High-harmonic generation (HHG), an extreme nonlinear effect, introduces an unprecedented paradigm to detect emergent quantum phases and electron dynamics inconceivable in the framework of linear and low-order nonlinear processes. As an important manifestation, the optical HHG (o-HHG) enables extraordinary opportunities to underpin attosecond physics. In addition to nonlinear optics, emerging nonlinear electric transport has been demonstrated recently and opens new paradigms to probe quantum phase transition, symmetry breaking, band geometrical and topological properties. Thus far, only electrical second-/third-harmonic generation in perturbative regime has been elucidated, while the electrical HHG (e-HHG) that can advance to extreme non-perturbative physics remains elusive. Here we report the observation of e-HHG up to 300th-order. Remarkably, the e-HHG shows a clear non-perturbative character and exhibits periodic oscillations with the reciprocal of driving current. Further, theoretical simulations corroborate the experiments, suggesting the contribution of singular distribution of Berry curvature near band edges. Our results demonstrate e-HHG in extreme nonlinear regime and may shed light on a plethora of exotic physics and applications, such as extreme non-equilibrium quantum phenomena, ultra-fast and coherent electrical signal generations and detections., Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures

The intriguing interplay between topology and superconductivity has attracted significant attention, given its potential for realizing topological superconductivity. In this study, we investigate the transport properties of the chiral Josephson effect in the quantum anomalous Hall insulators (QAHIs)-based junction. We reveal a systematic crossover from edge-state to bulk-state dominant supercurrents, with a notable $0-\pi$ transition observed under non-zero magnetic flux through chemical potential adjustments. This transition underscores the competition between bulk and chiral edge transport. Furthermore, we identify an evolution among three distinct quantum interference patterns: from a $2\Phi_0$-periodic oscillation pattern, to a $\Phi_0$-periodic oscillation pattern, and then to an asymmetric Fraunhofer pattern ($\Phi_0 = h/2e$ is the flux quantum, $h$ the Planck constant, and $e$ the electron charge). Subsequently, we examine the influence of domains on quantum interference patterns. Intriguingly, a distinctive Fraunhofer-like pattern emerges due to coexistence of chiral edge states and domain wall states, even when the chemical potential is within gap. These results not only advance the theoretical understanding but also pave the way for the experimental discovery of the chiral Josephson effect based on QAHI doped with magnetic impurities., Comment: 8 pages, 8 figures

Disorder is ubiquitous in real materials and can have dramatic effects on quantum phase transitions. Originating from the disorder enhanced quantum fluctuation, quantum Griffiths singularity (QGS) has been revealed as a universal phenomenon in quantum criticality of low-dimensional superconductors. However, due to the weak fluctuation effect, QGS is very challenging to detect experimentally in three-dimensional (3D) superconducting systems. Here we report the discovery of QGS associated with the quantum phase transition from 3D superconductor to Anderson critical insulator in a spinel oxide MgTi2O4 (MTO). Under both perpendicular and parallel magnetic field, the dynamical critical exponent diverges when approaching the quantum critical point, demonstrating the existence of 3D QGS. Among 3D superconductors, MTO shows relatively strong fluctuation effect featured as a wide superconducting transition region. The enhanced fluctuation, which may arise from the mobility edge of Anderson localization, finally leads to the occurrence of 3D quantum phase transition and QGS. Our findings offer a new perspective to understand quantum phase transitions in strongly disordered 3D systems.

In this study, we investigate the weak localization (WL) and weak antilocalization (WAL) effects in twisted bilayer graphene positioned on a hexagonal boron nitride substrate. The bottom graphene layer aligns with the hexagonal boron nitride. The top layer of the system features a Dirac cone with a negligible gap, while the bottom layer possesses a relatively large band gap. With a low concentration of impurities, the quantum correction to conductivity stems from the quantum interference between two time-reversed impurity scattering trajectories. We discover that inter-layer scattering significantly contributes to the conductivity correction when the Fermi surface areas of the two valleys at low energy are comparable. A double crossover from WL to WAL andback to WL occurs at a specific range of Fermi energy, which is particularly intriguing., Comment: 11 pages,4 figures

The nontrivial band topology can influence the Hofstadter spectrum. We investigate the Hofstadter spectrum for various models of Chern insulators under a rational flux $\frac{\phi_{0}}{q}$, here $\phi_{0}=\frac{h}{e}$ and $q$ being an integer. We find two major features. First, the number of splitting subbands is $|q-C|$ with Chern number $C$. Second, the anomalous open-orbit subbands with Chern numbers $q-1$ and $-q-1$ emerge, which are beyond the parameter window $(-q/2,q/2)$ of the Diophantine equation studied by Thouless-Kohmoto-Nightingale-den Nijs [Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{49}, 405 (1982)]. These two findings are explained by semiclassical dynamics. We propose that the number of splitting subbands can be utilized to determine Chern number in cold atom systems, and the open-orbit subbands can provide routes to study exotic features beyond the Landau level physics.

Time-reversal invariance and inversion symmetry are responsible for the topological band structure in Dirac semimetals. These symmetries can be broken by applying an external magnetic or electric field, resulting in fundamental changes to the ground state Hamiltonian and a topological phase transition. We probe these changes via the magnetic-field dependence and gate voltage-dependence of universal conductance fluctuations in top-gated nanowires of the prototypical Dirac semimetal Cd3As2. As the magnetic field is increased beyond the phase-breaking field, we find a factor of sqrt(2) reduction in the magnitude of the universal conductance fluctuations, in agreement with numerical calculations that study the effect of broken time reversal symmetry in a 3D Dirac semimetal. In contrast, the magnitude of the fluctuations increases monotonically as the chemical potential is gated away from the charge neutrality point. This effect cannot be attributed to broken inversion symmetry, but can be explained by Fermi surface anisotropy. The concurrence between experimental data and theory in our study provides unequivocal evidence that universal conductance fluctuations are the dominant source of intrinsic transport fluctuations in mesoscopic Cd3As2 devices and offers a promising general methodology for probing the effects of broken symmetry in topological quantum materials.

Quantum Griffiths singularity is characterized by the divergence of the dynamical critical exponent with the activated scaling law and has been widely observed in various two-dimensional superconductors. Recently, the direct activated scaling analysis with the irrelevant correction has been proposed and successfully used to analyze the experimental data of crystalline PdTe2 and polycrystalline \b{eta}-W films, which provides new evidence of quantum Griffiths singularity. Here we show that the direct activated scaling analysis is applicable to the experimental data in different superconducting films, including tri-layer Ga films and LaAlO3/SrTiO3 interface superconductor. When taking the irrelevant correction into account, we calculate the corrected sheet resistance at ultralow temperatures. The scaling behavior of the corrected resistance in a comparably large temperature regime and the theoretical fitting of the phase boundary give unambiguous evidence of quantum Griffiths singularity. Compared to the previous method based on the finite size scaling, the direct activated scaling analysis represents a more direct and precise way to analyze the experimental data of quantum Griffiths singularity in diverse two-dimensional superconductors.

Recently, log-periodic quantum oscillations have been detected in topological materials zirconium pentatelluride (ZrTe5) and hafnium pentatelluride (HfTe5), displaying intriguing discrete scale invariance (DSI) characteristic. In condensed materials, the DSI is considered to be related to the quasi-bound states formed by massless Dirac fermions with strong Coulomb attraction, offering a feasible platform to study the long-pursued atomic-collapse phenomenon. Here, we demonstrate that a variety of atomic vacancies in the topological material HfTe5 can host the geometric quasi-bound states with DSI feature, resembling the artificial supercritical atom collapse. The density of states of these quasi-bound states are enhanced and the quasi-bound states are spatially distributed in the "orbitals" surrounding the vacancy sites, which are detected and visualized by low-temperature scanning tunneling microscope/spectroscopy (STM/S). By applying the perpendicular magnetic fields, the quasi-bound states at lower energies become wider and eventually invisible, meanwhile the energies of quasi-bound states move gradually towards the Fermi energy (EF). These features are consistent with the theoretical prediction of a magnetic-field-induced transition from supercritical to subcritical states. The direct observation of geometric quasi-bound states sheds light on the deep understanding of the DSI in quantum materials.

We propose that half-quantized helical hinge currents manifest as the fingerprint of the axion insulator (AI). These helical hinge currents microscopically originate from the lateral Goos-H\"anchen (GH) shift of massless side-surface Dirac electrons that are totally reflected from the hinges. Meanwhile, due to the presence of the massive top and bottom surfaces of the AI, the helical current induced by the GH shift is half-quantized. The semiclassical wave packet analysis uncovers that the hinge current has a topological origin and its half-quantization is robust to parameter changes. Lastly, we propose an experimentally feasible six-terminal device to identify the half-quantized hinge channels by measuring the nonreciprocal conductances. The quasi-one-dimensional van der Waals compound Bi$_4$Br$_4$ was recently found to be a promising high-order topological insulator with exotic electronic states. In this paper, we study the electrical transport properties of Bi$_4$Br$_4$ bulk crystals. Two electron-type samples with different electron concentrations are investigated. Both samples have saturation resistivity behavior in low temperature. In the low-concentration sample, two-dimensional quantum oscillations are clearly observed in the magnetoresistance measurements, which are attributed to the band-bending-induced surface state on the (001) facet. In the high-concentration sample, the angular magnetoresistance exhibits two pairs of symmetrical sharp valleys with an angular difference close to the angle between the crystal planes (001) and (100). The additional valley can be explained by the contribution of the boundary states on the (100) facet. Besides, Hall measurements at low temperatures reveal an anomalous decrease of electron concentration with increasing temperature, which can be explained by the temperature-induced Lifshitz transition. These results shed light on the abundant surface and boundary state transport signals and the temperature-induced Lifshitz transition in Bi$_4$Br$_4$.

The consistency between eigenvalues calculated under open and periodic boundary conditions, named as {\it bulk-bulk correspondence} ($\mathcal{BBC}$), can be destroyed in systems with non-Hermitian skin effect (NHSE). In spite of the great success of the generalized Brillouin zone (GBZ) theory in clean non-Hermitian systems, the applicability of GBZ theory is questionable when the translational symmetry is broken. Thus, it is of great value to rebuild the $\mathcal{BBC}$ for disorder samples, which extends the application of GBZ theory in non-Hermitian systems. Here, we propose a scheme reconstructing $\mathcal{BBC}$, which can be regarded as the solution of an optimization problem. By solving this optimization problem analytically, we reconstruct the $\mathcal{BBC}$ and obtain the modified GBZ theory in several prototypical disordered non-Hermitian models. The nature of the anomalous metal state has been a major puzzle in condensed matter physics for more than three decades. Here, we report systematic investigation and modulation of the anomalous metal states in high-temperature interface superconductor FeSe films on SrTiO3 substrate. Remarkably, under zero magnetic field, the anomalous metal state persists up to 20 K in pristine FeSe films, an exceptionally high temperature standing out from previous observations. In stark contrast, for the FeSe films with nano-hole arrays, the characteristic temperature of the anomalous metal state is considerably reduced. We demonstrate that the observed anomalous metal states originate from the quantum tunneling of vortices adjusted by the Ohmic dissipation. Our work offers a perspective for understanding the origin and modulation of the anomalous metal states in two-dimensional bosonic systems.

Electronic properties of quantum dots (QDs) depend sensitively on their parent materials. Therefore, confined electronic states in graphene QDs (GQDs) of monolayer and Bernal-stacked bilayer graphene are quite different. Twisted bilayer graphene (TBG) is distinct from monolayer and Bernal-stacked bilayer graphene because of the new degree of freedom: twist angle. In the past few years, numerous efforts have been made to realize the GQDs of monolayer and Bernal-stacked bilayer graphene and achieved great success. Thus far, however, strategies for realizing GQDs of TBG have been elusive. Here, we demonstrate a general approach for fabricating stationary GQDs of TBG by introducing nanoscale p-n junctions with sharp boundaries in the TBG. We verify the confinement of low-energy massless Dirac fermions via whispering-gallery modes in the GQDs of TBG. Unexpectedly, electronic states around van Hove singularities of the TBG are also strongly modified around the GQDs. Such a feature has never been reported and is attributed to spatial variation of the interlayer coupling in the TBG induced by the GQDs.

We investigate the quasi-bound states of a Coulomb impurity in graphene in the presence of a magnetic field. \ These states exhibit the dramatic and rather rare property of discrete scale invariance when the Coulomb potential is supercritical. \ We show using both Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin (WKB) approximation and numerical studies that the supercritical states are converted to subcritical states as the field is increased. \ The local density of states is calculated and it shows direct signatures of discrete scale invariance. \ In a magnetic field, these signatures are gradually destroyed in a systematic way. \ Hence the effect that we propose can be detected via scanning tunneling microscope experiments. \ The range of magnetic field and energy resolution required are compatible with existing experimental setups. \ These experiments can be performed in a single sample by changing the field; they do not involve changing the nuclear charge.

Recently, a new class of second-order topological insulators (SOTIs) characterized by an electronic dipole has been theoretically introduced and proposed to host topological corner states. As a novel topological state, it has been attracting great interest and experimentally realized in artificial systems of various fields of physics based on multi-sublattice models, e.g., breathing kagome lattice. In order to realize such kind of SOTI in natural materials, we proposed a symmetry-faithful multi-orbital model. Then, we reveal several familiar transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) monolayers as a material family of two-dimensional SOTI with large bulk gaps. The topologically protected corner state with fractional charge is pinned at Fermi level due to the charge neutrality and filling anomaly. Additionally, we propose that the zero-energy corner state preserves in the heterostructure composed of a topological nontrivial flake embedded in a trivial material. The novel second-order corner states in familiar TMD materials hold promise for revealing unexpected quantum properties and applications.

Spin superconductor (SSC) is an exciton condensate state where the spin-triplet exciton superfluidity is charge neutral while spin $2(\hbar/2)$. In analogy to the Majorana zero mode (MZM) in topological superconductors, the interplay between SSC and band topology will also give rise to a specific kind of topological boundary state obeying non-Abelian braiding statistics. Remarkably, the non-Abelian geometric phase here originates from the Aharonov-Casher effect of the "half-charge" other than the Aharonov-Bohm effect. Such topological boundary state of SSC is bound with the vortex of electric flux gradient and can be experimentally more distinct than the MZM for being electrically charged. Axion field induced topological magneto-electric response has attracted lots of attentions since it was first proposed by Qi et al. in 2008. Here we find a new type of anti-commutative magneto-electric response \beta^{\xi}(\omega), which can induce a dynamical magneto-electric current driven by a time-varying magnetic field. Unlike the Chern-Simons Axion term, this magneto-electric response term is gauge-independent and non-quantized, and manifests in the systems breaking the symmetries of the time-reversal, inversion and mirror. In particular, we propose the antiferromagnetic material Mn_{2}Bi_{2}Te_{5} as a material candidate to observe dynamical magneto-electric current, in which a large magneto-electric response term \beta^{\xi}(\omega) originates from band inversion.

Fermi liquid theory forms the basis for our understanding of the majority of metals, which is manifested in the description of transport properties that the electrical resistivity goes as temperature squared in the limit of zero temperature. However, the observations of strange metal states in various quantum materials, notably high-temperature superconductors, bring this spectacularly successful theoretical framework into crisis. When electron scattering rate 1/{\tau} hits its limit, kBT/{\hbar} where {\hbar} is the reduced Planck's constant, T represents absolute temperature and kB denotes Boltzmann's constant, Planckian dissipation occurs and lends strange metals a surprising link to black holes, gravity, and quantum information theory. Here, we show the characteristic signature of strange metallicity arising unprecedentedly in a bosonic system. Our nanopatterned YBa2Cu3O7-{\delta}(YBCO) film arrays reveal T-linear resistance as well as B-linear magnetoresistance over an extended temperature and magnetic field range in a quantum critical region in the phase diagram. Moreover, the slope of the T-linear resistance {\alpha}_cp appears bounded by {\alpha}_cp {\approx} h/2e^2 [1/T]_c^onset where T_c^onset is the temperature at which Cooper pairs form, intimating a common scale-invariant transport mechanism corresponding to Planckian dissipation.In contrast to fermionic systems where the temperature and magnetic field dependent scattering rates combine in quadrature of {\hbar}/{\tau} {\approx} {\sqrt} (((k_B T)^2+({\mu}_B B)^2)), both terms linearly combine in the present bosonic system, i.e. {\hbar}/{\tau} {\approx} (k_B T+[{\gamma}{\mu}]_B B), where {\gamma} is a constant. By extending the reach of strange metal phenomenology to a bosonic system, our results suggest that there is a fundamental principle governing their transport which transcends particle statistics., Comment: 22 pages, 11 figures

Quantum Griffiths singularity (QGS) reveals the profound influence of quenched disorder on the quantum phase transitions, characterized by the divergence of the dynamical critical exponent at the boundary of the vortex glass-like phase, named as quantum Griffiths phase. However, in the absence of vortices, whether the QGS can exist under parallel magnetic field remains a puzzle. Here we study the magnetic field induced superconductor-metal transition in ultrathin crystalline PdTe2 films grown by molecular beam epitaxy. Remarkably, the QGS emerges under both perpendicular and parallel magnetic field in 4-monolayer PdTe2 films. The direct activated scaling analysis with a new irrelevant correction has been proposed, providing important evidence of QGS. With increasing film thickness to 6 monolayers, the QGS disappears under perpendicular field but persists under parallel field, and this discordance may originate from the differences in microscopic processes. Our work demonstrates the universality of parallel field induced QGS and can stimulate further investigations on novel quantum phase transitions under parallel magnetic field.

The interplay between quenched disorder and critical behavior in quantum phase transitions is conceptually fascinating and of fundamental importance for understanding phase transitions. However, it is still unclear whether or not the quenched disorder influences the universality class of quantum phase transitions. More crucially, the absence of superconducting-metal transitions under in-plane magnetic fields in 2D superconductors imposes constraints on the universality of quantum criticality. Here, we discover the tunable universality class of superconductor-metal transition by changing the disorder strength in $\beta$-W films with varying thickness. The finite-size scaling uncovers the switch of universality class: quantum Griffiths singularity to multiple quantum criticality at a critical thickness of $t_{c \perp 1}\sim 8 nm$ and then from multiple quantum criticality to single criticality at $t_{c\perp 2}\sim 16 nm$. Moreover, the superconducting-metal transition is observed for the first time under in-plane magnetic fields and the universality class is changed at $t_{c \parallel }\sim 8 nm$. The discovery of tunable universality class under both out-of-plane and in-plane magnetic fields provides broad information for the disorder effect on superconducting-metal transitions and quantum criticality.

We show that Floquet engineering with circularly polarized light (CPL) can selectively split the valley degeneracy of a twisted multilayer graphene (TMG), and thus generate a controlled valley-polarized Floquet Chern flat band with tunable large Chern number. It offers a feasible optical way to manipulate the valley degree of freedom in moir\'{e} flat bands, and hence opens new opportunities to study the valleytronics of mori\'{e} flat band systems. We thus expect that many of the valley-related properties of TMG, e.g. orbital ferromagnetism, can be switched by CPL with proper doping. We reveal a Chern number hierarchy rule for the Floquet flat bands in a generic (M+N)-layer TMG. We also illustrate that the CPL effects on TMG strongly rely on the stacking chirality, which is an unique feature of TMG. All these phenomena could be tested in the twisted double bilayer graphene systems, which is the simplest example of TMG and has already been realized in experiment.

Inside a three-dimensional strong topological insulator, a tube with $h/2e$ magnetic flux carries a pair of protected one-dimensional linear fermionic modes. This phenomenon is known as the "wormhole effect". In this work, we find that the "wormhole effect", as a unique degree of freedom, introduces exotic transport phenomena and thus manipulates the transport properties of topological insulators. Our numerical results demonstrate that the transport properties of a double-wormhole system can be manipulated by the wormhole interference. Specifically, the conductance and local density of states both oscillate with the Fermi energy due to the interference between the wormholes. Furthermore, by studying the multi-wormhole systems, we find that the number of wormholes can also modulate the differential conductance through a $\mathbb{Z}$$_{2}$ mechanism. Finally, we propose two types of topological devices in real applications, the "wormhole switch" device and the "traversable wormhole" device, which can be finely tuned by controlling the wormhole degree of freedom., Comment: 12 pages, 10 fiugres

Though several theoretical models have been proposed to design electronic flat-bands, the definite experimental realization in two-dimensional atomic crystal is still lacking. Here we propose a novel and realistic flat-band model based on threefold degenerate $p$-orbitals in two-dimensional ionic materials. Our theoretical analysis and first-principles calculations show that the proposed flat-band can be realized in 1T layered materials of alkali-metal chalogenides and metal-carbon group compounds. Some of the former are theoretically predicted to be stable as layered materials (e.g., K$_2$S), and some of the latter have been experimentally fabricated in previous works (e.g., Gd$_2$CCl$_2$). More interestingly, the flat-band is partially filled in the heterostructure of a K$_2$S monolayer and graphene layers. The spin polarized nearly flat-band can be realized in the ferromagnetic state of a Gd$_2$CCl$_2$ monolayer, which has been fabricated in experiments. We investigate the 3D quantum Hall effect in Weyl semimetals and elucidate a global picture of the edge states. The edge states hosting 3D quantum Hall effect are combinations of Fermi arcs and chiral bulk Landau levels parallel to the magnetic field. The Hall conductance, $\sigma_{xz}^H$, shows quantized plateaus at Weyl nodes while tuning the magnetic field. However, the chiral Landau levels manipulate the quantization of Weyl orbits, especially under a tilted magnetic field, and the resulting edge states lead to distinctive Hall transport phenomena. A tilted magnetic field contributes an intrinsic initial value to $\sigma_{xz}^H$ and such initial value is determined by the tilting angle $\theta$. Particularly, even if the perpendicular magnetic field is fixed, $\sigma_{xz}^H$ will change its sign with an abrupt spatial shift of edge states when $\theta$ exceeds a critical angle $\theta_c$ in an experiment. Our work uncovers the unique edge-state nature of 3D quantum Hall effect in Weyl semimetals.

We report that the twisted few layer graphite (tFL-graphite) is a new family of moir\'{e} heterostructures (MHSs), which has richer and highly tunable moir\'{e} flat band structures entirely distinct from all the known MHSs. A tFL-graphite is composed of two few-layer graphite (Bernal stacked multilayer graphene), which are stacked on each other with a small twisted angle. The moir\'{e} band structure of the tFL-graphite strongly depends on the layer number of its composed two van der Waals layers. Near the magic angle, a tFL-graphite always has two nearly flat bands coexisting with a few pairs of narrowed dispersive (parabolic or linear) bands at the Fermi level, thus, enhances the DOS at $E_F$. This coexistence property may also enhance the possible superconductivity as been demonstrated in other multiband superconductivity systems. Therefore, we expect strong multiband correlation effects in tFL-graphite. Meanwhile, a proper perpendicular electric field can induce several isolated nearly flat bands with nonzero valley Chern number in some simple tFL-graphites, indicating that tFL-graphite is also a novel topological flat band system., Comment: Submitted version,supplementary materials are added

We numerically demonstrate that the topological corner states residing in the corners of higher-order topological insulator possess non-Abelian braiding properties. Such topological corner states are Dirac fermionic modes other than Majorana zero-modes. We claim that Dirac fermionic modes protected by nontrivial topology also support non-Abelian braiding. An analytical description on such non-Abelian braiding is conducted based on the vortex-induced Dirac-type fermionic modes. The braiding operator for Dirac fermionic modes is also analytically derivated and compared with the Majorana zero-modes. Experimentally, such non-Abelian braiding operation on Dirac fermionic modes is proposed to be testified through topological electric circuit., Comment: 6 pages, 3 figues

We study the in-plane critical magnetic field of two-dimensional Ising superconducting systems, and propose the microscopic theory for these systems with or without inversion symmetry. Protected by certain specific spin-orbit interaction which polarizes the electron spin to the out-of-plane direction, the in-plane critical fields largely surpass the Pauli limit and show remarkable upturn in the zero temperature limit. The impurity scattering and Rashba spin-orbit coupling, treated on equal-footing in the microscopic framework, both weaken the critical field but in qualitatively different manners. The microscopic theory is consistent with recent experimental results in stanene and Pb superconducting ultra-thin films.

Majorana zero modes (MZMs)--bearing potential applications for topological quantum computing--are verified in quasi-one-dimensional (1D) Fermion systems, including semiconductor nanowires, magnetic atomic chains, planar Josephson junctions. However, the existence of multi-bands in these systems makes the MZMs fragile to the influence of disorder. Moreover, in practical perspective, the proximity induced superconductivity may be difficult and restricted for 1D systems. Here, we propose a flexible route to realize MZMs through 1D topological kink states by engineering a 2D electron gas with antidot lattices, in which both the aforementioned issues can be avoided owing to the robustness of kink states and the intrinsically attainable superconductivity in high-dimensional systems. The MZMs are verified to be quite robust against disorders and the bending of kink states, and can be conveniently tuned by varying the Rashba spin-orbit coupling strength. Coupled quantum dots (QDs), usually referred to as artificial molecules, are important not only in exploring fundamental physics of coupled quantum objects, but also in realizing advanced QD devices. However, previous studies have been limited to artificial molecules with nonrelativistic fermions. Here, we show that relativistic artificial molecules can be realized when two circular graphene QDs are coupled to each other. Using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and spectroscopy (STS), we observe the formation of bonding and antibonding states of the relativistic artificial molecule and directly visualize these states of the two coupled graphene QDs. The formation of the relativistic molecular states strongly alters distributions of massless Dirac fermions confined in the graphene QDs. Because of the relativistic nature of the molecular states, our experiment demonstrates that the degeneracy of different angular-momentum states in the relativistic artificial molecule can be further lifted by external magnetic fields. Then, both the bonding and antibonding states are split into two peaks.

We calculate the Andreev spectroscopy between a ferromagnetic lead and Bi/Ni bilayer system for three types of superconducting states, including ABM state, ABM state mixing with S-wave state, ABM state mixing with pz-wave state. Among them, ABM state and ABM state mixing with S- wave state can obtain the Andreev conductance consistent with the point contact experiment[G. J. Zhao,et al, arXiv:1810.10403], but failed to explain the experiment of time-domain THz spectroscopy experiment[Prashant Chauhan,et al, Phys. Rev. Lett. 122, 017002(2019)]. Only the ABM state mixing with pz-wave state can explain both experiments. Besides, we reveal the conductance peak near the zero energy is induced by the surface state of the ABM phase. Berry phase and Berry curvature play a key role in the development of topology in physics and do contribute to the transport properties in solid state systems. In this paper, we report the finding of novel nonzero Hall effect in topological material ZrTe5 flakes when in-plane magnetic field is parallel and perpendicular to the current. Surprisingly, both symmetric and antisymmetric components with respect to magnetic field are detected in the in-plane Hall resistivity. Further theoretical analysis suggests that the magnetotransport properties originate from the anomalous velocity induced by Berry curvature in a tilted Weyl semimetal. Besides the giant peak of the nonlocal resistance $R_{NL}$, an anomalous negative value of $R_{NL}$ has been observed in graphene systems, while its formation mechanism is not quite understood yet. In this work, utilizing the non-equilibrium Green's function method, we calculate the local-current flow in an H-shaped non-interacting graphene system locating in the ballistic regime. Similar to the previous conclusions made from the viscous regime, the numerical results show that a local-current vortex appears between the nonlocal measuring terminals, which induces a backflow current and a remarkable negative voltage drop at the probe. Specifically, the stronger the vortex exhibits, the more negative $R_{NL}$ manifests. Besides, a spin-orbital coupling is added as an additional tool to study this exotic vortex, which is not a driving force for the arising vortex at all. Moreover, a breakdown of the nonlocal Wiedemann-Franz law is obtained in this ballistic system, and two experimental criteria are further provided to confirm the existence of this exotic vortex. Notably, a discussion is made that the vortex actually originates from the collision between the flowing current and the boundaries, due to the long electron mean free path and the consequent ballistic transport caused by the specific linear spectrum of graphene., Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures

Recent emergence of two-dimensional (2D) crystalline superconductors has provided a promising platform to investigate novel quantum physics and potential applications. To reveal essential quantum phenomena therein, ultralow temperature transport investigation on high quality ultrathin superconducting films is critically required, although it has been quite challenging experimentally. Here we report a systematic transport study on the ultrathin crystalline PdTe2 films grown by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE). Interestingly, a new type of Ising superconductivity in 2D centrosymmetric materials is revealed by the detection of large in-plane critical field more than 7 times Pauli limit. Remarkably, in perpendicular magnetic field, we provide solid evidence of anomalous metallic state characterized by the resistance saturation at low temperatures with high quality filters. The robust superconductivity with intriguing quantum phenomena in the macro-size ambient-stable ultrathin PdTe2 films remains almost the same for 20 months, showing great potentials in electronic and spintronic applications., Comment: The final version of the manuscript can be found in Nano Letters

Spin-orbit coupling has proven indispensable in realizing topological materials and more recently Ising pairing in two-dimensional superconductors. This pairing mechanism relies on inversion symmetry breaking and sustains anomalously large in-plane polarizing magnetic fields whose upper limit is expected to diverge at low temperatures, although experimental demonstration of this has remained elusive due to the required fields. In this work, the recently discovered superconductor few-layer stanene, i.e. epitaxially strained $\alpha$-Sn, is shown to exhibit a new type of Ising pairing between carriers residing in bands with different orbital indices near the $\Gamma$-point. The bands are split as a result of spin-orbit locking without the participation of inversion symmetry breaking. The in-plane upper critical field is strongly enhanced at ultra-low temperature and reveals the sought for upturn.
