Abstract

Single-beam super-resolution microscopy, also known as superlinear microscopy, exploits the nonlinear response of fluorescent probes in confocal microscopy. The technique requires no complex purpose-built system, light field modulation, or beam shaping. Here, we present a strategy to enhance spatial resolution of superlinear microscopy by modulating excitation intensity during image acquisition. This modulation induces dynamic optical nonlinearity in upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs), resulting in variations of higher spatial-frequency information in the obtained images. The high-order information can be extracted with a proposed weighted finite difference imaging algorithm from raw fluorescence images, to generate an image with a higher resolution than superlinear microscopy images. We apply this approach to resolve two adjacent nanoparticles within a diffraction-limited area, improving the resolution to 130 nm. 18. Synthesis of a Ce–La Adsorbent with Large Adsorption Capacity for Efficient Fluoride Removal from Leaching Solution of Spent Lithium-Ion Batteries

Abstract

The presence of fluoride in the leaching solution of spent lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) can harm product purity and the environment and potentially lead to the corrosion of recycling equipment. However, the development of fluoride adsorbents face challenges due to their limited adsorption capacity. Herein, flaky porous Ce–La oxides adsorbent with high metal content, synthesized using ammonia as a complexing and precipitating agent in a continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR), are employed for fluoride removal. The maximum adsorption capacity of the Ce–La oxides adsorbent reaches up to 662.25 mg/g, greatly exceeding that of other reported adsorbents. Furthermore, the adsorbtent can be easily regenerated through desorption in NaOH solution in 0.5 h, with only an 8.4% decrease in adsorption capacity after four cycles. The F–concentration in the leaching solution of spent LiNixCoyMn1–x–yO2(NCM)-based batteries can be reduced from 336.5 to 0.6 mg/L by the Ce–La oxides adsorbent, meeting the requirements for the production of battery grade Ni/Co/Mn sulfate solution. These results demonstrate that Ce–La oxides adsorbent with superior fluoride adsorption performance can be produced via a straightforward method that is suitable for large-scale production.

20. Enhancing ionic conductivity and suppressing Li dendrite formation in lithium batteries using a vinylene-linked covalent organic framework solid polymer electrolyte.

Abstract

The growing demand for energy-dense and safe batteries drives research towards all-solid-state lithium (Li) batteries. Existing poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO)-based solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) suffer from low Li+ conductivity and Li dendrite penetration. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) as highly crystalline, porous, and chemically diverse organic materials show great potential to address these problems. However, extensively studied imine-linked COFs show insufficient electrochemical stability against reactive Li metal, limiting their application for Li batteries. Herein, we develop a chemically stable vinylene-linked covalent organic framework (VCOF)-based SPE. By incorporating <4 wt% VCOF-1, a 25% improvement in ionic conductivity and a 46% increase in Li+ transference number at 60 °C are achieved. DFT calculations reveal that VCOF-1 facilitates Li+ transport through its cylindrical pores aided by PEO. In situ X-ray tomography confirms that VCOF-1 substantially suppresses Li dendrite growth in the VCOF-SPE-based Li metal batteries attributed to the enhanced Li-ion conduction and 12-fold improved mechanical strength. VCOF-SPEs also exhibit a high capacity of ∼145 mA h g−1 at 0.1C in LiFePO4‖Li coin cells. Notably, the LiFePO4‖Li pouch cell withstands abuse test conditions such as folding, cutting, and nail penetration. Abstract

Wound infections and delayed complications after caesarean section surgical procedure to mothers would have a prevalence of discomfort, stress and dissatisfaction in the postpartum period. In this report, one‐pot synthesis is used for the preparation of chitosan (CS)‐based copper nanoparticles (nCu), which was used for the preparation of zinc oxide (ZnO) hydrogel as wound dressing materials after surgery. The antibacterial activity of (CS‐nCu/ZnO) developed hydrogels was studied zone of inhibition, against gram‐positive and gram‐negative bacteria. The antibacterial activity of the CS‐nCu/ZnO hydrogel demonstrated that nanoformulated hydrogel materials have provided excellent bactericidal action against clinically approved bacterial pathogens. The biocompatibility and in vitro wound healing potential of the developed wound closure materials were studied by MTT assay and wound scratch assay methods, respectively. The MTT assay and cell migration assay results demonstrated that CS‐nCu/ZnO hydrogel material induces cell compatibility and effective cell proliferation ability. These findings suggest that the CS‐nCu/ZnO hydrogel outperforms CS‐ZnO in terms of wound healing and could be used as a wound closure material in caesarean section wound treatment. Abstract

Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) are known for their high energy density but exhibit poor cyclic stability and safety risks due to side reactions between the electrode and electrolyte. To address these issues, a novel approach involving construction of a polymer coating layer (PCL) viain situself-polymerization using 2,2,3,4,4,4-hexafluorobutyl methacrylate (HFBM) as an electrolyte additive on the cathode is proposed. The PCL endows the electrolyte with a high onset oxidation potential (4.78 V) and lithium-ion transference number (0.52). The uniform and robust in situconstructed PCL can effectively inhibit the severe irreversible side reactions and suppress harmful reactions, thus providing a protective barrier against degradation. The resulting Li||LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2batteries exhibit an improved discharge capacity retention of 80% at 1C over 100 cycles. These results demonstrate that the in situself-polymerization strategy holds promising potential for enhancing LIB performance and long-term stability, especially when high-voltage cathode materials are used.

25. A convergent fabrication of 1-aminopyridine-capped gold nanomaterials and reduced graphene oxide nanocomposites for ovarian cancer cells

Abstract

Since their discovery, graphene nanocomposites have attracted much attention for their potential use in many biological applications. Herein, we examined the highly reduced graphene oxide (HRGO) and gold nanomaterial (AuNM)-based (HRGO/Au@AP) nanocomposite for ovarian cancer and apoptosis-inducing abilities, the nanomaterials’ anticancer activities against human ovarian cancer cell lines (SKOV3 and A2780). HRGO was functionalized with the 1-aminopyridine (AP) as a potential stabilizing agent to improve the sample’s solubility and bioavailability. The surface morphology and structure of the nanocomposites were examined by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. The results of an anticancer study comparing HRGO, HRGO/Au, and HRGO/Au@AP nanocomposites showed a greater capacity to induce apoptosis, the apoptosis assays (AO-EB, DAPI, and Annexin V-FITC/PI staining) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) measurements on SKOV3 and A2780 cells. This data suggests that HRGO/Au@AP promotes potent apoptosis in human ovarian cancer cells.
