The combination with superconductivity and topological nontrivial band structure provides a promising route towards novel quantum states such as topological superconductivity. Here, we report the first observation of superconductivity (4.1 K) in Ba5In4Bi5 single crystal, a noncentrosymmetric topological semimetal featuring nodal chain loops at the high-symmetry points R and X. The magnetization, resistivity, and specific heat capacity measurements reveal that Ba5In4Bi5 is a moderately coupled type-II Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer superconductor. Bulk superconductivity is suggested from the magnetic susceptibility and specific heat measurements. The results show that Ba5In4Bi5 provides a new platform for exploring the relationship of superconductivity and topological nontrivial band topology.

Single crystals of monoclinic La$_{5}$Co$_{2}$Ge$_{3}$ were grown using a self-flux method and were characterized by room-temperature powder X-ray diffraction, anisotropic temperature and field dependent magnetization, temperature dependent resistivity, specific heat, and muon spin rotation. La$_{5}$Co$_{2}$Ge$_{3}$ has a Curie temperature ($T_\mathrm{C}$) of 3.8~K and clear signatures of ferromagnetism in magnetization and $\mu SR$ data, as well as a clear loss of spin disorder scattering in resistivity data and a sharp specific heat anomaly. The magnetism associated with La$_{5}$Co$_{2}$Ge$_{3}$ is itinerant, has a change in the entropy at $T_\mathrm {C}$ of $\simeq$0.05 R ln2 per mol-Co, and has a low-field saturated moment of $\sim 0.1 \mu_\mathrm B$/Co, making it a rare, itinerant, small moment, low $T_\mathrm C$ compound.

We present self flux growth and characterization of single crystalline AlMn$_2$B$_2$. It is an orthorhombic (space group Cmmm), layered material with a plate like morphology. The anisotropic bulk magnetization data, electrical transport and $^{11}$B nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR) data revealed an antiferromagnetic (AFM) transition at 313 $\pm$ 2 K. In the magnetization data, there is also a broad local maximum significantly above the AFM transition that could be a signature of low dimensional magnetic interactions in AlMn$_2$B$_2$., Comment: 8 pages 13 figures

We have grown a series of nickel substituted single crystals of the layered ferromagnet (FM) Fe$_3$GeTe$_2$. The large single crystalline samples of (Fe$_{1-x}$Ni$_x$)$_3$GeTe$_2$ with $x = 0-0.84$ were characterized with single crystal X-ray diffraction, magnetic susceptibility, electrical resistance and muon spin spectroscopy. We find Fe can be continuously substituted with Ni with only minor structural variation. In addition, FM order is suppressed from $T_\mathrm{C}=212$~K for $x=0$ down to $T_\mathrm{C}=50$~K for $x=0.3$, which is accompanied with a strong suppression of saturated and effective moment, and Curie-Weiss temperature. Beyond $x=0.3$, the FM order is continuously smeared into a FM cluster glass phase, with a nearly full magnetic volume fraction. We attribute the observed change in the nature of magnetic order to the intrinsically disordered structure of Fe$_3$GeTe$_2$ and subsequent dilution effects from the Ni substitution.

Single crystals of AlFe$_{2}$B$_{2}$ have been grown using the self flux growth method and then measured the structural properties, temperature and field dependent magnetization, and temperature dependent electrical resistivity at ambient as well as high pressure. The Curie temperature of AlFe$_{2}$B$_{2}$ is determined to be $274$~K. The measured saturation magnetization and the effective moment for paramagnetic Fe-ion indicate the itinerant nature of the magnetism with a Rhode-Wohlfarth ratio $ \frac{M_{C}}{M_{sat}}\approx 1.14$. Temperature dependent resistivity measurements under hydrostatic pressure shows that transition temperature \textit{T$_C$} is suppressed down to 255 K for $p = 2.24$~GPa pressure with a suppression rate of $\sim -8.9$~K/GPa. The anisotropy fields and magnetocrystalline anisotropy constants are in reasonable agreement with density functional theory calculations., Comment: 12 pages, 12 figures

We report on the synthesis of single crystalline and polycrystalline samples of Ce$_{3-x}$Mg$_x$Co$_9$ solid solution ($0\leq x \lesssim 1.4$) and characterization of their structural and magnetic properties. The crystal structure remains rhombohedral in the whole composition range and Mg partially replaces Ce in the 6\textit{c} site of the CeCo$_3$ structure. Ferromagnetism is induced by Mg substitutions starting as low as $x=0.18$ and reaching a Curie temperature as high as $450$\,K for $x=1.35$. Measurements on single crystals with $x=1.34$ and $T_\textrm{C}=440$\,K indicate an axial magnetic anisotropy with the anisotropy field of $6$\,T and a magnetization of $6$\,$\mu_B/$f.u. at $300$\,K. Coercicity is observed in the polycrystalline samples consistent with the observed axial magnetic anisotropy. Our discovery of ferromagnetism with large axial magnetic anisotropy induced by substituting a rare-earth element by Mg is a very promising result in the search of inexpensive permanent-magnet materials and suggests other non-magnetic phases, similar to CeCo$_3$, may also conceal nearby ferromagnetic phases., Comment: Physical Review Applied 2018

We report the growth, structure and characterization of BaZnGa, identifying it as the sole known ternary compound in the Ba-Zn-Ga system. Single crystals of BaZnGa can be grown out of excess Ba-Zn and adopt a tI36 structure type. There are three unique Ba sites and three M\,=\,Zn/Ga sites. Using DFT calculations we can argue that whereas one of these three M sites is probably solely occupied by Ga, the other two M sites, most likely, have mixed Zn/Ga occupancy. Temperature dependent resistivity and magnetization measurements suggest that BaZnGa is a poor metal with no electronic or magnetic phase transitions between 2\,K and 300\,K.

Single crystals of $R$Mg$_{2}$Cu$_{9}$ ($R$=Y, Ce-Nd, Gd-Dy, Yb) were grown using a high-temperature solution growth technique and were characterized by measurements of room-temperature x-ray diffraction, temperature-dependent specific heat and temperature-, field-dependent resistivity and anisotropic magnetization. YMg$_{2}$Cu$_{9}$ is a non-local-moment-bearing metal with an electronic specific heat coefficient, $\gamma \sim$ 15 mJ/mol K$^2$. Yb is divalent and basically non-moment bearing in YbMg$_{2}$Cu$_{9}$. Ce is trivalent in CeMg$_{2}$Cu$_{9}$ with two magnetic transitions being observed at 2.1 K and 1.5 K. PrMg$_{2}$Cu$_{9}$ does not exhibit any magnetic phase transition down to 0.5 K. The other members being studied ($R$=Nd, Gd-Dy) all exhibits antiferromagnetic transitions at low-temperatures ranging from 3.2 K for NdMg$_{2}$Cu$_{9}$ to 11.9 K for TbMg$_{2}$Cu$_{9}$. Whereas GdMg$_{2}$Cu$_{9}$ is isotropic in its paramagnetic state due to zero angular momentum ($L$=0), all the other local-moment-bearing members manifest an anisotropic, planar magnetization in their paramagnetic states. To further study this planar anisotropy, detailed angular-dependent magnetization was carried out on magnetically diluted (Y$_{0.99}$Tb$_{0.01}$)Mg$_{2}$Cu$_{9}$ and (Y$_{0.99}$Dy$_{0.01}$)Mg$_{2}$Cu$_{9}$. Despite the strong, planar magnetization anisotropy, the in-plane magnetic anisotropy is weak and field-dependent. We use high resolution angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy and density functional theory with experimentally obtained crystal structure parameters to study the electronic properties of CaKFe4As4. In contrast to related CaFe2As2 compounds, CaKFe4As4 has high Tc of 35K at stochiometric composition. This presents unique opportunity to study properties of high temperature superconductivity of iron arsenic superconductors in absence of doping or substitution. The Fermi surface consists of three hole pockets at $\Gamma$ and two electron pockets at the $M$ point. We find that the values of the superconducting gap are nearly isotropic, but significantly different for each of the FS sheets. Most importantly we find that the overall momentum dependence of the gap magnitudes plotted across the entire Brillouin zone displays a strong deviation from the simple cos(kx)cos(ky) functional form of the gap function, proposed in the scenario of the Cooper-pairing driven by a short range antiferromagnetic exchange interaction. Instead, the maximum value of the gap is observed for FS sheets that are closest to the ideal nesting condition in contrast to the previous observations in some other ferropnictides. These results provide strong support for the multiband character of superconductivity in CaKFe4As4, in which Cooper pairing forms on the electron and the hole bands interacting via dominant interband repulsive interaction, enhanced by FS nesting}., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures

The synthesis and crystallographic, thermodynamic and transport properties of single crystalline Rh$_{9}$In$_4$S$_4$ were studied. The resistivity, magnetization and specific heat measurements all clearly indicate bulk superconductivity with a critical temperature, $T_{c}\sim$ 2.25 K. The Sommerfeld coefficient $\gamma$ and the Debye temperature($\varTheta_{\textrm{D}}$) were found to be 34 mJ mol$^{-1}$ K$^{-2}$ and 217 K respectively. The observed specific heat jump, $\Delta C/\gamma T_{c}$ = 1.66, is larger than the expected BCS weak coupling value of 1.43. Ginzburg-Landau (GL) ratio of the low temperature GL-penetration depth, $\lambda_\text{GL}$$\approx$ 5750\AA, to the GL-coherence length, $\xi_\text{GL}$$\approx$ 94\AA, is large: $\kappa$ $\sim$ 60. Furthermore, we observed a peak effect in the resistivity measurement as a function of both temperature and magnetic field.

Single crystals of Bi$_{2} $Rh$ _{3}$S$ _{2}$ and Bi$_{2} $Rh$ _{3.5}$S$ _{2}$ were synthesized by solution growth and the crystal structures, thermodynamic and transport properties of both compounds were studied. In the case of Bi$_{2} $Rh$ _{3}$S$ _{2}$, a structural first-order transition at around 165 K is identified by single crystal diffraction experiments, with clear signatures visible in resistivity, magnetization and specific heat data. No superconducting transition for Bi$_{2} $Rh$ _{3}$S$ _{2}$ was observed down to 0.5 K. In contrast, no structural phase transition at high temperature was observed for Bi$_{2} $Rh$ _{3.5}$S$ _{2}$, however bulk superconductivity with a critical temperature, $T_{c}\approx$ 1.7 K was observed. The Sommerfeld coefficient $\gamma$\ and the Debye temperature($\varTheta_{\textrm{D}}$) were found to be 9.4 mJ mol$^{-1}$ K$^{-2}$ and 209 K respectively for Bi$_{2} $Rh$ _{3}$S$ _{2}$, and 22 mJ mol$^{-1}$ K$^{-2}$ and 196 K respectively for Bi$_{2} $Rh$ _{3.5}$S$ _{2}$. Study of the specific heat in the superconducting state of Bi$_{2} $Rh$ _{3.5}$S$ _{2}$ suggests that Bi$_{2} $Rh$ _{3.5}$S$ _{2}$ is a weakly coupled, BCS superconductor., Comment: 8 pages, 11 figures
