Abstract

Next-generation neutrino telescopes with significantly improved sensitivity are required to pinpoint the sources of the diffuse astrophysical neutrino flux detected by IceCube and uncover the century-old puzzle of cosmic ray origins. A detector near the equator will provide a unique viewpoint of the neutrino sky, complementing IceCube and other neutrino telescopes in the Northern Hemisphere. Here we present results from an expedition to the north-eastern region of the South China Sea, in the western Pacific Ocean. A favorable neutrino telescope site was found on an abyssal plain at a depth of $\sim$ 3.5km. At depths below 3km, the sea current speed, water absorption and scattering lengths for Cherenkov light, were measured to be $v_{\mathrm{c}}<$10cm/s, $\lambda_{\mathrm{abs} }\simeq$ 27m and $\lambda_{\mathrm{sca} }\simeq$ 63m, respectively. Accounting for these measurements, we present the design and expected performance of a next-generation neutrino telescope, TRopIcal DEep-sea Neutrino Telescope (TRIDENT). With its advanced photon-detection technology and large dimensions, TRIDENT expects to observe the IceCube steady source candidate NGC 1068 with 5$\sigma$ significance within 1 year of operation. 5. Controlling vertical magnetization shift by spin-orbit torque in ferromagnetic/antiferromagnetic/ferromagnetic heterostructure

Abstract

We report the control of vertical magnetization shift (VMS) and exchange bias through spin-orbit torque (SOT) in Pt/Co/Ir25Mn75/Co heterostructure device. The exchange bias accompanying with a large relative VMS of about 30 % is observed after applying a single pulse 40 mA in perpendicular field of 2 kOe. Furthermore, the field-free SOT-induced variations of VMS and exchange bias is also observed, which would be related to the effective built-in out-of-plane field due to unequal upward and downward interfacial spin populations. The SOT-induced switched fraction of out-of-plane interfacial spins shows a linear dependence on relative VMS, indicating the number of uncompensated pinned spins are proportional to the switched interfacial spins. Our finding offers a comprehensive understanding for electrically manipulating interfacial spins of AFM materials.

Abstract

Antiferromagnets are outstanding candidates for the next generation of spintronic applications, with great potential for downscaling and decreasing power consumption. Recently, the manipulation of bulk properties of antiferromagnets has been realized by several different approaches. However, the interfacial spin order of antiferromagnets is an important integral part of spintronic devices, thus the successful control of interfacial antiferromagnetic spins is urgently desired. Here, we report the high controllability of interfacial spins in antiferromagnetic / ferromagnetic / heavy metal heterostructure devices using spin-orbit torque (SOT) assisted by perpendicular or longitudinal magnetic fields. Switching of the interfacial spins from one to another direction through multiple intermediate states is demonstrated. The field-free SOT-induced switching of antiferromagnetic interfacial spins is also observed, which we attribute to the effective built-in out-of-plane field due to unequal upward and downward interfacial spin populations. Our work provides a precise way to modulate the interfacial spins at an antiferromagnet / ferromagnet interface via SOT, which will greatly promote innovative designs for next generation spintronic devices.

7. Evolution of magnetic properties in the vicinity of the Verwey transition in Fe3O4 thin films

Abstract

We have systematically studied the evolution of magnetic properties, especially the coercivity and the remanence ratio in the vicinity of the Verwey transition temperature (TV ), of high-quality epitaxial Fe3O4 thin films grown on MgO (001), MgAl2O4 (MAO) (001), and SrTiO3 (STO) (001) substrates. We observed rapid change of magnetization, coercivity, and remanence ratio at TV , which are consistent with the behaviors of resistivity versus temperature [\r{ho}(T )] curves for the different thin films. In particular, we found quite different magnetic behaviors for the thin films onMgOfrom those onMAOand STO, inwhich the domain size and the strain state play very important roles. The coercivity is mainly determined by the domain size but the demagnetization process is mainly dependent on the strain state. Furthermore, we observed a reversal of remanence ratio at TV with thickness for the thin films grown on MgO: from a rapid enhancement for 40-nm- to a sharp drop for 200-nm-thick film, and the critical thickness is about 80 nm. Finally, we found an obvious hysteretic loop of coercivity (or remanence ratio) with temperature around TV , corresponding to the hysteretic loop of the \r{ho}(T ) curve, in Fe3O4 thin film grown on MgO.

Abstract

We report the tunability of the exchange bias effect by the first-order metal-insulator transition (known as the Verwey transition) of Fe3O4 in CoO (5 nm)/Fe3O4 (40 nm)/MgO (001) thin film. In the vicinity of the Verwey transition, the exchange bias field is substantially enhanced because of a sharp increase in magnetocrystalline anisotropy constant from high-temperature cubic to lowtemperature monoclinic structure. Moreover, with respect to the Fe3O4 (40 nm)/MgO (001) thin film, the coercivity field of the CoO (5 nm)/Fe3O4 (40 nm)/MgO (001) bilayer is greatly increased for all the temperature range, which would be due to the coupling between Co spins and Fe spins across the interface.

Abstract

We report a direct observation of magnetic domain evolution near the Verwey transition (TV) in Fe3O4 films. We found the stripe domains in the Fe3O4/Mg2TiO4 film while the irregular domains in the Fe3O4/MgO film and the similar characters of magnetic domains in the vicinity of TV for both samples: the bigger domain size and the higher contrast of the phase signal below TV and the more disordered domain images at TV. Remarkably, the magnetic behaviors can be well understood and the domain-wall energy and the demagnetizing energy can be calculated from the magnetic domains near TV in the Fe3O4/Mg2TiO4 film. Our work presents a demonstration of the low temperature magnetic domains and gives a new perspective to understand the Verwey transition in Fe3O4 thin films.

Abstract

Fe3O4 (magnetite) is one of the most elusive quantum materials and at the same time one of the most studied transition metal oxide materials for thin film applications. The theoretically expected half-metallic behavior generates high expectations that it can be used in spintronic devices. Yet, despite the tremendous amount of work devoted to preparing thin films, the enigmatic first order metal-insulator transition and the hall mark of magnetite known as the Verwey transition, is in thin films extremely broad and occurs at substantially lower temperatures as compared to that in high quality bulk single crystals. Here we have succeeded in finding and making a particular class of substrates that allows the growth of magnetite thin films with the Verwey transition as sharp as in the bulk. Moreover, we are now able to tune the transition temperature and, using tensile strain, increase it to substantially higher values than in the bulk.

Abstract

Polar catastrophe at the interface of oxide materials with strongly correlated electrons has triggered a flurry of new research activities. The expectations are that the design of such advanced interfaces will become a powerful route to engineer devices with novel functionalities. Here we investigate the initial stages of growth and the electronic structure of the spintronic Fe3O4/MgO (001) interface. Using soft x-ray absorption spectroscopy we have discovered that the so-called A-sites are completely missing in the first Fe3O4 monolayer. This allows us to develop an unexpected but elegant growth principle in which during deposition the Fe atoms are constantly on the move to solve the divergent electrostatic potential problem, thereby ensuring epitaxy and stoichiometry at the same time. 16. Development of Internal Tin Nb3Sn Strand for CRAFT in WST

Abstract

Western Superconducting Technologies Co. Ltd. (WST) has developed several types of internal tin (IT) process Nb3Sn strands for the Comprehensive Research Facility for Fusion Technology (CRAFT) project. By increasing the number of niobium filaments and the tin content, the Nb3Sn phase was more effectively formed after heat treatment, thereby enhancing the critical current of the strands. The distribution of the niobium filaments was also optimized to minimize hysteresis loss. To date, WST has prepared over twenty tons of strands with a diameter of 0.99 mm for toroidal field (TF) coils. The critical current ranges from 370 A to 450 A at 12 T and 4.2 K. Additionally, the hysteresis loss ranges from 272 mJ/cm3 to 567 mJ/cm3 at ± 3 T and 4.2 K. Compared to ITER strands, the average hysteresis loss of 432 mJ/cm3 was reduced by 10%. Furthermore, approximately eight tons of strands with a diameter of 0.82 mm have been produced for Superconducting Conductor Testing Facility. The critical current ranges from 293 A to 359 A at 12 T and 4.2 K, which is 20% higher on average than that of ITER strands. All the performances of the strands fabricated by WST meet the requirements of CRAFT project.

The information age challenges computer technology to process an exponentially increasing computational load on a limited energy budget - a requirement that demands an exponential reduction in energy per operation. 19. Comparison of perioperative outcomes between robot-assisted partial nephrectomy and laparoscopic partial nephrectomy in obese patients.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: The primary surgical techniques used to treat localized renal tumors are laparoscopic partial nephrectomy (LPN) and robot-assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN). Obese patients have more intra-abdominal fat accumulation, which may make the localization and operation in minimally invasive surgery more complicated. Currently, limited research has been conducted on which method is more suitable for performing a partial nephrectomy on obese individuals. The aim of our investigation was to analyze and compare the perioperative results associated with both approaches to offer valuable information about the selection of LPN or RAPN as an optimal choice when performing a partial nephrectomy in obese patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We retrospectively collected clinical data from 78 cases of obese individuals [Body mass index (BMI) > 28] who underwent RAPN, as well as 50 cases of obese individuals (BMI > 28) who underwent LPN. The analysis covered various aspects, including initial patient characteristics, glomerular filtration rate (GFR), warm ischemia time (WIT), operation time, volume of blood loss during the surgical procedure, time taken to recover bowel function, positive surgical margin rate, incidence of postoperative complications, and postoperative hospital stay. RESULTS: We observed that RAPNs exhibited shorter warm ischemia time and reduced intraoperative blood loss in obese patients, along with decreased postoperative duration of abdominal drainage and hospitalization periods compared to LPNs. CONCLUSIONS: In obese patients, RAPN demonstrates advantages over LPN in minimizing intraoperative blood loss, WIT, and facilitating postoperative recovery. 20. Strain-dependent ultrafast carrier dynamics and spin–lattice interaction in LaMnO3 films.

Abstract

We investigate the ultrafast carrier dynamics and spin–lattice interaction in strained and unstrained LaMnO3 films via temperature-dependent femtosecond transient optical spectroscopy. The transient reflectivity measurements show two characteristic relaxation processes in both types of films, which are attributed to electron–phonon coupling and phonon-assisted spin–lattice interaction, respectively. The carrier dynamics and coupling between lattice and spin system are well described with the three-temperature model; the spin–lattice relaxation time constant is dominated by the temperature-dependent spin specific heat. Both the electron–phonon coupling and the spin–lattice interaction are enhanced in the strained film, as a result of the modified band structure and orbital ordering under biaxial compressive strain. Abstract

We have carried out a systematic experimental investigation to address the question why thin films of Fe$_3$O$_4$ (magnetite) generally have a very broad Verwey transition with lower transition temperatures as compared to the bulk. We observed using x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, x-ray diffraction and resistivity measurements that the Verwey transition in thin films is drastically influenced not only by the oxygen stoichiometry but especially also by the substrate-induced microstructure. In particular, we found (1) that the transition temperature, the resistivity jump, and the conductivity gap of fully stoichiometric films greatly depends on the domain size, which increases gradually with increasing film thickness, (2) that the broadness of the transition scales with the width of the domain size distribution, and (3) that the hysteresis width is affected strongly by the presence of antiphase boundaries. Films grown on MgO (001) substrates showed the highest and sharpest transitions, with a 200 nm film having a T$_V$ of 122K, which is close to the bulk value. Films grown on substrates with large lattice constant mismatch revealed very broad transitions, and yet, all films show a transition with a hysteresis behavior, indicating that the transition is still first order rather than higher order., Comment: 9 pages, 12 figures

Abstract

We investigate the parity-violating nucleon-nucleon potential as obtained in chiral effective field theory. By using resonance saturation we compare the chiral potential to the more traditional one-meson exchange potential. In particular, we show how parameters appearing in the different approaches can be compared with each other and demonstrate that analyses of parity violation in proton-proton scattering within the different approaches are in good agreement. In the second part of this work, we extend the parity-violating potential to next-to-next-to-leading order. We show that generally it includes both one-pion- and two-pion-exchange corrections, but the former play no significant role. The two-pion-exchange corrections depend on five new low-energy constants which only become important if the leading-order weak pion-nucleon constant $h_\pi$ turns out to be very small., Comment: Published version

23. Tunable terahertz radiation from graphene induced by moving electrons

Abstract

Based on a structure consisting of a single graphene layer situated on a periodic dielectric grating, we show theoretically that intense terahertz (THz) radiations can be generated by an electron bunch moving atop the graphene layer. The underlying physics lies in the fact that a moving electron bunch with rather low electron energy ($\sim$1 keV) can efficiently excite graphene plasmons (GPs) of THz frequencies with a strong confinement of near-fields. GPs can be further scattered into free space by the grating for those satisfying the phase matching condition. The radiation patterns can be controlled by varying the velocity of the moving electrons. Importantly, the radiation frequencies can be tuned by varying the Fermi level of the graphene layer, offering tunable THz radiations that can cover a wide frequency range. Our results could pave the way toward developing tunable and miniature THz radiation sources based on graphene.

Abstract

Hadronic transitions of $\chi_{cJ}\to \eta_{c}\pi^{+}\pi^{-}$ (J=0, 1, 2) are searched for using a sample of $1.06\times 10^{8}$ $\psi(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring. The $\etac$ is reconstructed with $K_{S}^{0}K^{+}\pi^{-}+c.c.$ and $K^{+}K^{-}\pi^{0}$ final states. No signals are observed in any of the three $\chi_{cJ}$ states in either $\etac$ decay mode. At the 90% confidence level, the upper limits are determined to be $\BR(\chi_{c0}\to \eta_{c}\pi^{+}\pi^{-})<0.07%$, $\BR(\chi_{c1}\to \eta_{c}\pi^{+}\pi^{-})<0.32%$, and $\BR(\chi_{c2}\to \eta_{c}\pi^{+}\pi^{-})<0.54%$. The upper limit of $\BR(\chi_{c1}\to \eta_{c}\pi^{+}\pi^{-}$ is lower than the existing theoretical prediction by almost an order of magnitude. The branching fractions of $\chi_{cJ}\to K_{S}^{0}K^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{-}+c.c.$, $K^{+}K^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{0}$, $\omega K^{+}K^{-}$ and $\phi\pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{0}$ (J=0, 1, 2) are measured for the first time.

Abstract

Using $(106\pm4)\times 10^6$ $\psip$ events accumulated with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII $e^+e^-$ collider, we present measurements of the branching fractions for psi' decays to $K^{+}K^{-}\pi^{0}$ and $K^{+}K^{-}\eta$. In these final states, the decay $\psi'\to K_2^{*}(1430)^+K^-+c.c.$ is observed for the first time, and its branching fraction is measured to be $(7.12\pm{0.62}{\rm (stat.)}^{+1.13}_{-0.61}{\rm (syst.)})\times 10^{-5}$, which indicates a violation of the helicity selection rule in $\psip$ decays. The branching fractions of $\psi'\to K^*(892)^+K^-+c.c., \phi\eta, \phi\pi^0$ are also measured. Abstract

Using a 478 pb$^{-1}$ data sample collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=4.009$ GeV, the production of $e^{+}e^{-}\to \eta J\psi$ is observed for the first time with a statistical significance of greater than $10\sigma$. The Born cross section is measured to be $(32.1\pm 2.8 \pm 1.3)$ pb, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic. Assuming the $\eta J\psi$ signal is from a hadronic transition of the $\psi(4040)$, the fractional transition rate is determined to be ${\cal B}(\psi(4040)\to \eta J\psi)=(5.2\pm 0.5\pm 0.2\pm 0.5)\times 10^{-3}$, where the first, second, and third errors are statistical, systematic, and the uncertainty from the $\psi(4040)$ resonant parameters, respectively. The production of $e^{+}e^{-} \to \pi^0 J\psi$ is searched for, but no significant signal is observed, and ${\cal B}(\psi(4040)\to \pi^0 J\psi) < 2.8 \times 10^{-4}$ is obtained at the 90% confidence level., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures

Abstract

The decay of $J/\psi$ to three photons is studied using $\psi(3686)\to\pi^+\pi^-J/\psi$ in a sample of $1.0641\times10^8$ $\psi(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector. Evidence of the direct decay of $\eta_c$ to two photons, $\eta_c\to\gamma\gamma$, is reported, and the product branching fraction is determined to be $\mathcal{B}(J/\psi\to\gamma\eta_c,\eta_c\to \gamma\gamma)=(4.5\pm1.2\pm0.6)\times10^{-6}$, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. The branching fraction for $J/\psi\to3\gamma$ is measured to be $(11.3\pm1.8\pm2.0)\times 10^{-6}$ with improved precision., Comment: two-column 7 pages, 5 figures, 2 tables

Abstract

Decays of the chi_{cJ} states (J=0,\ 1,\ 2) to \Lambda \Lambda bar\ pi^{+} \pi^{-}, including processes with intermediate \Sigma(1385), are studied through the E1 transition psi'-->\gamma chi_{cJ} using 106 million psi' events collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII. This is the first observation of chi_{cJ} decays to the final state \Lambda\Lambda bar \pi^{+}\pi^{-}. The branching ratio of the intermediate process chi_{cJ}-->\Sigma(1385)^{+/-} \bar{\Sigma}(1385)^{-/+} is also measured for the first time, and the results agree with the theoretical predictions based on the color-octet effect.

Abstract

Using a sample of $(225.2\pm 2.8)\times 10^6$ $J/\psi$ events collected with the BESIII detector, we present results of a study of $J/\psi\rightarrow \gamma\Lambda\bar{\Lambda}$ and report the first observation of the isospin violating decay $J/\psi\rightarrow\Lambda\bar{\Sigma}^{0}+c.c.$, in which $\bar{\Sigma}^{0}$ decays to $\gamma \bar{\Lambda}$. The measured branching fractions are $\mathcal{B}(J/\psi\rightarrow\bar{\Lambda}\Sigma^{0}$) = $(1.46\pm0.11\pm0.12) \times10^{-5}$ and $\mathcal{B}(J/\psi\rightarrow\Lambda\bar{\Sigma^{0}}$) = $(1.37\pm0.12\pm0.11) \times10^{-5}$. We search for $\Lambda(1520) \rightarrow \gamma \Lambda$ decay, and find no evident signal, and an upper limit for the product branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(J/\psi\rightarrow\Lambda\bar{\Lambda}(1520)+c.c.)\times \mathcal{B}(\Lambda(1520)\rightarrow\gamma\Lambda)<4.1 \times10^{-6}$ is set at the 90% confidence level. We also report the observation of $\eta_{c}\rightarrow\Lambda\bar{\Lambda}$ in $J/\psi \rightarrow \gamma \eta_{c}$, $\eta_{c}\rightarrow\Lambda\bar{\Lambda}$ and measure the branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(\eta_{c}\rightarrow\Lambda\bar{\Lambda}) =(1.16\pm0.12 (stat)\pm0.19(syst)\pm0.28(PDG))\times10^{-3}$., Comment: 9 pages, 6 figures; This is a publication-version at Phys. Abstract

Using a sample of 106 million \psi(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring, we have made the first measurement of the M1 transition between the radially excited charmonium S-wave spin-triplet and the radially excited S-wave spin-singlet states: \psi(3686)\to\gamma\eta_c(2S). Analyses of the processes \psi(2S)\to \gamma\eta_c(2S) with \eta_c(2S)\to \K_S^0 K\pi and K^+K^-\pi^0 gave an \eta_c(2S) signal with a statistical significance of greater than 10 standard deviations under a wide range of assumptions about the signal and background properties. The data are used to obtain measurements of the \eta_c(2S) mass (M(\eta_c(2S))=3637.6\pm 2.9_\mathrm{stat}\pm 1.6_\mathrm{sys} MeV/c^2), width (\Gamma(\eta_c(2S))=16.9\pm 6.4_\mathrm{stat}\pm 4.8_\mathrm{sys} MeV), and the product branching fraction (\BR(\psi(3686)\to \gamma\eta_c(2S))\times \BR(\eta_c(2S)\to K\bar K\pi) = (1.30\pm 0.20_\mathrm{stat}\pm 0.30_\mathrm{sys})\times 10^{-5}). Combining our result with a BaBar measurement of \BR(\eta_c(2S)\to K\bar K \pi), we find the branching fraction of the M1 transition to be \BR(\psi(3686)\to\gamma\eta_c(2S)) = (6.8\pm 1.1_\mathrm{stat}\pm 4.5_\mathrm{sys})\times 10^{-4}., Comment: 7 pages, 1 figure, 1 table

Abstract

Based on a data sample of 106 M $\psi^{\prime}$ events collected with the BESIII detector, the decays $\psi^{\prime}\ar\gamma\chi_{c0, 2}$,$\chi_{c0, 2}\ar\gamma\gamma$ are studied to determine the two-photon widths of the $\chi_{c0, 2}$ states. The two-photon decay branching fractions are determined to be ${\cal B}(\chi_{c0}\ar\gamma\gamma) = (2.24\pm 0.19\pm 0.12\pm 0.08)\times 10^{-4}$ and ${\cal B}(\chi_{c2}\ar\gamma\gamma) = (3.21\pm 0.18\pm 0.17\pm 0.13)\times 10^{-4}$. From these, the two-photon widths are determined to be $\Gamma_{\gamma \gamma}(\chi_{c0}) = (2.33\pm0.20\pm0.13\pm0.17)$ keV, $\Gamma_{\gamma \gamma}(\chi_{c2}) = (0.63\pm0.04\pm0.04\pm0.04)$ keV, and $\cal R$ $=\Gamma_{\gamma \gamma}(\chi_{c2})/\Gamma_{\gamma \gamma}(\chi_{c0})=0.271\pm 0.029\pm 0.013\pm 0.027$, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and those from the PDG ${\cal B}(\psi^{\prime}\ar\gamma\chi_{c0,2})$ and $\Gamma(\chi_{c0,2})$ errors, respectively. The ratio of the two-photon widths for helicity $\lambda=0$ and helicity $\lambda=2$ components in the decay $\chi_{c2}\ar\gamma\gamma$ is measured for the first time to be $f_{0/2} =\Gamma^{\lambda=0}_{\gamma\gamma}(\chi_{c2})/\Gamma^{\lambda=2}_{\gamma\gamma}(\chi_{c2}) = 0.00\pm0.02\pm0.02$., Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures

Abstract

The decays $J/\psi\to p\bar{p}$ and $J/\psi\to n\bar{n}$ have been investigated with a sample of 225.2 million $J/\psi$ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII $e^+e^-$ collider. The branching fractions are determined to be $\mathcal{B}(J/\psi\to p\bar{p})=(2.112\pm0.004\pm0.031)\times10^{-3}$ and $\mathcal{B}(J/\psi\to n\bar{n})=(2.07\pm0.01\pm0.17)\times10^{-3}$. Distributions of the angle $\theta$ between the proton or anti-neutron and the beam direction are well described by the form $1+\alpha\cos^2\theta$, and we find $\alpha=0.595\pm0.012\pm0.015$ for $J/\psi\to p\bar{p}$ and $\alpha=0.50\pm0.04\pm0.21$ for $J/\psi\to n\bar{n}$. Our branching-fraction results suggest a large phase angle between the strong and electromagnetic amplitudes describing the $J/\psi\to N\bar{N}$ decay., Comment: 16 pages, 13 figures, the 2nd version, submitted to PRD

Abstract

The two-photon transition $\psi(3686)\to\gamma\gamma J/\psi$ is studied in a sample of 106 million $\psi(3686)$ decays collected by the BESIII detector. The branching fraction is measured to be $(3.1\pm0.6(\unit{stat})^{+0.8}_{-1.0}(\unit{syst})) \times10^{-4}$ using $J/\psi\to e^+e^-$ and $J/\psi\to\mu^+\mu^-$ decays, and its upper limit is estimated to be $4.5\times10^{-4}$ at the 90% conference level. This work represents the first measurement of a two-photon transition among charmonium states. The orientation of the $\psi(3686)$ decay plane and the $J/\psi$ polarization in this decay are also studied. In addition, the product branching fractions of sequential $E1$ transitions $\psi(3686)\to\gamma\chi_{cJ}, \chi_{cJ}\to\gamma J/\psi (J=0,1,2)$ are reported., Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, 2 tables

Abstract

We study the decays of the J/psi and psi' mesons to pi+pi-pi0 using data samples at both resonances collected with the BES III detector in 2009. We measure the corresponding branching fractions with unprecedented precision and provide mass spectra and Dalitz plots. The branching fraction for J/psi -> pi+pi-pi0 is determined to be (2.137 +- 0.004 (stat.) +0.058-0.056 (syst.) +0.027-0.026 (norm.))*10-2, and the branching fraction for psi' -> pi+pi-pi0 is measured as (2.14 +- 0.03 (stat.) +0.08-0.07 (syst.) +0.09-0.08 (norm.))*10-4. The J/psi decay is found to be dominated by an intermediate rho(770) state, whereas the psi' decay is dominated by di-pion masses around 2.2 GeV/c2, leading to strikingly different Dalitz distributions., Comment: 15 pages, 2 figures

Abstract

The decays $J/\psi \rightarrow \gamma \pi^+\pi^-\pi^0$ and $J/\psi \rightarrow \gamma \pi^0\pi^0\pi^0$ are analyzed using a sample of 225 million $\jpsi$ events collected with the BESIII detector. The decay of $\eta(1405)\ar f_{0}(980)\pi^0$ with a large isospin violation is observed for the first time. The width of the $f_{0}(980)$ observed in the dipion mass spectra is anomalously narrower than the world average. Abstract

The mass and width of the lowest lying S-wave spin singlet charmonium state, the eta_c, are measured using a data sample of 1.06x10^8 psi' decays collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring. We use a model that incorporates interference between the signal reaction, psi' -> gamma eta_c, and a non-resonant radiative background to successfully describe the line shape of the eta_c. We measure the eta_c mass to be 2984.3 +- 0.6 +- 0.6 MeV/c^2 and the total width to be 32.0 +- 1.2 +- 1.0 MeV, where the first errors are statistical and the second are systematic., Comment: 7 pages, 1 figure, 1 table, matches Phys. Abstract

Decays of $\chi_{c1}$ to vector meson pairs $\phi\phi$, $\omega\omega$ and $\omega\phi$ are observed for the first time using $(106\pm4)\times 10^6$ $\psip$ events accumulated at the BESIII detector at the BEPCII $e^+e^-$ collider. The branching fractions are measured to be $(4.4\pm 0.3\pm 0.5)\times 10^{-4}$, $(6.0\pm 0.3\pm 0.7)\times 10^{-4}$, and $(2.2\pm 0.6\pm 0.2)\times 10^{-5}$, for $\chi_{c1}\to \phi\phi$, $\omega\omega$, and $\omega\phi$, respectively. The observation of $\chi_{c1}$ decays into a pair of vector mesons $\phi\phi$, $\omega\omega$ and $\omega\phi$ indicates that the hadron helicity selection rule is significantly violated in $\chi_{cJ}$ decays. In addition, the measurement of $\chi_{cJ}\to \omega\phi$ gives the rate of doubly OZI-suppressed decay. Abstract

We have studied the magneto-optical Kerr effect and optical reflectance of perpendicular magnetized Co/Pt films on self-assembly two-dimensional polystyrene spheres. It is shown that the magneto-optical and the reflectance spectra are correlated to each other. Calculations have shown that the magneto-optical Kerr rotation and the Kerr ellipticity spectra are governed by the resonant coupling of light to the excitations of surface plasmon polaritons and modified by the sphere diameters. Abstract

How plant traits respond to environment changes has been given more concerns worldwide. However, it is hard to reveal the integrative responses of plants only based on independent plant traits without considering the close links among plant traits. Plant trait network (PTN) is emerging as a new way to study how plant traits adapt to changing environment and to find out the key plant trait. We collected soil and plant samples from five sampling zones in Suaeda salsa wetlands of the Yellow River Delta in China to construct hydrological connectivity index (HCI) by principal component analysis of eight indicators. PTNs were estimated by network analysis of nine plant traits. The results showed that five study areas had significant different HCIs. The PTNs showed the max tightness in areas with medium HCI and the complexity of PTNs decreased with the rise of HCI. Generally, PTNs exhibited the best performance in the areas with medium HCI in which were the most appropriate for plants to grow. Plant aboveground biomass was the central trait PTNs since it had a high degree as well as betweenness centrality. The findings indicate that Suaeda salsa takes different growth strategies under different hydrological connectivity conditions. Suaeda salsa enhanced the connections of different traits in areas which were the best for plants to grow while Suaeda salsa formed different groups of function modules in areas where hydrological connectivity was weak. 43. Recombinant erythropoietin protective and related effects on brain injury in premature infants.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate the protective effect of recombinant erythropoietin at different doses on brain injury in premature infants and the related effects on blood routine, liver function, intellectual development, mental development index (MDI), psychomotor development index (PDI), etc. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 120 premature infants were divided into four groups, including experimental group A (n=30), experimental group B (n=30), experimental group C (n=30) and control group (n=30). The experimental group was treated with different doses of recombinant erythropoietin for brain injury protection of premature infants, while the control group with conventional methods. RESULTS: There was no statistical significance in all test indicators of the four groups of patients before the intervention. After the intervention experiment, the S-100B index was p<0.05, and the erythropoietin (EPO) index was p<0.05. In the comparison of IL-6 indicators, the indicators of the experimental group were reduced after the comparison experiment, and there were significant differences, p<0.05. In neonatal behavior evaluation, there was a statistical difference between groups A and B and the control group (p<0.05), and no statistical significance was shown between group C and the control group (p>0.05). In the intelligence test comparison, the F value of the experimental group was 3.113 three months after treatment. After six months, the F value was 3.654. After nine months, the F value was 3.392 with p<0.05. In the comparison of blood routine indicators, the p-values of four indicators between groups were more than 0.05. In the comparison of liver function indexes, the indexes of groups A, B, and C were significantly changed before and after treatment, and the data after treatment were significantly different from those before treatment, p<0.05. In the comparison of development, there were no significant differences observed in the p-values of the two indicators of vigorous exercise and language in the experimental group. CONCLUSIONS: Recombinant erythropoietin has a protective effect on infants with brain injury and can improve the intellectual development of premature infants, but has no significant effect on blood routine indicators. 48. Density functional theory study of adsorption of H2O on γ-U(110) surface.

Abstract

The adsorption and dissociation of H2O on γ-U(110) surface have been studied using density functional theory calculations. For molecular adsorption, the water molecules prefer to be adsorbed parallelly on the top site. The adsorption energy of 2.06 eV and charge transfer between H2O and the surface suggest that chemical adsorption has taken place. The hybridization between 6d orbitals of surface uranium and 2p orbitals of oxygen in H2O plays a dominant role in the chemical adsorption model. Compared with molecular adsorptions, the H2O in γ-U(110) surface was found to be more prone to dissociative adsorptions. The adsorbed H2O can easily dissociate into OH and H with an energy barrier of 0.37 eV and the reaction is exothermic by 1.73 eV. Moreover, the OH group, perpendicular to the surface, can furtherly dissociate into H and O with a 0.57 eV energy barrier and the reaction is exothermic by 1.2 eV. The dissociation of H2O is highly exothermic and the dissociation barrier is significantly lower than the adsorption energy, indicating that H2O easily dissociates on the γ-U(110) surface. 50. Comparison of PFNA and DHS in the treatment of sarcopenia with Seinsheimer type V subtrochanteric fracture.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: We aimed at comparing the curative effect of proximal femoral nail antirotation (PFNA) and dynamic hip screw (DHS) in the treatment of Seinsheimer type V (type V) subtrochanteric fractures with sarcopenia. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed on 59 patients with type V subtrochanteric fractures complicated with sarcopenia admitted to the Department of Orthopedics of the affiliated Jiangning Hospital with Nanjing Medical University from January 2016 to December 2021. Sarcopenia was diagnosed based on grip strength and skeletal muscle index (SMI). According to different surgical methods, they were divided into PFNA group (32 cases) and DHS group (27 cases). The age, gender, time from injury to operation, SMI value, incision length, operation time, intraoperative blood loss, fluoroscopy times, perioperative blood transfusion, lower limb full weight-bearing time, visual analogue scale (VAS) for pain at 3 months after operation and at the last follow-up, Harris score as well as postoperative complications were compared between the two groups. RESULTS: There were no significant differences in age, gender, time from injury to operation, and SMI between the two groups. The length of surgical incision, blood loss and blood transfusion in the PFNA group were less than those in the DHS group; however, the number of intraoperative fluoroscopies was more than that in the DHS group. The PFNA group had earlier full weight-bearing time, lower VAS score and higher Harris score at 3 months after operation, while there was no statistically significant difference in VAS score and Harris score between the two groups at the last follow-up. The incidence of complications in the PFNA group was lower than that in the DHS group, and the difference was statistically significant. CONCLUSIONS: Both PFNA and DHS are effective methods for the treatment of type V subtrochanteric fractures complicated with sarcopenia. Strikingly, PFNA is preferred because of its short surgical incision, less blood loss, faster recovery, and lower incidence of complications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
