Understanding of single-layer and bilayer thin films of WO3 and Ta2O5 for electrochromic applications remains elusive. In this study, single layers of WO3 and Ta2O5 and bilayer thin films of WO3/Ta2O5 and Ta2O5/WO3 were prepared by the sol–gel method followed by spin coating. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis revealed the semicrystalline nature of WO3 and the absence of significant crystalline planes in Ta2O5. Raman spectroscopy confirmed the characteristic vibrational modes of WO3 and Ta2O5 in both single-layer and bilayer thin films. Enhancement in cyclic voltammetry (CV) was observed in Ta2O5/WO3 compared to other thin films. Additionally, Ta2O5/WO3 exhibited a greater change in transmittance (ΔT) relative to other configurations. The impact of proton irradiation on the thin films was further investigated, revealing modifications in their structural and phonon vibrational properties. Notably, the CV performance of the irradiated thin films was drastically reduced. X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) provided insights into the modulation of hybridization of O with W/Ta and the charge states of W and Ta in the thin films. This study provides a comprehensive understanding of single-layer and bilayer electrochromic thin films and their response to proton irradiation, paving the way for the development of space-applicable electrochromic bilayer thin films with improved performance and stability. Uncertainties have grown around the world during the last few decades. Pandemic uncertainty has a substantial impact on economic activities, which may have a big influence on energy consumption. The goal of this investigation is to appraise the asymmetric influence of pandemic uncertainty on nonrenewable and renewable energy consumption in the top 10 energy consumer economies of the European Union (Germany, Poland, Spain, Netherlands, France, Italy, Belgium, Sweden, Czech Republic, and Finland). Previously, panel data approaches were utilized to obtain reliable outcomes on the pandemic‐energy consumption nexus, regardless of the fact that various nations did not autonomously exhibit similar relationship. This investigation, on the other hand, implements a special technique "Quantile‐on‐Quantile" that supports us to appraise time‐series interdependence in each economy by providing international yet nation‐specific perceptions of the connection among the variables. Estimates show that pandemic uncertainty reduces both nonrenewable and renewable energy consumption in most selected nations at stated quantiles of the data distribution. Nonrenewable energy consumption is much more influenced by pandemic uncertainty than renewable energy consumption. Furthermore, the rank of asymmetries across our variables differentiates by the economy, emphasizing the need for decisionmakers to pay much attention to pandemics‐related uncertainty and the energy sector. ABSTRACT In this study, the photonic bandgap (PBG) film with tunable mechanical properties and photonic stop band was prepared by a simple and feasible approach. Colloid polymer spheres with a relatively large diameter (approximate Dn of 200 nm) and different glass transition temperatures ( Tg) were blended with small polystyrene (PS) latex ( Dn = 20 nm) and were subsequently casted on a substrate for 3 h at 50°C for self-assembly of the PBG film. The monodispersed polymer spheres were synthesized by soap-free emulsion polymerization in the boiling state. The Tg values of the spheres were predetermined based on the Fox equation, and designed to fall in the region of −34°C to 112°C. Small PS could also be synthesized by this approach using the comonomer, sodium p-styrenesulfonate (NaSS), to ensure the small diameter. The long-range ordered structure constructed by embedding the small PS in the PBG film was indirectly confirmed on the basis of SEM analysis, from which the monochromatic film color was determined based on Bragg's diffraction law. Tunable film color was achieved by adjusting the diameter of the spheres, as evaluated using UV-Vis. Tunable mechanical properties of the PBG film were also achieved by varying the Tg of the spheres or the filling ratio of small PS. Based on these approaches, the ultimate tensile strength could be tuned in the region between 0.39 to 4.7 Mpa, and the relative strain could be varied from 1236% to 16%, illustrative of the excellent deformability of the film. Furthermore, by variation of these two parameters, the film properties could be changed from typical elastomer behavior to brittle plastic polymer type behavior, greatly extending the prospective application fields. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Model Maker (MM) is a commercial rapid prototyping (RP) system using tiny jets to deposit thermoplastic materials onto a platform to build physical models and the associated support structures. Also, a cutter is employed to plane off the deposited surface in order to maintain smaller layer thickness and hence, model accuracy. The model's accuracy is mainly affected by the profile layer thickness. The interior filling does not affect the model accuracy or layer thickness very much, but it significantly affects the building time. Hence, a new interior fast filling of MM using a spraying nozzle is proposed in this paper. The detail design, construction, and evaluation of the new proposed fast interior-spraying process are presented. The key principle of the jet deposition rapid prototyping (RP) system is to deliver material through a jet and deposit the liquefied material onto a platform to build a physical model. Model Maker (MM) RP system is one of the jet deposition processes with the smallest slice thickness and better model accuracy. In order to maintain thinner layer thickness and model accuracy, a cutter is employed to plane off the deposited surface. The fabrication speed for MM models is extremely low because of the employment of the tiny jet and the cutting operation. The model interior filling does not affect the model accuracy very much but it does significantly affect the fabrication speed. Hence, a new flexible layer fabrication method is proposed in this paper to separate the fabrication processes of the profile and the interior, respectively, in order to maintain model accuracy and thinner slice thickness, and to accelerate the fabrication speed.
