood and livers, resulting in prolonged circulation. Moreover, CP1-LVs adsorb abundant tumor distinctive proteins, such as CD44 and osteopontin in tumor interstitial fluids, mediating selective tumor cell internalization. The proteins corona transformation specific to the environment appears to be affected by the electrostatic interaction between CP-LVs and proteins with diverse isoelectric points. Benefiting from surface modification-mediated protein corona regulation, paclitaxel-loaded CP1-LVs demonstrate superior antitumor efficacy to PEGylated liposomes. Our work offers a perspective on rational surface-design of nanocarriers to modulate the protein corona formation for efficient drug delivery.

Abstract Background Low-diversity diets and sedentary status are risk factors for depressive symptoms, while knowledge workers were ignored before. The purpose of this current study was to examine the relationship between dietary diversity, sedentary time spent outside of work, and depressive symptoms among knowledge workers. Study design and methods This was a multicenter and cross‐sectional design that included 118,723 knowledge workers. Participants self-reported online between January 2018 and December 2020. Demographic information, the Dietary Diversity Scale, the Patient Health Questionnaire-9, dietary habits (which included eating three meals on time, midnight snacking, overeating, social engagement, coffee consumption, sugary drink consumption, smoking and alcohol use), sedentary time spent outside of work and physical activity were investigated. Results The relationships between demographic information, dietary habits and dietary diversity, and depressive symptoms were estimated. Compared with the first and second levels of dietary diversity, the third level of dietary diversity (OR: 0.91; 95% CI: 0.84–0.98) reduced the risk of depressive symptoms. Knowledge workers with different degrees of sedentary status (2–4 h (OR: 1.11; 95% CI: 1.07–1.14), 4–6 h (OR: 1.21; 95% CI: 1.17–1.26), and > 6 h (OR: 1.49; 95% CI: 1.43–1.56), presented a progressively higher risk of depressive symptoms. Conclusion High amounts of sedentary time spent after work and low levels of dietary diversity are risk factors for depressive symptoms. In addition, an irregular diet and overeating are also major risk factors for knowledge workers.

Abstract In view of the problem that the sensing characteristics of the multi-mode interferometric fiber sensors cannot be accurately analyzed, an analysis method based on the fast Fourier transform (FFT) and inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT) is proposed and demonstrated theoretically and experimentally. The suitabilities of the rectangular window function with the narrow main lobe (high spectrum resolution) and low side lobe (high main mode energy leakage) and the Hanning window function with the wide main lobe (low spectrum resolution) and high side lobe (high energy concentration) in this kind of sensor analysis are discussed, respectively. This method can not only realize the sensing performance analysis of the various modes, but also overcome the inconsistency of the different interference wavelength (dip) sensing characteristics in the conventional analysis methods. At the same time, this method is also beneficial to solve the repetitive problem of such sensors.

Fresh ginseng has a high moisture content and is easy to be deteriorated, thus an effective drying method is needed. Infrared drying is known as low energy consumption, and high heat transfer, thus the far infrared (FIR) and near infrared (NIR) drying characteristics of ginseng were investigated and compared. Influences of infrared temperature, radiation distance, and slice thickness on the drying kinetics, specific energy consumption, color change and rehydration ratio were analyzed. Results indicated that the drying rate of ginseng increased with increasing infrared temperature and decreasing radiation distance and slice thickness. The drying time under FIR was shortened by 33.3%, 25% and 20% at 40 °C, 50 °C, 60 °C compared to that under NIR, indicating that the drying efficiency of FIR was superior to that of NIR and with the decrease of temperature, this improvement became more obvious. The specific energy consumption can be reduced by up to 40% under FIR and the infrared drying was much more energy-efficient than hot air drying, with an energy reduction by up to 51.1%. Optimization of FIR drying showed that the optimal conditions were at a drying temperature of 50 °C, a slice thickness of 2 mm and a radiation distance of the 4th layer.

Seemingly barren heavy-metal-polluted vanadium (V) and titanium (Ti) magnetite mine tailings contain various functional microbes, yet it is unclear whether this includes microbial resources relevant to the biological control of plant diseases. Kiwifruit brown leaf spot disease, caused by Corynespora cassiicola, can seriously reduce kiwifruit yield. To discover effective control measures for kiwifruit leaf spot, 18 bacteria strains among 136 tailing-isolated bacteria from V-Ti magnetite mine tailings were identified as inhibiting C. cassiicola by the confrontation plate method, indicating that antagonistic bacteria surviving in the V-Ti magnetite mine tailings were present at a low level. The 18 antagonistic strains could be divided into two BOX-A1R clusters. The 13 representative strains that were selected for phylogenetic tree construction based on their 16S rRNA sequences belonged to the Bacillus genus. Five predominant strains exhibited different toxin-production times and intensities, with four of them initiating toxin production at 32 h. Among them, Bacillus sp. KT-10 displayed the highest bacteriostatic rate (100%), with a 37.5% growth inhibition rate and an antagonistic band of 3.2 cm against C. cassiicola. Bacillus sp. KT10 also showed a significant inhibitory effect against the expansion speed of kiwifruit brown spots in the pot. The relative control effect was 78.48 and 83.89% at 7 days after the first and last spraying of KT-10 dilution, respectively, confirming a good effect of KT-10 on kiwifruit brown leaf spots in the field. This study demonstrated for the first time that there are some antagonistic bacteria to pathogenic C. cassiicola in V-Ti magnetite mine tailings, and Bacillus sp. KT10 was found to have a good control effect on kiwifruit brown leaf spots in pots and fields, which provided an effective biological control measurement for kiwifruit brown leaf spots.

IntroductionOat (Avena nuda L.) and common vetch (Vicia sativa L.) intercropping in the northern regions of China has resulted in substantial production capabilities. However, there is currently a dearth of comprehensive research on whether this intercropping system can enhance productivity through increased sowing densities and underlying interspecies interaction mechanisms.MethodsA two-year field experiment was conducted in 2022 and 2023 to investigate the yield, biological efficiency, economic efficiency, and competition indicators of oats and common vetch in a high-density intercropping system. Two cropping patterns (monocropping and intercropping) and five sowing densities (D1: 4.5×106 plants ha-1; D2:5.4×106 plants ha-1; D3:6.3×106 plants ha-1; D4: 7.2×106 plants ha-1; and D5: 8.1×106 plants ha-1) were arranged in a randomized block design.ResultsAt the same sowing density, the intercropped oats exhibited greater grain yield than the monocultures. Increasing the oat sowing density significantly enhanced oat yield, with the D3 level in intercropping showing the highest yield increase, ranging from 30.98% to 31.85%, compared with the monoculture. The common vetch intercropping grain yield was maximized in the D2 treatment. The land equivalent ratio was maximized at the D2 level in both years and was significantly higher than D1, with the land equivalent coefficient, system productivity index, and percentage yield difference suggesting that increasing oat sowing densities improved the productivity of the intercropping system, with the best performance observed at the D2 level. For both years, the proportionate actual yield loss of oat was the highest at the D3 level; significantly surpassing D1, proportionate actual yield loss of common vetch and actual yield loss were the highest at level D2, both significantly surpassing D1. These indicates that appropriate densification contributes to the realization of the advantages of intercropping. With an increased oat sowing density, the economic benefits of the intercropping system were maximized at the D2 and D3 levels. Regarding intercropping competition, oat was the dominant crop under different sowing densities (Aggressivity for oat (AO)>0, relative crowding coefficient for oat (KO)>1, competition ratio for oat (CRO)>1), whereas common vetch was the inferior crop. Compared with the D1 level, the D2 level harmonized the aggressivity, competitive ratio, and relative crowding coefficients of oat and common vetch, significantly increasing crowding coefficient for common vetch (KV) and competition ratio for common vetch by 19.76% to 21.94% and 4.80% to 7.51%, respectively, while reducing KO and CRO.DiscussionThis result suggests that in the intercropping of common vetch and oat in alpine regions, rational densification can harmonize interspecific competition and thus improve the biological efficiency and economic benefits of intercropping systems.

Abstract The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) is an agreement that transformed the world economy and entered into force in January 2022 with the participation of fifteen nations. In the study, the visualisation analysis was 301 articles in Web of Science (WoS) on the subjects of “RCEP,” or “The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership,” from January 2012 to January 2023, using CiteSpace. The results of a comparative analysis of the number of journals co-citation and keyword co-occurrence indicate that further studies of “RCEP” will not be limited to the scope of traditional economics, but more and further fields are waiting for scholars to develop.

Stick–slip vibration (SV) of drill string systems is the main cause of fatigue failure of PDC bits under complex drilling conditions. Exploring its mechanism is helpful for identifying the causes of bit failure and developing preventive measures to prolong bit service life. In this study, the influence of various factors on torque characteristics is tested by drilling rock breaking with various PDC bits and the variations in torsion variables and torsion speed of drill string systems under different torque loading conditions of drill bits are ascertained. Through a finite element simulation of the drill string–bit system, the influence of the PDC bit on the torsional deformation with variable torque is determined, and the influence mechanisms of bit size, tooth structure, invasion depth, rock strength, and other factors on the SV induced by a PDC bit are established. The results show that the change in the reaction resistance moment of the formation rock leads to variation in the driving speed of the drill string system, which is one of the main reasons for the SV. Even if the torque change in the bit is minor, SV will occur if the drill string is too long.

ObjectiveEpidemiological studies suggest that consumption of fruits and vegetables (FV) is negatively associated with the incidence of certain cancers and mortality. However, a causal relationship has not been demonstrated. Thus, we investigated the effect of life-long consumption of high level of FV on median lifespan, key biological functions, and pathologies in mice fed low-fat (LF) or high-fat (HF) diets and the underlying mechanisms.MethodsUsing a 2 × 2 factorial design, 5 weeks-old male C57BL/6J mice were randomly assigned to one of four groups (n = 60/group): LF (LF-C, 10% kcal fat), HF (HF-C, 45% kcal fat) or each supplemented with 15% (w/w) of a unique FV mixture (LF + FV and HF + FV, respectively). Mice were euthanized when one group reached 50% mortality. Body weight and composition, tumor incidence, and death were monitored. Blood levels of lipids and pro-inflammatory cytokines were assessed.ResultsAfter 21 months of feeding, HF-C group reached 50% mortality, at which time mice in all groups were terminated. HF-C had higher mortality (50.0%) compared to the LF-C group (18.3%, p = 0.0008). Notably, HF-FV had lower mortality (23.3%) compared to HF-C group (p = 0.008); there was no significant difference in mortality between HF-FV and LF-C groups. Tumors were found in all groups, and were predominantly present in the liver, followed by those of lung, intestine, and seminal vesicle. Abstract Background Intervertebral disk degeneration (IDD) is a degenerative disease that underlies various musculoskeletal and spinal disorders and is positively correlated with age. tRNA-derived small RNAs (tsRNA), as a new small noncoding RNAs, its function in IDD is unclear. Herein, our goal was to find the key tsRNA that affects IDD independently of age and explore the underlying mechanisms. Methods Small RNA sequencing was performed in nucleus pulposus (NP) tissues of traumatic lumbar fracture individuals, young IDD (IDDY) patients, and old IDD (IDDO) patients. The biological functions of tsRNA-04002 in NP cells (NPCs) were investigated by qRT-PCR, western blot, and flow cytometry analysis. The molecular mechanism of tsRNA-04002 was demonstrated by luciferase assays and rescue experiments. Furthermore, the therapeutic effects of tsRNA-04002 on IDD rat model were used and evaluated in vivo. Results Compared with fresh traumatic lumbar fracture patients, a total of 695 disordered tsRNAs is obtained (398 down-regulated tsRNAs and 297 up-regulated tsRNAs). These disordered tsRNAs were mainly involved in Wnt signaling pathway and MAPK signaling pathway. tsRNA-04002 was an age-independent key target in IDD, which was both lower expressed in IDDY and IDDO groups than control group. Overexpression of tsRNA-04002 restrained inflammatory cytokines IL-1β and TNF-α expression, increased the COL2A1, and inhibited the NPCs apoptosis. Furthermore, we determined that PRKCA was the target gene of tsRNA-04002 and was negatively regulated by tsRNA-04002. The rescue experiment results suggested that the high expression of PRKCA reversed the inhibitory effect of tsRNA-04002 mimics on NPCs inflammation and apoptosis, and promotive effect of COL2A1. Moreover, tsRNA-04002 treatment dramatically ameliorated the IDD process in the puncture-induced rat model, together with the blockade of PRKCA in vivo. Conclusion Collectively, our results substantiated that tsRNA-04002 could alleviate IDD by targeting PRKCA to inhibit apoptosis of NPCs. tsRNA-04002 may be a novel therapeutic target of IDD progression.

It is desirable to recycle sewage sludge as fertilizer for agricultural fields. The application of sludge to agricultural soils is a measure that replaces chemical fertilizers and plays an important role in improving soil’s physicochemical and biological properties. However, there are concerns that the pollutants in sewage sludge will cause negative impacts on soil health. To closely monitor the soil–sludge interactions, a field study was conducted over a 20-year period in the North China Plain. In this study, the long-term effects of sewage sludge on the soil properties and soil microbial diversity were investigated. We examined the effects of various fertilization methods (control, chemical fertilizer, uncomposted sludge fertilizer, composted sludge fertilizer) on wheat production and several soil health indicators, such as the soil’s enzymatic activities, microbial biomass, microbial diversity, and crop yield. This long-term experiment supports that the composted sludge fertilizer increased crop production by 124.2% compared to the control treatment. The soil’s biological quality (e.g., the concentration of soil microbial biomass carbon) was also improved under the composted sludge fertilizer treatment. The concentrations of soil microbial biomass carbon under the uncomposted sludge fertilizer and composted sludge fertilizer treatments were 560.07 mg/kg and 551.07 mg/kg, respectively. The effect of the composted sludge fertilizer was greater than that of the uncomposted sludge fertilizer. The content of heavy metals did not exceed the national standard. The highest soil health index was 0.79 with the composted sludge fertilizer. Therefore, these results suggest that the application of composted sludge fertilizer has the potential to enhance long-term soil health and promote sustainable agricultural practices.

To accurately and non-destructively monitor the growth of spring wheat in the Hetao irrigation area, UAV remote sensing was employed during various fertility stages. Digital image indices from diverse fertilization treatments were calculated and compared with physiological indices to identify the most sensitive digital image indices corresponding to these indices. The study underscored the critical importance of the flowering stage in the growth of spring wheat, thus highlighting the necessity of focusing on this stage. This finding reiterated that the flowering stage was pivotal for spring wheat development in the Hetao Irrigation Area. Several digital image indices, such as GLA, R, G, INT, g, GRVI, MGRVI, RGBVI, EXG, and GRRI, exhibited a high frequency of significant correlations with physiological indices during the four primary reproductive stages of wheat. Consequently, these sensitive digital image indices during the flowering stage can more effectively characterize the physiological indices of spring wheat.

Abstract Objectives Many factors are related to oncology nurses’ professional values. However, the evidence on the relevance of professional values among oncology nurses in China remains sparse. This study aims to investigate the relationship between depression, self-efficacy, and professional values among Chinese oncology nurses and analyze the mediating effect of self-efficacy on this association. Methods It was a multicenter cross-sectional study designed with the STROBE guidelines. An anonymous online questionnaire recruited 2530 oncology nurses from 55 hospitals in six provinces of China between March and June 2021. Measures included self-designed sociodemographic and fully validated instruments. Pearson correlation analysis was employed to explore the associations between depression, self-efficacy, and professional values. Bootstrapping analysis by the PROCESS macro was used to examine the mediating effect of self-efficacy. Results The total scores of depression, self-efficacy, and professional values of Chinese oncology nurses were 52.75 ± 12.62, 28.39 ± 6.33, and 101.55 ± 20.43, respectively. About 55.2% of Chinese oncology nurses were depressed. Chinese oncology nurses’ professional values were generally intermediate. Their professional values were negatively related to depression and positively correlated with self-efficacy, while depression was negatively related to self-efficacy. Moreover, self-efficacy partially mediated the relationship between depression and professional values, accounting for 24.8% of the total effect. Conclusions Depression negatively predicts self-efficacy and professional values, and self-efficacy positively predicts professional values. Meanwhile, depression in Chinese oncology nurses has an indirect effect on their professional values through self-efficacy. Nursing managers and oncology nurses themselves should develop strategies aimed at relieving depression and improving self-efficacy to strengthen their positive professional values.

Abstract Background Epilepsy is a common chronic neurological disease. Its repeated seizure attacks have a great negative impact on patients’ physical and mental health. The diagnosis of epilepsy mainly depends on electroencephalogram (EEG) signals detection and analysis. There are two main EEG signals detection methods for epilepsy. One is the detection based on abnormal waveform, the other is the analysis of EEG signals based on the traditional machine learning. The feature extraction method of the traditional machine learning is difficult to capture the high-dimension information between adjacent sequences. Methods In this paper, redundant information was removed from the data by Gaussian filtering, downsampling, and short-time Fourier transform. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) was used to extract the high-dimensional features of the preprocessed data, and then Gate Recurrent Unit (GRU) was used to combine the sequence information before and after, to fully integrate the adjacent information EEG signals and improve the accuracy of the model detection. Results Four models were designed and compared. The experimental results showed that the prediction model based on deep residual network and bidirectional GRU had the best effect, and the test accuracy of the absence epilepsy test set reached 92%. Conclusions The prediction time of the network is only 10 sec when predicting four-hour EEG signals. It can be effectively used in EEG software to provide reference for doctors in EEG analysis and save doctors’ time, which has great practical value.

At present, establishing planted forests, typically composed of not more than two tree species, to avoid forest losses has received increasing attention. In addition, investigating the impact of environmental stress such as waterlogging on different planting patterns is essential for improving wetland ecosystem resilience. Knowledge about the impact of waterlogging on planted forests is crucial for developing strategies to mitigate its adverse effects. Here, we conducted experimentally a simulated pure and mixed planting system composed of two contrasting WL-tolerant species (Cleistocalyx operculatus and Syzygium cumini) to determine their ecophysiological responses based on the type of interaction. Results showed that the aboveground growth performance of S. cumini was better than that of C. operculatus under well-watered conditions regardless of the planting model, which is contrary to the belowground accumulation that was significantly improved in C. operculatus. Intra- and interspecific interactions in different planting models facilitated the growth performance of C. operculatus while provoking a significant competition in S. cumini under waterlogging. Such phenomenon was explained through the remarkable ability of C. operculatus to naturally increase its root network under stress on non-stress conditions compared with S. cumini. In this study, two main factors are proposed to play key roles in the remarkable performance of C. operculatus compared with S. cumini following the planting model under waterlogging. The high level of nitrogen and phosphor absorption through C. operculatus primary roots and the significant starch biosynthesis constituted the key element that characterized the facilitation or competition within the intra- or interspecific interactions shown in C. operculatus compared with S. cumini. Furthermore, the intraspecific competition is more pronounced in S. cumini than in C. operculatus when grown in a pure planting pattern, particularly when subjected to waterlogging. However, when the two species are planted together, this competition is alleviated, resulting in enhanced waterlogging tolerance.

The goal of digital dress body animation is to produce the most realistic dress body animation possible. Although a method based on the same topology as the body can produce realistic results, it can only be applied to garments with the same topology as the body. Although the generalization-based approach can be extended to different types of garment templates, it still produces effects far from reality. We propose GSNet, a learning-based model that generates realistic garment animations and applies to garment types that do not match the body topology. We encode garment templates and body motions into latent space and use graph convolution to transfer body motion information to garment templates to drive garment motions. Our model considers temporal dependency and provides reliable physical constraints to make the generated animations more realistic. Qualitative and quantitative experiments show that our approach achieves state-of-the-art 3D garment animation performance.

Acoustic metamaterials with both ventilation and broadband asymmetric absorption have demonstrated great scientific significance and promising applicability. In this work, we design an asymmetric absorbing cell (AAC) consisting of a pair of detuned Helmholtz resonators (HRs) connected by sound channels that allows airflow with a ventilation ratio (ventilation area divided by sound incidence area) of 40%, which can achieve near-perfect sound absorption in the operating frequency range when sound waves are incident from the left port. However, when incident on the right port, the acoustic absorption coefficient does not exceed 40% at most, so asymmetric absorption is achieved. In addition, we form parallel three-cell asymmetric absorber (PTAA) by paralleling three AACs, which have broadband asymmetric absorption compared to AAC. Furthermore, we design multi-asymmetric absorber (MAA), which can achieve broadband asymmetric absorption range from 1000 Hz to 1750 Hz, and also allow air circulation. Moreover, experimental validation is conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of fabricated MAA by 3D printing technology. Our designs open potential possibilities for developing ventilated functional devices capable of absorbing sound asymmetrically.

Clerodendrum cyrtophyllum is a common medicinal plant used by Miao people. In order to study the chemical constituents and antibacterial activities of C. cyrtophyllum in Guizhou, China. Macroporous adsorption resin, reversed phase column chromatography, silica gel column chromatography, Sephadex LH-20 column chromatagraphy, and semi-preparative high performance liquid chromatography were used to separate and purify 95% ethanol extracts from C. Cyrtophyllum. The antibacterial activities were evaluated by MTT method. The results showed 18 compounds were isolated and identified as friedelin (1), α-amyrin palmitate (2), sambuculin A (3), 22-dehydroclerosterol (4), isopetasin (5), taraxasteryl palmitate (6), stigmasterol (7), 22-dehydroclerosterol-3-O-β-D-(6′-O-margaroyl)-glucopyranoside (8), 3-O-β-D-galactopyranosyl-(24β)-ethylcholesta-5,22,25-trien (9), cistanoside D (10), tortoside F (11), balanophonin (12), luteoloside (13), acteoside (14), luteolin (15), acantrifoside E (16), trichotomside B (17), cistanoside C (18). Among of them, compounds 2, 3, 5, 6, 8-13, 16-18 were all isolated from C. cyrtophyllum for the first time. Besides, biological activity test showed Compound 13 had antibacterial activity against Streptococcus uberis. The study enriches the chemical composition of C. cyrtophyllum, and provides reference for the drug development of anti-mastitis of dairy cows.

Cancer remains the leading cause of death and an important barrier to increase life expectancy. It is desirable to develop therapeutics that can improve life quality and prolong the survival duration. Nano materials have long been considered as a potential tool for detection, diagnosis, and treatment of tumor. The application of nanotechnology for the treatment of cancer is highly based on nano drug delivery system. To meet specific clinical requirements in a superior degree, nanoparticles (NPs) with better biocompatibility, lower toxicity, and definite therapeutic effect are now being developed and designed for experiments and applications. This review presents an overview of the clinical application characteristics of NPs and summarizes the recent advances in the development of nano materials for cancer therapy.

Abstract Background More than 80% of adolescent and young adult cancer patients (AYACPs) experienced psychological distress. Physical activity and behavioral activation are effective to relieve the psychological distress in AYACPs. Methods Participants aged 15–39 years diagnosed with malignant tumors were included. A total of 143 eligible AYACPs were randomly assigned to three groups. The treatment‐as‐usual group (N = 48) received routine care, the physical activity group (N = 47) received 8 weeks of physical activity program based on intelligent wearable devices, and the behavioral activation group (N = 48) received an internet‐based modified behavioral activation program for 8 weeks. Objective outcome measures included salivary cortisol and testosterone. Results Linear mixed‐model analyses showed significant differences between treatment‐as‐usual, physical activity and behavioral activation in salivary cortisol, as well as total scores on depression and anxiety, physical activity, self‐efficacy, and social support. Significantly stronger effect sizes for physical activity group compared with behavioral activation group were found on physical activity (d = 0.53) (1 week after intervention), moderate activity (d = 0.61), and walking activity (d = 0.57) (3‐month follow‐up). Conclusions Intelligent, wearable, device‐based physical activity program is more effective in alleviating anxiety and depression, reducing saliva cortisol, and improving physical activity in AYACPs than internet‐based modified behavioral activation program. Intelligent, wearable, device‐based physical activity program can reduce the time cost of AYACPs to ensure that the intervention is carried out.

An adaptive super-twisting multivariable fast terminal sliding mode control scheme based on time delay estimation (TDE) and asymmetric error constraints are proposed to guarantee high-precision trajectory tracking control of cable-driven manipulators under complicated unknown uncertainties. The control system is constrained by joint position errors, which are asymmetric and time-varying. First, the error range of the joints is designed to ensure that the deviation of the joint position from the desired profile is not too large while ensuring the safety performance of the manipulator, and the remaining set-total system dynamics are estimated and compensated using time-delay estimation. Secondly, the design analysis of the angular false expectation using safety constraint functions allows the constraints of different cross sections to be handled in a unified system architecture; the problem of robotic arm motion trajectories with output constraints and uncertainties is addressed through rigorous analysis. The super-twisting adaptive control effectively ensures fast, accurate and robust convergence of the algorithm in satisfying all constraints in operation, and the stability of the closed-loop control system is analyzed using the Lyapunov method. Finally, the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed adaptive hyper-torsional non-singular terminal sliding mode control scheme are verified by simulations and experiments in 2-DOF.

Abstract Echocardiography is the first-line diagnostic technique for heart diseases. Although artificial intelligence techniques have made great improvements in the analysis of echocardiography, the major limitations remain to be the built neural networks are normally adapted to a few diseases and specific equipment. Here, we present an end-to-end deep learning framework named AIEchoDx that differentiates four common cardiovascular diseases (Atrial Septal Defect, Dilated Cardiomyopathy, Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, prior Myocardial Infarction) from normal subjects with performance comparable to that of consensus of three senior cardiologists in AUCs (99.50% vs 99.26%, 98.75% vs 92.75%, 99.57% vs 97.21%, 98.52% vs 84.20%, and 98.70% vs 89.41%), respectively. Meanwhile, AIEchoDx accurately recognizes critical lesion regions of interest along with each disease by visualizing the decision-making process. Furthermore, our analysis indicates that heterogeneous diseases, like dilated cardiomyopathy, could be classified into two phenogroups with distinct clinical characteristics. Finally, AIEchoDx performs efficiently as an anomaly detection tool when applying handheld device-produced videos. Together, AIEchoDx provides a potential diagnostic assistant tool in either cart-based echocardiography equipment or handheld echocardiography device for primary and point-of-care medical personnel with high diagnostic performance, and the application of lesion region identification and heterogeneous disease phenogrouping, which may broaden the application of artificial intelligence in echocardiography.

Ecological stoichiometry (ES) is an important index that reflects the balance of various elements in ecological processes. Therefore, it is of great significance to understand the soil nutrient cycle to clarify the environmental control of soil carbon (C), nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K). In this study, we analyzed the spatial distribution of soil C, N, P, and K contents and the C:N:P:K stoichiometric characteristics of 0–20 cm and 20–40 cm of farmland and grassland in four agro-pastoral areas in Inner Mongolia. Spearman correlation was used to analyze the effects of environmental factors on the soil C:N:P:K stoichiometric relationship. The results showed that there was no fixed Redfield ratio for the soil stoichiometric relationship of farmland and grassland in Inner Mongolia, and the values were 15:2:1:9 to 145:10:1:26 and 25:1:1:29 to 228:15:1:65, respectively. The stoichiometric relationships between farmland and grassland were consistent with the law of geographical and spatial heterogeneity. The ratios of C:N, C:P, C:K, N:P, and N:K showed an N distribution from west to east, while the ratio of P:K showed a V distribution. The stoichiometric relationships in grassland soil were mainly affected by soil organic carbon and total nitrogen content, while those in farmland were mainly affected by total nitrogen and total phosphorus content. The annual mean precipitation has a significant effect on stoichiometric relationships in farmland, while the annual mean temperature has a more significant effect on grassland. In conclusion, the spatial distribution difference in the soil stoichiometric relationship in the agro-pastoral ecotone of Inner Mongolia was more significant than the difference in the land use pattern. The influences of annual mean temperature and annual mean precipitation on soil ecological stoichiometry were in accordance with the geographical spatial similarity law. Compared with grassland, the stoichiometric relationship of farmland soil was greatly affected by fertilization, and farmland in this region was mainly limited by carbon and nitrogen. Thus, field management should be carried out according to local conditions. This study is of great significance as it promotes the rational utilization of land resources and the sustainable development of agriculture.

Due to the growth characteristics of the flowers and fruits of camellia in the same period, the vibrating camellia fruit picking machine needs to ensure the constant rotational speed of the vibrating hydraulic motor when the picking mechanism is operating, to achieve a constant vibration frequency, to ensure that the camellia fruit can smoothly fall off the branches through vibration. In contrast, the camellia fruit does not fall off. In this regard, this paper deduced the state space equation of the camellia fruit picking machine’s valve-controlled vibrating hydraulic motor system and designed a fuzzy wavelet neural network PID controller (FWNN PID controller) based on the traditional incremental PID control principle. Then the designed vibration picking manipulator control system was simulated under no-load, 5 s load conditions, and load start conditions with MATLAB/Simulink, a general PID controller and a fuzzy RBF neural network PID controller (FRBFNN PID controller) were used to contrast with it. The results show that the general PID controller has a slow response speed and poor robustness, while fuzzy neural network PID controllers (including FWNN PID controller and FRBFNN PID controller) have a fast response speed and strong robustness, which can well meet the requirements of a specific vibration frequency. Finally, a field test was carried out. The results show that the FWNN PID control is better than the FRBFNN PID control. Furthermore, the FWNN PID controller obviously reduced the drop rate of camellia flowers within 6% while ensuring the picking efficiency above 90%, which can well meet the needs of the camellia fruit picking operation.

It is significant to establish an accurate model to predict cadmium (Cd) criteria for safe wheat production. More importantly, for better evaluation of the risk of Cd pollution in high natural background areas, the soil extractable Cd criteria are needed. In the present study, the soil total Cd criteria were derived using the method of cultivars sensitivity distribution integrated with soil aging and bioavailability as affected by soil properties. Firstly, the dataset that meet the requirements was established. Dataset from thirty-five wheat cultivars planted in different soils published in literature of five bibliographic databases were screened using designated search strings. Then, the empirical soil-plant transfer model was used to normalize the bioaccumulation data. Afterwards, the soil Cd concentration for protecting 95 % (HC5) of the species was calculated from species sensitivity distribution curves, and the derived soil criteria were obtained from HC5 prediction models that based on pH. The process of derivation for soil EDTA-extractable Cd criteria was the same way as the soil total Cd criteria. Soil total Cd criteria ranged from 0.25 to 0.60 mg/kg and soil EDTA-extractable Cd criteria ranged from 0.12 to 0.30 mg/kg. Both the criteria of soil total Cd and soil EDTA-extractable Cd were further validated to be reliable using data from field experiments. The results suggested that the criteria of soil total Cd and soil EDTA-extractable Cd in the study can ensure the safety of Cd in wheat grains and thereby enable local agricultural practitioners to develop appropriate management for croplands.

BackgroundThis study aimed to comprehensively summarize the knowledge structure and research hotspots of ophthalmology in the field of neuroscience through bibliometric and visual analysis.MethodsWe searched the Web of Science Core Collection database for articles from 2002 to 2021 related to ophthalmology in the field of neuroscience. Using VOSviewer and CiteSpace, bibliometric analysis was conducted on the number of annual ophthalmology publications, authors, organizations, countries, journals, cited references, keywords, and burst keywords.ResultsA total of 9,179 articles were published from 34,073 authors, 4,987 organizations, and 87 countries. The cited references in these articles were published in 23,054 journals. Moreover, there were 30,864 keywords among the 9,179 articles. Notably, scholars have increasingly begun paying attention to ophthalmology in the field of neuroscience in the past 20 years. Claudio Babiloni published the most articles. The University of Washington had the greatest number of articles. The United States, Germany, and England led in the number of articles published. The Journal of Neuroscience was the most cited. The article with the highest outbreak intensity was an article published by Maurizio Corbetta in Nature Reviews Neuroscience in 2002 entitled “Control of goal-directed and stimulus-driven attention in the brain.” The most important keyword was the brain, and the top burst keyword was functional connectivity.ConclusionThis study visualized ophthalmology research in the field of neuroscience through bibliometric analysis and predicted potential research trends in future to help clinicians and basic researchers provide diversified perspectives and further carry out in-depth research on ophthalmology.

Abstract Background The available therapeutic options for large bone defects remain extremely limited, requiring new strategies to accelerate bone healing. Genetically modified bone mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) with enhanced osteogenic capacity are recognised as one of the most promising treatments for bone defects. Methods We performed differential expression analysis of miRNAs between human BMSCs (hBMSCs) and human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs) to identify osteogenic differentiation-related microRNAs (miRNAs). Furthermore, we identified shared osteogenic differentiation-related miRNAs and constructed an miRNA-transcription network. The Forkhead box protein A1 (FOXA1) knockdown strategy with a lentiviral vector was used to explore the role of FOXA1 in the osteogenic differentiation of MSCs. Cell Counting Kit-8 was used to determine the effect of the knockdown of FOXA1 on hBMSC proliferation; real-time quantitative reverse transcription PCR (qRT-PCR) and western blotting were used to investigate target genes and proteins; and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) staining and Alizarin Red staining (ARS) were used to assess ALP activity and mineral deposition, respectively. Finally, a mouse model of femoral defects was established in vivo, and histological evaluation and radiographic analysis were performed to verify the therapeutic effects of FOXA1 knockdown on bone healing. Results We identified 22 shared and differentially expressed miRNAs between hDPSC and hBMSC, 19 of which were downregulated in osteogenically induced samples. The miRNA-transcription factor interaction network showed that FOXA1 is the most significant and novel osteogenic differentiation biomarker among more than 300 transcription factors that is directly targeted by 12 miRNAs. FOXA1 knockdown significantly promoted hBMSC osteo-specific genes and increased mineral deposits in vitro. In addition, p-ERK1/2 levels were upregulated by FOXA1 silencing. Moreover, the increased osteogenic differentiation of FOXA1 knockdown hBMSCs was partially rescued by the addition of ERK1/2 signalling inhibitors. In a mouse model of femoral defects, a sheet of FOXA1-silencing BMSCs improved bone healing, as detected by microcomputed tomography and histological evaluation. Conclusion These findings collectively demonstrate that FOXA1 silencing promotes the osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs via the ERK1/2 signalling pathway, and silencing FOXA1 in vivo effectively promotes bone healing, suggesting that FOXA1 may be a novel target for bone healing.

Abstract Background Aucubin (AU), an iridoid glucoside isolated from many traditional herbal medicines, has anti-osteoporosis and anti-apoptosis bioactivities. However, the effect of AU on the treatment of bone-fracture remains unknown. In the present study, the aims were to investigate the roles and mechanisms of AU not only on osteoblastogenesis of human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (hBM-MSCs) and anti-oxidative stress injury in vitro, but also on bone-fracture regeneration by a rat tibial fracture model in vivo. Methods CCK-8 assay was used to assess the effect of AU on the viability and proliferation of hBM-MSCs. The expression of specific genes and proteins on osteogenesis, apoptosis and signaling pathways was measured by qRT-PCR, western blotting and immunofluorescence analysis. ALP staining and quantitative analysis were performed to evaluate ALP activity. ARS and quantitative analysis were performed to evaluate calcium deposition. DCFH-DA staining was used to assess the level of reactive oxygen species (ROS). A rat tibial fracture model was established to validate the therapeutic effect of AU in vivo. Micro-CT with quantitative analysis and histological evaluation were used to assess the therapeutic effect of AU locally injection at the fracture site. Results Our results revealed that AU did not affect the viability and proliferation of hBM-MSCs. Compared with control group, western blotting, PCR, ALP activity and calcium deposition proved that AU-treated groups promoted osteogenesis of hBM-MSCs. The ratio of phospho-Smad1/5/9 to total Smad also significantly increased after treatment of AU. AU-induced expression of BMP2 signaling target genes BMP2 and p-Smad1/5/9 as well as of osteogenic markers COL1A1 and RUNX2 was downregulated after treating with noggin and LDN193189. Furthermore, AU promoted the translocation of Nrf2 from cytoplasm to nucleus and the expression level of HO1 and NQO1 after oxidative damage. In a rat tibial fracture model, local injection of AU promoted bone regeneration. Conclusions Our study demonstrates the dual effects of AU in not only promoting bone-fracture healing by regulating osteogenesis of hBM-MSCs partly via canonical BMP2/Smads signaling pathway but also suppressing oxidative stress damage partly via Nrf2/HO1 signaling pathway.

Background: Increasing evidence suggests the immunomodulatory potential of genes in oncology. But the identification of immune attributes of genes is costly and time-consuming, which leads to an urgent demand to develop a prediction model. Method: We developed a deep learning-based model to predict the immune properties of genes. This model is trained in 70% of samples and evaluated in 30% of samples. Furthermore, it uncovers 60 new immune-related genes. We analyzed the expression perturbation and prognostic value of these genes in gastric cancer. Finally, we validated these genes in immunotherapy-related datasets to check the predictive potential of immunotherapeutic sensitivity. Result: This model classifies genes as immune-promoted or immune-inhibited based on the human PPI network and it achieves an accuracy of 0.68 on the test set. It uncovers 60 new immune-related genes, most of which are validated in the published literature. These genes are found to be downregulated in gastric cancer and significantly associated with the immune microenvironment in gastric cancer. Analysis of immunotherapy shows that these genes can discriminate between responder and non-responder. Conclusion: This model can facilitate the identification of immune properties of genes, decoding tumor-immune interactions for precision immunotherapy in oncology.

Abstract Alkaline water electrolysis (AWE) is among the most developed technologies for green hydrogen generation. Despite the tremendous achievements in boosting the catalytic activity of the electrode, the operating current density of modern water electrolyzers is yet much lower than the emerging approaches such as the proton‐exchange membrane water electrolysis (PEMWE). One of the dominant hindering factors is the high overpotentials induced by the gas bubbles. Herein, the bubble dynamics via creating the superaerophobic electrode assembly is optimized. The patterned Co‐Ni phosphide/spinel oxide heterostructure shows complete wetting of water droplet with fast spreading time (≈300 ms) whereas complete underwater bubble repelling with 180° contact angle is achieved. Besides, the current collector/electrode interface is also modified by coating with aerophobic hydroxide on Ti current collector. Thus, in the zero‐gap water electrolyzer test, a current density of 3.5 A cm−2 is obtained at 2.25 V and 85 °C in 6 m KOH, which is comparable with the state‐of‐the‐art PEMWE using Pt‐group metal catalyst. No major performance degradation or materials deterioration is observed after 330 h test. This approach reveals the importance of bubble management in modern AWE, offering a promising solution toward high‐rate water electrolysis.

In the process of multi-exposure image fusion (MEF), the appearance of various distortions will inevitably cause the deterioration of visual quality. It is essential to predict the visual quality of MEF images. In this work, a novel blind image quality assessment (IQA) method is proposed for MEF images considering the detail, structure, and color characteristics. Specifically, to better perceive the detail and structure distortion, based on the joint bilateral filtering, the MEF image is decomposed into two layers (i.e., the energy layer and the structure layer). Obviously, this is a symmetric process that the two decomposition results can independently and almost completely describe the information of MEF images. As the former layer contains rich intensity information and the latter captures some image structures, some energy-related and structure-related features are extracted from these two layers to perceive the detail and structure distortion phenomena. Besides, some color-related features are also obtained to present the color degradation which are combined with the above energy-related and structure-related features for quality regression. Experimental results on the public MEF image database demonstrate that the proposed method achieves higher performance than the state-of-the-art quality assessment ones.

Introduction. As the most malignant type of gliomas, glioblastoma is characterized with disappointing prognosis. Here, we aimed to investigate expression and function of NKD inhibitor of Wnt signaling pathway 1 (NKD1), an antagonist of Wnt-beta-catenin signaling pathways, in glioblastoma. Methods. The mRNA level of NKD1 was firstly retrieved from TCGA glioma dataset to evaluate its correlation with clinical characteristics and its value in prognosis prediction. Then, its protein expression level in glioblastoma was tested by immunohistochemistry staining in a retrospectively cohort collected from our medical center (n = 66). Univariate and multivariate survival analyses were conducted to assess its effect on glioma prognosis. Two glioblastoma cell lines, U87 and U251, were used to further investigate the tumor-related role of NKD1 through overexpression strategy in combination with cell proliferation assays. Immune cell enrichment in glioblastoma and its correlation with NKD1 level was finally assessed using bioinformatics analyses. Results. NKD1 shows a lower expression level in glioblastoma compared to that in the normal brain or other glioma subtypes, which is independently correlated to a worse prognosis in both the TCGA cohort and our retrospective cohort. Overexpressing NKD1 in glioblastoma cell lines can significantly attenuate cell proliferation. In addition, expression of NKD1 in glioblastoma is negatively correlated to the T cell infiltration, indicating it may have crosstalk with the tumor immune microenvironment. Conclusions. NKD1 inhibits glioblastoma progression and its downregulated expression indicates a poor prognosis.

BackgroundWhether vertebral augmentation can induce or aggravate the degeneration of adjacent intervertebral discs remains controversial. The purpose of this study is to explore the role of endplate injury in intervertebral disc degeneration after vertebral augmentation.MethodsThe imaging data of patients with single-segment osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCFs) were retrospectively analyzed. The upper and lower discs of the fractured vertebrae were defined as cranial and caudal discs, and the discs adjacent to the cranial discs were defined as control discs. According to the integrity of the cranial and caudal endplates, they were divided into an injury group and a noninjury group. At follow-up, the increase in the modified Pfirrmann score on MRI compared with the baseline grade was defined as the occurrence of a degenerative disc change (DDC). The changes in the disc height and the number of DDC cases on MRI during the follow-up in each group were analyzed.ResultsA total of 56 patients with OVCFs were included in this study, with an average follow-up time of 18.8 ± 14.1 months (3–62 months). In the cranial and caudal discs, the number of DDC cases in the endplate injury group was significantly higher than that in the noninjury group (P = 0.007 and P = 0.018). However, the number of DDC cases in the whole endplate injury group (including the cranial and caudal endplates) was significantly higher than that of the whole noninjury group (P = 0.000) and the control group (P = 0.000). The number of DDC cases in the whole noninjury group was not different from that of the control group (P = 0.192). At follow-up, the disc height of the cranial and caudal endplate injury group was significantly lower than the baseline (P = 0.000 and P = 0.001), but the disc height of the noninjury group was not significantly lower than the baseline (P = 0.074 and P = 0.082).ConclusionEndplate injury is associated with adjacent intervertebral disc degeneration in OVCF patients after vertebral augmentation. Evaluation of endplate damage before vertebral enhancement in OVCF patients has an important reference value for predicting the outcome of adjacent intervertebral discs after surgery.

Three drying methods, including far infrared drying, infrared convection drying, and ultrasonic pretreatment assisted far infrared drying, were adopted in the drying of ginger slices. The effects of main parameters (ultrasonic pretreatment power and time, far infrared temperature and power, sample thickness, infrared convection temperature) on the drying kinetics, energy consumption, and color change were investigated and discussed in detail. The results showed that the drying process of ginger slices was controlled by falling rate period. For far infrared drying, the drying rate increased with the increase of infrared temperature and decrease of sample thickness, while the infrared power had no obvious effect on the drying process. The infrared convection drying showed the fastest drying rate and the smallest color change, however, the energy consumption was the highest. For ultrasonic pretreatment assisted far infrared drying, an appropriate ultrasonic pretreatment time and power would promote the far infrared drying process and the energy consumption was only slightly increased. However, the color change was relatively large. The ultrasound technology showed its greatest potential to enhance the drying rate at the early stage of drying and increasing ultrasonic power was more effective than prolonging the pretreatment time in promoting far infrared drying.

Despite being bio-epidemiological phenomena, the causes and effects of pandemics are culturally influenced in ways that go beyond national boundaries. However, they are often studied in isolated pockets, and this fact makes it difficult to parse the unique influence of specific cultural psychologies. To help fill in this gap, the present study applies existing cultural theories via linear mixed modeling to test the influence of unique cultural factors in a multi-national sample (that moves beyond Western nations) on the effects of age, biological sex, and political beliefs on pandemic outcomes that include adverse financial impacts, adverse resource impacts, adverse psychological impacts, and the health impacts of COVID. Our study spanned 19 nations (participant N = 14,133) and involved translations into 9 languages. Linear mixed models revealed similarities across cultures, with both young persons and women reporting worse outcomes from COVID across the multi-national sample. However, these effects were generally qualified by culture-specific variance, and overall more evidence emerged for effects unique to each culture than effects similar across cultures. Follow-up analyses suggested this cultural variability was consistent with models of pre-existing inequalities and socioecological stressors exacerbating the effects of the pandemic. Collectively, this evidence highlights the importance of developing culturally flexible models for understanding the cross-cultural nature of pandemic psychology beyond typical WEIRD approaches.

Abstract The association of dietary magnesium intake with chronic constipation has not been well‐studied in general population. Therefore, the aim of this study was to examine whether increased intake of dietary magnesium is associated with the presence of chronic constipation. Data from the 2007–2010 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) were used. A total of 9,519 participants (4,814 men and 4,705 women) aged ≥20 years were included. The individual's bowel habits (chronic constipation) were evaluated using the questionnaire on bowel health and two different definitions of constipation (stool consistency and stool frequency) were used. Dietary magnesium intake was obtained from 24‐h dietary recall. Participants were categorized based on the quartiles of magnesium intake. Multivariable logistic regressions models were performed controlling for confounding factors. After multivariable adjustment, dietary magnesium intake was inversely associated with chronic constipation defined by stool frequency, and the ORs (95% CIs) across quartiles 2–4 compared with the lowest quartile were 0.71 (0.51–0.99), 0.78 (0.46–1.31), and 0.39 (0.16–0.95), respectively. Background: Adolescent and young adult cancer patients (AYACPs) experience a high incidence of psychological distress. However, the effect of psychological distress on the functional connectivity between the hemispheres in AYACPs remains unknown. Voxel-mirrored homotopy connectivity detection is an effective way to explore the effects of psychological distress on functional connectivity throughout the brain in AYACPs. Methods: Twenty-four AYACPs underwent structural magnetic resonance imaging. Results: Voxel-mirrored homotopy connectivity in the psychological distress group was significantly lower in the superior parietal gyrus, middle frontal gyrus (orbital part), superior frontal gyrus (dorsolateral), superior occipital gyrus, precuneus, lingual gyrus, calcarine fissure and surrounding cortex than in the non-psychological distress group, while in the inferior temporal gyrus and middle frontal gyrus (orbital part), voxel-mirrored homotopy connectivity was significantly higher (p < 0.05). ROC curve analysis showed that the decrease in voxel-mirrored homotopy connectivity in the following brain regions was helpful in distinguishing the psychological distress group from the non-psychological distress group: left superior frontal gyrus (dorsolateral), left calcarine fissure and surrounding cortex, right postcentral gyrus, and left precuneus. Conclusions: Activity imbalances in multiple brain regions exist in AYACPs with psychological distress. Voxel-mirrored homotopy connectivity detection is an effective way to explore the potential neural mechanisms of mental disorders in AYACPs and optimize the treatment of mental disorders.

The nutrient utilization rate of salinized farmland soils is low, the nitrogen loss is high, and soil salinity inhibits the hydrolysis of urea and the release of nutrients. In this work, the effect of microbial fertilizer on the nitrogen transformation characteristics and nitrogen morphology of salinized soils was studied using indoor constant temperature incubation tests with different nitrogen application rates—without (A0) and with microbial fertilizer application (A1 (15 t/ha)) or nitrogen application (N) of 0 kg/ha (N0), 97.5 kg/ha (N1), or 195 kg/ha (N2). The results show the following: (i) When no microbial fertilizer was applied, an increased nitrogen application promoted nitrogen fertilizer’s ammonification and nitrification reactions. Furthermore, the maximum net nitrification rate with the high nitrogen fertilizer application decreased; the apparent ammonification rate and net ammonification rate A0N2 increased by 26.1% and 24.6%, respectively, compared with A0N1 on the first day of incubation; the maximum net nitrification rate of A0N1 was more than that of A0N2; and A0N1 > A0N2 on day 3, while A0N2 > A0N1 on days 3 to 15. At 3 d, the nitrogen conversion process of A0N1 was dominated by the nitrification reaction, while the ammonification reaction dominated in A0N2. (ii) Microbial fertilizers significantly increased the ammonification and nitrification rates under the low N fertilizer application. The intensity of ammonification and nitrification under the low N fertilizer application was greater than that under the high N fertilizer application. The apparent ammonification rate and net ammonification rate of A1N1 increased by 60.9% and 52.6% compared with A0N1 and 21.9% and 21.7% compared with A1N2 on the first day of incubation, and the peak net nitrification rates of A1N1 and A1N2 (28.19 mg/kg d and 11.02 mg/kg d, respectively) and net nitrification rates of A1N1 and A1N2 were 113.7% higher than those of A0N1. The net nitrification rates of A1N1 and A1N2 were 82.3% and 58.6% lower than the maximum net nitrification rates on the 15th day of incubation, respectively. (iii) In saline soils, low-nitrogen microbial fertilizers led to more ammonium nitrogen in the soil, and the high-nitrogen fertilizer application resulted in higher nitrate nitrogen in the soil, leading to nitrogen leaching. Therefore, when applying microbial fertilizer, choosing the most suitable period for reduced chasing is important for the efficient use of fertilizers, the alternative role of biofertilizers, and the study of environmental pollution.

Trunk recognition is a critical technology for Camellia oleifera fruit harvesting robots, as it enables accurate and efficient detection and localization of vibration or picking points in unstructured natural environments. Traditional trunk detection methods heavily rely on the visual judgment of robot operators, resulting in significant errors and incorrect vibration point identification. In this paper, we propose a new method based on an improved YOLOv7 network for Camellia oleifera trunk detection. Firstly, we integrate an attention mechanism into the backbone and head layers of YOLOv7, enhancing feature extraction for trunks and enabling the network to focus on relevant target objects. Secondly, we design a weighted confidence loss function based on Facol-EIoU to replace the original loss function in the improved YOLOv7 network. This modification aims to enhance the detection performance specifically for Camellia oleifera trunks. Finally, trunk detection experiments and comparative analyses were conducted with YOLOv3, YOLOv4, YOLOv5, YOLOv7 and improved YOLOv7 models. The experimental results demonstrate that our proposed method achieves an mAP of 89.2%, Recall Rate of 0.94, F1 score of 0.87 and Average Detection Speed of 0.018s/pic that surpass those of YOLOv3, YOLOv4, YOLOv5 and YOLOv7 models. The improved YOLOv7 model exhibits excellent trunk detection accuracy, enabling Camellia oleifera fruit harvesting robots to effectively detect trunks in unstructured orchards.

To ensure long-term food production in a changing world, it is critical to identify field management practices that increase crop yields and maintain soil health. Additionally, sustainable agriculture needs to provide experimental evidence to support the use of traditional agricultural practices. In this study, a 20-year investigation of the effects of different combinations of fertilizer types (control, chemical fertilizer, organic fertilizer, and bio-fertilizer) and fertilization amount (conventional dosages and high dosages) on wheat yield and soil health, including soil enzyme activity and microbial biomass, soil microbial diversity, and crop yield. Our long-term study indicates that the use of high dosages of bio-fertilizer can increase the fertilizer yield contribution rate by a minimum of 76.7% compared to other management combinations. Furthermore, this practice can improve soil biological quality, including the concentration of soil microbial biomass carbon, promote bacterial biodiversity, and enhance the soil health index. The effect of high dosages fertilizer was greater than that of conventional dosages fertilizer. The highest soil health index was 0.88 in high dosage bio-fertilizer, and the lowest was 0.12 in chemical fertilizer. In summary, these results suggested that the use of bio-fertilizer can help maintain soil health and crop productivity in the long term.

Pulmonary hypertension is a progressive fatal disease that currently has no specific therapeutic approaches. In this study, dsRNA‐dependent protein kinase (PKR) was considered a candidate molecule in pulmonary hypertension. We demonstrated that PKR is activated in the endothelium of experimental pulmonary hypertension models. Deletion of PKR or treatment with the PKR activation inhibitor C16 inhibited the development of pulmonary hypertension. To explore the mechanism of PKR in pulmonary hypertension, we detected its downstream signaling and found that PKR knockout represses apoptosis‐associated speck‐like protein containing CARD (ASC) activation to inhibit high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) and interleukin‐1 beta release. To further explore whether ASC mediates the pro‐pulmonary hypertension role of PKR, we used ASC deletion mice and found that ASC deletion inhibits the development of pulmonary hypertension and the release of HMGB1 and interleukin‐1 beta. Furthermore, we co‐cultured pulmonary arterial endothelial cells (PAECs) and pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cells (PASMCs) and found that endothelial PKR promotes PASMCs proliferation through the release of HMGB1 and interleukin‐1 beta. In conclusion, these data indicate that endothelial PKR promotes the excessive proliferation of PASMCs by inducing ASC activation to release HMGB1 and interleukin‐1 beta, which lead to the development of pulmonary hypertension. Our study will provide a novel insight that PKR is a potential target in the future treatment of pulmonary hypertension.
