Abstract

In this document, the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and phasor measurement unit (PMU) measurement chain modeling will be studied, where the measurement error sources of each component in the SCADA and PMU measurement chains and the reasons leading to measurement errors exhibiting non-zero-mean, non-Gaussian, and time-varying statistical characteristic are summarized and analyzed. This document provides a few equations, figures, and discussions about the details of the SCADA and PMU measurement error chain modeling, which are intended to facilitate the understanding of how the measurement errors are designed for each component in the SCADA and PMU measurement chains. The measurement chain models described here are also used for synthesizing measurement errors with realistic characteristics in simulation cases to test the developed algorithms or methodologies.

25. Effects of specially-shaped packet materials on moisture retention for cigarettes.

Abstract

In order to investigate the effect of specially-shaped packet materials on the moisture retention for cigarettes, the isothermal adsorption curves of cut tobacco, cigarette paper, tipping paper, sulfate paper, filter rod and packet materials were established post production. The correlation curves between water activity and moisture contents were fitted by the DLP model equation, and the fitting results were verified. According to the law of mass conservation and the fitting results of the DLP equation, a prediction method for the moisture content in each material used in the specially-shaped packet was constructed, and a verification test of the method was conducted. The results showed that: 1) The determination coefficients of the fitting results were all higher than 0.999 0 by using the DLP model equation, and the average relative errors of the measured and predicted moisture contents were all less than 5%, indicating that the equation was suitable for evaluating the performance of the materials. 2) Under the condition of 90% relative humidity, the specially-shaped cigarette packet with a good moisture sealing degree could better isolate the influence of the environmental humidity within 15 days. 3) The same cigarettes were packed in the packets balanced at different relative humidity, and the moisture content in the packet system could reach full equilibrium after 18 days. 4) The prediction method optimized with the law of conservation of mass and the fitting results of the DLP model equation was accurate for the moisture content in each of the material in the packet system. The packets with different moisture contents in the materials had different effects on cut tobacco, filter rod, and sulfate paper, which indicated that the moisture content in cigarettes could meet the quality requirements by controlling the moisture contents in the materials within a reasonable time range. 28. A Scalable PDC Placement Technique for Fast and Resilient Monitoring of Large Power Grids

Abstract

The wide-area measurement system (WAMS) is a key enabler of real-time monitoring of power grids. The essential goals of WAMS design are fast and resilient data transfer from phasor measurement units (PMU) to phasor data concentrators (PDC). We propose a scalable two-stage PDC placement technique for minimizing the end-to-end delay while maintaining resiliency. In the prescreening stage, the plausible candidates of PDC configurations are identified based on a graph theory-based multimedian function (MMF). In this article, a computationally efficient meta-heuristic algorithm is used to address scalability. In the candidate selection stage, two different algorithms, namely, Suurballe's and Dijkstra's, are employed to identify the best of those plausible PDC configurations as the final design. This technique not only minimizes the hop paths between PMUs and PDCs, but also ensures network resiliency against single PMU, PDC, or communication link failure by incorporating the roles of PMUs in power grid observability into routing policy. Simulation results on the IEEE 57-bus test power system and the 2000-bus test power system demonstrate the effectiveness and scalability of the proposed technique.
