We conducted a questionnaire survey using the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia (TSK) and the Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS). Patients evaluated pain using a visual analogue scale. We used one-way ANOVA and logistic multiple regression analysis to identify the relevant influencing factors.Results: The TSK score was (41.88± 4.46) in 85 postoperative CSM patients, 65 males and 20 females, and there were 31 patients under 40 years old, 54 patients over 40 years old, 58 patients below high school education and 27 patients above high school education, and among them, 81.17% were diagnosed with kinesiophobia. Age was positively correlated with TSK score (r = 0.379, P < 0.05) and therefore a risk factor for kinesiophobia (OR = 1.941, 95% CI = 1.021– 3.690). Additionally, the duration of the disease was a protective factor for kinesiophobia (OR = 0.179, 95% CI = 0.053– 0.605).Conclusion: Patients with CSM were at high risk of developing kinesiophobia postoperatively. The number of pregnancies, number of miscarriages, human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) before curettage, duration of medication before UAE, and hemorrhage after UAE were not significantly correlated with the occurrence of moderate to severe pain after UAE (P > 0.05). The volume of gestational sac and days of gestation were responsible for the occurrence of moderate to severe pain after UAE (P < 0.05), with the former being the main influencing factor, and these explained 8.3% of the total variance.Conclusion: Moderate to severe pain occurred commonly in patients with CSP undergoing UAE. In clinical care of patients with CSP who are going to undergo UAE, data concerning the volume of gestational sac and days of gestation should be considered for anticipatory pain assessment, and interventions should be implemented as early as possible to reduce the pain and improve the experience of care.Keywords: cesarean scar pregnancy, uterine artery embolization, moderate to severe pain, research

In the present study, the hope levels and resilience in the patients were moderate, with an average score of (34.93 ± 5.45) and (69.36 ± 15.52), respectively. A significant hurdle in cancer treatment arises from multidrug resistance (MDR), often due to overexpression of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters like ABCB1 and/or ABCG2 in cancer cells. These transporters actively diminish the efficacy of cytotoxic drugs by facilitating ATP hydrolysis-dependent drug efflux and reducing intracellular drug accumulation in cancer cells. Addressing multidrug-resistant cancers poses a significant challenge due to the lack of approved treatments, prompting the exploration of alternative avenues like drug repurposing (also referred to as drug repositioning) of molecularly targeted agents to reverse MDR-mediated by ABCB1 and/or ABCG2 in multidrug-resistant cancer cells. Epertinib, a potent inhibitor of EGFR and HER2 currently in clinical trials for solid tumors, was investigated for its potential to resensitize ABCB1- and ABCG2-overexpressing multidrug-resistant cancer cells to chemotherapeutic agents. Our findings reveal that at sub-toxic, submicromolar concentrations, epertinib restores the sensitivity of multidrug-resistant cancer cells to cytotoxic drugs in a concentration-dependent manner. The results demonstrate that epertinib enhances drug-induced apoptosis in these cancer cells by impeding the drug-efflux function of ABCB1 and ABCG2 without altering their expression. ATPase activity and molecular docking were employed to reveal potential interaction sites between epertinib and the drug-binding pockets of ABCB1 and ABCG2. In summary, our study demonstrates an additional pharmacological capability of epertinib against the activity of ABCB1 and ABCG2. Background: This study was designed to develop an innovative classification and guidance system for renal hilar tumors and to assess the safety and effectiveness of robot-assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN) for managing such tumors., Methods: A total of 179 patients undergoing RAPN for renal hilar tumors were retrospectively reviewed. A novel classification system with surgical techniques was introduced and the perioperative features, tumor characteristics, and the efficacy and safety of RAPN were compared within subgroups., Results: We classified the tumors according to our novel system as follows: 131 Type I, 35 Type II, and 13 Type III. However, Type III had higher median R.E.N.A.L., PADUA, and ROADS scores compared with the others (all p < 0.001), indicating increased operative complexity and higher estimated blood loss [180.00 (115.00-215.00) ml]. Operative outcomes revealed significant disparities between Type III and the others, with longer operative times [165.00 (145.00-200.50) min], warm ischemia times [24.00 (21.50-30.50) min], tumor resection times [13.00 (12.00-15.50) min], and incision closure times [22.00 (20.00-23.50) min] (all p < 0.005). Postoperative outcomes also showed significant differences, with longer durations of drain removal (77.08 ± 18.16 h) and hospitalization for Type III [5.00 (5.00-6.00) d] (all p < 0.05). Additionally, Type I had a larger tumor diameter than the others (p = 0.009) and pT stage differed significantly between the subtypes (p = 0.020)., Conclusions: The novel renal hilar tumor classification system is capable of differentiating the surgical difficulty of RAPN and further offers personalized surgical steps tailored to each specific classification. Regulatory T cells (Tregs) are important players in the tumor microenvironment. However, the mechanisms behind their immunosuppressive effects are poorly understood. We found that CCR6-CCL20 activity in tumor-infiltrating Tregs is associated with greater glycolytic activity and ablation of Ccr6 reduced glycolysis and lactic acid production while increasing compensatory glutamine metabolism. Immunosuppressive activity towards CD8+ T cells was abrogated in Ccr6-/- Tregs due to reduction in activation-induced glycolysis. Furthermore, Ccr6-/- mice exhibited improved survival across multiple tumor models compared to wildtype mice, and Treg and CD8+ T-cell depletion abrogated the improvement. In addition, Ccr6 ablation further promoted the efficacy of anti-PD-1 therapy in a preclinical glioma model. Follow-up knockdown of Ccl20 with siRNA also demonstrated improvement in antitumor efficacy. Our results unveil CCR6 as a marker and regulator of Treg-induced immunosuppression and identify approaches to target the metabolic determinants of Treg immunosuppressive activity.

Additive engineering, with its excellent ability to passivate bulk or surface perovskite defects, has become a common strategy to improve the performance and stability of perovskite solar cells (PVSCs). Among the various additives reported so far, ammonium salts are considered an important branch. It is worth noting that although both ammonium-based additives (R-NH 3 + ) and amine-based additives (R-NH 2 ) are derivatives of ammonia (NH 3 ), the functions of the two can be easily confused due to their structural similarities. Moreover, there is no comprehensive comparative analysis of them in the literature. Here, the differences between phenethylammonium iodide (PEA + ) and phenethylamine (PEA) additives are revealed experimentally and theoretically. The results clearly show that PEA outperforms PEA + in terms of device performance and stability based on the following three factors: i) PEA's defect passivation capability is superior to that of PEA + ; ii) PEA has better hydrophobicity to hinder water ingress; and iii) PEA completely improves the stability of PVSCs by enhancing thermal stability and inhibiting iodide migration in perovskite more effectively than PEA + . As a result, the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of the inverted methylammonium triiodide (MAPbI 3 ) device using PEA increases by ≈15% to over 21%. More importantly, this device exhibits greater ability to prevent water invasion, thermal-induce degradation, and inhibit iodide ion migration, resulting in better long-term stability., (© 2024 Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)

Introduction: Children's diets in the U.S. typically fail to meet dietary recommendations, contributing to associated adverse health outcomes. The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act (HHFKA) of 2010 required the U.S. government to update nutrition standards for school meals to align with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGAs). This study estimates the evolving impact of substituting school-prepared food for home-prepared food on overall daily diet quality and by subcomponents of diet quality. Subgroup analyses are performed by race/ethnicity and income., Methods: Two, nonconsecutive days of dietary recall data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2005-March 2020) are used to calculate schoolchildren's Healthy Eating Index (HEI)-2020 scores. The study includes children with complete two-day dietary intakes who attend kindergarten through twelfth grade in a school offering lunch. An individual-level fixed effects regression is employed to examine the relationship of school food consumption on HEI-2020 scores before and after HHFKA-mandated changes in nutrition standards. Analyses were conducted on September 23, 2023., Results: Prior to changes in standards (2005-2008), school food did not impact diet quality within the overall group of children. In 2009-2012, positive associations between school food and diet quality emerged for low-income students and for non-Hispanic Black students. By 2013-2020, improvements were seen across all groups. The association between school food and diet quality was most attributable to more favorable consumption of dairy, fruit, whole grains, refined grains, added sugars and saturated fats., Conclusions: HHFKA-based nutrition standards were associated with beneficial dietary changes and reduced dietary disparities for children across diverse backgrounds., (Copyright © 2024 The Authors. Tin (Sn)-based perovskites are being investigated in many optoelectronic applications given their similar valence electron configuration to that of lead-based perovskites and the potential environmental hazards of lead-based perovskites. However, the formation of high-quality Sn-based perovskite films faces several challenges, mainly due to the easy oxidation of Sn 2+ to Sn 4+ and the fast crystallization rate. Here, to develop an environmentally friendly process for Sn-based perovskite fabrication, a series of natural antioxidants are studied as additives and ascorbic acid (VitC) is found to have a superior ability to inhibit the oxidation problem. A common cyclic molecule, 18-Crown-6, is further added as a second additive, which synergizes with VitC to significantly reduce the nonradiative recombination pathways in the PEA 2 SnI 4 film. This synergistic effect greatly improves the performance of 2D red Sn-based PeLED, with a maximum external quantum efficiency of 1.87% (≈9 times that of the pristine device), a purer color, and better bias stability. This work demonstrates the potential of the dual-additive approach in enhancing the performance of 2D Sn-based PeLEDs, while the use of these environmentally friendly additives contributes to their future sustainability., (© 2024 Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)

Declining estrogen production in postmenopausal females causes osteoporosis in which the resorption of bone exceeds the increase in bone formation. Although clinical drugs are currently available for the treatment of osteoporosis, sustained medication use is accompanied by serious side effects. Corydalis bungeana Herba, a famous traditional Chinese herb listed in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia Commission, constitutes various traditional Chinese Medicine prescriptions, which date back to thousands of years. One of the primary active components of C. bungeana Turcz. is Corynoline (Cor), a plant isoquinoline alkaloid derived from the Corydalis species, which possesses bone metabolism disease therapeutic potential. The study aimed at exploring the effects as well as mechanisms of Cor on osteoclast formation and bone resorption. TRAcP staining, F-actin belt formation, and pit formation were employed for assessing the osteoclast function. Western blot, qPCR, network pharmacology, and docking analyses were used for analyzing the expression of osteoclast-associated genes and related signaling pathways. The study focused on investigating how Cor affected OVX-induced trabecular bone loss by using a mouse model. Cor could weaken osteoclast formation and function by affecting the biological receptor activators of NF-κB and its ligand at various concentrations. Mechanistically, Cor inhibited the NF-κB activation, and the MAPKs pathway stimulated by RANKL. Besides, Cor enhanced the protein stability of the Nrf2, which effectively abolished the RANKL-stimulated ROS generation. According to an OVX mouse model, Cor functions in restoring bone mass, improving microarchitecture, and reducing the ROS levels in the distal femurs, which corroborated with its in vitro antiosteoclastogenic effect. The present study indicates that Cor may restrain osteoclast formation and bone loss by modulating NF-κB/MAPKs and Nrf2 signaling pathways. Cor was shown to be a potential drug candidate that can be utilized for the treatment of osteoporosis.

In this study, a combination of X-ray excited optical luminescence (XEOL), time-resolved XEOL (TR-XEOL) and the Hanbury-Brown and Twiss (HB-T) interferometer at the Taiwan Photon Source (TPS) 23A X-ray nanoprobe beamline for exploring quantum materials is demonstrated. On the basis of the excellent spatial resolution rendered using a nano-focused beam, emission distributions of artificial micro-diamonds can be obtained by XEOL maps, and featured emission peaks of a selected local area can be obtained by XEOL spectra. The hybrid bunch mode of the TPS not only provides a sufficiently high peak power density for experiments at each beamline but also permits high-quality temporal domain (∼200 ns) measurements for investigating luminescence dynamics. From TR-XEOL measurements, the decay lifetime of micro-diamonds is determined to be approximately 16 ns. Furthermore, the XEOL spectra of artificial micro-diamonds can be investigated by the HB-T interferometer to identify properties of single-photon sources. The unprecedented strategy of combining XEOL, TR-XEOL and the HB-T interferometer at the X-ray nanoprobe beamline will open new avenues with significant characterization abilities for unraveling the emission mechanisms of single-photon sources for quantum materials., (open access.)

In recent years, organic photonic field-effect transistors have made remarkable progress with the rapid development of conjugated polycrystalline materials. Liquid crystals, with their smooth surface, defined layer thickness, and crystalline structures, are commonly used for these advantages. In this work, a series of smectic liquid crystalline molecules, 2,9-didecyl-dinaphtho-thienothiophene (C10-DNTT), 2,7-didecyl-benzothieno-benzothiopene (C10-BTBT), 3,9-didecyl-dinaphtho-thiophene (C10-DNT), and didecyl-sexithiophene (C10-6T), have been used in photonic transistor memory, functioning as both hole-transport channels and electron traps to investigate systematically the reasons and mechanisms behind the memory behavior of smectic liquid crystals. After thermal annealing, C10-BTBT and C10-6T/C10-DNTT are homeotropically aligned from the smectic A and smectic X phases, respectively. The 3D-ordered structure of these smectic-aligned crystals contributed to efficient photowriting and electrical erasing processes. Among them, the device performance of C10-BTBT was particularly significant, with a memory window of 21 V. The memory ratio could reach 1.5 × 10 6 and maintain a memory ratio of over 3 orders after 10,000 s, contributing to its smectic A structure. Through the research, we confirmed the memory and light/bias-gated behaviors of these smectic liquid crystalline molecules, attributing them to reversible molecular conformation transitions and the inherent structural inhomogeneity inside the polycrystalline channel layer.

Background: Mechanically ventilated Intensive Care Unit (ICU) patients often require wrist restraints, contributing to immobility and agitation, over-sedation, and delirium. The Exersides ® Refraint ® (Healthy Design, LLC), a novel restraint alternative, may be safe and facilitate greater mobility than traditional restraints., Objective: This National Institutes of Health Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Program Grant-funded single-site Phase I feasibility study evaluated Exersides ® safety and feasibility in anticipation of a multi-site Phase II randomized controlled trial (RCT)., Methods: In two academic ICUs, mechanically ventilated adults ⩾25 years old who were non-comatose, required restraints and had an expected stay of ⩾2 days were enrolled to wear Exersides ® and traditional wrist restraints for 4 h on day 1, in a randomized order, and in the reverse order on day 2. Main outcomes were Exersides ® safety (i.e., patient/clinician lacerations/injuries), feasibility (i.e., ⩾90% of required data collected), and patient/family/clinician feedback., Results: Eight patients were enrolled; one no longer required restraints at initiation, yielding seven subjects (median [interquartile range (IQR)] age 65 [55, 70] years, 86% men). All seven wore Exersides ®, averaging (SD) 2.5 (1.0) hours per session, with no safety events reported. Across restraint time periods, 92% and 100% of Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scale (RASS) and wrist actigraphy data, respectively, were collected. Feedback was positive (more movement and comfortable than traditional restraints) and constructive (bulky, intimidating to apply)., Conclusions: This pilot study provided key safety and feasibility data for a Phase II RCT evaluating Exersides ® versus traditional wrist restraints. Background: With improving living standards, the incidence of cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) has become increasingly high., Objective: The study aims to explore the effect of diversified health-promoting models on rehabilitation exercises in patients with CSM after an operation., Method: This was a randomized controlled trial, wherein 107 patients with CSM treated by neurosurgery were selected as the subjects. Of those, 52 patients in the control group adopted the conventional health-promoting model, while the remaining 55 patients in the intervention group adopted diversified health-promoting models. The effect of rehabilitation exercises in the two groups was evaluated according to the self-efficacy rehabilitation outcome scale, grip strength measurement of the affected limb, and Barthel index., Results: At Day 3 post-operation and before discharge, the self-efficacy management of rehabilitation exercises in the intervention group was better than that of the control group (P< 0.05). The grip strength measurement of the affected limb, Japanese Orthopedic Association score of the cervical vertebra, and Barthel index of the two groups at Day 3 post-operation were lower than before the intervention and were not statistically significant (P> 0.05). However, these three items before discharge were improved when compared with those of before intervention and were statistically significant (P< 0.05)., Conclusion: Postoperative rehabilitation exercises guided by the diversified health-promoting models for patients with CSM can improve the patients' self-efficacy management ability in rehabilitation exercises, help improve grip strength, and promote the recovery of cervical vertebra function, thereby improving the patients' quality of life.

We report a theoretical investigation of X-ray back diffraction at grazing incidence. Based on the framework of the dynamical theory of X-ray diffraction, the grazing incidence for Si (12 4 0) back diffraction is taken as an example to resolve the eigenvalue problem inside the crystal. The dispersion surface and the resulting diffraction intensities are strongly affected by the miscut angle as well as the diffraction geometry of grazing incidence. The kinematical relationship between the incident angle and the miscut angle is well explained by Snell's law. While only the two-beam diffraction is considered, our treatment can be further extended to include the cases for multiple diffractions as well.

Organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites have garnered significant attention in optoelectronics owing to their outstanding tunable optical characteristics. Controlled growth of perovskite nanocrystals from solutions is key for controlling the emission intensity and photoluminescence lifetime of perovskites. In particular, most studies have focused on controlling the crystallization of perovskite through chemical treatment using chelating ligands or physical treatment via antisolvent diffusion, and there exists a trade-off between the photoluminescence intensity and lifetime of perovskites. Herein, a selective solvent vapor-assisted crystallization with the aid of a functional polymer, which nanoscale perovskite crystals are grown andante from precursor solution, is presented for tuning the crystallization and optical properties of a common halide perovskite, methylammonium lead bromide (MAPbBr 3 ). The proposed method here produces perovskite nanocrystals in the range of 200-300 nm. The spin-coated thin film formed from the perovskite solution exhibits strong green photoluminescence with a long lifetime. The effects of the functional group and polymer dosage on the crystallization of MAPbBr 3 are systematically investigated, and the crystallization mechanism is explained based on a modified LaMer model. Osteoporosis (OP) is typically brought on by disruption of bone homeostasis. Excessive oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction are believed to be the primary mechanisms underlying this disorder. Therefore, in order to restore bone homeostasis effectively, targeted treatment of oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction is necessary. Cinnamaldehyde (CIN), a small molecule that acts as an agonist for the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor (Nrf2), has been found to possess antiapoptotic, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. We found that CIN, while rescuing apoptosis, can also reduce the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) to improve mitochondrial dysfunction and thus restore the osteogenic differentiation potential of BMSCs disrupted by hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) exposure. The role of CIN was preliminarily considered to be a consequence of Nrf2/HO-1 axis activation. The ovariectomized mice model further demonstrated that CIN treatment ameliorated oxidative stress in vivo , partially reversing OVX-induced bone loss. This improvement was seen in the trabecular microarchitecture and bone biochemical indices. However, when ML385 was concurrently injected with CIN, the positive effects of CIN were largely blocked. In conclusion, this study sheds light on the intrinsic mechanisms by which CIN regulates BMSCs and highlights the potential therapeutic applications of these findings in the treatment of osteoporosis.

Purpose: To prospectively compare the uptake of 68 Ga-prostate specific membrane antigen ( 68 Ga-PSMA)-11 and 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography ( 18 F-FDG PET/CT) in upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) and investigate the correlation between radiological parameters and pathological features of UTUC., Methods: Clinicopathologic and imaging data were collected from 10 UTUC patients who underwent preoperative 68 Ga-PSMA-11 and 18 F-FDG PET/CT scans. The diagnostic capabilities of both imaging techniques were analyzed and compared in UTUC. Angiogenesis in the malignancies was assessed using Chalkley counting and the expression of folate hydrolase 1 (FOLH1) and glucose transporter 1 (GLUT1) in UTUC were evaluated in the surgical specimens. Double immunofluorescence staining of PSMA and CD34 was used to examine tumor neovascularization. Tracer uptake and expression were compared and explored. Additionally, 10 patients with clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) were included for prospective, comparative research., Results: Ten UTUC patients with 12 malignant lesions and another 10 ccRCC patients were included. 18 F-FDG PET/CT demonstrated a more effective detection of UTUC foci compared to 68 Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT (the SUV max of 18.48 ± 6.73 vs. 4.38 ± 1.45, P < 0.01). Immunohistochemical analysis revealed a statistically significant difference in the expression of PSMA and GLUT1 in UTUC (P = 0.048), with higher pathological grades showing more intense GLUT1 staining than PSMA (75% vs. 12.5%). The Chalkley counting of angiogenesis in ccRCC was significantly higher than that in UTUC (229.34 vs. 71.67), which was proportional to 68 Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT SUV max (both P < 0.05)., Conclusion: 18 F-FDG PET/CT holds better clinical potential for evaluating UTUC and detecting lymph node metastasis compared to 68 Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT, likely due to the relatively scant expression of FOLH1 in tumor neovascular endothelium while the abundant expression of GLUT1 in malignancy. Objectives: Accurate preoperative prediction of adverse pathology is crucial for treatment planning of renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Previous studies have emphasized the potential of prostate-specific membrane antigen positron emission tomography / computed tomography (PSMA PET/CT) in differentiating between benign and malignant localized renal tumors. However, there is a scarcity of case reports elucidating the identification of aggressive pathological features using PET/CT. Our study was designed to prospectively compare the diagnostic value of enhanced CT, 68Ga-PSMA-11 and 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) PET/CT in clear-cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) with necrosis or sarcomatoid or rhabdoid differentiation., Materials and Methods: A prospective case series of patients with a newly diagnosed renal mass who underwent enhanced CT, 68Ga-PSMA-11 and 18F-FDG PET/CT within 30 days prior to nephrectomy was included. Complete preoperative and postoperative clinicopathological data were recorded. Patients who received neoadjuvant targeted therapy, declined enhanced CT or PET/CT scanning, refused surgical treatment or had non-ccRCC pathological indications were excluded. Radiological parameters were compared within subgroups of pathological characteristics. Bonferroni corrections were used to adjust for multiple testing and statistical significance was set at a p-value less than 0.017., Results: Seventy-two patients were available for the final analysis. Enhanced CT demonstrated poor performance in identifying necrosis, sarcomatoid or rhabdoid differentiation and adverse pathology (all P > 0.05). The maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) of 68Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT was more effective than 18F-FDG PET/CT in identifying tumor necrosis and adverse pathology, with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.85 (cutoff value=25.26, p<0.001; Delong test z=2.709, p=0.007) for tumor necrosis and AUC of 0.90 (cutoff value=25.26, p<0.001; Delong test z=3.433, p<0.001) for adverse pathology. However, no significant statistical difference was found between 68Ga-PSMA-11 and 18F-FDG PET/CT in predicting sarcomatoid or rhabdoid feature (AUC of 0.91 vs.0.75, Delong test z=1.998, p=0.046). Subgroup analyses based on age, sex, tumor location, maximal diameter, stage and WHO/ISUP grade demonstrated that 68Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT SUVmax had a significant predictive value for adverse pathology. Enhanced CT value and SUVmax demonstrated strong reliability [intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) > 0.80], indicating a robust correlation., Conclusions: 68Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT demonstrates distinct advantages in identifying aggressive pathological features of primary ccRCC when compared to enhanced CT and 18F-FDG PET/CT. Cr-doped inorganic materials are pivotal in developing near-infrared optical materials; however, multivalent Cr ions and their respective distribution in the materials remain ambiguous. Herein, a series of Li(Sc 1- x In x )O 2 :Cr phosphors containing both Cr 3+ /Cr 6+ ions are prepared. High-resolution synchrotron X-ray diffraction (XRD) reveals two similar phases in Li(Sc 1 -x In x )O 2 . Raman spectra further confirm distinct scattering patterns for the two end-member compositions, corroborating the findings from the synchrotron XRD analysis. Cr K -edge X-ray absorption near-edge structure and extended X-ray absorption fine structure demonstrate that most Cr ions in the as-prepared samples are Cr 6+ , while Cr 3+ becomes dominant after washing with water. Moreover, the source and distribution of Cr 3+ and Cr 6+ ions in the as-prepared and washed samples are revealed through X-ray fluorescence and X-ray excited optical luminescence techniques, which indicate that Cr 6+ ions aggregate within the sample, while Cr 3+ ions are evenly distributed. Photoluminescence, decay curves, and line shape analyses are implemented to resolve the electron-lattice interactions, and the corresponding mechanisms are provided to explain the asymmetry between photoluminescence and photoluminescence excitation spectra. Overall, this study provides valuable insights into the distribution of low-concentration multivalence ions in solid-state materials and offers a deeper understanding of the approaches to precisely resolve the subtle changes in the crystal structure.

The vision-inspired artificial neural network based on optical synapses has drawn a tremendous amount of attention for emulating biological senses. Although photoexcitation-induced synaptic functionalities have been widely studied, optical habituation via the photoinhibitory pathway is yet to be demonstrated for sophisticated biomimetic visual adaptive systems. Here, the first optical neuromorphic block copolymer (BCP) phototransistor is demonstrated as an all-optical operation responding to various wavelengths, fulfilling photoassisted dynamic learning/forgetting cycles via optical potentiation without gate bias. The polyfluorene BCPs were precisely designed to enable wavelength-adaptive responses, benefiting from interfacial semiconductor/electret morphology and the crystallinity/electron affinity of the BCPs. Notably, this is the first work to simultaneously exhibit fully light-controlled short- and long-term memory based on organic material systems. The device presents a high current contrast above 100-fold and long-term retention over 10 4 s. As a proof-of-concept for neural networks, a 6 × 6 array of photosynapses performed outstanding visual pattern learning/forgetting with high accuracy. This study exploits the design strategy of a conjugated BCP electret to unleash the full potential of wavelength-adaptive visual neuroplasticity transitions. It provides an effective architecture for designing high-performance and high-storage capacity required applications in next-generation neuromorphic systems.

In the present study, synchrotron-based X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and X-ray excited optical luminescence (XEOL) have been used to investigate the induced defect states in metal oxide nanomaterials. Specifically, two synthesis approaches have been followed to develop unique nano-sized peanut-shaped (N-ZnO) nanostructures and micron-sized hexagonal rods (M-ZnO). XANES analysis at the Zn K-edge revealed the presence of defect states with a divalent oxidation state of zinc (Zn 2+ ) in a tetrahedral structure. Furthermore, XAS measurements performed at the Zn L 3,2 -edge and O K-edge confirm higher oxygen-related defects in M-ZnO, while N-ZnO appeared to have a higher concentration of surface defects due to size confinement. Moreover, the in-line XEOL and time dependent-XEOL measurements exposed the radiative excitonic recombination phenomena occurring in the band-tailing region as a function of absorption length, X-ray energy excitation, and time. Based on the chronology developed in the defect state improvement, a possible energy band diagram is proposed to accurately locate the defect states in the two systems. Furthermore, the increased absorption intensity at the Zn L 3,2 -edge and the O K-edge under the UV lamp suggests delayed recombination of electrons and holes, highlighting their potential use as photo catalysts. The photocatalytic activity degrading the rhodamine B dye established M-ZnO as a superior catalyst with a rapid degradation rate and significant mineralization. Overall, this work provides valuable insights into ZnO defect states and provides a foundation for efficient advanced materials for environmental or other optoelectronic applications.

Current vaccine efforts to combat SARS-CoV-2 are focused on the whole spike protein administered as mRNA, viral vector, or protein subunit. However, the SARS-CoV-2 receptor-binding domain (RBD) is the immunodominant portion of the spike protein, accounting for 90% of serum neutralizing activity. In this study, we constructed several versions of RBD and together with aluminum hydroxide or DDA (dimethyldioctadecylammonium bromide)/TDB (d-(+)-trehalose 6,6'-dibehenate) adjuvant evaluated immunogenicity in mice. We generated human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 knock-in mice to evaluate vaccine efficacy in vivo following viral challenge. We found that 1) subdomain (SD)1 was essential for the RBD to elicit maximal immunogenicity; 2) RBDSD1 produced in mammalian HEK cells elicited better immunogenicity than did protein produced in insect or yeast cells; 3) RBDSD1 combined with the CD4 Th1 adjuvant DDA/TDB produced higher neutralizing Ab responses and stronger CD4 T cell responses than did aluminum hydroxide; 4) addition of monomeric human Fc receptor to RBDSD1 (RBDSD1Fc) significantly enhanced immunogenicity and neutralizing Ab titers; 5) the Beta version of RBDSD1Fc provided a broad range of cross-neutralization to multiple antigenic variants of concern, including Omicron; and 6) the Beta version of RBDSD1Fc with DDA/TDB provided complete protection against virus challenge in the knock-in mouse model. Quasi-2D perovskites have recently flourished in the field of luminescence due to the quantum-confinement effect and the efficient energy transfer between different n phases resulting in exceptional optical properties. However, owing to the lower conductivity and poor charge injection, quasi-2D perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) typically suffer from low brightness and high-efficiency roll-off at high current densities compared to 3D perovskite-based PeLEDs, which is undoubtedly one of the most critical issues in this field. In this work, quasi-2D PeLEDs with high brightness, reduced trap density, and low-efficiency roll-off are successfully demonstrated by introducing a thin layer of conductive phosphine oxide at the perovskite/electron transport layer interface. The results surprisingly show that this additional layer does not improve the energy transfer between multiple quasi-2D phases in the perovskite film, but purely improves the electronic properties of the perovskite interface. On the one hand, it passivates the surface defects of the perovskite film; on the other hand, it promotes electron injection and prevents hole leakage across this interface. As a result, the modified quasi-2D pure Cs-based device shows a maximum brightness of > 70,000 cd m -2 (twice that of the control device), a maximum external quantum efficiency (EQE) of > 10% and a much lower efficiency roll-off at high bias voltages., (© 2023 The Authors. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the semantic computed tomography (CT) features associated with BRCA1-associated protein 1 (BAP1) and/or tumor protein p53 (TP53) mutation in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC)., Methods and Materials: Clinical characteristics and gene mutation information of 336 ccRCC patients were retrieved from The Cancer Genome Atlas-Kidney Renal Clear Cell Carcinoma database (TCGA-KIRC). Kaplan-Meier analysis was performed to examine prognosis by gene mutation. The CT imaging data and gene mutation information of 156 ccRCC patients treated between January 2019 and January 2021 (the training cohort) were retrospectively analyzed. The CT imaging information and gene mutation data of 123 patients with ccRCC were downloaded from The Cancer Imaging Archive and The Cancer Genome Atlas database (the external validation cohort). Univariate Chi-square test and multivariate binary logistic regression analysis were performed to determine predictors of gene mutation; a nomogram was developed using these predictors. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis and the Hosmer-Lemeshow test were performed to evaluate the performance of the nomogram., Results: Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that BAP1 and/or TP53 mutation was significantly correlated with worse survival outcome. Multivariate binary logistic regression analysis indicated ill-defined margin (P = .001), spiculated margin (P = .018), renal vein invasion (P = .002), and renal pelvis invasion (P = .001) were independent predictors of BAP1 and/or TP53 mutation. A nomogram containing these 4 semantic CT features was constructed; the area under the receiver operating characteristic curves was 0.872 (95% CI, 0.809-0.920). The Hosmer-Lemeshow test showed acceptable goodness-of-fit for the nomogram (X 2  = 1.194, P = .742). The nomogram was validated in the validation cohort; it showed good accuracy (area under the receiving operating characteristic curve = 0.819, 95% CI, 0.740-0.883) and was well calibrated (X 2  = 3.934, P = .559)., Conclusions: Semantic CT features are a potential and promising method for predicting BAP1 and/or TP53 mutation status in ccRCC patients., (Copyright © 2023 Elsevier Inc. This paper proposes the design of a 360° map establishment and real-time simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) algorithm based on equirectangular projection. All equirectangular projection images with an aspect ratio of 2:1 are supported for input image types of the proposed system, allowing an unlimited number and arrangement of cameras. Firstly, the proposed system uses dual back-to-back fisheye cameras to capture 360° images, followed by the adoption of the perspective transformation with any yaw degree given to shrink the feature extraction area in order to reduce the computational time, as well as retain the 360° field of view. Secondly, the oriented fast and rotated brief (ORB) feature points extracted from perspective images with a GPU acceleration are used for tracking, mapping, and camera pose estimation in the system. The 360° binary map supports the functions of saving, loading, and online updating to enhance the flexibility, convenience, and stability of the 360° system. The proposed system is also implemented on an nVidia Jetson TX2 embedded platform with 1% accumulated RMS error of 250 m. The average performance of the proposed system achieves 20 frames per second (FPS) in the case with a single-fisheye camera of resolution 1024 × 768, and the system performs panoramic stitching and blending under 1416 × 708 resolution from a dual-fisheye camera at the same time.

In Industry 4.0, automation is a critical requirement for mechanical production. This study proposes a computer vision-based method to capture images of rotating tools and detect defects without the need to stop the machine in question. The study uses frontal lighting to capture images of the rotating tools and employs scale-invariant feature transform (SIFT) to identify features of the tool images. Random sample consensus (RANSAC) is then used to obtain homography information, allowing us to stitch the images together. The modified YOLOv4 algorithm is then applied to the stitched image to detect any surface defects on the tool. The entire tool image is divided into multiple patch images, and each patch image is detected separately. The results show that the modified YOLOv4 algorithm has a recall rate of 98.7% and a precision rate of 97.3%, and the defect detection process takes approximately 7.6 s to complete for each stitched image.

Two-dimensional (2D) tin (Sn)-based perovskites have recently received increasing research attention for perovskite transistor application. Although some progress is made, Sn-based perovskites have long suffered from easy oxidation from Sn 2+ to Sn 4+ , leading to undesirable p-doping and instability. In this study, it is demonstrated that surface passivation by phenethylammonium iodide (PEAI) and 4-fluorophenethylammonium iodide (FPEAI) effectively passivates surface defects in 2D phenethylammonium tin iodide (PEA 2 SnI 4 ) films, increases the grain size by surface recrystallization, and p-dopes the PEA 2 SnI 4 film to form a better energy-level alignment with the electrodes and promote charge transport properties. As a result, the passivated devices exhibit better ambient and gate bias stability, improved photo-response, and higher mobility, for example, 2.96 cm 2 V -1 s -1 for the FPEAI-passivated films-four times higher than the control film (0.76 cm 2 V -1 s -1 ). In addition, these perovskite transistors display non-volatile photomemory characteristics and are used as perovskite-transistor-based memories. As the research of photonic electronics thrives, the enhanced efficacy from an optic unit cell can considerably improve the performance of an optoelectronic device. In this regard, organic phototransistor memory with a fast programming/readout and a distinguished memory ratio produces an advantageous outlook to fulfill the demand for advanced applications. In this study, a hydrogen-bonded supramolecular electret is introduced into the phototransistor memory, which comprises porphyrin dyes, meso-tetra(4-aminophenyl)porphine, meso-tetra( p -hydroxyphenyl)porphine, and meso-tetra(4-carboxyphenyl)porphine (TCPP), and insulated polymers, poly(4-vinylpyridine) and poly(4-vinylphenol) (PVPh). To combine the optical absorption of porphyrin dyes, dinaphtho[2,3- b :2',3'- f ]thieno[3,2- b ]thiophene (DNTT) is selected as a semiconducting channel. The porphyrin dyes serve as the ambipolar trapping moiety, while the insulated polymers form a barrier to stabilize the trapped charges by forming hydrogen-bonded supramolecules. We find that the hole-trapping capability of the device is determined by the electrostatic potential distribution in the supramolecules, whereas the electron-trapping capability and the surface proton doping originated from hydrogen bonding and interfacial interactions. Among them, PVPh:TCPP with an optimal hydrogen bonding pattern in the supramolecular electret produces the highest memory ratio of 1.12 × 10 8 over 10 4 s, which is the highest performance among the reported achievements. Our results suggest that the hydrogen-bonded supramolecular electret can enhance the memory performance by fine-tuning their bond strength and cast light on a potential pathway to future photonic electronics.

Pteris laeta Wall., as a traditional tea, is popular in Southwest China, but its role in preventing cognitive impairment is unclear. In this study, Pteris laeta Wall. extracts (PW) and its active compounds were evaluated for preventive effects on Alzheimer's disease (AD) in vivo and in vitro . The results showed that PW diminished oxidative stress damage and apoptosis of Aβ-induced HT22 cells and also rescued cognitive deficits, and ameliorated pathological injury and inflammatory response in APP/PS1 mice. Besides, a new pterosin sesquiterpene, named pterosinsade A (PA), and nine known compounds were discovered from the EtOAc extract that possessed the best neuroprotective activity. PA reduced apoptosis of APP-overexpressing neural stem cells and promoted their proliferation and neuronal differentiation. Meanwhile, PW and PA promoted hippocampal neurogenesis, which proved to be associated with activating the Wnt signaling pathway. These findings suggest that PW and PA are candidates for AD prevention.

A moiré superlattice formed in twisted van der Waals bilayers has emerged as a new tuning knob for creating new electronic states in two-dimensional materials. Excitonic properties can also be altered drastically due to the presence of moiré potential. However, quantifying the moiré potential for excitons is nontrivial. By creating a large ensemble of MoSe 2 /MoS 2 heterobilayers with a systematic variation of twist angles, we map out the minibands of interlayer and intralayer excitons as a function of twist angles, from which we determine the moiré potential for excitons. Surprisingly, the moiré potential depth for intralayer excitons is up to ∼130 meV, comparable to that for interlayer excitons. This result is markedly different from theoretical calculations based on density functional theory, which show an order of magnitude smaller moiré potential for intralayer excitons. The remarkably deep intralayer moiré potential is understood within the framework of structural reconstruction within the moiré unit cell.

Type 2 diabetic osteoporosis (T2DOP) is a chronic bone metabolic disease. Compared with traditional menopausal osteoporosis, the long-term high glucose (HG) microenvironment increases patients' risk of fracture and osteonecrosis. We were accumulating evidence that implicated ferroptosis as a pivotal mechanism of glucolipotoxicity-mediated death of osteocytes and osteoblast, a novel form of programmed cell death resulting from uncontrolled lipid peroxidation depending on iron. Vitamin K2 (VK2), a fat-soluble vitamin, is clinically applied to prevent osteoporosis and improve coagulation. This study aimed to clarify the role and mechanism of VK2 in HG-mediated ferroptosis. We established the mouse T2DOP model by intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin solution and a high-fat and high-sugar diet. We also cultured bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) in HG to simulate the diabetic environment in vitro. Based on our data, VK2 inhibited HG-mediated bone loss and ferroptosis, the latter manifested by decreased levels of mitochondrial reactive oxygen species, lipid peroxidation, and malondialdehyde and increased glutathione in vitro. In addition, VK2 treatment was capable of restoring bone mass and strengthening the expression of SIRT1, GPX4, and osteogenic markers in the distal femurs. As for further mechanism exploration, we found that VK2 could activate AMPK/SIRT1 signaling, and knockdown of SIRT1 by siRNA prevented the VK2-mediated positive effect in HG-cultured BMSCs. Summarily, VK2 could ameliorate T2DOP through the activation of the AMPK/SIRT1 signaling pathway to inhibit ferroptosis.

Oxidative stress is preferentially treated as a risk factor for the development and progression of osteoporosis. Corynoline as a component of Corydalis bungeana Turcz presents antioxidative and anti-inflammatory properties. In the present study, the effects of Corynoline on osteoblasts following hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 )-induced injury were evaluated accompanied by the investigation of the molecular mechanisms involved. It was found that Corynoline downregulated the intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and restored the osteogenic potential of the disrupted osteoblasts by H 2 O 2 exposure. Furthermore, Corynoline was revealed to activate the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway, while ML385 (an Nrf2 inhibitor) would prevent the Corynoline-mediated positive effects on the disrupted osteoblasts. In terms of the animal experiments, Corynoline treatment contributed to a significantly alleviated bone loss. These findings indicate that Corynoline may significantly attenuate the H 2 O 2 -induced oxidative damage of osteoblasts via the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway, providing novel insights to the development of treatments for osteoporosis induced by oxidative injury., Competing Interests: There were no financial or other conflicts of interest in designing, performing, or drafting this work., (© 2023 The Authors. In this study, a molecule with a three-dimensional (3D) cyclic structure, a cryptand, is demonstrated as an effective additive for the quasi-two-dimensional (quasi-2D) PEA 2 Cs n -1 Pb n Br 3 n +1 ( n = 3, herein) to improve its light-emitting performance. The cryptand can effectively regulate the phase distribution of the quasi-2D perovskite through its intense interaction with PbBr 2 , benefitting from its cage-like structure that can better capture the Pb 2+ ions. Due to the inhibited growth of the low- n phases, a much-concentrated phase distribution is achieved for the cryptand-containing films. Moreover, its constituent O/N atoms can passivate the uncoordinated Pb 2+ ions to improve the film quality. Such a synergistic effect thereby facilitates the charge/energy transfer among the multiple phases and reduces the non-radiative recombination. As a result, the quasi-2D perovskite light-emitting diode (PeLED) with the optimized cryptand doping ratio is shown to deliver the highest luminance ( L max ) of 15 532 cd m -2 with a highest external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 4.02%. Compared to the pristine device, L max is enhanced by ∼5 times and EQE is enhanced by ∼10 times.

The cadmium tungstate rods have been given much attention due to their potential for usage in numerous luminescent applications. We have prepared single crystalline Sn-doped Cd 1-x Sn x WO 4 (where x = 0, 1, 3, and 5%) nanorods (NRDs) and characterized them using refined X-ray diffraction and TEM analysis, revealing a monoclinic phase and a crystallite size that decreased from 62 to 38 nm as Sn concentration increased. Precise Sn doping modulation in CdWO 4 NRDs causes surface recombination of electrons and holes, which causes the PL intensity to decrease as the Sn content rises. The chromaticity diagram shows that an increase in the Sn content caused a change in the emission color from sky blue to light green, which was attributed to the increased defect density. The photoluminescence time decay curve of all samples fit well with double-order exponential decay, and the average decay lifetime was found to be 1.11, 0.93, and 1.16 ns for Cd 1-x Sn x WO 4 , x = 0, 1, and 5%, respectively. This work provides an understanding of the behavior of Sn-doped CdWO 4 NRDs during electron transitions and the physical nature of emission that could be used in bio-imaging, light sources, displays, and other applications.

The morphology and metal oxidation states of atmospheric aerosols are pertinent to their formation processes and ensuing interactions with surrounding gases, vapors and other environments upon deposition, such as human respiratory tract, soil and water. Although much progress has been made in recent years through single-particle techniques, considerably less is known with respect to the three-dimensional (3D) internal morphology of single atmospheric aerosol particles due to the limited penetration depth of electron microscopy. In this study, for the first time, a novel synchrotron-based transmission X-ray microscopy (TXM) methodology has been developed to visualize the 3D internal chemical mixing state and structure of single particles. The results show that the TXM is more applicable to the imaging of solid particles containing high-density elements, e.g., iron (Fe), aluminum (Al), silicone (Si), carbon (C) and sulfur (S), and/or solid particles of sizes larger than about 100 nm. In addition, the TXM is capable to reveal the fine 3D topographic features of single particles. The derived 3D internal and external information would be difficult to discern in the 2D images from electron microscopy. The TXM 3D images illustrate that aerosol particles exhibit complex internal mixing state and structure, e.g., homogeneously-, heterogeneously-mixed, multiple inclusions, fibrous, porous, and core-shell configuration. When coupled with the synchrotron-based X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF) and absorption near-edge spectroscopy (XANES) of an X-ray nanoprobe in the energy range of 4-15 keV, the 3D morphology of single particles is further supplemented with the spatial distribution and oxidation sates of selected elements, including Fe, vanadium (V), manganese (Mn), chromium (Cr) and arsenic (As). COVID-19, referred to as new coronary pneumonia, is an acute infectious disease caused by a new type of coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. To evaluate the effect of integrated Chinese medicine and Western medicine in patients with COVID-19 from overseas. Data were collected from 178 COVID-19 patients overseas at First Affiliated Hospital of Xiamen University from April 1, 2021 to July 31, 2021. These patients received therapy of integrated Chinese medicine and western medicine. Demographic data and clinical characteristics were extracted and analyzed. In addition, the prescription which induced less length of PCR positive days and hospitalization days than the median value was obtained. The top 4 frequently used Chinese medicine and virus-related genes were analyzed by network pharmacology and bioinformatics analysis. According to the chest computed tomography (CT) measurement, abnormal lung findings were observed in 145 subjects. The median length of positive PCR/hospitalization days was 7/7 days for asymptomatic subjects, 14/24 days for mild subjects, 10/15 days for moderate subjects, and 14/20 days for severe subjects. The most frequently used Chinese medicine were Scutellaria baicalensis (Huangqin), Glycyrrhiza uralensis (Gancao) , Bupleurum chinense (Chaihu), and Pinellia ternata (Banxia). The putative active ingredients were baicalin, stigmasterol, sigmoidin-B, cubebin, and troxerutin. ACE, SARS-CoV-2 3CL, SARS-CoV-2 Spike, SARS-CoV-2 ORF7a, and caspase-6 showed good binding properties to active ingredients. In conclusion, the clinical results showed that integrated Chinese medicine and Western medicine are effective in treating COVID-19 patients from overseas. Bismuth vanadate (BiVO 4 ) has attracted substantial attention on account of its usefulness in producing hydrogen by photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting. The exploitation of BiVO 4 for this purpose is yet limited by severe charge recombination in the bulk of BiVO 4 , which is caused by the short diffusion length of the photoexcited charge carriers and inefficient charge separation. Enormous effort has been made to improve the photocurrent density and solar-to-hydrogen conversion efficiency of BiVO 4 . This study demonstrates that modulating the composition of the electrode and the electronic configuration of BiVO 4 by decoration with silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) is effective in not only enhancing the charge carrier concentration but also suppressing charge recombination in the solar water splitting process. Decoration with a small number of Ag NPs significantly enhances the photocurrent density of BiVO 4 to an extent that increases with the concentration of the Ag NPs. At 0.5% Ag NPs, the photocurrent density approaches 4.1 mA cm -2 at 1.23 V versus a reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) under solar simulated light illumination; this value is much higher than the 2.3 mA cm -2 of pure BiVO 4 under the same conditions. X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) is utilized to investigate the electronic structure of pure BiVO 4 and its modification by decoration with Ag NPs. Analytical results indicate that increased distortion of the VO 4 tetrahedra alters the V 3d-O 2p hybridized states. Additionally, as the Ag concentration increases, the oxygen vacancy defects that act as recombination centers in BiVO 4 are reduced. In situ XAS, which is conducted under dark and solar illumination conditions, reveals that the significantly enhanced PEC performance is attributable to the synergy of modulated atomic/electronic structures and the localized surface plasmon resonance effect of the Ag nanoparticles.

Near-infrared (NIR)-emitting persistent luminescence (PersL) nanoparticles have attracted great attention as a novel optical probe for bioimaging and biosensing applications. These nanoparticles emit long-lasting luminescence after the removal of the excitation source, which effectively eliminates the interference from tissue autofluorescence. Cr-doped zinc gallate (ZnGa 2 O 4 :Cr 3+ , CZGO) is a representative NIR-emitting PersL material. On the other hand, amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) is a widely used drug carrier due to its high biocompatibility. In this work, we present a design of an ACP-based drug carrier with PersL properties, by forming a CZGO-ACP composite. The PersL properties of CZGO were preserved by composite formation, while it is found that the Zn 2+ could migrate from CZGO to ACP during composite formation, leading to different luminescence mechanisms between pure CZGO and the CZGO-ACP composite. The electronic structure of the composite was analyzed by synchrotron X-ray absorption spectroscopy, and a structure-luminescence correlation was proposed.

Two-dimensional (2D) all-inorganic Ruddlesden-Popper (RP) perovskite Cs 7 Pb 6 I 19 nanosheets (NSs) were successfully developed for the first time by employing a structural recrystallization process with additional passivation of small organic sulfide molecules. The structure of Cs 7 Pb 6 I 19 NSs is confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction measurements, atomically-resolved STEM measurements and atomic force microscopy (AFM) studies. Cs 7 Pb 6 I 19 NSs with a specific n value of 6 exhibits unique absorption and emission spectra with intense excitons at 560 nm due to quantum confinement effects in 2D perovskite slabs. The formation mechanisms of 2D Cs 7 Pb 6 I 19 NSs and 3D γ-CsPbI 3 phases were investigated by in situ photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy and the activation energies of their formation reactions were calculated to be 151 kJ mol -1 and 95.3 kJ mol -1 , respectively. The phase stability of 2D Cs 7 Pb 6 I 19 NSs can be maintained at temperatures below 14 °C for more than 4 weeks. The overall results indicate that 2D Cs 7 Pb 6 I 19 NSs demonstrate unique optical properties and structural stability compared with other 3D perovskite materials. We have opened a new path to the future discovery of 2D perovskite structures with metastable phases by using this recrystallization method and the assistance of sulfur-derived organic molecules.

Bone metabolism occurs in the entire life of an individual and is required for maintaining skeletal homeostasis. The imbalance between osteogenesis and osteoclastogenesis eventually leads to osteoporosis. Oxidative stress is considered a major cause of bone homeostasis disorder, and relieving excessive oxidative stress in bone mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) is a potential treatment strategy for osteoporosis. Carbon monoxide releasing molecule-3 (CORM-3), the classical donor of carbon monoxide (CO), possesses antioxidation, antiapoptosis, and anti-inflammatory properties. In our study, we found that CORM-3 could reduce reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation and prevent mitochondrial dysfunction thereby restoring the osteogenic potential of the BMSCs disrupted by hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) exposure. The action of CORM-3 was preliminarily considered the consequence of Nrf2/HO-1 axis activation. In addition, CORM-3 inhibited osteoclast formation in mouse primary bone marrow monocytes (BMMs) by inhibiting H 2 O 2 -induced polarization of M1 macrophages and endowing macrophages with M2 polarizating ability. Rat models further demonstrated that CORM-3 treatment could restore bone mass and enhance the expression of Nrf2 and osteogenic markers in the distal femurs. Automated inspection has proven to be the most effective approach to maintaining quality in industrial-scale manufacturing. This study employed the eye-in-hand architecture in conjunction with deep learning and convolutional neural networks to automate the detection of defects in forged aluminum rims for electric vehicles. RobotStudio software was used to simulate the environment and path trajectory for a camera installed on an ABB robot arm to capture 3D images of the rims. Four types of surface defects were examined: (1) dirt spots, (2) paint stains, (3) scratches, and (4) dents. Generative adversarial network (GAN) and deep convolutional generative adversarial networks (DCGAN) were used to generate additional images to expand the depth of the training dataset. We also developed a graphical user interface and software system to mark patterns associated with defects in the images. The defect detection algorithm based on YOLO algorithms made it possible to obtain results more quickly and with higher mean average precision (mAP) than that of existing methods. Experiment results demonstrated the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed system. Our developed system has been shown to be a helpful rim defective detection system for industrial applications.

With the explosive growth in data generation, photomemory capable of multibit data storage is highly desired to enhance the capacity of storage media. To improve the performance of phototransistor memory, an organic-molecule-based electret with an elaborate nanostructure is of great importance because it can enable multibit data storage in a memory device with high stability. In this study, a series of star-shaped rod-coil molecules consisting of perylenediimide (PDI) and biobased solanesol were synthesized in two-armed (PDI-Sol2), four-armed (PDI-Sol4), and six-armed (PDI-Sol6) architectures. Their molecular architecture-morphology relationships were investigated, and phototransistor memory was fabricated and characterized to evaluate the structure-performance relationship of these rod-coil molecules. Accordingly, the memory devices were enabled by photowriting with panchromatic light (405-650 nm) and electrical erasing using a gate bias. The PDI-Sol4-based memory device showed high memory ratios of 10 000 over 10 000 s and a rapid multilevel photoresponse of 50 ms. This achievement is related to the favorable energy-level alignment, isolated nanostructure, and face-on orientation of PDI-Sol4, which eliminated the charge tunneling barrier. The results of this study provide a new strategy for tailoring nanostructures in organic-molecule-based electrets by using a star-shaped rod-coil architecture for high-performance phototransistor memory.

This study develops and successfully demonstrates visualization methods for the characterization of europium (Eu)-doped BaAl 2 O 4 phosphors using X-ray nanoprobe techniques. X-ray fluorescence (XRF) mapping not only gives information on the elemental distributions but also clearly reveals the valence state distributions of the Eu 2+ and Eu 3+ ions. The accuracy of the estimated valence state distributions was examined by performing X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) across the Eu L 3 -edge (6.977 keV). The X-ray excited optical luminescence (XEOL) spectra exhibit different emission lines in the selected local areas. Their corresponding emission distributions can be obtained via XEOL mapping. The emission properties can be understood through correlation analysis. The results demonstrate that the main contribution to the luminescence intensity of the Eu-doped BaAl 2 O 4 comes from the Eu 2+ activator and the emission intensity will not be influenced by the concentration of Eu 2+ or Eu 3+ ions. It is anticipated that X-ray nanoprobes will open new avenues with significant characterization ability for unravelling the emission mechanisms of phosphor materials., (open access.)

In this study, two natural small molecules, α-cyclodextrin (α-CD) and β-cyclodextrin (β-CD), are used as additives to improve the performance of quasi-2D PEA 2 Cs n -1 Pb n Br 3 n +1 ( n = 3, herein) PeLEDs. Both of them are shown to efficiently passivate the quasi-2D perovskite films to afford improved film quality and morphology, but they exhibit distinct phase regulation behaviors possibly due to their different pore sizes. It reveals that α-CD effectively suppresses the formation of the low- n phases ( n ≤ 2), while β-CD better regulates the phase with a medium- n value ( n = 3). Because of effectively suppressing the formation of low- n phases, the CD-assisted quasi-2D perovskite films possess facilitated exciton energy transfer and reduced nonradiative recombination. Consequently, the optimized α-CD-derived PeLED shows the highest luminance ( L max ) of 37,825 cd/m 2 with an external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 3.81%, while the β-CD-derived PeLED delivers a lower L max of 24,793 cd/m 2 with an EQE of 3.09%. Compared to the pristine device, L max is enhanced by 6.3 and 3.8 times for α-CD- and β-CD-based PeLEDs, respectively, and EQE is enhanced by ∼4.8 times for both devices; besides, both CD-assisted devices also exhibit improved color purity and a lower bias dependency of electroluminescent intensity.

Most of the reported 2D Ruddlesden-Popper (RP) lead halide perovskites with the general formula of A n +1 B n X 3 n +1 (n = 1, 2, …) comprise layered perovskites separated by A-site-substituted organic spacers. To date, only a small number of X-site-substituted RP perovskites have been reported. Herein, the first inorganic-cation pseudohalide 2D phase perovskite single crystal, Cs 2 Pb(SCN) 2 Br 2 , is reported. It is synthesized by the antisolvent vapor-assisted crystallization (AVC) method at room temperature. It exhibits a standard single-layer (n = 1) Ruddlesden-Popper structure described in space group of Pmmn (#59) and has a small separation (d = 1.69 Å) between the perovskite layers. The SCN - anions are found to bend the 2D Pb(SCN) 2 Br 2 framework slightly into a kite-shaped octahedron, limiting the formation of a quasi-2D perovskite structure (n > 1). This 2D single crystal exhibits a reversible first-order phase transformation to 3D CsPbBr 3 (Pm3m #221) at 450 K. It has a low exciton binding energy of 160 meV-one of the lowest for 2D perovskites (n = 1). A Cs 2 Pb(SCN) 2 Br 2 -single-crystal photodetector is demonstrated with respectable responsivity of 8.46 mA W -1 and detectivity of ≈1.2 × 10 10 Jones at a low bias voltage of 0.5 V., (© 2021 The Authors. Lung cancer, one of the most common causes of cancer-related death worldwide, has been associated with high treatment cost and imposed great burdens. The 5-year postoperative survival rate of lung cancer (13%) is lower than many other leading cancers indicating the urgent needs to dissect its pathogenic mechanisms and discover specific biomarkers. Although several proteins have been proposed to be potential candidates for the diagnosis of lung cancer, they present low accuracy in clinical settings. Metabolomics has thus emerged as a very promising tool for biomarker discovery. To date, many lung cancer-related metabolites have been highlighted in the literature but no database is available for scientists to retrieve this information. Herein, we construct and introduce the first Lung Cancer Metabolome Database (LCMD), a freely available online database depositing 2013 lung cancer-related metabolites identified from 65 mass spectrometry-based lung cancer metabolomics studies. Researchers are able to explore LCMD via two ways. Firstly, by applying various filters in the "Browse Metabolites" mode, users can access a list of lung cancer-related metabolites that satisfy the filter specifications. For each metabolite, users can acquire the value of the fold change (cancer/normal), statistical significance (p-value) of the fold change, and the comparative research designs of all the mass spectrometry-based lung cancer metabolomics studies that identify this metabolite. Secondly, by applying various filters in the "Browse Studies" mode, users can obtain a list of mass spectrometry-based lung cancer metabolomics studies that satisfy the filter specifications. For each study, users can view the type of studied specimen, mass spectrometry (MS) method, MS data processing software, and differential analysis method, as well as all the identified lung cancer-related metabolites. Furthermore, the overview of each study is clearly illustrated by a graphical summary. The LCMD (http://cosbi7.ee.ncku.edu.tw/LCMD/) is the first database that brings together the meaningful information of lung cancer-related metabolites. X-ray ptychography, a technique based on scanning and processing of coherent diffraction patterns, is a non-destructive imaging technique with a high spatial resolution far beyond the focused beam size. Earlier demonstrations of hard X-ray ptychography at Taiwan Photon Source (TPS) using an in-house program successfully recorded the ptychographic diffraction patterns from a gold-made Siemens star as a test sample and retrieved the finest inner features of 25 nm. Ptychography was performed at two beamlines with different focusing optics: a pair of Kirkpatrick-Baez mirrors and a pair of nested Montel mirrors, for which the beam sizes on the focal planes were 3 µm and 200 nm and the photon energies were from 5.1 keV to 9 keV. The retrieved spatial resolutions are 20 nm to 11 nm determined by the 10-90% line-cut method and half-bit threshold of Fourier shell correlation. This article describes the experimental conditions and compensation methods, including position correction, mixture state-of-probe, and probe extension methods, of the aforementioned experiments. The discussions will highlight the criteria of ptychographic experiments at TPS as well as the opportunity to characterize beamlines by measuring factors such as the drift or instability of beams or stages and the coherence of beams. Besides, probe functions, the full complex fields illuminated on samples, can be recovered simultaneously using ptychography. Theoretically, the wavefield at any arbitrary position can be estimated from one recovered probe function undergoing wave-propagating. The verification of probe-propagating has been carried out by comparing the probe functions obtained by ptychography and undergoing wave-propagating located at 0, 500 and 1000 µm relative to the focal plane.
