Our working hypothesis was that IT is a valid alternative to GT when GT is not feasible.Patients and Methods: This was a single-blind, randomized study. We recruited 52 women with POP, without significant comorbidity, and no participation in any structured exercise program within the previous 6 months. They were assigned randomly to IT or GT groups (n = 26 each). Distribution of age (IT: 68± 4, GT: 67± 8 years) and body mass index (IT: 23.0± 2.5, GT: 21.4± 5.1) was similar between groups. Each group performed the exercise program in two 1-hour sessions per week for 18 months. Primary outcome measure was Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL), as measured by the Short Osteoporosis Quality of Life Questionnaire. Secondary outcome measures focused on domains acknowledged to influence HRQoL (disability, fear of falling, weekly physical activity, physical function) or the effectiveness of the exercise program (retention, adherence, and safety). Significance level was set at p < 0.05.Results: No significant differences were observed between IT and GT groups for any domain. Retention, adherence, and safety were also similar. HRQoL, disability and fear of falling did not change between baseline and follow-up for either group. However, for both groups, physical function (knee flexion, shoulder mobility) and functional capacity (6-minute walking test) improved. Weekly physical activity levels increased from moderate range at baseline to intense at final assessment for both groups.Conclusion: IT and GT supervised exercise programs for women with POP provide similar effectiveness, participation and safety. Hence, both modalities should be considered for future translation in clinical practice of exercise recommendations for POP.Keywords: coaching, encouragement, exercise, physical activity, postmenopausal osteoporosis, quality of life

Summary: Myeloablative pre-conditioning facilitates the differentiation of transplanted hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs). However, the factors in the stress environment that regulate HSPC behavior remain elusive. Here, we investigated the mechanisms that shaped the cell fates of transplanted murine multipotent progenitors (MPPs) expressing the Fms-related receptor tyrosine kinase 3 gene (Flt3). Using lineage tracing, clonal analysis, and single-cell RNA sequencing (RNA-seq), we showed that the myeloablative environment increased lymphoid priming of Flt3+ MPPs and that their efficient B cell output required intact interleukin 1 (IL-1) signaling. The Flt3+ MPPs with short-term exposure to IL-1β underwent a myeloid-biased to lymphoid-biased cell fate switch and produced more lymphoid-biased progeny with a stronger B lymphopoiesis capacity in vitro. Correspondingly, a brief exposure to IL-1β facilitated the B cell output of transplanted Flt3+ MPPs in vivo. Together, our study demonstrated an unrecognized function of IL-1β in promoting B lymphopoiesis and highlighted a latent effect of IL-1β in regulating MPP cell fate dynamics.

High-standard farmland construction is critical for sustainable land use and food security in China. Currently, scientific siting delineation for high-standard farmland at the county level is lacking. Delineation through evaluation and zoning is essential to improve land productivity. This study focuses on Dali County in Shaanxi Province, Fenwei Plain. It analyzes cultivated land changes using the land use transfer matrix and the PLUS. By integrating macro “township-parcel-grid” and micro “farmer” perspective, it establishes a comprehensive evaluation system for high-standard farmland delineation. We delineate construction zones and evaluate potential effect of high-standard farmland. The results reveal that: (1) From 2000 to 2020, the cultivated land area generally decreased. The permanent basic farmland positively contributes to the increase of cultivated land. Land use simulation in 2030 results show that the urgency for land consolidation. (2) The delineated high-standard farmland area in Dali is 85,081 hm2, with comprehensive evaluation index values ranging from 0.2229 to 0.5970, indicating that Dali has the potential for continuous construction of high-standard farmland. (3) This study zones high-standard farmland construction according to the difficulty and time sequence. Delineated high-standard farmland can play potential effect of agglomeration and demonstration, sustainable and coordinated development and grain production capacity increasing. We offer a scientific method for delineating zones of high-standard farmland within county, providing recommendations for sustainable high-standard farmland construction. It serves as a reference for the gradual conversion of all permanent basic farmland to high-standard farmland in China.

We experimentally and numerically investigated the cascade random-quasi-phase-matched harmonic generation in polycrystalline zinc selenide with tightly focused mid-infrared nanosecond laser pulses. We observed a sharp transition between two distinct intensity scaling regimes as a function of pump energy from sub IN to super IN, where I is the pump intensity and N is the harmonic order. To gain an understanding of the observations of this complex nonlinear process, we carried out simulations of the coupled three-wave mixing equations with random grain sizes and orientations. We found a grain size dependence of the effective phase-matching condition, suggesting that manipulation of grain size can be an effective pathway to phase-matching optimization. This approach may provide a framework for effectively enhancing high harmonic generation and other wave mixing effects in polycrystalline materials. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract While phonon anharmonicity affects lattice thermal conductivity intrinsically and is difficult to be modified, controllable lattice defects routinely function only by scattering phonons extrinsically. Here, through a comprehensive study of crystal structure and lattice dynamics of Zintl-type Sr(Cu,Ag,Zn)Sb thermoelectric compounds using neutron scattering techniques and theoretical simulations, we show that the role of vacancies in suppressing lattice thermal conductivity could extend beyond defect scattering. The vacancies in Sr2ZnSb2 significantly enhance lattice anharmonicity, causing a giant softening and broadening of the entire phonon spectrum and, together with defect scattering, leading to a ~ 86% decrease in the maximum lattice thermal conductivity compared to SrCuSb. We show that this huge lattice change arises from charge density reconstruction, which undermines both interlayer and intralayer atomic bonding strength in the hierarchical structure. These microscopic insights demonstrate a promise of artificially tailoring phonon anharmonicity through lattice defect engineering to manipulate lattice thermal conductivity in the design of energy conversion materials.

The closed architecture and stand-alone operation model of traditional industrial control systems limit their ability to leverage ubiquitous infrastructure resources for more flexible and intelligent development. This restriction hinders their ability to rapidly, economically, and sustainably respond to mass customization demands. Existing proposals for open and networked architectures have failed to break the vicious cycle of closed architectures and stand-alone operation models because they do not address the core issue: the tight coupling among the control, infrastructure, and actuator domains. This paper proposes a reconfigurable architecture that decouples these domains, structuring the control system across three planes: control, infrastructure, and actuator. The computer numerical control (CNC) system serves as a primary example to illustrate this reconfigurable architecture. After reviewing open and networked architectures and discussing the characteristics of this reconfigurable architecture, this paper identifies three key challenges: deterministic control functionality, the decoupling of control modules from infrastructures, and the management of control modules, infrastructures, and actuators. Each challenge is examined in detail, and potential solutions are proposed based on emerging technologies.
