Abstract

Chamaecrista rotundifolia (C. rotundifolia) is a perennial herb of leguminosae, which increasingly being grown as a forage in China. In our search for original bioactive metabolites from Cassia plants, the phytochemical reinvestigation of the C. rotundifolia was carried out, which led to the isolation of three new (1–3) and six known (4–9) chromones. Their structures were confirmed by spectroscopic methods, including extensive 1D and 2D NMR techniques. Compounds 1–9 were evaluated for their anti-rotavirus activities, and the results revealed that compounds 1–9 exhibited potential anti-rotavirus activities with therapeutic index (TI) valves in the range of 12.0 ∼ 20.2, respectively. Abstract

Strain hardening exponent(n) of a material is an important parameter reflecting its hardening property whose determination is of great importance.It has a widely application in material scientific research and engineering fields such as fatigue life prediction,stress-concentration factor calculation,etc..The value of strain hardening exponent varies with their microstructures in cast aluminum alloys,but a few theoretical and experimental investigations have been reported to understand the effects of the microstructural parameters on the strain hardening exponent in these alloys till now. In the present study,the influence of secondary dendrite arm spacing(SADS),aspect ratio and volume fraction of particles on internal stress in aluminum alloys were discussed,and a quantitative prediction of strain hardening exponent was established on the basis of Hollomon and internal stress equations.It shows that the strain hardening exponent represents their hardening ability in relatively large plastic deformation(larger than the upper limit for the no plastic relaxation regime).A new microstructural hardening parameter relatively to strain hardening exponent was defined.Besides,a group of A319 cast aluminum alloys with microstructural heterogeneities were tested.The calculated strain hardening exponents are in agreement with the experimental ones in A319 alloy as well as in some commonly used cast aluminum alloys.For the same grade of alloys,the microstructural hardening parameter and strain hardening exponent are quite sensitive to SDAS and particle aspect ratio while the influence of volume fraction of particles is relatively little.As the values of SDAS and aspect ratio of particles increase,the value of the strain hardening exponent decreases.A liner relationship between microstructural hardening parameter and strain hardening exponent was proposed.For A319 and A356/357 alloys,the optimum correction coefficients are 0.17 and 0.11,respectively,and the mean prediction error of n is only about 10%.

29. Effects of Malathion on the Insect Succession and the Development of Chrysomya megacephala (Diptera: Calliphoridae) in the Field and Implications for Estimating Postmortem Interval

Abstract

A field study on the effects of malathion on insect succession and the development of carrion flies on corpses, and its quantitative determination from the larvae on decomposing rabbit carrion was conducted. The rabbits were treated with malathion at concentrations of lethal, half-lethal and fourth-lethal doses. Malathion altered decomposition rates and species diversity: Chrysomya megacephala (Diptera: Calliphoridae) was the most abundant adult species in all the experiments; third instar larvae of Chrysomya rufifacies (Diptera: Calliphoridae) were not found on the toxic carcasses but were collected from the control; the appearance of beetles on the treated carcass was later by 1 to 3 days than on the control carcass. Development rate of the dominated species C. megacephala larvae and pupae was observed. Stepwise increases in the period of larval development, the maximum length of larvae, and weight of pupae were observed with increasing malathion concentrations. However, there was no significant difference in the duration of the pupal stage. The differences in development rate were sufficient to alter postmortem interval estimates based on larval development by 12 to 36 hours. The time of finding fresh pupae from the fourth-lethal carcass was 12 hours later than the control. Accumulations of the pesticide in larvae were observed, but no correlations were found between larvae concentrations and the initial quantity administered to rabbits.In conclusion, it is necessary to consider the effects of malathion present in decomposing bodies when estimating the postmortem interval based on entomological evidence. The results of this study have more practical implications for forensic investigations because it is under natural conditions.

33. Strategy of the Causes of Death of Dependents.

Abstract

Objective To discuss the methods and strategies to identify the causes of dependents' deaths, as well as provide the experiences that can be used for reference and scientific basis for the forensic identification of the potentially growing deaths of the same kind in the future. Methods The 13 cases concerning death of dependents accepted by Sun Yat-sen University Forensic Center were collected, and the basic information of the dependents were statistically described. The nutritional status, environmental condition and medical care condition were evaluated according to dietary energy, living space, environment and medical treatment condition. Results Among the 13 dependents, there were 11 males and 2 females, with the oldest 74 and the youngest 9 and dwelling time was from 0.4 to 5.6 years. Forensic pathological examination showed that 13 dependents had infectious diseases and 11 were severely dystrophic. There were no fatal mechanical injuries or poisoning in dependents. Molecular pathological screening of 4 cases revealed no pathogenic variants of sudden death susceptible genes. The poor status of the diet, nutrition, living environment and medical care of these dependents were discovered. The direct cause of death of all 13 dependents was identified to be disease. The lack of nutrition, poor living environment and lack of medical care were thought to play a dominant role in causing the deaths of 12 dependants. Conclusion The death identification should follow the judicial procedure. In identification of the causes of death and analysis of the proportion of the affecting factors resulting in death, all factors, including nutrition, environment, medical care, injury and diseases, need to be considered.
