In hospitalized COVID-19 patients, disease progression leading to acute kidney injury (AKI) may be driven by immune dysregulation. We explored the role of urinary cytokines and their relationship with kidney stress biomarkers in COVID-19 patients before and after the development of AKI. Of 51 patients, 54.9% developed AKI. The principal component analysis indicated that in subclinical AKI, epidermal growth factor (EGF) and interferon (IFN)-α were associated with a lower risk of AKI, while interleukin-12 (IL-12) and macrophage inflammatory protein (MIP)-1β were associated with a higher risk of AKI. After the manifestation of AKI, EGF and IFN-α remained associated with a lower risk of AKI, while IL-1 receptor (IL-1R), granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF), interferon-gamma-inducible protein 10 (IP-10) and IL-5 were associated with a higher risk of AKI. EGF had an inverse correlation with kidney stress biomarkers. Subclinical AKI was characterized by a significant up-regulation of kidney stress biomarkers and proinflammatory cytokines. The lack of EGF regenerative effects and IFN-α antiviral activity seemed crucial for renal disease progression. AKI involved a proinflammatory urinary cytokine storm.

La capacidad de las leguminosas como abonos verdes es reconocida y sigue siendo objeto de numerosos estudios. Por esta razón, el primer semestre de 2017 se evaluó el efecto de Canavalia ensiformis y Vigna radiata como abonos verdes, sobre la dinámica microbiana del suelo, sin historial de uso por siete años, de la finca El Plan de Burras, en El Espino, Boyacá, Colombia. Se evaluó el estado actual a través de los parámetros fisicoquímicos pH (6,2), capacidad intercambio catiónico (21,97 mEq/100 g), materia orgánica (3,06 %), carbono total (1,77 %) y nitrógeno total (0,15 %). Los suelos fueron sometidos a tres tratamientos (T), por triplicado: T1, con Canavalia ensiformis + suelo; T2, con Vigna radiata + suelo; y T3, con suelo de control. Los parámetros de respuesta fueron la tasa de mineralización (mg de C-CO2) y cuantificación de células viables en unidades formadoras de colonias por gramo de suelo (UFC/g), para seis tiempos en 42 días. Se encontró que Vigna radiata obtuvo mayor tasa de mineralización (1,68 mg de C-CO2) y mayor dinámica poblacional (2,73×1013 UFC/g de suelo), comparada con Canavalia ensiformis. Se obtuvieron nódulos y, al realizar la siembra en el agar LMA-RC, se confirmó la presencia de Rhizobium spp. en Vigna radiata. Se determinó la correlación entre la dinámica poblacional microbiana y la tasa de mineralización en los tres tratamientos, que resultó mayor para Canavalia ensiformis (0,98). El estudio permitió concluir que las leguminosas evaluadas son viables en la zona analizada.

Este artículo comprende la finalidad de analizar la aplicabilidad del teletrabajo y trabajo remoto como práctica de seguridad para enfrentar la crisis provocada por el Covid-19. Este artículo proporciona resultados tanto teóricos como prácticos. Desde un punto de vista teórico, el enfoque de Baruch y Nicholson se amplía con factores tecnológicos que explican la concepción del teletrabajo. Basándose en una perspectiva funcional, se ha obtenido una base de datos de empresas que han incluido el teletrabajo como medida para enfrentar el covid-19 en un contexto de crisis. En concreto, la crisis del Covid-19 muestra cómo las empresas han implementado el teletrabajo para dar continuidad a la actividad económica garantizando la seguridad de sus empleados. Por tanto, los factores de seguridad son relevantes en el estudio del teletrabajo y deberían tomarse en cuenta para futuras investigaciones

International audience; Cosmic explosions have emerged as a major field of astrophysics over the last years with our increasing capability to monitor large parts of the sky in different wavelengths and with different messengers (photons, neutrinos, and gravitational waves). In this context, gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) play a very specific role, as they are the most energetic explosions in the Universe. The forthcoming Sino-French SVOM mission will make a major contribution to this scientific domain by improving our understanding of the GRB phenomenon and by allowing their use to understand the infancy of the Universe. In order to fulfill all of its scientific objectives, SVOM will be complemented by a fast robotic 1.3 m telescope, COLIBRI, with multiband photometric capabilities (from visible to infrared). This telescope is being jointly developed by France and Mexico. The telescope and one of its instruments are currently being extensively tested at OHP in France and will be installed in Mexico in spring 2023.

In this work, we present the general procedure for the robotic observations of the Transneptunian Automated Occultation Survey (TAOS II). The project aims to detect small TNOs (Transneptunian Objects) by serendipitous stellar occultations. To do so TAOS II will operate three 1.3 m telescopes equipped with CMOS cameras which are able to read about 10,000 stars in multiple subapertures at a 20 Hz cadence. At such rates, it will be possible to identify diffraction features in the lightcurves, helping us to estimate a distance and object size to each occultation event. TAOS II is installed in the Observatorio Astronómico Nacional in San Pedro Mártir, Ensenada, México (OAN-SPM). The site has good observing conditions, typically with around 260 useful nights per year. Here, we describe the different process to be performed in a typical observing night: system start up and shut down, monitoring observing conditions, acquisition of calibration images, field selection, pointing, camera synchronization, determination of aperture sizes and positions, and high speed image acquisition.

La nueva sociedad del los procesos de globalización y estandarización en el contexto de educación superior, han traído un referente de implementación y uso de las Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación (TIC), como medio para la formación en la enseñanza, en la actual sociedad de la información. No obstante, este hecho demanda un análisis crítico acerca de la calidad que se ofrece en este contexto virtual y, en especial, la modalidad concerniente al aprendizaje mixto. Para ello, el estudio muestra una metodología fundamentada, consecuente con la revisión documental y el análisis comparativo de literatura, capaz de establecer un marco de análisis de las implicaciones del b-learning en el contexto de la educación. De este modo, la discusión se basa en las relaciones de uso pedagógico de las he-rramientas y entornos virtuales, en pro de apoyar la formación presencial y, a la par, sustentar un desarrollo educativo de calidad en instituciones. A manera de conclusión, se plantea una necesidad de fortalecer los procesos pedagógicos que soportan los recursos utilizados en el b-learning, en tanto se propicie una calidad educativa en términos de eficiencia, pertinencia y la adquisición de competencias para el mundo de la vida.

Septic arthritis (SA) is an emergency orthopedic condition that carries significant patient morbidity and mortality. Clinical data and blood test analyses are fairly unreliable in making the diagnosis and, therefore, utilizing a feasible and reliable diagnostic tool is desirable, particularly in emergency settings where rapid diagnosis is pivotal. Here, we report the case of a 58-year-old male presenting to the emergency department with a swollen elbow. After demonstration of a large articular effusion with point-of-care ultrasound, the synovial fluid analysis was compatible with SA. The patient was treated with elbow arthrotomy and systemic antibiotics and discharged shortly thereafter, uneventfully. Finally, we discuss the impact of ultrasound in diagnosing SA and the many advantages that make it the first-line tool in urgent care. La nueva sociedad del conocimiento propone una educación más competitiva a través de la aplicación de nuevas herramientas educativas, que favorezcan el proceso de enseñanza y aprendizaje. De entre todas son los recursos digitales los que, a través de una adecuada aplicación, permitirán motivar al estudiante en el momento de crear un nuevo conocimiento. El presente estudio analiza los resultados del uso de los recursos digitales en el desarrollo de la capacidad de análisis de los estudiantes universitarios del primer semestre de la carrera de Ingeniería en Computación y Redes de la Universidad Estatal del Sur de Manabí (UNESUM). El estudio sigue un diseño cuasi-experimental, la muestra estuvo compuesta por 84 alumnos, distribuidos en grupo experimental y de control. Para evaluar el desarrollo de la competencia de análisis de los estudiantes, se utilizaron recursos creados mediante herramientas de autor para la asignatura de Introducción a la informática. Los resultados obtenidos mostraron un incremento significativo en el grupo experimental, con lo que se comprobó que el uso de los recursos digitales mejora la capacidad de análisis de los estudiantes.

Background: A high proportion of critically ill patients with COVID-19 develop acute kidney injury (AKI) and die. Early recognition of subclinical AKI could contribute to AKI prevention. Therefore, this study was aimed at exploring the role of the urinary biomarkers NGAL and [TIMP-2]•[IGFBP7] for early detection of AKI in this population. Methods: This prospective, longitudinal cohort study included critically ill COVID-19 patients without AKI at study entry. Urine samples were collected on admission to critical care areas for determination of NGAL and [TIMP-2]•[IGFBP7] concentrations. Demographic information, comorbidities, clinical and laboratory data were recorded. The study outcomes were development of AKI and mortality during hospitalization. Comparisons of individuals who developed AKI during hospitalization vs. those without AKI were made using chi-squared test for categorical variables and Mann-Whitney U for continuous variables. Urinary biomarkers and their cutoff values were selected based on the highest sensitivity, specificity and area under the receiver-operating characteristics curve with 95% confidence intervals for prediction of AKI. Selected biomarkers and cutoffs were used in the Kaplan-Meier survival analyses for the time to AKI. Logistic regression analysis was used to identify the association between relevant covariates with AKI and mortality. For all analyses, two-sided P values £0.05 were considered statistically significant.Results: Of the 51 individuals studied, 25 developed AKI during hospitalization (49%). The risk factors for AKI were male gender (HR=7.57, 95% CI: 1.28-44.8; p=0.026) and [TIMP-2]•[IGFBP7] ³ 0.2 (ng/ml)2/1000 (HR=7.23 , 95% CI: 0.99-52.4; p=0.050). Mortality during hospitalization was significantly higher in the group with AKI than in the group without AKI (p=0.004). Persistent AKI was a risk factor for mortality (HR=7.42, 95% CI: 1.04-53.04; p=0.046).Conclusions: The combination of [TIMP-2]•[IGFBP7], together with clinical information, were useful for identification of subclinical AKI in critically ill COVID-19 patients. The role of additional biomarkers and their possible combinations for detection of AKI in critically ill COVID-19 patients remains to be explored in large clinical trials.

Multiple chronic conditions are an important factor influencing mortality in older adults. At the same time, cardiovascular events in older adult patients are one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide. This study aimed to design a machine learning model capable of predicting mortality risk in older adult patients with cardiovascular pathologies and multiple chronic diseases using the Cardiovascular Health Study database. The methodology for algorithm design included (i) database analysis, (ii) variable selection, (iii) feature matrix creation and data preprocessing, (iv) model training, and (v) performance analysis. The analysis and variable selection were performed through previous knowledge, correlation, and histograms to visualize the data distribution. The machine learning models selected were random forest, support vector machine, and logistic regression. The models were trained using two sets of variables. First, eight years of the data were summarized as the mode of all years per patient for each variable (123 variables). The second set of variables was obtained from the mode every three years (369 variables). The results show that the random forest trained with the second set of variables has the best performance (89% accuracy), which is better than other reported results in the literature.

We present a new pipeline based on the Support Vector Machine algorithm to confirm the detection and perform classification of small solar system objects by serendipitous stellar occultations. This pipeline is designed to analyze light curves and to identify the occultation events and the classification of the occulting bodies according to their size, typically from a fraction to a few kilometers, and their distance from the Sun, typically a few tens of astronomical units. The input light curves for this pipeline were obtained from the event simulator for the Trans-Neptunian Automated Occultation Survey (TAOS II). We explore parameters affecting occultation light curves such as spectral type, apparent magnitude and finite angular size of the occulted star, angle from opposition, and readout cadence for the observations; also we assumed a Poisson noise distribution as expected from the TAOS II project. We find that occultation events, especially by trans-Neptunian objects with diameters ≥2 km are detected with 99.99%, 99.53%, and 86% efficiency for stars with a visual apparent magnitude of 12, 14, and 16, respectively at 0.05 s of exposure time. In terms of size and distance classification the overall accuracy is 94%. However, for smaller objects the confirmation and classification depends mostly upon the signal-to-noise ratio.

TAOS II is a next-generation occultation survey with the goal of measuring the size distribution of the small end of the Kuiper Belt (objects with diameters 0.5–30 km). Such objects have magnitudes r > 30, and are thus undetectable by direct imaging. The project will operate three telescopes at San Pedro Mártir Observatory in Baja California, México. Each telescope will be equipped with a custom-built camera comprised of a focal-plane array of CMOS imagers. The cameras will be capable of reading out image data from 10,000 stars at a cadence of 20 Hz. The telescopes will monitor the same set of stars simultaneously to search for coincident occultation detections, thus minimising the false-positive rate. This talk described the project, and reported on the progress of the development of the survey infrastructure.

A 49-year-old woman developed signs of brain death after a severe traumatic brain injury. Transcranial Doppler (TCD), performed 4 hours after cessation of brain function based on the clinical neurologic examination, showed a reverberating flow pattern in the anterior (figure 1A) and posterior cerebral circulation (not shown), indicating cerebral circulatory arrest (CCA). At the same time, both central retinal arteries (CRA) showed a similar TCD pattern (figure 1B).

We derive limits on any electromagnetic counterpart to the compact binary merger S190814bv, whose parameters are consistent with the merger of a black hole and a neutron star. We present observations with the new wide-field optical imager DDOTI and also consider Swift/BAT observations reported by Palmer et al. (2019). We show that Swift/BAT would have detected a counterpart with similar properties to a typical on-axis short GRB at the 98 per cent confidence level, whereas our DDOTI observations only rule out such a counterpart at the 27 per cent confidence level. Neither have sufficient sensitivity to rule out an off-axis counterpart like GW 170817. We compare the efficiency of Swift/BAT and DDOTI for future observations, and show that DDOTI is likely to be about twice as efficient as Swift/BAT for off-axis events up to about 100 Mpc., Accepted by MNRAS. 6 pages. El presente trabajo de investigacion, presenta una perspectiva clara sobre el uso de entornos informaticos en la Educacion Superior ya que mediante la aplicacion de nuevas tecnologias se fortalece el desarrollo academico, cientifico – tecnologico de quienes utilizan estos ambientes como estrategia para la gestion academica. Este articulo tiene como objetivo organizar adecuadamente una plataforma informatica para que permita mejorar la gestion operativa de la Universidad Estatal del Sur de Manabi, se diagnostico la gestion operativa que se esta llevando actualmente, sus requerimientos de modernizacion y se propuso la elaboracion de un entorno virtual, el mismo que tuvo una serie de estrategias tecnologicas orientadas al ambito informatico. Para el desarrollo exitoso de este trabajo de investigacion se utilizo como metodologia instrumentos logicos y fisicos que se basaron fundamentalmente en documentos cientificos tecnicos que ayudaron a justificar el problema de investigacion. Se concluyo con la necesidad imperiosa de utilizar estos entornos virtuales en la UNESUM para potenciar la academia.

We present optical photometry of the afterglow of the long GRB 180205A with the COATLI telescope from 217 seconds to about 5 days after the {\itshape Swift}/BAT trigger. We analyse this photometry in the conjunction with the X-ray light curve from {\itshape Swift}/XRT. The late-time light curves and spectra are consistent with the standard forward-shock scenario. However, the early-time optical and X-ray light curves show non-typical behavior; the optical light curve exhibits a flat plateau while the X-ray light curve shows a flare. We explore several scenarios and conclude that the most likely explanation for the early behavior is late activity of the central engine.

COLIBRI is one of the two robotic ground follow-up telescopes for the SVOM (Space Variable Object Monitor) mission dedicated to the study of gamma-ray bursts, allowing determination of precise celestial coordinates of the detected bursts. COLIBRI telescope is a two-mirror Ritchey-Chretien telescope whose concave primary and convex secondary mirrors have diameters of 1325mm and 485mm respectively. The mirrors are currently manufactured at LAM (Laboratoire d’Astrophysique de Marseille). In this article, the advancement of the work is presented. We also give a global overview and status of the COLIBRI project.

International audience; We present an overview of the development of the end-to-end simulations programs developed for COLIBRI (Catching OpticaL and Infrared BRIght), a 1.3m robotic follow-up telescope of the forthcoming SVOM (Space Variable Object Monitor) mission dedicated to the detection and study of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). The overview contains a description of the Exposure Time Calculator, Image Simulator and photometric redshift code developed in order to assess the performance of COLIBRI. They are open source Python packages and were developed to be easily adaptable to any optical/ Near-Infrared imaging telescopes. We present the scientific performances of COLIBRI, which allows detecting about 95% of the current GRB dataset. Based on a sample of 500 simulated GRBs, a new Bayesian photometric redshift code predicts a relative photometric redshift accuracy of about 5% from redshift 3 to 7.

La presente investigación se realizó en Ecuador, en la zona sur de Manabí, consiste en un estudio de variables antropométricas como aspectos elementales para predecir talla adulta y detección de talentos deportivos, para el objeto de estudio la población fue 1.400 niños/as deportistas de 11 años, se utilizó la media aritmética para obtener promedio de la talla y peso por género. El resultado de las variables antropométricas y preferencias determinan que prevalecen por Cantón en ambos géneros los deportes individuales, siendo de mayor incidencia los deportes de combate, para tal efecto las preferencias son lucha, taekwondo, karate y judo, así mismo se evidencia talentos para los deportes de tiempos y marcas, deportes con balón y deportes de arte competitivo. En base a la investigación se planteó diseñar una solución de inteligencia de negocios que permita analizar y visualizar la información de los deportistas a través de herramientas de análisis multidimensional.

Los desechos tecnológicos se han convertido en un problema de sanidad para el medio ambiente y la salud pública, dado el desconocimiento que existe por parte de los usuarios ante la obsolescencia y/o el retiro de uso de los aparatos tecnológicos. Con base en esta premisa, en este artículo se evaluó el impacto ambiental que genera la basura tecnológica para motivar a las personas a reducir, reciclar y reutilizar los desechos tecnológicos. Para ello, se siguio una metodologia de tipo descriptiva – correlacional y con un diseño no experimental. La población la constituyeron 10 empresas que prestan servicios tecnológicos en el canton de Jipijapa. El instrumento fue un cuestionario tipo lickert con 3 alternativas de repuestas y para su aplicación se utilizó la técnica de la encuesta. El análisis de los datos se realizó a través de la estadística descriptiva y los resultados obtenidos indicaron que el 80% de los desechos tecnológicos que generan las empresas se depositan en la basura residencial. Dentro de sus conclusiones se pudo evidenciar que existe ineficiencia en el manejo de los residuos tecnológicos por parte de las empresas para reducir, reciclar y reutilizar los desechos tecnológicos.

COATLI is a new instrument and telescope that will provide 0.3 arcsec FWHM images from 550 to 920 nm over a large fraction of the sky. It consists of a robotic 50-cm telescope with a diffraction-limited imager. The imager has a steering mirror for fast guiding, a blue channel using an EMCCD from 400 to 550 nm to measure image motion, a red channel using a standard CCD from 550 to 920 nm, and an active optics system based on a deformable mirror to compensate static aberrations in the red channel. Since the telescope is small, fast guiding will provide diffraction-limited image quality in the red channel over a large fraction of the sky, even in relatively poor seeing. The COATLI telescope will be installed at the Observatorio Astronomico Nacional in Sierra San Pedro Martir, Baja California, Mexico, in 2016 and will initially operate with a simple interim imager. The definitive COATLI instrument will be installed in 2017. In this work we present the general optomechanical and control electronics design of COATLI.

DDOTI will be a wide-field robotic imager consisting of six 28-cm telescopes with prime focus CCDs mounted on a common equatorial mount. Each telescope will have a field of view of 12 square degrees, will have 2 arcsec pixels, and will reach a 10-sigma limiting magnitude in 60 seconds of r = 18.7 in dark time and r = 18.0 in bright time. The set of six will provide an instantaneous field of view of about 72 square degrees. DDOTI uses commercial components almost entirely. The first DDOTI will be installed at the Observatorio Astron\'omico Nacional in Sierra San Pedro Mart\'ir, Baja California, M\'exico in early 2017. The main science goals of DDOTI are the localization of the optical transients associated with GRBs detected by the GBM instrument on the Fermi satellite and with gravitational-wave transients. DDOTI will also be used for studies of AGN and YSO variability and to determine the occurrence of hot Jupiters. The principal advantage of DDOTI compared to other similar projects is cost: a single DDOTI installation costs only about US$500,000. This makes it possible to contemplate a global network of DDOTI installations. Such geographic diversity would give earlier access and a higher localization rate. This investigation was realised in soils of mangrove of two localities of the Ensenada de Tumaco, Colombian Pacific, denominated: El Rompido (Locality 1) and Asocarlet (Locality 2). The physical and chemical characteristics of each soil were evaluated, the results showed ranks for apparent density between 0,3 and 1 g /cm3, pH 3,4 and 4,7, organic matter 5,5 and 32,7%, total nitrogen 0,25 and 0,82%, organic carbon 3,19 and 18,96%, cationic exchange capacity 13,6 and 46,6 meq/100g, calcium 4,4 and 27,8 meq/100g, magnesium 7,5 and 34,5 meq/100g, sodium 22,8 and 109,6 meq/100g, potassium 0,8 and 4,6 meq/100g, cupper 0,2 and 0,82 ppm, zinc 0,2 and 1,88 ppm, manganese 2,2 and 18,4 ppm, iron 114 and 218 ppm, aluminum 9 and 39 meq/100g, borum 0,27 and 5,9 ppm and phosphorus 9 and 39 ppm, the texture in locality 1 was sandy and in 2 was silt. One concluded that for the survival of species of mangle, the soils of locality 1 presented/displayed conditions less appropriate than in the 2, product of the low values of pH and interchangeable bases, among others, apparently by the different tensors induced generally by the man. Se evaluaron las características físicas y químicas de cada suelo, los resultados mostraron rangos para densidad aparente entre 0.3 y 1 g /cm3, pH 3.4 y 4.7, materia orgánica 5.5 y 32.7%, nitrógeno total 0.25 y 0.82%, carbono orgánico 3.19 y 18.96%, capacidad de intercambio catiónico 13.6 y 46.6 meq/100g, calcio 4.4 y 27.8 meq/100g, magnesio 7.5 y 34.5 meq/100g, sodio 22.8 y 109.6 meq/100g, potasio 0.8 y 4.6 meq/100g, cobre 0.2 y 0.82 ppm, zinc 0.2 y 1.88 ppm, manganeso 2.2 y 18.4 ppm, hierro 114 y 218 ppm, aluminio 9 y 39 meq/100g, boro 0.27 y 5.9 ppm y fósforo 9 y 39 ppm, la textura en la localidad 1 fue arenosa y en la 2 limosa. Se concluyó que para la supervivencia de especies de mangle, los suelos de la localidad 1 presentaron condiciones menos apropiadas que en la 2, producto de los bajos valores de pH y de bases intercambiables, entre otros, al parecer por los diferentes tensores generalmente inducidos por el hombre.

COATLI will provide 0.3 arcsec FWHM images from 550 to 900 nm over a large fraction of the sky. It consists of a robotic 50-cm telescope with a diffraction-limited fast-guiding imager. Since the telescope is small, fast guiding will provide diffraction-limited image quality over a field of at least 1 arcmin and with coverage of a large fraction of the sky, even in relatively poor seeing.
