The paper reviews shunting electric locomotives, the use of which is becoming widespread due to lower costs of fuel and energy resources and a reduction in the impact on the environment. Mathematical models of the movement of a train with a shunting electric locomotive have been developed. A four-axle electric locomotive with a power of 750 kW is proposed for research. A mathematical model of the movement of a train with a ChME3 diesel locomotive has been developed. To compare the costs of fuel and energy resources for freight and transfer operations, simulations of train movement were carried out on sections of the route Kharkiv-Sortuvalny – Merefa and Kharkiv-Sortuvalny – Lyubotyn with different numbers of cars. The simulation was carried out for movement with a shunting electric locomotive and a ChME3 diesel locomotive. It was established that the costs of fuel and energy resources in the case of using a shunting electric locomotive are 2.5-3 times lower compared to a ChME3 diesel locomotive. Based on the obtained results, it is proposed to use dual mode locomotives for the renewal of shunting rolling stock for electrified sections of railways. The locomotive must be equipped with an energy-efficient electric drive and a combined power plant based on a modern diesel engine or other primary energy source in combination with an on-board energy storage system and intelligent management of energy flows in the traction system.

Purpose. The study is aimed at substantiating the structure and determining the main parameters of the traction electric drive of an electric locomotive for railway quarry transport, taking into account its modes of operation. Methodology. The research was carried out by means of mathematical modeling, which included solving the traction problem and evaluating the parameters of the energy exchange processes between the components of the traction electric drive. The simulation was carried out for the movement of the train along the track section and during shunting, which differ significantly in their mathematical description. During simulation of movement along the track section, the traction problem was solved using recommendations for traction calculations for train operation. A simplified model was developed to simulate movements during shunting. Determination of the parameters of the traction electric drive components is carried out by analyzing the processes of energy exchange in the traction electric drive based on the power balance. During the studies, it was assumed that the on-board energy storage in the traction mode feeds the traction electric motors of the booster section. In the electrodynamic braking mode, the energy accumulator stores energy from all traction electric motors of the electric locomotive. Findings. The authors obtained time dependences of the parameters that characterize the train movement at all stages of the cycle «empty half passage – loading – loaded half passage – unloading» (on the example of an electric locomotive for PJSC «Ferrexpo Poltava Mining»). The analysis of the obtained dependencies made it possible to determine the parameters of the main components of the traction electric drive for the proposed storage operation scenario. It was established that the energy capacity of the energy storage should be 250 kWh for one movement cycle. The energy storage power is 6000 kW. Originality. The authors of this paper for the first time proposed the structure of the traction electric drive of an electric locomotive for quarry railway transport, in which the electric motors of the control electric locomotive are powered from the catenary network, and the electric motors of the booster section are powered from the energy accumulator and are included in the operation at a load that exceeds 50% of the nominal one. Practical value. The practical value lies in the developed mathematical models of movement and energy exchange processes, which can be applied to the study of traction electric drives of vehicles of various purposes.

A procedure has been devised for modeling the dynamic pro-cesses in the proposed structure of an electromechanical shock absorber. Such shock absorbers can recuperate a part of the energy of oscillations into electrical energy allowing the subsequent possibility to use it by rolling stock. The procedure is based on solving the Lagrange equation for the electromechanical system. The model’s features are as follows. The model takes the form of a Cauchy problem, thereby making it possible to use it when simulating the processes of shock absorber operation. Two generalized coordinates have been selected (the charge and displacement of the armature). The components of the Lagrange equation have been identified. Based on the results from magnetic field calculation and subsequent regression analysis, we have derived polynomial dependences of flux linkage derivatives for the current and linear displacement of an armature, which make it possible to identify a generalized mathematical model of the electromechanical shock absorber. The magnetic field calculations, performed by using a finite-element method, have allowed us to derive a digital model of the magnetic field of an electromechanical shock absorber. To obtain its continuous model, a regression analysis of discrete field models has been conducted. When choosing a structure for the approximating model, a possibility to analytically differentiate partial derivatives for all coordinates has been retained. Based on the results from modeling free oscillations, it was established that the maximum module value of current is 0.234 A, voltage – 52.9 V. The process of full damping of oscillations takes about 3 seconds over 4 cycles. Compared to the basic design, the amplitude of armature oscillations and its velocity dropped from 13 to 85 % over the first three cycles, indicating a greater efficiency of electromechanical shock absorber operation in comparison with a hydraulic one. The recuperated energy amounted to 3.3 J, and the scattered energy – 11.5 J. Для запропонованої конструкції електромеханічного амортизатору розроблено методику моделювання динамічних процесів. Такі амортизатори мають можливість рекуперувати частину енергії коливань в електричну енергію з подальшою можливістю її використання на рухомому складі. Методика основана на вирішенні рівняння Лагранжу для електромеханічної системи. Особливості моделі є наступними. Модель має вигляд задачі Коши, який спритний до вживання при моделювання процесів роботи амортизатору. Обрані дві узагальнені координати (заряд та переміщення якорю). Ідентифіковані складові частини рівняння Лагранжу. За результатами розрахунку магнітного поля і подальшого регресійного аналізу отримано поліноміальні залежності похідних потокозчеплення потоку і лінійному переміщенню якоря, які дають можливість ідентифікувати узагальнену математичну модель електромеханічного амортизатору. Проведені розрахунки магнітного поля методом скінчених елементів дозволили отримати цифрову модель магнітного поля електромеханічного амортизатору. Для отримання її безперервної моделі проведено регресійний аналізу дискретні моделі поля. Про виборі структури апроксимуючої моделі дотримана можливість аналітичного диференціювання часткових похідних по всіх координатах. За результатами моделювання вільних коливань встановлено, що максимальне по модулю значення струму складає 0,234 А, а напруги – 52,9 В. За близько 3 с. проходить процес повного погашення коливань за 4 періоду. Порівняно з базовою конструкцією амплітуда коливань ходу якоря та його швидкості знизилась від 13 до 85 % за перші три періоди, що свідчить про більшу ефективність роботи електромеханічного амортизатору в порівнянні з гідравлічним. Енергія, що рекуперовано, склала 3,3 Дж, а, що розсіяно – 11,5 Дж.
