Abstract

Anomalous Hall effect (AHE) is important for understanding the topological properties of electronic states, and provides insight into the spin-polarized carriers of magnetic materials. AHE has been extensively studied in metallic, but not variable-range-hopping (VRH), regime. Here we report the experiments of both anomalous and ordinary Hall effect (OHE) in Mott and Efros VRH regimes. We found unusual scaling law of the AHE coefficient $Rah=aRxx^b$ with b>2, contrasting the OHE coefficient $Roh=cRxx^d$ with d<1. More strikingly, the sign of AHE coefficient changes with temperature with specific electron densities.

Abstract

We systematically calculate various flavor-changing neutral-current top-quark processes induced by supersymmetry at the Large Hadron Collider, which include five decay modes and six production channels. To reveal the characteristics of these processes, we first compare the dependence of the rates for these channels on the relevant supersymmetric parameters, then we scan the whole parameter space to find their maximal rates, including all the direct and indirect current experimental constraints on the scharm-stop flavor mixings. We find that, under all these constraints, only a few channels, through cg->t at parton-level and t-> ch, may be observable at the Large Hadron Collider., Comment: Version in PRD (refs updated)

7. Magnetic resonance imaging assessment of substantia nigral iron deposition in Parkinson's disease: a meta-analysis.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: The pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease (PD) is associated with abnormal iron accumulation. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies have shown that patients with Parkinson's disease have an increased amount of iron in their substantia nigra (SN). We have undertaken a meta-analysis of studies using MRI in PD, to explore the potential role of MRI in diagnosing PD using abnormal iron deposition in SN as a candidate biomarker. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Searches of PubMed, Embase, and Medline databases revealed 16 studies that compared PD patients and healthy controls (HC). A sensitivity analysis and subgroup analysis were performed to evaluate the reliability of our results. Estimates were pooled by the fixed-effects model. As an expression of I2, we computed the proportion of variation due to heterogeneity. RESULTS: We i ncluded 16 s tudies with s ample sizes of 435 PD and 355 HC in our meta-analysis. Results showed that SN iron deposition was significantly elevated (p<0.00001) in patients with PD compared to HC ones (SMD=0.72, 95% confidence interval 0.57 to 0.87, p<0.00001). CONCLUSIONS: Our findings, based on a homogeneous group-level analysis, suggest that MRI-based SN iron deposition could be used to distinguish PD from HC. For a more rigorous investigation of SN iron deposition in PD, larger cohort studies are needed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

10. Tensile deformation of S adsorbed in a monolayer of ReS2 affects its electronic structure and optical properties.

Abstract

Using density functional theory, the effect of biaxial tensile strain on adsorption of S in ReS2 monolayer is calculated. The study finds intrinsic ReS2 system and monolayer ReS2 adsorbed S system are affected by tensile deformation. Intrinsic ReS2 has direct band gap. As S appears, the system becomes indirect band gap. With tensile deformation amount of the intrinsic ReS2 system reaching 10%, the band gap reduces to 0.064eV. The growth rate of reflection and absorption coefficient are decreased by tensile deformation. The maximum reflection and absorption peak undergo red shift, improving the light reflection and absorption ability of adsorption system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
