In in vivoexperiment ethanol promoted increased in creatinin, total cholesterol, fraction non HDL, reduced/oxidized glutathione ratio, TBARS, protein carbonylated and MMP-2 activity, and decreased GPx activity. B. trimerapromoted a decreased in reduced/oxidized glutathione ratio, TBARS and MMP-2 activity, besides increased in GPx activity. The livers became steatotic, but B. trimeraaqueous extract decreased the degree of damaged.

Considering the growing body of evidence that indicates the contribution of superoxide anions (O2−) and other reactive oxygen species (ROS) to the development of hypertension, we assessed whether animal models of hypertension have a benefic effect with tempol, a superoxide dismutase mimetic, to help augment the design of future studies.
