Investigating the later stages of life, this study aims to outline a specific personal context shaped during this phase, approached from various perspectives: theological, medical, psychological, and social, each highlighting distinct challenges. Theologically, the focus is on the afterlife and preparation for meeting the Righteous Judge. Medically, the emphasis is on health deterioration, culminating in the cessation of bodily existence. Psychologically, the study mentions the decline in cognitive functions, anxiety, and depression. Social aspects include isolation, marginalization, adaptation to change, and the loss of loved ones. Considering the impact of these factors on human life, this research examines to what extent the Sacrament of Communion, from an Orthodox perspective, offers answers to all these challenges. Based on a qualitative research method (content/thematic analysis) of liturgical texts using MAXQDA software, the study focuses on the prayers preceding and following this Sacrament. It highlights the complex nature of the Sacrament of Communion, its multiple faces, and its extended benefits, as well as the risks of partaking without proper preparation. The results provide arguments for the significance the Orthodox Church grants to the mystical union between man and God in the Sacrament of Communion, also emphasizing the importance of an authentic spiritual life. This paper critically presents the new Slovenian translation of the Divine Liturgy by John Chrysostom and Basil the Great, which is the third in almost a hundred years, but the first to be made according to the Ruthenian Review (Old Church Slavonic) and above all, the first to be officially approved by Rome. Firstly, the article presents the historical and liturgical context of the origin, the first Slavonic translations, the structure and the celebration of the Divine Liturgy, and then gives some theoretical orientations on the modern translation of (Eastern) liturgical texts. Finally, the circumstances in which this new translation was made are explained, and some concrete translation issues and the reasons for their solution are presented.

The Christian tradition from the first days of its existence used the living word of the gospel. From the event of Pentecost, when the word of faith sounded in the ears of the listeners in their own language, the Church established an important principle: the Heavenly Father gave the apostles of Christ the gift of speaking in different languages, but did not give the multilingual pilgrims in Jerusalem the gift of understanding Hebrew. During the 2,000-year history of the Church, Christ's teaching was spread in the language of the respective peoples. But parallel to this, a tendency to use in worship old languages considered "holy" was later noticed. While the truth is that what is sacred is the content of Christian preaching and worship, not the language in which it is offered. To this day, this practice of neglecting the understandable language of the people is observed in some of the local Orthodox churches. The two manuscripts under discussion are testimonies of two processes, both understudied: first, the codification of English portions in the marriage liturgy in late-medieval England, and secondly, the exchange of manuscripts between England and continental Europe in the later Middle Ages up to and including the sixteenth century. The English fragments in Hanover, Stadtbibliothek, Mag. 3, were reused in Germany in the late fifteenth century, while the Sarum missal in Munich, Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, Clm 705, must have travelled to its current repository in the late sixteenth century. Through the English portions contained in them, they contribute in unique ways to a corpus of marriage-related English micro-texts that can be sourced mainly from liturgical manuscripts and early prints. In what follows, I shall offer a description of the two manuscripts and provide information about their provenance and the transmission to their current German repositories. The English portions and relevant extracts from the Latin are being edited here for the first time, and I will situate them within the corpus of extant English marriage ordines. Margin Notes of Galician Church Old Printed Books of the 17th Centuries The article is devoted to the collection of church old printed books of the 17th centuries, which are stored in the National Reserve “Davniy Halych” or are investigated by scientists of this institution during 1994-2018 years. The main objects of the studios were more than 50 liturgical books, which came from parishes of the Galician orthodox / greek-catholic church organization. Particular attention is paid to the problem of cataloging of printed memos, as well as their study in the context of the source-study perspective. The important element of the study consists of the margin notes, first of all represented by the offering texts that often inform contemporaries about the already nonexisting churches. However, unusual notes, such as a piece of a carol, chronicles or correction of liturgical texts through confessional motives occur on book pages.

Along with the usual inscription that contains the title of the scene, depictions of the Dormition of Holy Virgin in the art of the Palaiologan period abound in texts inscribed on open books carried by holy bishops or scrolls held by the hymnographers and prophets included in the composition. Inscriptions can also be found in the episodes that sometimes accompany the central representation of the Virgin Mary's death. This paper seeks to compile the most typical examples of such inscriptions, identify their hymnographic and liturgical sources and offer iconographic interpretations.
