A projection lens with a 30-degree field of view is developed for use in augmented reality (AR) glasses, including a waveguide combiner designed for a 0.35-inch LCoS panel. The entrance pupil diameter of the lens is 14 mm and the lens has an effective focal length of 16.443 mm; an F-number of 1.175. This paper has four key issues: optical projection lens design, lens manufacturing and assembly tolerance analysis, projection lens resolution testing, and AR glasses system resolution testing of panel images projected by the projection lens. After lens manufacture, the lens was tested, achieving a central field image quality of 57 cycles/mm, an angular resolution of 33 pixels per degree (PPD), a 0.7 field image quality of 40.3 cycles/mm, and an angular resolution of 23 pixels per degree (PPD). Imaging performance testing based on a diffraction-type waveguide shows a resolution of 57 cycles/mm in the center area and an angular resolution of 33 PPD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The deposition of thin uniform dielectric layers on graphene is important for its successful integration into electronic devices. We report on the atomic layer deposition (ALD) of Al2O3 nanofilms onto graphene grown by chemical vapor deposition onto copper foil. A pretreatment with deionized water (DI H2O) for graphene functionalization was carried out, and, subsequently, trimethylaluminum and DI H2O were used as precursors for the Al2O3 deposition process. The proper temperature regime for this process was adjusted by means of the ALD temperature window for Al2O3 deposition onto a Si substrate. The obtained Al2O3/graphene heterostructures were characterized by Raman and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, ellipsometry and atomic force and scanning electron microscopy. Samples of these heterostructures were transferred onto glass substrates by standard methods, with the Al2O3 coating serving as a protective layer during the transfer. Raman monitoring at every stage of the sample preparation and after the transfer enabled us to characterize the influence of the Al2O3 coating on the graphene film. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, we present an enhanced approach‐a drive signal management scheme employed on a micro‐display device of optical engine to retune the color uniformity of an Augmented Reality (AR) eyewear display with a the Volume Holographic Optical Elements (VHOEs)‐based waveguide. Our method streamlines multiplexing complexity, necessitating just one optical waveguide and three RGB gratings to attain a full‐color eyewear display with nearly a 16° horizontal field of view (FOV) and less than 3% ΔELab color non‐uniformity. In this study we developed an approach to improve the characteristics of photopolymers for holographic data storage. Through codoping different compounds, N, N-dimethy1-4-nitroaniline (DMNA) and zinc methylacrylate (Zn[(MA).sub.2], into 9,10-phenanthrenequinone (PQ) doped poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), the diffraction efficiency and the value of dynamic range (M#) have been progressed. We enhanced the diffraction efficiency (from 36.1 to 86.2%) and the dynamic range (M#, from 2.9 to 10.7) of PQ-doped PMMA through codoping with DMNA and Zn(MA)2. Using mass spectrometry and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, we investigated the mechanism behind the improvements in optical storage induced by the presence of Zn[(MA).sub.2] and DMNA in PMMA/PQ. We designed a color MR display based on a dual‐layers volume holographic light guide. The field of view can achieve 50 degrees. Each VHOEs as the in‐coupler and out‐coupler was produced with wavelength multiplexing process. Furthermore, we proposed the method to enhance the color uniformity by optimizing the light source. We analyze and compare two typical recording and thermal fixing procedures of a volume hologram in a Fe:LiNbO3 crystal (low-high-low procedure and high-low procedure). We consider the kinetics of the recording, compensating, and developing processes by taking into account the ratio of the conductivities between the protons and the electrons as a function of temperature. From the analysis the optimal environmental conditions (in terms of the fixing temperature and the compensation time) for each fixing procedure can be deduced for a crystal with given material parameters.

Perylene derivatives possess large absorptivity and high quantum yields (QYs) and thus are promising luminophores for luminescent solar concentrators (LSCs). Unfortunately, severe aggregation‐caused quenching, poor solubility, and large reabsorption significantly reduce their solid‐state photoluminescence. To address these issues, perylene tetracarboxylic acid (PTCA) is prepared by hydrolyzing perylene tetracarboxylic dianhydride in sodium hydroxide, which is highly compatible with amino‐silane precursors for in situ sol–gel synthesis of the silica matrix. In this case, highly luminescent and transparent PTCA@silica composites are formed, in which PTCA mainly exists in the monomer species due to covalent crosslinking to silica network structures. Therefore, a near‐unity solid‐state QY of ≈90% is obtained even at elevated loadings and existence of reabsorption due to the preservation of monomer states and efficient photon recycling. To demonstrate their potentials in LSCs, large‐area LSCs (10 cm×10 cm×0.5 cm) with laminated configuration are fabricated, yielding a high power conversion efficiency of 1.1%. To mitigate the escape‐cone losses, the LSCs can be integrated with holographic grating, reaching an ultrahigh edge‐emission efficiency of 90%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
