5. MKIoU Loss: Towards Accurate Oriented Object Detection in Aerial Images

Abstract

Oriented bounding box regression is crucial for oriented object detection. However, regression-based methods often suffer from boundary problems and the inconsistency between loss and evaluation metrics. In this paper, a modulated Kalman IoU loss of approximate SkewIoU is proposed, named MKIoU. To avoid boundary problems, we convert the oriented bounding box to Gaussian distribution, then use the Kalman filter to approximate the intersection area. However, there exists significant difference between the calculated and actual intersection areas. Thus, we propose a modulation factor to adjust the sensitivity of angle deviation and width-height offset to loss variation, making the loss more consistent with the evaluation metric. Furthermore, the Gaussian modeling method avoids the boundary problem but causes the angle confusion of square objects simultaneously. Thus, the Gaussian Angle Loss (GA Loss) is presented to solve this problem by adding a corrected loss for square targets. The proposed GA Loss can be easily extended to other Gaussian-based methods. Experiments on three publicly available aerial image datasets, DOTA, UCAS-AOD, and HRSC2016, show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract

Oriented object detection is a challenging task in aerial images since the objects in aerial images are displayed in arbitrary directions and are frequently densely packed. The mainstream detectors describe rotating objects using a five-parament or eight-parament representations, which suffer from representation ambiguity for orientated object definition. In this paper, we propose a novel representation method based on area ratio of parallelogram, called ARP. Specifically, ARP regresses the minimum bounding rectangle of the oriented object and three area ratios. Three area ratios include the area ratio of a directed object to the smallest circumscribed rectangle and two parallelograms to the minimum circumscribed rectangle. It simplifies offset learning and eliminates the issue of angular periodicity or label point sequences for oriented objects. To further remedy the confusion issue of nearly horizontal objects, the area ratio between the object and its minimal circumscribed rectangle is employed to guide the selection of horizontal or oriented detection for each object. Moreover, the rotated efficient Intersection over Union (R-EIoU) loss with horizontal bounding box and three area ratios are designed to optimize the bounding box regression for rotating objects. Experimental results on remote sensing datasets, including HRSC2016, DOTA, and UCAS-AOD, show that our method achieves superior detection performance than many state-of-the-art approaches.

Abstract

Abstract Skeletal muscle and thermogenic adipose tissue are both critical for the maintenance of body temperature in mammals. However, whether these two tissues are interconnected to modulate thermogenesis and metabolic homeostasis in response to thermal stress remains inconclusive. Here, we report that human and mouse obesity is associated with elevated Musclin levels in both muscle and circulation. Intriguingly, muscle expression of Musclin is markedly increased or decreased when the male mice are housed in thermoneutral or chronic cool conditions, respectively. Beige fat is then identified as the primary site of Musclin action. Muscle-transgenic or AAV-mediated overexpression of Musclin attenuates beige fat thermogenesis, thereby exacerbating diet-induced obesity and metabolic disorders in male mice. Conversely, Musclin inactivation by muscle-specific ablation or neutralizing antibody treatment promotes beige fat thermogenesis and improves metabolic homeostasis in male mice. Mechanistically, Musclin binds to transferrin receptor 1 (Tfr1) and antagonizes Tfr1-mediated cAMP/PKA-dependent thermogenic induction in beige adipocytes. This work defines the temperature-sensitive myokine Musclin as a negative regulator of adipose thermogenesis that exacerbates the deterioration of metabolic health in obese male mice and thus provides a framework for the therapeutic targeting of this endocrine pathway.

Abstract

Employee voice behaviors are critical to enhanced organizational success. The current study applies self-determination theory (SDT) and the job demands-resources model (JD-R) to examine the relationships among job autonomy, work engagement, and voice behaviors and investigates the moderating role of person-organization fit (P-O fit) on these relationships. A total of 262 full-time employees from various industries (e.g., manufacturing, construction, financial, service, and education industries) in Taiwan completed questionnaires across two time points. The results demonstrated that job autonomy was positively related to promotive voice behavior through work engagement. Additionally, P-O fit strengthened the direct effect of work engagement on promotive voice behavior and the indirect effect of job autonomy on promotive voice behavior through work engagement. 29. Association between fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (fALFF) and facial emotion recognition ability in first-episode schizophrenia patients: a fMRI study

Abstract

Abstract It was still unclear that the correlation between the resting-state intrinsic activity in brain regions and facial emotion recognition (FER) ability in patients with first-episode schizophrenia (FSZ). Our aim was to analyse the correlation between the fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (fALFF) and FER ability in FSZ patients. A total of 28 patients with FSZ and 33 healthy controls (HCs) completed visual search tasks for FER ability. Regions of interest (ROIs) related to facial emotion were obtained from a previous meta-analysis. Pearson correlation analysis was performed to understand the correlation between fALFF and FER ability. Our results indicated that the patients performed worse than the HCs in the accuracy performances of happy FER and fearful FER. The previous meta-analysis results showed that the brain regions related to FER included the bilateral amygdala (AMY)/hippocampus (HIP), right fusiform gyrus (FFG), and right supplementary motor area (SMA). Partial correlation analysis showed that the fALFF of the right FFG was associated with high-load fearful FER accuracy (r = − 0.60, p = 0.004). Our study indicated that FER ability is correlated with resting-state intrinsic activity in brain regions related to facial emotion, which may provide a reference for the study of FER deficiency in schizophrenia.

32. Mentoring and Job Search Behaviors: A Moderated Mediation Model of Job Search Self-Efficacy

Abstract

Limited research exists around how to effectively enhance the job search behaviors and self-efficacy of job seekers during the job search process. In the current study, we investigated whether mentoring functions (i.e., career and psychosocial functions) are related to job search behaviors through job search self-efficacy. Moreover, we tested the interactive effects of career mentoring and psychosocial mentoring on job search self-efficacy and job search behaviors. Two-wave panel data were collected from 164 college students in China to test our hypotheses. The results indicated that psychosocial mentoring was related to job search behaviors both directly and indirectly through job search self-efficacy. In addition, our results revealed that the interactive effects of career mentoring and psychosocial mentoring on job search self-efficacy and on job search behaviors through job search self-efficacy were stronger when career and psychosocial mentoring were high. The implications of the study's findings and directions for future research are offered.

44. Dual‐band and triple‐band balun bandpass filters using open‐circuited stubs loaded on ring resonators.

Abstract

A dual‐band and a triple‐band balun bandpass filters (BPFs) are proposed in this paper, using open‐circuited stubs loaded on ring resonators. The proposed baluns are in general composed of three parallel‐coupled lines and a ring resonator loaded with open‐circuited stubs. The design concept originates from the dual‐band characteristics of a uniform ring resonator. In order to achieve the triple‐band balun, four open‐circuited stubs are loaded on the uniform ring resonator to separate the two transmission poles. Afterward, the odd‐ and even‐mode equivalent models of the proposed circuit were analyzed, and the relationship between the odd‐ and even‐mode resonance points and frequency was plotted to confirm the adjustable dual‐ and triple‐band characteristics of the model. To further demonstrate the validity of the proposed balun prototype, a dual‐band balun BPF and a triple‐band balun BPF are designed and fabricated. The measurement exhibits the dual‐band balun BPF (3.41/6.88 GHz) amplitude imbalance (AI) lower than ±0.6 dB and phase imbalance (PI) lower than ±4°, the triple‐band balun BPF (3.19/5.82/7.17 GHz) AI lower than ±0.7 dB and PI lower than ±7°. The circuit proposed in this paper can be used to design both dual‐band and triple‐band balun BPFs simultaneously. The designed triple‐band balun BPF has advantages such as miniaturization and low amplitude imbalance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
