6. Systematic Convolutional Low Density Generator Matrix Code

Abstract

In this paper, we propose a systematic low density generator matrix (LDGM) code ensemble, which is defined by the Bernoulli process. We prove that, under maximum likelihood (ML) decoding, the proposed ensemble can achieve the capacity of binary-input output symmetric (BIOS) memoryless channels in terms of bit error rate (BER). The proof technique reveals a new mechanism, different from lowering down frame error rate (FER), that the BER can be lowered down by assigning light codeword vectors to light information vectors. The finite length performance is analyzed by deriving an upper bound and a lower bound, both of which are shown to be tight in the high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) region. To improve the waterfall performance, we construct the systematic convolutional LDGM (SC-LDGM) codes by a random splitting process. The SC-LDGM codes are easily configurable in the sense that any rational code rate can be realized without complex optimization. As a universal construction, the main advantage of the SC-LDGM codes is their near-capacity performance in the waterfall region and predictable performance in the error-floor region that can be lowered down to any target as required by increasing the density of the uncoupled LDGM codes. 8. Successive Cancellation List Decoding of Semi-random Unit Memory Convolutional Codes

Abstract

We present in this paper a special class of unit memory convolutional codes (UMCCs), called semi-random UMCCs (SRUMCCs), where the information block is first encoded by a short block code and then transmitted in a block Markov (random) superposition manner. We propose a successive cancellation list decoding algorithm, by which a list of candidate codewords are generated serially until one passes an empirical divergence test instead of the conventional cyclic redundancy check (CRC). The threshold for testing the correctness of candidate codewords can be learned off-line based on the statistical behavior of the introduced empirical divergence function (EDF). The performance-complexity tradeoff and the performance-delay tradeoff can be achieved by adjusting the statistical threshold and the decoding window size. To analyze the performance, a closed-form upper bound and a simulated lower bound are derived. Simulation results verify our analysis and show that: 1) The proposed list decoding algorithm with empirical divergence test outperforms the sequential decoding in high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) region; 2) Taking the tail-biting convolutional codes (TBCC) as the basic codes, the proposed list decoding of SRUMCCs have comparable performance with the polar codes under the constraint of equivalent decoding delay., Comment: Submitted to IEEE Transactions on Information Theory. arXiv admin note: substantial text overlap with arXiv:1902.09808

9. Statistical Learning Aided Decoding of BMST of Tail-Biting Convolutional Code

Abstract

This paper is concerned with block Markov superposition transmission (BMST) of tail-biting convolutional code (TBCC). We propose a new decoding algorithm for BMST-TBCC, which integrates a serial list Viterbi algorithm (SLVA) with a soft check instead of conventional cyclic redundancy check (CRC). The basic idea is that, compared with an erroneous candidate codeword, the correct candidate codeword for the first sub-frame has less influence on the output of Viterbi algorithm for the second sub-frame. The threshold is then determined by statistical learning based on the introduced empirical divergence function. The numerical results illustrate that, under the constraint of equivalent decoding delay, the BMST-TBCC has comparable performance with the polar codes. As a result, BMST-TBCCs may find applications in the scenarios of the streaming ultra-reliable and low latency communication (URLLC) data services., Comment: 5 pages, 6 figures, submitted to ISIT2019

Abstract

Organic–inorganic hybrid metal halides are considered potential candidates for solid-state lighting (SSL) and display technology due to their unique photophysical properties, facile synthesis and low costs. Among them, In(III)-based metal halides stand out due to their broadband emission, low-toxicity, and remarkable stability. Herein, we developed a new lead-free metal halide of (DPG)3InBr6 (DPG = 1,3-diphenylguanidine), in which the isolated [InBr6]3− octahedrons are surrounded by an organic ligand with a photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 30.4%. To enhance this, Sb-doped (DPG)3InBr6 is prepared, which induces extra excitons, and produces broad band emission with a PLQY of 99.2% and a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 166 nm with a large Stokes shift of 232 nm. This broad emission band is derived from the triplet self-trapped excitons (STEs) out of the Pyramid SbBr5 and octahedral InBr6 with high Huang–Rhys factor (45.5). Together with highly efficient broadband emission and remarkable stability of Sb-doped (DPG)3InBr6, a high-performance white-light emitting diode (WLED) with a high color-rendering index (CRI) of 86.9 and a luminous efficacy of 30.9 lm W−1 is demonstrated, indicating its potential application in photonic devices. 43. Efficient Light Emission Modulation of Electron–Phonon Coupling in Sb3+-Doped 2D A2CdCl4by Varied Amine Molecules

Abstract

In recent years, two-dimensional (2D) perovskite materials have attracted much attention due to their excellent photoelectric properties. We successfully synthesized Sb3+-doped 2D cadmium-based organic amine hybrid perovskites (BAH)2CdCl4and (HDM)2CdCl4(BAH = benzylamine hydrochloride; HDM = hexamethylenediamine) by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD); in the former crystal, double BAH layers separate one CdClxlayer, while in the latter case, one biamine layer separates two CdClxlayers. The Sb doping resulted in a red shift in their absorption band edge in both samples and gave efficient broad-band orange-yellow emission bands at room temperature from the self-trapped exciton (STE) state of the triplet of Sb3+ions in the lattice. (BAH)2CdCl4:Sb3+gives a broad yellow emission band at 590 nm with a photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 84.6%, while the (HDM)2CdCl4:Sb3+system has an emission band at 570 nm with the PLQY at 99.97%, which occurs for samples at increasing growth temperatures with reduced impurity phase and improved crystalline phase purity and emission intensity due to the higher rigidity. The heterovalent substitution results in significant crystal field variations, which helps promote electron–phonon coupling, STE formation, and related emission. The high electron–phonon coupling coefficients in (BAH)2CdCl4can red-shift the STE band emission to a lower energy.

44. Stable Near-Infrared Light and Microcavity of the ZnTe Microbelt and Different Emission Behaviors

Abstract

Among a II–VI semiconductor, ZnTe is an inherent p-type semiconductor and exhibits strong emissions within the visible range, which make it suitable for various optoelectronic applications. Here, we have obtained the ZnTe- and Fe-doped ZnTe microbelt by CVD growth. Near-infrared (NIR) luminescence from 600 to 1000 nm can be seen in the PL emission spectra of ZnTe microstructure excited by CW laser, along with the appearance of multimode peaks because of the optical microcavity. The NIR luminescence in ZnTe comes from the presence of Zn vacancies due to polymorphous transition of ZnTe in the vapor solid mechanism. The PL emission under femtosecond pulsed laser excitation produces a low-threshold laser line which is near the band edge of the ZnTe microbelt, which is quite different from the continuous wave excitation PL spectrum. The time of photon–matter interaction and the fast and slow coherent recombination of exciton and defect states determine their emission distribution. As the excitation pulse changes, the different optical behaviors generated by the semiconductor may be applied in many photonic devices. We also found that in addition to the two sides of the microbelt that form the FP cavity in the pure ZnTe microbelt, the interface in the doped ZnTe microbelt can also form the FP cavity together with one side of the microbelt; the presence of interface is due to the presence of impurities.
