1. Pepsin concentration in oral lavage fluid of rabbit reflux model constructed by dilating the lower esophageal sphincter

Abstract

The aim of this study was to explore the changes in pH and pepsin concentrations in oral lavage fluid of rabbit reflux model. A total of 18 New Zealand rabbits were randomly divided into two groups. The lower esophageal sphincters (LESs) of the rabbits in the experimental group (EG) were dilated by balloon after the LESs were localized by manometry. The pH levels of the throat and the lower esophagus were monitored 1 week before and 2 weeks after inflation. Oral lavage fluid was collected 1 week before, and 2 and 8 weeks after inflation. The pH monitoring showed that the percentage of reflux time, the number of reflux events, and the longest time of reflux after the dilation (AE) in the EG were significantly higher than before the dilation (P < 0.01). The pepsin concentrations at 2 and 8 weeks AE in the EG were significantly higher than that before and that in the control group (P < 0.05). Based on receiver operating characteristic curve analysis, the best diagnostic threshold value was 30.3 ng/ml. The reflux model constructed by balloon inflation of the LES in rabbits is characterized by a decrease in throat pH and an increase in salivary pepsin concentration.

36. Real-Time Instability Detection of Centrifugal Compressors Based on Motor Speed Measurements

Abstract

Flow instability in the centrifugal compressor should be detected and avoided for stable and safe operation. Due to the popularity of electric centrifugal compressors, instability detection could be achieved by measuring motor signals instead of traditional aerodynamic signals. In this paper, the feasibility of instability detection by motor signals (i.e. rotating speed and phase current) was studied experimentally. The physical structure and control method of the electric centrifugal compressor were discussed to reveal the potential of instability detection by motor signals. Dynamic pressure signals and motor signals measured during unsteady experiments were analyzed in the time domain and frequency domain. Characteristics of these signals were then compared under different operating conditions to indicate the feasibility of instability detection by motor signals. Finally, the ability of Short-Time Fourier Transform (STFT) of rotating speed signals in real-time instability detection was discussed. Results showed that the rotating speed signal is a good alternate for instability detection in spite of signal distortion, while the phase current signal can only detect surge due to the low resolution of the controller. Based on the variations of the amplitude and frequency of rotating speed signals, the real-time instability can be captured accurately by STFT with a window size of 0.5 s. Besides, the interference caused by the controller can be removed by STFT.

Abstract

Summary: To ensure the navigational safety of ships in the sea and reduce human errors, a set of navigational information systems with decision support function is developed. Fast and stable collision avoidance actions are also adopted according to the ship risk level and encounter situation. Therefore, the ship automation collision avoidance tactics based on Quantum‐behaved Wolf Pack Algorithm (QWPA) is proposed complied to COLREG in this paper, and then feasibility and effectiveness of which have been positively verified in laboratory conditions based on the three‐degree‐of‐freedom ship mathematical model; compared with existing collision avoidance scheme, the quality and generating speed of the collision avoidance strategy are enhanced greatly under different ship encounter situation.
